With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Avatar 12:12pm Wolfgang:

northguineahills! I greet you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm redkayak:

@NGH - I teach part time, and I like it. It relates to the work I have been doing all my life (horticulture). The addition of COVID adds new dimensions to the experience, for sure...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm redkayak:

@Wolfgang - You're the man. Keep 'em rolling!
Avatar 12:14pm Wolfgang:

Up With Teachers!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm redkayak:

@NGH - That said, it's not something that really pays the bills, but it all helps supplement my "real" work...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Howdy, Stork and Clubsters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm redkayak:

@wolfgang - Aye. My heart goes out to the full timers. (i.e. HS, elementary, etc) They're truly earning their keep these days....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm redkayak:

@Doug - Hello sir :)
Avatar 12:25pm northguineahills:

@redkayak: I taught Weather and Climate, form 2000-2003. I saw, $53/ awesome. What they didn't tell me was that for every hour I spent in the classroom, I spent 8 outside, b/tn office hours, formulating lesson plans, and grading papers. (I was often found in b/tn dj sets at clubs grading papers by a book light) (my other side hustle at the time).
Avatar 12:26pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm redkayak:

The practice of horticulture (in higher ed) is fading away. Env. science is the jazzier option these days....

I was (still am) one of those who loves being outside...
Avatar 12:29pm Wolfgang:

I would spend more time outside, but I'm a whore to culture
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm redkayak:

@NGH - Weather & Climate sounds really cool. I'm teaching entomology this fall. It's actually a terribly interesting time to learn about insects.... Lots going on....

Avatar 12:34pm northguineahills:

I haven't done horticulture, but I worked for a startup doing geographic monitoring of aquatic ecosystems of the everglades, which was mostly focused on the aquatic plant life (water and zoological chemical composition as well, for pollutants). But, FL elected an even more boneheaded governor then the last one, and he slashed the bugget, so, I've been underemployed since then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm chresti:

Whoa! Do it again!

Avatar 2:18pm Wolfgang:

DrJ! Jeff G floated the question just last week about one of the Threadgill bands - can't remember which: best band of the 80's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm doctorjazz:

The Sextette was the one...and Abdullah Ibrahim, two of the artists I spent much time listening to and going to their concerts at that time.
Avatar 2:25pm Wolfgang:

Dollar Brand's very last chord there - wowzer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm doctorjazz:

This was Ibrahim's style at the time, the band would stop, he'd get an insane ostinato going in his left hand, and improvise with his right, often seeming like they were totally independent!
Avatar 2:26pm duke:
