Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Hi Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Matt from New Orleans:

Hi Danny. Guess you saw me logged into your page.
Avatar 7:31pm Little Danny:

Nope. Just guessed you'd pop before the curtain. Hi bud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Matt from New Orleans:

You missed a good show on Tuesday
Avatar 7:33pm Little Danny:

I believe it! Though I miss good shows here all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Matt from New Orleans:

Kris played all 78s
Avatar 7:34pm Little Danny:

78s are great fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Matt from New Orleans:

Did you see some rich British fool paid over £100K for the playable of the two original copies of Do I Love You by Frank Wilson?
Avatar 7:44pm Little Danny:

I didn't, but I believe that. No one pays out like UK northern collectors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Matt from New Orleans:

That copy sold for around £26K in 2009. A good investment for the seller.
Avatar 7:50pm Little Danny:

It's long been the holy grail of that scene. Great production though Wilson's vocal isn't my favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Matt from New Orleans:

You and Berry Gordy
Avatar 8:02pm Little Danny:

Avatar 9:49pm Little Danny:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Matt from New Orleans:

I George Constanza’d you earlier. I saw a bunch of The Geesink Brothers work in Amsterdam at EYE Film in the late 90s. I ate some space cake beforehand and throughout as there were several programs I attended. I never passed out but it was an interesting day as I had to guess the story entirely from the visuals. My mind definitely wandered off at points. I think I discovered the secret to cold fusion but lost it later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm melinda:

I see the party's already started!
Avatar 9:59pm Little Danny:

Dammit Matt you gotta write that cold fusion recipe down. C'mon son.
Avatar 9:59pm Little Danny:

Hi Melinda!
Avatar 10:00pm Flash Strap:

take it away LD! and may your power hold strong, there's an epidemic afoot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Matt from New Orleans:

Hi everyone
Avatar 10:02pm Little Danny:

Thanks Evan, I'll pedal that bicycle myself if it means keeping the party goin'
Avatar 10:03pm Flash Strap:

oh i love this song
  10:03pm CC:

I stopped looking for women a long time ago..!..:)
Avatar 10:03pm Little Danny:

Of course you do. It's incredible!
Avatar 10:03pm Franco Twinkie:

Danny! I've done my chores, have you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Yah yah yah yah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

Danny this was one of the 45s I picked up during my dig at Jim Russell back in 1993 that I was telling Kris about on Tuesday. Weird coincidence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm chresti:

Yah! Hi Lil' Danny and Flambos!
Avatar 10:05pm Little Danny:

Affairs are in order, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm chresti:

coel have a funny cookie!
Avatar 10:06pm Little Danny:

Le Doug! CC! Chresti! Good people hello
Avatar 10:07pm Little Danny:

@Matt: that is weird. But good.
Avatar 10:09pm Little Danny:

Opening video tonight is Ken Jacobs's "Window" from the early '60s.
Avatar 10:10pm Little Danny:

I dedicate this drug PSA to Franco
Avatar 10:11pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm WR:

Is Franco watching?
Avatar 10:12pm Little Danny:

Hi WR! Franco is among us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Matt from New Orleans:

I sold all those NOLA R&B/Funk 45s in 1997 up in NY for many many multiples to finance a backpacking summer in Europe. It was around the time Tuff City/Funky Delicacies started issuing stuff so people were jonesing for it up there.
  10:12pm CC:

When is the last time one of you guys had a girl come up and blow in your ear and ask you what you were doing later???...:)
Avatar 10:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Yes, I just settled in. How are you MR. WR?
Avatar 10:13pm Little Danny:

Goes without saying but this PSA would have only increased my interest had I seen it as a sprout.
Avatar 10:13pm Little Danny:

You probably sold them at a good time, Matt.
Avatar 10:14pm Franco Twinkie:

We were lucky we had a place to watch this kind of stuff in Pasadena.
Avatar 10:15pm Little Danny:

Crud. The needle went flying off the Bobby Callender LP some I've moved on to the Accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm ARB:

Hi Little Danny! Hi all!
Avatar 10:16pm Little Danny:

Hi ARB! Pleasure to find you here!
Avatar 10:17pm Franco Twinkie:

ARB! How ya doing sprout"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Matt from New Orleans:

Probably the wrong date for it Danny
Avatar 10:18pm Kris Holmes:

Hi everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm WR:

I'm ok Franco, bit tired from working long hours.
Avatar 10:19pm Little Danny:

KRIS HOLMES. See now we've already been discussing you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm chresti:

I don't think I've ever seen this trippy Alice PSA before.
Avatar 10:20pm Kris Holmes:

I see that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Matt from New Orleans:

Pewter Pals are from down here
Avatar 10:20pm Little Danny:

It's sooo trippy. It's actually a bit baffling. What were they thinking? This is like the pied piper of anti-drug PSAs.
Avatar 10:21pm Little Danny:

They're a Los Angeles concern Matt.
Avatar 10:21pm Little Danny:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm ARB:

We've been talking about having a prisoner exchange on the streams on some future Fridays, inviting you (and Flash Strap and anyone interested) to take over an Aloha Friday, we could send Sheenas DJs to the discotheque in exchange
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm chresti:

H'ARB! great idea.
Avatar 10:22pm Little Danny:

Oooh I love that! I'll email you tomorrow. Thanks ARB!
Avatar 10:22pm Franco Twinkie:

I like the brittle twang.
Avatar 10:22pm Kris Holmes:

Love this Centurians LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm WR:

Someday I'm going to watch that Alice drug thing with sound. For now, will be enjoying Cool Blue Flame as i make something to eat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm ARB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Matt from New Orleans:

Love Crossfire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm chresti:

Robert Young was so good at being sinister.
Avatar 10:23pm Little Danny:

@Kris: Me too. The booming-est LP on Del-Fi.
Avatar 10:24pm Kris Holmes:

It’s the sax
Avatar 10:24pm Little Danny:

Gotta be a bari
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Gotta catch the rest from under the pillow. Thanks for making it hard to drift off, Little D!
Avatar 10:25pm Kris Holmes:

Correct. Which is weird for surf bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm doctorjazz:

Hi all! Great soundtrack! (Can't actually watch the video, though, the music stops when I start the video. Using an Android phone Bluetooth connected to a speaker right now).
  10:25pm CC:

I've met a lot of smart guys that are dumber than they think and I'm not even a girl..!..:)
Avatar 10:26pm Little Danny:

Scenes of Australian beaches, just missed the surf tracks, dammit. Terrible personal timing.
Avatar 10:27pm Little Danny:

Hi Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m waiting for Sandy Duncan
Avatar 10:27pm Kris Holmes:

Avatar 10:31pm Kris Holmes:

Kiwis represent!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Matt from New Orleans:

The commercial was way before she had the tumor removed Kris and yes it was a TOOOMAAAH.
Avatar 10:32pm Little Danny:

I dedicate this red carpet video to Chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm doctorjazz:

Very much enjoying this set! (The Paradox remind a but of a the seekers...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm chresti:

Sparkle gowns!
Avatar 10:34pm Little Danny:

Avatar 10:34pm Little Danny:

And Aquanet!
  10:34pm CC:

So many people to say hi to... of course I really love you Australian guys from down there!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm doctorjazz:

Searchers probably a better fit (no girl vocal). But the guitar feel, English Folk Rock.
Avatar 10:36pm Little Danny:

This week's terrifying stop motion.
Avatar 10:36pm Little Danny:

Ah, I shouldn't have doubted you, doc! I know of the Seekers but wouldn't be able to tell you what they sounded like.
Avatar 10:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks for this Dutch film, and the one about milk last week as well. Thank you Danny.
Avatar 10:37pm Little Danny:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Matt from New Orleans:

Danny they had some of the dolls on display at the museum. Creeped me out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Matt from New Orleans:

She sort of sounds like Nico
Avatar 10:47pm Little Danny:

Indeed. Quite a voice.
Avatar 10:47pm Little Danny:

This Maya Deren film goes out to my Catholic listeners.
  10:50pm CC:

I used to be Pentecostal..!..:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm doctorjazz:

Sounded a whole lot like Nick-checked to see if it was.
Avatar 10:51pm Little Danny:

@cc: Did you grow up in Texas, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm doctorjazz:

(Nico, damn, and I went back to correct it, still came out wrong!
Avatar 10:52pm Franco Twinkie:

On this night forty nine years ago, my sister and I as well as a friend of ours saw The Grateful Dead at The Hollywood Palladium. It was over a hundred degrees inside and they played till two in the morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm doctorjazz:

I've always felt like Fahey mostly played backgrounds waiting for a singer...
  10:53pm CC:

Born in Oklahoma lived there for the first seven years of my life and then move to Arizona Georgia New Jersey Washington State Colorado Cali and now in Texas!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm doctorjazz:

NRPS! Jerry! Love it!
Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

Oklahoma! That state scares me.
Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

I'm a big fan of Jerry on pedal steel
Swag For Life Member 10:56pm zzz:

@franco twinkie- not to get too dead-nerd on you but probably the best hard to handle the dead ever played on that night you mention. scorcher to match what it sounds like the actual temp inside
Avatar 10:56pm Kris Holmes:

CC where in TX?
  10:56pm CC:

Oklahoma used to be a good Democrat state!!!..:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Matt from New Orleans:

Swag For Life Member 10:57pm zzz:

much love for garcia on pedal
steel w the new riders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Matt from New Orleans:

I think that’s the full set that this is pulled from
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm doctorjazz:

He sounds great here! (I read that he gave up pedal steel because he felt he could never master it without going full time. He did OK, judging by this!)
Avatar 10:57pm Franco Twinkie:

The New Riders opened the show. They had a huge sonic force. Seen Jerry playing the pedal live was very inspiring.
  10:58pm CC:

I live up here in Wichita County...
Swag For Life Member 10:58pm zzz:

must have been wild to see that GD in that era
Avatar 10:59pm Little Danny:

Thanks for that link, Matt! Wow, I need to check the whole set out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm doctorjazz:

Man....killing it!
Avatar 10:59pm Little Danny:

Avatar 10:59pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Matt from New Orleans:

The Live Music Archive is a rabbit hole Danny. Good luck.
Avatar 11:01pm Little Danny:

I've fallen down it before Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm doctorjazz:

Got to see them a bit later, already in Europe 72 time. And NRPS, but after Jerry stopped playing Pedal Steel by then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Matt from New Orleans:

I played a small part in setting it up Danny. I used to be very involved with etree.org back about 20 years ago.
  11:04pm CC:

Great show Danny I got to go watch the weather I might be back... I will be listening by the bedside regardless..!...cheers all..!..
Avatar 11:04pm Little Danny:

That's fantastic, Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm doctorjazz:

Gonna lay down, listen with eyes closed. Thanks, Danny! (After filling up a few hard drives with live shows i'll never have time to listen to, I stopped going to those sites)

Swag For Life Member 11:06pm zzz:

archive.org that is, never quite managed to figure out etree though my friends were experts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Matt from New Orleans:

BitTorrent definitely has a learning curve. It can also be frustrating if you just expect the music to download right away.
  11:10pm Carmichael:

Jeez, it’s late. Heya Danny and flamers. Trying to work my way into vacation.
Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Ignore Function:

Great tunes and visuals, LD.
Avatar 11:12pm Little Danny:

Carmichael! Your new life begins here!

Where are you vacationing?
Avatar 11:12pm Little Danny:

@I.F.: Thank you, and thank you, and thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Matt from New Orleans:

I haven’t been watching the video. Did I miss Sandy’s commercial?
Avatar 11:14pm Little Danny:

@Matt: I think you did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Matt from New Orleans:

I can just watch it on YouTube. No biggie.
Avatar 11:16pm Little Danny:

It won't be the same.
Avatar 11:19pm Kris Holmes:

Sonny Ace! Love this track.
Avatar 11:20pm Little Danny:

I thought of you Kris. Cobra Records!
Avatar 11:20pm Little Danny:

Video is a very young Lou Rawls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm WR:

Yes, Rawls looks so young in that vid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm WR:

Kris, I listened first part of you show last night. Great story about that Brunies 78.
Avatar 11:23pm Little Danny:

Edward G. Robinson everybody.
  11:23pm Carmichael:

@Danny, visiting my daughter in Portland. Should be fun, many record stores. May meet up with Tony Coulter.
Avatar 11:24pm Little Danny:

Awesome, love Portland! Have fun, say hi to Tony for me if you see him.
Avatar 11:26pm northguineahills:

just took a four-hour nap, last night it was teenaged siblings across the hall in this hotel fighting and slamming the door over and over until 2:30am, until their mother came out, but they were at it again at 4:30am...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Matt from New Orleans:

Sounds like fun
Avatar 11:31pm Little Danny:

Noisy hotel neighbors are the pits.
Avatar 11:32pm northguineahills:

I read that as pets (I suppose the antithesis of the Pyro For Pyros ditty).
Avatar 11:33pm Little Danny:

Noisy pets are alright in my book.
Avatar 11:33pm northguineahills:

...and I'd prefer the Beach Boys verion....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Matt from New Orleans:

Deodata on Piano
Avatar 11:34pm northguineahills:

Avatar 11:34pm Little Danny:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm Matt from New Orleans:

That song is on O Som. Deodato played on O Novo Som.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Matt from New Orleans:

So we’ll both be wrong
Avatar 11:41pm northguineahills:

Now I have the vision of Deodato from the 1980 album, Night Cruiser, where he has a slick Miami Vice 80s look....
Avatar 11:42pm Little Danny:

What are you looking at Matt?
Avatar 11:43pm Little Danny:

I have the OG album right here. It's Luis Carlos Vinhas on piano.
Avatar 11:44pm northguineahills:

I love these old industrial promo films, pairs well w/ industrial promo musicals...
Avatar 11:46pm Little Danny:

I do too. The Periscope Films channel on YouTube is a goldmine of 'em. As is the Prelinger archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Matt from New Orleans:

What album is in your hand? O Som?
Avatar 11:48pm Little Danny:

O Som
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Matt from New Orleans:

You typed O Novo Som on the site here. That confused me. Deodato played on that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm Matt from New Orleans:

It’s not a big deal. Sorry that it became so confusing.
Avatar 11:52pm Franco Twinkie:

Danny, another real good mood maker. Thank you very much.
Avatar 11:52pm Kris Holmes:

Thanks WR, yeah that was insane. One of my better stories.
Avatar 11:53pm Little Danny:

Thanks Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Matt from New Orleans:

Thanks Danny. I enjoyed the show tonight.
Avatar 11:53pm Little Danny:

Going for a deep mood in this last stretch.
