Good afternoon Irene, hello one and all, the beginning of the week's impact is so lessened by your wonderful show, gives me the will to live whilst watching our Metsies!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Irene Trudel:

Hi Sean! Nice to have you here today. Let's hope The Mets get out of their slump soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 12:03pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Irene (and Peter, and Nica), TDK, Sean in Bristol UK, Listener James from Westwood, Linda Lee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm sphere:

hullo folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm sphere:

what i like the most about original Moody Blues is that they really know how to use a Mellotron.
Avatar 12:05pm TDK60:

Bonjour Sylvia.
Avatar 12:05pm Linda Lee:

hello Sylvia!
  12:06pm Dean:

My exposure in the early to mid-'70s to Moody Blues was via the public and high school libraries' LP collections. So much fun trying one, then another, up through Seventh Sojourn. Didn't finally buy one until about three years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Sylvia, sphere and Dean! I've loved those Moody Blues albums ever since high school. Found them a bit hard to cue for radio though.
Avatar 12:15pm northguineahills:

  12:17pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Bonjour Sylvia, comment vas tu?
Avatar 12:19pm uuee:

Hi Irene! Were you able to tune into what had passed as this year's Newport Folk Festival?
Avatar 12:20pm Linda Lee:

so nice hearing this Cocteaus track. a favorite way back when.
  12:21pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Strawbs, lovely
Avatar 12:22pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Sean @12:17 Je vais bien merci, et toi ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Irene Trudel:

Hi ngh and uuee! I haven't had a chance to tune into the Newport streams yet. Hope to do that this week. We're really missing the festivals and all the great music/hanging out by Narragansett Bay with friends.BTW, the top page for my playlists is a photo from one of the Newport festivals past.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm doctorjazz:

Hi Irene and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning (-ish), Irene!
Avatar 12:36pm uuee:

Cool photo. MVY Radio played past fests all weekend. John Prine was on the lineup.
Avatar 12:36pm TDK60:

Never been to a Newport folk or jazz fest.
Avatar 12:37pm TDK60:

..but I /did/ see Richie Havens during his debut residency. He did this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Hey there, Irene and folx. Yay. Richie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

My mama said my first concert was Richie Havens. My guess would be it was in Lawrence Kansas.
  12:41pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@ Sylvia, Je suis tres bien, I am sorry but I used to speak your wonderful language but old age has got the better of me and am a bit hazy with my French now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Howdy, Irene! Hello, Monday faithful! Crazy work day for me. My ears will poke their head in from time to time.
  12:44pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Oh Lordy, the music is ramping up from ‘awesome’ to in a Scotty voice from Star Trek, ‘Captain, the engines canna take anymore’!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Sean in Bristol UK: well put
  12:46pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Forgot to put ‘it’ but thank you Granny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i was trying to think of how to describe the way this set was feeling, and yours did it for me
Avatar 12:48pm TDK60:

"Scotty, Spock here on deck. Calm down. This music appears logical; they tell me it's emotional too."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Irene Trudel:

Howdy Phillippe, doctorjazz, Summer and Michael and Sylvia, Granny, and Doug. Falling a little behind in the comments. Glad I got to see Richie before he passed. He was in top form at the NFF.
Avatar 12:52pm βrian:

Salut, Irene et les auditeurs !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

it was rather downheartening when i saw a chart of activities ranked by risk and nightclubs was the leader of the pack. oy.
  1:02pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

The sun is shining (rare at this time of year) and life is ‘finger likin’ good’ whilst listening to this show instead of ‘ass wipin’ bad!’ Sorry for my profuse eulogies!
Avatar 1:10pm uuee:

Peter Schickele...the 1712 overture, had to chuckle... just heard it the other day...on an fm station that stepped on the 91.1 frequency, in S. Jersey
  1:17pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Irene Trudel:

Hey βrian! uuee, those PDQ Bach albums of Schickele's are priceless! Always make me laugh/
  1:23pm PepeCarumba:

You can't play enough Youngbloods for me -- keep it coming!
Avatar 1:24pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Sean @12:41 no worries :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Pepe! Just found a few of our Youngbloods LPs that had been misfiled. Hope to play more in the following weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm doctorjazz:

This Haden is FABULOUS!
Avatar 1:54pm TDK60:

That Collins track always stirs me.
  1:54pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Mind completely blown! Oh my goodness,
  1:56pm Peter K.:

What a great set! What a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Irene Trudel:

Aww, guys, you're making me blush!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm doctorjazz:

And the Getz, man, long way from Ipanema!
  2:02pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm doctorjazz:

Gives lie to Getz's "mellow" rep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm doctorjazz:

Puts me in mind of The Jazz Passengers, who I used to catch often at the old knitting factory.
  2:08pm Peter K.:

That whole Getz album is a monster. The rhythm section is Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Tony Williams and Airto Moreira. Most of the tracks are Corea compositions. Solid stuff.
  2:11pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Irene, spanking bottom, Go Girl! What a set!
Avatar 2:11pm northguineahills:

I don't think Getz got mellow until the 80sish
  2:16pm Peter K.:

You don't think Getz's music was mellow in the 1950s and '60s? Really? What do you think "Jazz Samba" was -- heavy metal??
Avatar 2:22pm northguineahills:

Mary will kill it! Did I miss you doing a discoteque, Irene!
Avatar 2:23pm northguineahills:

@Peter: Ok, audibly mellow, but not in intent. Even his bossa years, there was still intensity....
  2:28pm Peter K.:

And you think he lost his intensity in the 1980s? If so, I have some albums to recommend!
Avatar 2:32pm northguineahills:

I bought the wrong Getz albums from the 80s, so, recommend away (en serio!) I only have 2, and they're very 'lounge lite' jazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Michael 98145:

uh oh. glitchy streaming.
  2:35pm Dean:

7 discs of the entire series of shows with Kenny Barron at Cafe Montmartre: beautiful, top to bottom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Michael 98145:

@Irene, how is your wrist, btw?
Avatar 2:38pm northguineahills:

Thanks, Dean, sounds amazing. To the interwebs (looking for a flat right now, so, no room for rekkids).
  2:40pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Yasmin Williams, sublime
Avatar 2:42pm βrian:

It's slightly overcast and 63 here on the isthmus today. I'm really enjoying it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Irene Trudel:

Michael, the glitches were probably mine. (Bad miscue!) The wrist is pretty good, 2 weeks out. Dean, that Kenny Barron set sounds great! βrian, I wish we had a little of that chilly air in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Michael 98145:

Hope that storm doesn't wind up in your area ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Irene, loved the show!
Avatar 2:56pm TDK60:

Thanks Irene.
Avatar 2:59pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Here, it's over here! wfmu.org...
  2:59pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

And the pitcher sets, Irene Trudel at the plate, she swings, that ball is going, going gone, it is an ex baseball, it has ceased to be, etc, etc, Irene you hit the ball out of the park, what a show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks all! Catch you next Monday.
