A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

If you do the corpse pose on a clear tarp it's called the Laura Palmer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm ultradamno:

Same year The Sports released Who Listens To The Radio. That they kept moving may explain the sentiment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Rich in Washington:

Really dug your show the other night, Kat!
Feel free to put the when and where in the comments so others can tune in!

OK, did someone from XTC die?
Avatar 7:15pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hi Rich, everyone. I do LOVE XTC.
Avatar 7:16pm ARB:

Did you ever listen to Harry Shearer's "Le Show"? The Apology Of The Week was very inspirational
Avatar 7:16pm ARB:

Not sure if it's still on
Avatar 7:16pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@7:15 ultradamno: I DON'T WANT TO HEAR SUCH NEWS

(caps lock necessary)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Kat in Chicago:

You’re too kind, Rich. Show is presently on Mondays 8-10 pm Central, streams at wluw.org. Soundcloud link on my listener profile.
Avatar 7:17pm solo mon:

My first pandemic anthem ( like 3 .5 months ago ) was senses working overtime. I even did it for 30 second hand washing
Avatar 7:18pm solo mon:

Arb, no I haven’t heard that!
Avatar 7:19pm solo mon:

To kick in space!
Avatar 7:19pm ARB:

You know who he is probably? He does about half the voices on the Simpsons as well as Spinal Tap, and he also has a long running radio show in New Orleans that's pretty great
Avatar 7:20pm solo mon:

Oh that guy! Yes totally he is great. I didn’t know he had a radio show
Avatar 7:21pm solo mon:

Re mix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm ultradamno:

And all those Christopher Guest movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Kat in Chicago:

solo mon, I was trying to listen to the Ann Magnuson show but failed, workus interruptus :( will catch up on Sheena’s archives this weekend. Need to dig into ARB shows too!
Avatar 7:21pm solo mon:

Fav part!!
Avatar 7:22pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Harry Shearer has been quite critical about his job (the SImpsons) - I don't blame him. A show that is still on 20 years after its best before date.
Avatar 7:23pm solo mon:

Kat- don’t ya just hate it when work gets in the way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

YAY! i love that song. hi, Rich and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Kat in Chicago:

This week has been awful for listening, my long-term temp gig ends in three weeks and it seems like they’re gonna be a rough three weeks.
Avatar 7:25pm solo mon:

Shakshuka Shavasana to you granny!
Avatar 7:25pm solo mon:

Damn this one is so great too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 7:26pm solo mon:

We are enjoying XTC and the colors of poop and pee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm ultradamno:

That sounds like an order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Rich in Washington:

Sorry to hear, Kat! Hope everything works out OK.
Avatar 7:29pm Don-O:

Rich. I'm thinking of playing last weeks Crap show after your show tonight....
Avatar 7:30pm ironybread:

Fuck, I don't THINK someone from XTC died - did they? Nothing about it on Wikipedia. This could just be our Rich enjoying some XTC. For which no excuse is needed, frankly.
Avatar 7:31pm solo mon:

Sometimes you have to enjoy things before someone dies.
Avatar 7:32pm ironybread:

solo mon: Quite right. In my opinion the best way for us to do this would be to make XTC play the Hollywood Bowl. I mean Christ can you fucking imagine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 7:33pm solo mon:

ironybread that would be insane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

Oh yeah, I actually thought about prefacing that set with the disclaimer that on one from that band had died. My bad!
Avatar 7:33pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I will go nuts if someone present goes to announce "yes, I did see XTC live while it they still performed live"
Avatar 7:34pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

an extra it crept in as a typo - what does IT mean???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Rich in Washington:

Don-O - allow me to go a few minutes over to read the schedule over the air. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm ultradamno:

If not I think playing that many songs of an act in a row could bring a death on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rich in Washington:

Oh yeah, ultradamno, like a hipster version of the film I Buy The Living; a dj accidentally does a death tribute to someone and then they actually die. I'm hearing a radio play!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rich in Washington:

I think Station Manager Ken has tried on multiple occasions to bring about the premature death of Bob Dylan.
Avatar 7:37pm ARB:

Let's do a radio play!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm ultradamno:

Make a good Twilight Zone.
Avatar 7:37pm solo mon:

Avatar 7:38pm solo mon:

Hahaha How many times has Bob Dylan died already?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm ultradamno:

The DJ realizes his power and starts taking out musicians that have been snotty to him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Rich in Washington:

Or do a really solemn, longish radio tribute to someone, then reveal you wanted to honor them before they died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Rich in Washington:

aka what I did with my XTC set.
Avatar 7:39pm solo mon:

“Pay to Not Play”
Avatar 7:39pm ironybread:

Ken couldn't kill Don McLean with a hoax radio show, Negativland couldn't kill Ringo Starr with a hoax radio show, but given half a chance and a radio show of my own I WILL kill Michael Bolton
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, just like I Bury the Living. A great, kinda dumb film.
Avatar 7:40pm solo mon:

I gotta see this film
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm ultradamno:

Or an avid concertgoer notices every band he sees suffers a fatal accident...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Rich in Washington:

porn has made the whole 'tribute' thing sound hilarious now, every time I see an LP, Tribute to Hank Williams, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 7:41pm solo mon:

ARB how about we make a video that kills the radio stars?
Avatar 7:41pm ironybread:

Never heard of Craig Leon until today - thanks Rich! Looks like Superior Viaduct did a CD reissue of this album a few years back
Avatar 7:42pm solo mon:

This music is laser luscious
Avatar 7:42pm ironybread:

Where are the porn Elvis tributes
Avatar 7:42pm solo mon:

“Avid concert goer” is this a fantasy film??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Rich in Washington:

Look at the producer credits to most early American Punk stuff. He probably produced it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm ultradamno:

Ask and you will receive www.adultdvdempire.com...
Avatar 7:43pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

That XTC set was a nice reminder I should not only listen to them more but also their scruffier cousins as it were - Cleaners From Venus. If I don't remember wrong Andy Partridge actually produced an album of theirs which is funny given how polished XTC is and how decidedly lo-fi Cleaners From Venus sounds at times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm ultradamno:

Rule 34
Avatar 7:43pm solo mon:

Elvis makes love to a peanut butter and banana sandwich while sitting on the toilet.
Avatar 7:46pm ARB:

Speaking of radio plays, did anyone catch Miracle Nutrition yesterday? Brilliant!
Avatar 7:46pm ironybread:

untradamno: hee hee
Avatar 7:47pm ironybread:

ARB: I did not, I love Hearty dearly but often miss his show - I will go back and catch this one.
Avatar 7:49pm solo mon:

I gotta hear that ARB
Avatar 7:50pm solo mon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Rich in Washington:

There have been Miracle Nutrition shows which have had life-changing messages for me. He's sneaky, that Hearty White.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm ultradamno:

This reminds me, Sacred Bones is reissuing 3 Mort Garson albums twitter.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Kat in Chicago:

I somehow did manage to more or less catch Hearty live this week, gonna re-listen though because I think I missed stuff. It was exceptional this week.
Avatar 7:51pm solo mon:

I don’t know how he does it. But he does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Kat in Chicago:

I like these oscillating oscillations
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Rich in Washington:

Oh, I saw that, ultradamno! I need to get at least two of those!
Avatar 7:52pm solo mon:

Finally a re issue of the didnt you hear soundtrack!!
Avatar 7:52pm ARB:

The first time I listened was only 3 weeks ago. Get this: he told us to whisper our names into the radio and then he said my name back to me. I don't have a common name either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Rich in Washington:

That's made even crazier by the fact that he records his shows!
Avatar 7:53pm ARB:

Of course I'm devoted now
Avatar 7:53pm solo mon:

ArB weird
Avatar 7:53pm ARB:

I didn't whisper my name either, but I didn't need to....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

He's Glenn Runciter from PKD's Ubik!
Avatar 7:58pm solo mon:

Into this trippy shit
Avatar 8:00pm solo mon:

Yay Gristle!
Avatar 8:05pm solo mon:

Making music or doing laundry? Why not both.
Avatar 8:07pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I envy those with a washing machine. After 5 months of Corona affecting well, everything, still planning a trip to the launderette.
Avatar 8:07pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

at least this sounds like a washing machine.
Avatar 8:08pm solo mon:

Great job Gristle, it throbbed and swirled. And now my clothes are clean?
Avatar 8:09pm solo mon:

I just learned that you can send your laundry out. I’m never doing my own laundry again.
Avatar 8:10pm solo mon:

Oscillations is so great I love the blipping stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Kat in Chicago:

We have machines in the basement of my building, but suddenly there’s a coin shortage (?!) and it’s harder to get rolls of quarters.
Avatar 8:12pm solo mon:

Yeh I don’t understand the coin shortage thing at all
Avatar 8:14pm Don-O:

Hey, Rich. Just ion case you did catch it earlier, I'm planning to rebroadcast last weeks Crap show after your show today/night.
Avatar 8:15pm ironybread:

that Brad Sucks song spoke to me a little too personally, I'm afraid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Rich in Washington:

Don-O, I want to read the schedule, upcoming specials, so will go over a few minutes.
Avatar 8:19pm Don-O:

No problem.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm ultradamno:

Flying pigs before the other Pink band...and with sunglasses.
Avatar 8:22pm solo mon:

Intestinal sounds? I smell a hit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Rich in Washington:

The Pink Fairies was a panic move after something fell through.
  8:23pm ARB:

Mmmmmm dinner time
Avatar 8:23pm Don-O:

The Weathermen would find this track VERY interesting.
Avatar 8:24pm solo mon:

Ok now I feel like this song is speaking to me personally
Avatar 8:25pm solo mon:

Yay book of love!
Avatar 8:25pm solo mon:

I played a book of love track on primal this week :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Rich in Washington:

That's probably what made me think of them. I really love them.
Avatar 8:27pm solo mon:

Me too they were cool. The dude from bop has a great new band ( or did) I have to look it up can’t remember the name
Avatar 8:28pm solo mon:

BOL not bop
Avatar 8:29pm solo mon:

The Myrmidons! That’s what they r called
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Kat in Chicago:

That’s a good name
Avatar 8:32pm solo mon:

Yah great name right ?
Avatar 8:32pm ARB:

There's a coin shortage?
Avatar 8:33pm ARB:

They are really trying to eradicate cash
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm ultradamno:

Not being able to buy food when the systems are down will be awesome.
Avatar 8:34pm ARB:

What film is this from?
Avatar 8:35pm ARB:

Sounds a little like Mary Woronov?
Avatar 8:35pm solo mon:

Not kidding we are planning a barter system in our neighborhood for food and some other things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Rich in Washington:

Andy Warhol's Bad
Avatar 8:36pm ARB:

Ah so it is, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Kat in Chicago:

Supposedly it’s because people are staying home and not spending their coins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Rich in Washington:

It's Brigid Berlin. And Susan Tyrell.
Avatar 8:36pm ARB:

Well if they would just open the damn arcades!
Avatar 8:36pm solo mon:

It’s Brigid isn’t it? Love all the colon tube themed bits
Avatar 8:36pm ARB:

Oh, Susan Tyrell, I like her even more than Mary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Kat in Chicago:

RIP Brigid
Avatar 8:37pm solo mon:

Susan Tyrell is amazing!
Avatar 8:37pm ARB:

Avatar 8:38pm solo mon:

A good friend of mine and Granny’s befriended Susan the last few years of her life. Was amazing to get a peek into her weird and legless life.
Avatar 8:38pm ARB:

Isn't is strange that her song in the Forbidden Zone ends with "Like a crane with no legs"
Avatar 8:39pm solo mon:

ARB that seemed so uncanny in retro spect.
Avatar 8:40pm ARB:

That intestinal track really got my gastral juices churning
Avatar 8:40pm solo mon:

Omg Hawaiian pups of baby Judy game???
Avatar 8:40pm solo mon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Rich in Washington:

I actually didn't know that that record was really a diagnosis tool. It's on the same label as Stockhausen and Walkman, so thought it was a snarky take off of weirdo medical records. But no.
Avatar 8:42pm solo mon:

Has coinstar not emptied any of their machines since the pandemic started?
Avatar 8:43pm solo mon:

There was a really cool club in SF called Baby Judy after that song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm ultradamno:

The podcast Noisextra is all about Cab's The Voice Of America this week. www.noisextra.com
Avatar 8:44pm solo mon:

Those colon sounds are over the top, yes if I heard those sounds I would know something is wrong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, ultradamno! I will check it out. I'm a huge fan of CV.
Avatar 8:47pm ironybread:

I didn't know anything about Cabaret Voltaire, despite that big poster on Ferris Bueller's wall, until 1993 when I was in college and discovered "Everything Is True" www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm ultradamno:

Always loved Red Mecca and Sluggin' in particular...and Nag, obviously.

great show Rich, gut gurgles and all :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Kat in Chicago:

Sticking around for the Crap, which seems sort of appropriate after the colon concerto
