A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

One beautiful thing about the Drummer Stream is that there are no FCC restrictions.

I've been hearing that rank 'n' file military, many black and brown, are antsy about things. May be why that top general Milley recently "walked back" his participation in the Lafayette Park triumphal walk. Interesting and something you won't hear much about on the News.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Handy Haversack:

ami, when a friend was moving out of BK a few years back (splitter!), it was on one of these gruesomely hot summer days. I showed up to help out, but he also had movers, super nice guys who dealt with the conditions with good spirit. My friend went to the store to get Gatorades for everyone -- and only when getting back realized it was Ramadan and these guys had been doing all the work without even water! They took the Gatorades for later.

Yeti Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am WoodsOfNH:

@Trouble True. And he seems to think that there's a difference between Universal Mail-In Voting and Absentee Voting. Either that or it's more gaslighting. Hard to tell anymore.

@Handy Haversack:Many movers are dumb too. It's a really hard job, from all directions, aspects, most movers just want to get it over with, professionaly, get the tip,and go home.
(sit, smoke, drink, life)(maybe a female friend). work to live, don't live to work.
  9:39am Bill W:

It's true that that drump cannot legally delay the election. He has federal troops kidnapping protestors off the street, and he "can't" do that either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Damn tracFone...
Bluntly - fair & democratic small D elections are the enemy of the Republican Party - as demographics are against them. This election is especially Drumpf's enemy - as he f*cked the pandemic response 1000% trying to appeal to his cult - & the economy has turned completely upside down.
& Murikans vote their wallets.
So - he'll throw any obstacle - & any shade on the Election he can from his shady Artlessness of the Deal Mein Drumpf manual he can Con. Stormtrooper photo ops - gutting & disabling the USPS against mail ballots - any scam @ all.
He'll have to be dragged twittering & raving & dogwhistling to the KKK from the Oval Office.
Bum rush that Vote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am YETI BOB:

@ami: Last time I moved the guys who we hired were terrific. Industriuous, careful, and clever. Our box-spring wasn't going to go up the spiral staircase, they tied a rope to it and hauled it up outside the building and into a bedroom window! Never thought it would work, but it did. Those guys got a big tip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Ken From Hyde Park:

@YB - Lucky you had a large enough window.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Handy Haversack:

Trouble, we have a white-haired, green-eyed cat, Lulu. She is an absolute diva. The sort of being that makes the air molecules around her more interesting.

We try to imagine putting a wig and bandana on her, and our imaginations just fail. She'd never stand for it!

But the temptation is there, thanks to you ...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am YETI BOB:

I've heard about white cats being deaf, but I've known several white cats and they all had normal hearing. So maybe it's not that prevalent. (Or I just have a small sample size).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Handy Haversack:

@Trouble, with white-haired cats, I have heard the deafness gene travels with the blue-eyes gene, so if you have a green-eyed white cat, they are less likely to be deaf. Lulu certainly is not. She can hear us talking about her from two rooms away!

She was actually on television! A show called Louie (w/creepy Louis C. K.). First season filmed in our neighborhood, and Lulu was a deli cat at the time. She has a speaking part!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am YETI BOB:

@HH: One of my crazy friends races sailboats for fun (crew, not owner). He invited me to bring the Klepper to the harbor, we put it together on the dock and paddled around Du Sable Harbor. At one point our friends in the sailboat tossed us a rope and towed us (my friend in the bow held on), probably plenty of good reasons you shouldn't do this, we were laughing our heads off and as soon as it got to be too much he just let go of the rope.

@GST: Handy and I are planning a race to go visit David (in London). Handy is paddling a canoe, stocked with gin, and I will be in a kayak, stocked with hashish. (No food or fresh water, as per Alain Bombard). Whoever gets there first wins the prize, a bottle of rare Freya Birch Spirit.
Avatar 10:06am TDK60:

Glad that tree didn't land on your house, Trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am YETI BOB:

But I'm in Chicago and Handy is in Brooklyn, so the race doesn't start until I get to Brooklyn via the Great Lakes and Erie Canal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Handy Haversack:

Ha! That's great Yeti Bob. If you have a few spare dollars, find a book called _Canoe Rig: The Essence and the Art_. You will immediately want to start tying canoes together and rigging up sails. It's a gorgeous book. I picked it up at the Wooden Boat Center in Maine a couple of years back.

Sounds like Miéville's _The Scar_ could also be on the reading list for this crew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Well, perhaps The Good Ship Ticklish Diablito could be the flagship for the excursion! We've got karaoke and lots of beverages.
Avatar 10:08am Trouble:

yes@ tdk60; so i am i!! no serious property damage just lots of garden destruction and cleanup work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am David (in London):

I think I might need to obtain some form of trophy for the winner. Maybe I should whittle something out of driftwood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

YETI BOB: i hear ya. First i gotta get to the Catskills to fetch Captain Linda Lee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am YETI BOB:

@HH: The Klepper has fixtures for an optional mast and sail. Of course all the sailboat people I was hanging out with yesterday said I simply *must* get that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Handy Haversack:

Oh, also, I shared your Am I Blue recipe with a friend in Scotland, and he has it on his list. He had just done his Masters of Malt(!) order, but the Freya Birch Spirit was out of stock anyways, so it's on his wishlist for the next time. He will report back!

Oh, hotsie motsie, I love the Good Ship Ticklish Diablito already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am suzyhotrod:

Trouble, thanks for the birds song. I checked it out on Bandcamp and they have beautiful art prints to to support the album as well. It looks like the same artist who did design work for the Audubon Society. I'm half assedly getting into birds.

Walked outside last night comet hunting - but utterly overcast. I only hope I'm not too late to see it beneath the Dipper.
Also Jupiter & Saturn near each other for a while - currently high in the night. I've seen Jupiter moons with just binoculars.
Despite clouds I heard happy confirmation that indeed crickets still exist this year - despite my missing their loud symphony as in recent years from inside in open window season... A most reassuring & enchanting sound...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am redbee:

@WoodsOfNH - Perhaps you already know about the Merlin Bird ID app? That's not quite what you're looking for, but if you narrow down to region and whether you're hearing it from the trees or ground, etc, you could then listen to the song samples of each possible result. That's the best way that I know of, but I'd love to find the thing you're describing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am WoodsOfNH:

@redbee Thanks. I'll check that out. Actually might be better than a Shazam-type thing because during the day in the summer here there's a fair amount of car traffic that would mess stuff up.
