Hello Larry, and kings and birds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Theo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm doctorjazz:

Ahhhh, love this Beach Boys album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Funky16Corners:

A beautiful song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm CHUCK ROAST:

But is it the Beach Boys?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Funky16Corners:

No, this is from Brian's reimagining of Smile from 2004
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Funky16Corners:

And, Hi Chuck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Testify is on? Smile.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Michael 98145:

sweet start
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Funky16Corners:

If you've never given this album a chance, it's really amazing. Maybe her last great work, and mostly as a singer (though he covers some of her own songs)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm doctorjazz:

Mr Richard Thompson! Great stuff! (So sad I couldn't get to his outdoor Joisey concert this past Saturday!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Funky16Corners:

I didn't hear about it until it was over, and he did Who Knows Where the Time Goes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm doctorjazz:

This is on Pour Down Like Silver, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Funky16Corners:

The original version is. This is a live take from the Guitar/Vocal album, recorded at Oxford Polytechnic in 1975 on the Richard/Linda tour
Avatar 3:30pm Erella:

This is great. Thank you.
Sometimes I forget about Richard and Linda Thompson.
Avatar 3:30pm Erica:

During this pandemic doc it's best that you didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Funky16Corners:

Hi Erella!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm doctorjazz:

The show was originally Wednesday night, and I was definitely going. It Got rained out, rain date Saturday, when we had plans to celebrate my younger daughter's 22nd birthday (couldn't convince her to go to Woodbrdge after the celebration). Man...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Funky16Corners:

He did Genesis Hall, too.
Avatar 3:33pm Erica:

Sorry to hear that doc. You did try.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Funky16Corners:

I've seen him five or six times over the years (always solo) and the only Fairport-era song I ever saw him play was 'She Moves Through the Fair'. I saw him on a bill with Iaian Matthews and they didn't play together at all which shocked me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm doctorjazz:

You're probably right, @Erica, though it was set up to be socially isolated, spaced, outdoors, everyone masked, would have risked it.
(I have Guitar/vocal, but haven't played it in a long time...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

Th live stuff om G/V is amazing. The long version of Calvary Cross, especially
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm doctorjazz:

Seen him many, many times, solo, with band, and in a fun solo set at The City Winery, where her had the audience fill out slips of paper with requests before the set, and he picked therm out of a bowland played them. One wise guy requested And Your Bird Can Sing, and he made a mighty effort, almost pulled it off on solo acoustic guitar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Funky16Corners:

I think my brother was at that show! I just want to hear him do Meet On the Ledge, live. Just once. Then you can toss me under the steam roller.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm doctorjazz:

(I just received a Davy Graham LP as part of my FMU swag...didn't know about him back when).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

I don't think he made any inroads in the US at all during the 60s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm doctorjazz:

There are so many great Fairport and Richard/Linda songs for him to go through (and he has his solo stuff, that I'm sure he likes to feature).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Funky16Corners:

I love the version of 'Meet On the Ledge' on Small Town Romance, where he talks about almost never playing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm doctorjazz:

Have to pull out Small Town Romance again, don't remember it. Love the original!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm doctorjazz:

Loving the jazz set, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks!
Avatar 3:56pm Little Danny:

Byootiful. Doug hipped me to Jackson C. Frank, have yet to really dig into his catalog tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Funky16Corners:

There's not much of a catalog, but that first album is perfection.
Avatar 3:57pm Little Danny:

Reminds me a bit of Capitol-era Fred Neil
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Funky16Corners:

Excellent comparison
Avatar 3:59pm Little Danny:

Always love unabashedly pretty folk music. This is new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Funky16Corners:

This is a Jackson C Frank cover. This Headless Heroes album is all covers, many interesting ones
Avatar 4:03pm Little Danny:

This Jody Miller is also gorgeous! Nashville-meets-Wrecking-Crew vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Funky16Corners:

Isn't it? I think I first heard it on Uncle Michael's show. Penn/Oldham song, covered by a bunch of people
Avatar 4:07pm Brian in UK:

Hey Larry and cool notes.

Meet on the Ledge is the song that they finish Cropredy with
every year. Brings everyone together for the big ending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Brian!
Avatar 4:10pm Erica:

Hello Brian. Sorry for not saying much here today. Just enjoying the music.
Avatar 4:12pm Brian in UK:

Hello Erica, been a hot one over here today.

Larry. I understand your comment at 3:40.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm dreamyandseedy:

loved the sergio mendes song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Funky16Corners:

Hi dreamyandseedy!
Avatar 4:13pm Erica:

Surprised to hear Wings here. But I'm sure you are getting tired of that type of comment by now Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Funky16Corners:

Never! I live for the element of surprise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm dreamyandseedy:

hey little danny! i've been listening to and enjoying your archives a lot (i'm in the hill country, not too terribly far from you) one day i'll stay up late and listen live
Avatar 4:24pm Brian in UK:

Great record label name. Tetragrammaton.
Avatar 4:24pm Little Danny:

Hi thank dreamyandseedy! Thank you! And hello! Where about in the Hill Country are ye?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Yes, really unusual catalog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm dreamyandseedy:

@little danny - just outside the town of Llano (very close to Enchanted Rock State Park)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm doctorjazz:

The one Biff Rose song I remember (the one that got radio play), was Molly, which is a great tune.
Avatar 4:30pm Brian in UK:

Ah, Natures Children.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

enjoying this set, hi, Larry and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Funky16Corners:

@Doc - I love that song. It makes me cry...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Granny! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm doctorjazz:

A Gary Lewis ballad, so different from what I'd expectto hear from him. Nice.
Avatar 4:34pm Erica:

Sounds ahead of it's time huh doc?
  4:34pm CalZone!:

Keep the faith, LG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Cal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Funky16Corners:

Didja hear the Toitles?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

How come Roberta always makes everything sound so deeply right?
  4:36pm CalZone!:

just missed it.

can you play again? ;)

jk...
Avatar 4:36pm Erica:

Heard that one many times before Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Funky16Corners:

It's always worth hearing again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm doctorjazz:

Sometimes, having a voice is a good thing on a Cohen song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm doctorjazz:

Then again, sometimes having Cohen's voice is just perfect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Funky16Corners:

I like Lenny's voice, too. This is one of my all time favorite albums
Avatar 4:39pm Sem:

Been sitting in the back pew, listening along. Nice to hear Leonard from the early days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Sem!
Avatar 4:39pm Brian in UK:

I remember in the late Sixties, a lot of people heard the voice not the words.
Avatar 4:40pm Brian in UK:

Larry, how many favourite albums do you have. My guess is three figures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Funky16Corners:

You'd have to break it down by genres. I class them like that if I return to them frequently and generally listen to the whole thing. This is def one of those
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Funky16Corners:

Another one coming up next!
Avatar 4:42pm Sem:

At this time, Cohen had his second and last novel, Beautiful Losers, in the bookstores.

Harrowing post-modernism. Finally read and undrstood it last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Funky16Corners:

Seriously!
Avatar 4:42pm Brian in UK:

No duds is the essence of a great one and timelessness.
Avatar 4:43pm Erica:

Classic FWM before they became popular with Stevie Nicks.
Avatar 4:44pm Brian in UK:

Sem, read it a long time ago with the Favourite Game. Always hope for more novels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

I've never read that. I should seek it out.
Avatar 4:45pm Brian in UK:

Larry, never ceases to amaze me how prolific were those groups in the Sixties.
Avatar 4:46pm Sem:

Supposed you might have given it a tumble, Brian.
Avatar 4:47pm Brian in UK:

A bit along the lines of Joni's painting compared to her songs.
Avatar 4:47pm Little Danny:

@dreamyandseedy: nice! As a former Austinite I've swum many times in your river. How's rainfall been for you this summer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I was talking with someone here on the board recently about how many of the great 60s bands were turning out two or three albums a year!
Avatar 4:49pm Brian in UK:

Sem, do you have a potato fork or do you prong the tats with a trad fork. I always manage to spoil one on each plant lifted.
Avatar 4:51pm Brian in UK:

Larry, the Beatles were making umpteen records, films, touring the world. Now top bands can make a fortune touring, not then.
Avatar 4:52pm Brian in UK:

Larry, that vast output has kept us nourished for these many years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm dutchtheo:

thanks Larry! bye!
Avatar 4:55pm Sem:

Brian: use my hands. Earth sign, you know.
Avatar 4:56pm Brian in UK:

Sem, hoping the new grandson will be the potato chaser in the future!!
Avatar 4:57pm Sem:

Set a good example, granddad.
Avatar 4:58pm Erica:

Peter Green will be missed.
Avatar 4:59pm Little Danny:

Thanks Larry! See y'all!
  4:59pm CalZone!:

I met Gary Lewis last year at am instore and I brought my copy of New Directions and had him sign it. He looked at the sleeve fondly and said 'This was a really good one'.
Avatar 4:59pm Brian in UK:

Larry, spot on with PG. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm dreamyandseedy:

@little danny - i too am a former resident of austin (2005-2014). we had a lot of rain early in the summer, but not so much lately. plenty of water in the river though, i need to get down there!
