If you've never given this album a chance, it's really amazing. Maybe her last great work, and mostly as a singer (though he covers some of her own songs)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm

Mr Richard Thompson! Great stuff! (So sad I couldn't get to his outdoor Joisey concert this past Saturday!)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm

I didn't hear about it until it was over, and he did Who Knows Where the Time Goes...

This is on Pour Down Like Silver, no?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:30pm

The original version is. This is a live take from the Guitar/Vocal album, recorded at Oxford Polytechnic in 1975 on the Richard/Linda tour

This is great. Thank you.

The show was originally Wednesday night, and I was definitely going. It Got rained out, rain date Saturday, when we had plans to celebrate my younger daughter's 22nd birthday (couldn't convince her to go to Woodbrdge after the celebration). Man...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

He did Genesis Hall, too.
Avatar 🥁 3:33pm
Erica:

Sorry to hear that doc. You did try.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Funky16Corners:

I've seen him five or six times over the years (always solo) and the only Fairport-era song I ever saw him play was 'She Moves Through the Fair'. I saw him on a bill with Iaian Matthews and they didn't play together at all which shocked me
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
doctorjazz:

You're probably right, @Erica, though it was set up to be socially isolated, spaced, outdoors, everyone masked, would have risked it.
(I have Guitar/vocal, but haven't played it in a long time...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Funky16Corners:

Th live stuff om G/V is amazing. The long version of Calvary Cross, especially
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
doctorjazz:

Seen him many, many times, solo, with band, and in a fun solo set at The City Winery, where her had the audience fill out slips of paper with requests before the set, and he picked therm out of a bowland played them. One wise guy requested And Your Bird Can Sing, and he made a mighty effort, almost pulled it off on solo acoustic guitar!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Funky16Corners:

I think my brother was at that show! I just want to hear him do Meet On the Ledge, live. Just once. Then you can toss me under the steam roller.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
doctorjazz:

(I just received a Davy Graham LP as part of my FMU swag...didn't know about him back when).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Funky16Corners:

I don't think he made any inroads in the US at all during the 60s
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
doctorjazz:

There are so many great Fairport and Richard/Linda songs for him to go through (and he has his solo stuff, that I'm sure he likes to feature).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Funky16Corners:

I love the version of 'Meet On the Ledge' on Small Town Romance, where he talks about almost never playing it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
doctorjazz:

Have to pull out Small Town Romance again, don't remember it. Love the original!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm

Little Danny:

Byootiful. Doug hipped me to Jackson C. Frank, have yet to really dig into his catalog tho.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Funky16Corners:

There's not much of a catalog, but that first album is perfection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
Little Danny:

Reminds me a bit of Capitol-era Fred Neil
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Funky16Corners:

Excellent comparison
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Little Danny:

Always love unabashedly pretty folk music. This is new to me.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Funky16Corners:

This is a Jackson C Frank cover. This Headless Heroes album is all covers, many interesting ones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Little Danny:

This Jody Miller is also gorgeous! Nashville-meets-Wrecking-Crew vibes.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:05pm

Isn't it? I think I first heard it on Uncle Michael's show. Penn/Oldham song, covered by a bunch of people

Sometimes, having a voice is a good thing on a Cohen song.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:38pm

Then again, sometimes having Cohen's voice is just perfect.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm

I like Lenny's voice, too. This is one of my all time favorite albums

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Brian in UK:

I remember in the late Sixties, a lot of people heard the voice not the words.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
Brian in UK:

Larry, how many favourite albums do you have. My guess is three figures.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Funky16Corners:

You'd have to break it down by genres. I class them like that if I return to them frequently and generally listen to the whole thing. This is def one of those
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Funky16Corners:

Another one coming up next!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
Sem:

At this time, Cohen had his second and last novel, Beautiful Losers, in the bookstores.

Harrowing post-modernism. Finally read and undrstood it last year.

Larry, never ceases to amaze me how prolific were those groups in the Sixties.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Sem:

Supposed you might have given it a tumble, Brian.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Brian in UK:

A bit along the lines of Joni's painting compared to her songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Little Danny:

@dreamyandseedy: nice! As a former Austinite I've swum many times in your river. How's rainfall been for you this summer?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:48pm

@Brian - I was talking with someone here on the board recently about how many of the great 60s bands were turning out two or three albums a year!

Sem, do you have a potato fork or do you prong the tats with a trad fork. I always manage to spoil one on each plant lifted.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Brian in UK:

Larry, the Beatles were making umpteen records, films, touring the world. Now top bands can make a fortune touring, not then.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
