Hi David! Well... one ticket to 186 please! Hello all!
Avatar 3:01pm StringOFperils:

Hello David. Hearing you.
Avatar 3:01pm fred:

Hello David and fellow travelers
Avatar 3:02pm Really Lisa:

Hello David and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm David Dichelle:

Hey there Bas, String, Fred, Lisa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm doctorjazz:

Hello David and riders!
Avatar 3:11pm Sem:

Hello, David, and all aboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm David Dichelle:

Hello Doc and Sem!
Avatar 3:17pm Listening Out There:

Good start to the program today....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, LOT!
Avatar 3:19pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and fellow travellers.

It was a roundabout....cue a Yes song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Brian - feel free to circle around as often as you like!
Avatar 3:32pm fred:

@Sem: I thought of Cape Breton reading a short story today, but it turned out to take place on an island in Maine. Not that I know much about Cape Breton, but some things echoed MacLeod
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Phillippe Bastille:

howdy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm David Dichelle:

Howdy PB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Bas NL:

*knocking coconut halves*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Carmichael:

Heya David and The Dicheveled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Carmichael:

Saw Kirkpatrick play with Richard Thompson many moons ago.
Avatar 3:39pm fred:

Sir Robin's bravery is indeed the stuff of legend, and has been sung about widely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm dutchtheo:

How do. Get thy kicks on Roud 70, to Sherwood, please
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm David Dichelle:

Hey Carmichael, sounds like a good show to catch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm David Dichelle:

And hello Dutchtheo, 70 to 186 via all points East...
Avatar 3:40pm TDK60:

Hello; at least I made it for some of the Roudiness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm David Dichelle:

And welcome TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm David Dichelle:

Bas: That would work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Bas NL:

The instant sound of chivalry... ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm David Dichelle:

And the coconut content makes for a nice bonus!
Avatar 3:48pm Sem:

Hi, fred. I think isolation, making a living with your physical labour, poverty, and dire circumstance might be common themes of island life anywhere. Who were you reading?
Avatar 3:50pm northguineahills:

brain physicalogically listening. Once I reboot it, I may be able to throw some rabbit holes on the historiography of the tale of robyn hode....(moving, etc right now)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm David Dichelle:

Hey NGH, sounds like a busy time. Where are you moving to?
Avatar 3:53pm northguineahills:

back to Orlando. Jacksonville is a cesspool. New job starting a week. (remote, but I still need to be near, and Orldando is a decent place).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Carmichael:

I thought this was Tull for a minute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm David Dichelle:

NGH: Well good luck especially under the circumstances!
Avatar 3:55pm βrian:

I did think I heard the sound of a seed drill, myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Carmichael:

Isn't this the instrumental line for Matty Groves?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Bas NL:

Great set of Roud numbers!
Avatar 3:58pm fred:

@Sem A short story by Mary Kuryla, in the latest Conjunctions. What reminded me of Cape Breton was descriptions of a ferry, a road going up to scarcely populated highland, fishing boats and ice, nothing plot related
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Bas NL:

Only a couple of hundreds.. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Andrew_in_WI:

If psych bands played renaissance fairs it would sound like that
Avatar 4:00pm Sem:

Thanks for that, fred. I'll check that story out.
Avatar 4:00pm βrian:

@Sem: have you been over to Saint Pierre and Miquelon?
Avatar 4:00pm northguineahills:

If you're interested in the the development of English and other language, Kevin Stroud does the History of English podcast. It starts in the proto-Indo-European period, and now it's in the 15th c, the middle English period. : historyofenglishpodcast.com
Avatar 4:01pm northguineahills:

@Carmichael: I was thinking the same thing, same Fairport melody....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Michael 98145:

g'day, all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Michael 98145:

love that forlorn photo. been to many places like that.
Avatar 4:02pm fred:

@Sem: It's kind of a horror story, you'd probably be disappointed. I just picked up a few notes of local color that reminded me of something else
Avatar 4:03pm Sem:

I have not, βrian. I am assured it's as continental French as it is possible to be.
Avatar 4:03pm northguineahills:

Middle school dances were the most awkward.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Bas NL:

Bronwyn Discotheque! :D
Avatar 4:03pm Sem:

A horror story from Maine not written by Stephen King. Now I am more interested.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Carmichael:

Never went to middle school, don't know what that is ...
Avatar 4:05pm Sem:

βrian: air travel there from YHZ, Halifax International Airport, btw. Not cheap in $CDN.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm David Dichelle:

Greetings Andrew and Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm David Dichelle:

St. P. et M. has always sounded intriguing to me as well.
Avatar 4:10pm northguineahills:

Triakel, new to me and digdug! I always wanted to visit St Pierre & Miquelon. But since it's France proper, I hope it's nicer then the de Gaulle airport.....oh, they have a nice 'unofficial' flag.
Avatar 4:11pm TDK60:

Yes David and Brian, me too. I wonder if they have connections culturally with mainland Quebec. (It's technically part of France).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Carmichael:

I thought they were singing about "a palindrome."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Carmichael:

www.celticlyricscorner.net...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm David Dichelle:

There do need to be more songs about palindromes, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm David Dichelle:

And hello βrian! Just saw you up there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

been enjoying this set. hi, David and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Carmichael:

All I know is that the palindrome for Bolton is "Notlob".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Carmichael:

Heya Spicy Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Bas NL:

Not an easy sing-a-long this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, GST!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm chresti:

Hi David and Continentals! Home from work..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm David Dichelle:

Welcome, Chresti!
Avatar 4:39pm northguineahills:

Thanks to James Joyce, the longest palindrome is "tattarrattat".
Avatar 4:39pm TDK60:

That background music may be an instrumental version of the Dave Clark 5's "Because."
Avatar 4:40pm northguineahills:

(if you subscribe to the authority of the Oxford English Dictionary)
Avatar 4:40pm northguineahills:

(longest single word, that is a palindrome)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Stanley:

I've just got on. Good evening.
I'll sit at the back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm David Dichelle:

Welcome aboard, Stanley - there's also a seat free at the bar if you like...
Avatar 4:44pm βrian:

@Stanley: How's that new pond on your country estate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Andrew_in_WI:

Smoke house song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Bas NL:

So familiar. I think i have this Ton Steine Scherben album.. somewhere..
Avatar 4:47pm northguineahills:

@Andrew: yeah, my duetsch is out of practice, but it seems like they smoked some green, due to the euphenisms in that song....
Avatar 4:48pm northguineahills:

German compound words, they make sense, but makes one's eyes hurt...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm David Dichelle:

Andrew: It could be but it's actually for the Rauch-Haus named for Georg von Rauch: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 4:49pm northguineahills:

aye, I'm on the phone, Trying to connect the dots while on hold...
Avatar 4:50pm TDK60:

Read a book on the German squatter, autonomist, and anti-nuke movements from the '60s thru '90s. Intense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm David Dichelle:

NGH: The name of the band is intentionally absurd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Stanley:

@βrian: still dreaming of the country estate and amphibian friends. Hoping to look at a cottage next week. It's a bit remote but, hell, I could make it work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Bas NL:

I think the longest German compound word is Eisenbahnknotenpunktenhinundherschieber. David?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Andrew_in_WI:

@David Thanks. A good portion of my German I learned from beer labels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm David Dichelle:

Bas: It's actually Eisenbahnknotenpunktenhinundherschieberuniformknopfhersteller
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm David Dichelle:

ähm... -fabrik
Avatar 4:52pm βrian:

Remote is where it's at, I hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm David Dichelle:

Andrew: The approach does have many benefits!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Bas NL:

Dreifach Word Werte?
Avatar 4:53pm TDK60:

Stanley, maybe moving to the country?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm David Dichelle:

Bas: I'm sure there are even longer ones in Dutch.
Avatar 4:55pm northguineahills:

Bas just broke my brain.

I have a hard time following German hiphop, as the lyrics are too fast (and the slang and euphenisms). But then again, I don't get lyrics in English for any genre.
Avatar 4:57pm βrian:

I can never distinguish the real lyrics from the mondegreens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Bas NL:

Dutch has a LOT of compound words.. but not that long!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Stanley:

TDK - trying to rent something in the countryside, while keeping the flat in Edinburgh. Maybe just for six months to a year, while we decide what's best to do.Trouble is, you have to get out of commuting distance to get a reasonable price. And, man it can get very cold and snowy over winter.
Avatar 5:02pm TDK60:

Good luck with what comes along, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm chresti:

I think there ought to be a universal limit to how many words are allowed in a compound word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Stanley:

Thanks, TDK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm chresti:

My son and his partner are considering moving to Europe if the giant orange baby wins the "election" in the US.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Carmichael:

Same here, I could retire and return to Ireland. Very tempted ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm David Dichelle:

Chresti: Usually there are common-sense limits to words in normal real use and they are all relatively straightforward to parse, just written with fewer gaps between words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm David Dichelle:

Chresti: It helps if someone has European citizenship, but there are other ways as well of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm David Dichelle:

Sounds nice, Stanley, hope it works out.
Avatar 5:13pm northguineahills:

I lost my copy of the I Ching when I moved (amongst other items). I'm still crestfallen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm David Dichelle:

And Carmichael as well - everyone on the potential move today!
Avatar 5:14pm northguineahills:

Thanks for the kind words, the other day, TDK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm David Dichelle:

I can't decide whether this is a Beatles cover or not.
Avatar 5:16pm northguineahills:

I'm still looking at moving to Mexico. But, I'd need more money to buy property to get citizenship. So, catch-22. (and I could get a job there)
Avatar 5:16pm TDK60:

Don't even recall NGH, but you're welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm David Dichelle:

TDK: Yes it is a cover of Because, I believe. (catching up from far upthread)
Avatar 5:18pm northguineahills:

....but, gov't and corporate jobs in Mexico are more tre effed then they are in the US. (according to the wife and friends).
Avatar 5:18pm Really Lisa:

Gotta head out. Thank you, David!
Peace, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm David Dichelle:

Thanks Lisa!
Avatar 5:23pm fred:

@chresti: well, elections haven't exactly been going in an encouraging direction in many european countries lately, so they should take their time and pick wisely. I wouldn't recommend France for that reason. We seem to be headed for neo-nazi rule in a couple of years
Avatar 5:24pm TDK60:

Fred, you're in France? Where, may I ask?
Avatar 5:25pm fred:

@TDK60: a suburb of Paris
Avatar 5:26pm northguineahills:

Well, outside of central Europe and Poland, the elections are going marginally better then the US. So, there's is that. (low bar, I know).
Avatar 5:27pm fred:

Many different vibes in that Per Norgard piece, I love it
Avatar 5:27pm northguineahills:

off to eat, Sorensen, new to me and digdug, thanks David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm David Dichelle:

Thanks and bon appetit, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Bas NL:

I met a lot of US citizens in Berlin while visiting there. They'd moved there because of tolerance and the amazing cultural scene..
Avatar 5:28pm fred:

@Bas: and the rent, I guess
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm David Dichelle:

Fred: I sincerely hope it won't go as far as all that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, David, heading out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Dr. J.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Bas NL:

Not a small something @fred! Jobs can pay lousy there as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Carmichael:

Even the prog concerts I went to in the 70s didn't have drum solos this long.
Avatar 5:34pm fred:

@Carm: the prog police has been defunded
Avatar 5:37pm TDK60:

I have friends, an American couple, living in Norway now. I'm envious for sure.
Avatar 5:38pm fred:

@TDK60: that's easy to say in summer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Bas NL:

Mmm.. only 50 letters in the longest (dictionary) Dutch word: aansprakelijkheidswaardevaststellingsveranderingen.
Avatar 5:39pm TDK60:

Fred, I don't mind cold weather that much. As long as my socks are dry and my gloves are on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm David Dichelle:

Bas: Trying hard to figure that one out (Ansprachlichkeits...veränderungen?)
Avatar 5:43pm Sem:

Looks like this is where I leave the subway. Fascinating music and talk, as per usual. See you and all next time, David
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm chresti:

I don't think Germany is letting anyone from the US in right now. They're looking at France or Belgium, they know some french. I'll tell them fred, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm David Dichelle:

Thanks Sem, enjoy your evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm David Dichelle:

Chresti, there are probably similar regulations everywhere in the EU, finding a job (or course of study perhaps) beforehand is key, I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Bas NL:

Something like changes in established liability value.. i'll have to ask my lawyers if that's a bad thing though..
Avatar 5:47pm TDK60:

See ya, Sem (up at the Bay of Fundy, right?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm David Dichelle:

It does sound like a legal term, that's where the German compounds can in fact go for lines at a time - all with the correct hyphenization of course!
Avatar 5:47pm fred:

The longest french word only clocks in at 25 letters I think, though business jargon might have crept up a few (adding "ing" is worth 3)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm David Dichelle:

Nothing like business jargon in any language - lots of partly made-up English-sounding words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Bas NL:

And all the best long legal words require small print. He, he... as long as we have you do some of the best radioing David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Bas! Never did get around to studying law...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm chresti:

Thanks David!
Avatar 5:56pm fred:

@chresti: Belgium is cheaper, but French only works in the South, the Northern part is Flemish (and it's a sore subject). In France Paris is very expensive, other cities not so much but it all depends on what kind of job they're looking for (the country is still pretty much centralized, though it got better). If they have money though, everything will be alright, anywhere
Avatar 5:56pm StringOFperils:

Fabulous music, thanks for playing it, David !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Chresti and String!
Avatar 5:58pm TDK60:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Linda Lee:

wow! how sweet to find a new & brilliant composer i share a birthday with! fabulous! thanks David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm chresti:

Avatar 5:58pm fred:

Thanks David, great show as always
Avatar 5:58pm βrian:

Back just in time to say bye. Thanks, DD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Bas NL:

Thanks David! Great show again!
Avatar 5:59pm fred:

@chresti: Maybe they should check out Grenoble
Avatar 6:00pm Listening Out There:

Will catch up from the archive. Adios!
