Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

The single albums were split to two platters for the series.

  1:14pm Dean:

"Non...C'est Rien" was composed by Jourdan, Baselli & Canfora. The English lyrics were written by Colby. Oddly, a 1965 Billboard article appears to report that Jourdan composed the French lyrics for Barbra Streisand, who recorded it in 1966, suggesting it didn't originally have lyrics. Yet the article refers to "Barbra Streisand's Gallic version of 'Free Again.'" This suggests Colby wrote English lyrics before Jourdan wrote French lyrics. Meanwhile, a year later in 1967 Jacqueline Danno recorded a French version again attributed to Jourdan, Baselli & Canfora.

Hey everyone, I am monitoring an auction on a BIC 860 turntable. It's an on-line auction so I can't test its functionality. It looks intact, with dust cover. Not too early for a drink.
Avatar 1:24pm Paul from Toronto:

UB40 covered Tony Tribe's version of Red Red Wine, really.
Avatar 1:25pm Roberto:

I could never pick my bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Damn Diamond sing good as well as Write. I predict good things for him...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Stanley:

Forever and ever......forever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm annie:

KILLIN" it um!!
  1:28pm Dean:

What a coincidence. I'm reading a later Billboard piece about French recording companies that happens to mention "Non...C'est Rien." A photo of Demis Roussos appears in the article.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Always imagine a certain Bass clack on 'I'm Looking Thru You' by Beatles - but might be self-hypnosis...
Avatar 1:31pm Roberto:

No nose-down-lookin' on my part, I just wasn't physically capable of pickin' it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Don't even use one on Gittar - just another thing to pay for & obtain... all different sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Rich in Washington:

I adore Bob & Ray.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Doug Schulkind:

My lawyers are drawing up papers at this hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Uncle Michael:

Fine...I'll name MY first band in high school TOADFISH. Our publicist wants that spelled all-uppercase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

This Armagedon had Keith Relf?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Michael 98145:

everything is a nail to a heavy hammer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Uncle Michael:

Different band, Rev.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Uncle Michael:

Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Alvy Singer:

Michael Des Barres at his most glam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

UM Right.. Relf one was one album apparently - Captain Beyond adjacent ish.
  1:45pm Dean:

Wait, what was the question? A Dec. 2014 article in IAJRC Journal details Gaillard's recordings for Bel-Tone in '45 and '46 with Dizzie and Bird. It reads, "The basic recording group was always Gaillard’s working Trio to which other musicians were added. The Trio consisted of Slim Gaillard, electric guitar and vocals; Bam Brown, bass; and Zutty Singleton, drums." Trying to figure out the fourth in the Bee Bee Quartette?
  1:45pm dan:

Wild guess, next song is Jerry Garcia’s The Wheel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Uncle Michael:

The other vocalist, Dean.
  1:49pm Dean:

Was Brown per this: https://www.discogs.com/Sonny-Criss-Slim-Gaillard-Roy-Porter-Big-Band-With-Eric-Dolphy-Helen-Humes-Harold-Land-Hampton-Hawes/release/8042477 But if that's the case, who is the fourth in the Q?
  1:50pm Dean:

Liner notes say Dodo Marmorosa was on piano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Uncle Michael:

a mystery persists
  1:51pm Dean:

...no longer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Uncle Michael:

  1:53pm dan:

I didn't need to look and I knew it was Tom Jones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

it's a head-scratcher, Doc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Rich in Washington:

For those of us who grew up on later Tom Jones, earlier stuff is amazing. He's somewhat Scott Walker-adjacent, to coin an earlier phrase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Michael 98145:

drama !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A goof that makes the point Star is not all Chiton. Recorded in that same crazy studio in Memphis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Walker crossed my mind too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Uncle Michael:

Re, the tracks on I Am The Cosmos were recorded in three studios on two continents. One of them was Ardent in Memphis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh yeah Thx! The whole UK sojourn...

One Mike Nesmith song that should have gotten attention was his version of Derek and The Dominos' "I Looked Away".
  2:52pm still b/p:

Thiat Nesmith sing has been much in my ear and mind lately. Pets for nany blocks around are confused, I'm sure, by the sounds in my rendition.
