Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm McGroovey:

This song uses the word "[self-] effacing" more than all other songs ever.
  3:15pm David in London:

Heidee, sigh, he was an absolute inspiration. V sad.
Avatar 3:16pm Heidee:

David, I know... another great one gone... calls out for a tribute show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm McGroovey:

  3:16pm David in London:

Hey Mariano. All fine with me thanks buddy. Been a trying week, as the coffee machine finally gave up the ghost. Just got back from town with a new one. Crisis resolved.

How’s yourself?
  3:17pm Benoni:

I thought BMG bought the rights to press records and CD's and then put adds in circulars 12 records and later CD's for 1 cent. But this is going back a couple decades.
  3:21pm ashley morey:

Love the Bangles song!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm mariano:

That's scary, David - glad you got a new machine. All good here, thanks, finally getting to some projects I've been putting off for no reason. Speaking of coffee and work, time for another café au lait...
Avatar 3:24pm Joe B:

re Bangles - great Jules Shear tune. they 'backed' him on american bandstand around the same time
Avatar 3:31pm Woo:

Last year in Providence I bought hot dogs at the Olneyville New York System where D. Byrne worked while at RISD. They're still proud of him.

A work week bookended by Belock? As if the summer couldnt get any hotter!
  3:43pm Steve Harsh:

@JoeB - gonna take more than a stroke to stop that guy. A force of nature, amazing!
  3:43pm phat:

Holy hell, this Nazz track.
Avatar 3:44pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@phat: my favorite by them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm McGroovey:

I wanna start a cover band that plays Nazz rockers
Avatar 3:46pm Joe B:

Avatar 3:46pm Jim Price:

Todd - If the Franz talk is live, you should ask him about Talking Heads visiting WFMU in 1976 for an interview.
  3:46pm Christina Low:

I can name lots of people that this song goes out to.
Avatar 3:47pm David Shortell:

@joe mulligan
@Todd-o-phonic Todd
It's regrettable that Yvonne Craig was not allowed to sport a bikini in "Surf's Up, Joker's Under". Damned ABC censors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm McGroovey:

This is probably the Nazz song that sounds the most like Utopia.
Avatar 3:48pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Christina Low: Therein lies the rub.
Avatar 3:48pm Woo:

Peter Green was only 73? Another teenage wonder in the Mac days?
  3:49pm Marci:

Another stellar Sat show thanks Todd !
Avatar 3:50pm BEAVO:

Kiln House is the first FM lp after Peter Green left.
Avatar 3:51pm BEAVO:

Rattlesnake Shake!
Avatar 3:51pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@BEAVO: He was still in their hearts.
Avatar 3:53pm David Shortell:

Was "That Awful Man" the song in "Fathers Day"? I paid money to see that lame movie in a theater just because I heard the Muffs were in it!
  3:54pm pinto bean:

And Regis was only 88...something off Its Time for Regis, perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Tommy in Neversink:

I think this is the only Lennon song sung by George
Avatar 3:54pm BEAVO:

Yeah I guess Green's songs are to heavy for your pop format.
Avatar 3:55pm Joe B:

george martin really fired up for that floor tom
  3:56pm Rob (Jerzcity):

Then Ringo goes and tries to drink milk out of a paper pyramid...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Tommy in Neversink:

I got to agree with you TT ..all that business with Ringo going AWOL wasn't all that interesting..yup first half much better
Avatar 3:58pm David Shortell:

I remember while walking up Avenue B one night, I peered through the Lakeside Lounge window and saw a band play an instrumental version of this Beatles song!
Avatar 3:58pm Joe B:

@Tommy - also - do you wanna know a secret, written by john, sung by george
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Tommy in Neversink:

Ah... yes....thanks Joe B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Chop Scott:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Tommy in Neversink:

..I've covered it on my 8 track
Avatar 4:00pm Joe B:

agreed - great song even though Lennon later disparaged it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks for the shout-out, Todd! "Mr. Magloob" forever!
  4:01pm Frank Zaatar:

Sorry, there's John with Anna Quayle. Worth waiting for in the 2nd half of the movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Tommy in Neversink:

That's how Lennon rolls. Even though it's his music his evaluations are the worst
  4:01pm P-90:

A Hard Day’s Night is a movie I’ve seen many times in many different venues, beginning with the original US TV network broadcast as a child. For my money it is equally brilliant from beginning to end, and continues to grow more classic with each passing decade. Another perspective.
  4:02pm french yak:

@Beavo- there's plenty of lovely poppier or ballady Perter Green songs besides the heavy blues rock stuff
@ Tommy in N- Agreed. Grandfather was funny but took way too much screen time from the boys
Avatar 4:02pm BEAVO:

Frantz goes full Mary Trump on Byrne.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm joe mulligan:

haha @David Shoretell, indeed. gotham point was a little chilly so they all wore wetsuits
Avatar 4:02pm Joe B:

@Tommy - agreed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm mariano:

Interesting, Tommy and Joe B. The last bit of Beatles trivia I learned was that Paul played the guitar solos on "Taxman". I always assumed it was George.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Gaylord Fields:

@Tommy: John Lennon hated, hated his own voice, which marks him as a poor judge of anything Beatles related.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm spodiodi:

great show today, TOPT!
loving it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Tommy in Neversink:

He hated his voice !!! I love his voice. One of my favorite singers

Avatar 4:09pm Woo:

Is this 96 Tears available to the Record Buying Public?
  4:09pm Stevel:

When and where was the 96 tears cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Tommy in Neversink:

Speaking of the Talking Heads I'm (skipping around) reading David Byrne's book "How Music Works" WOW really interesting . I highly recommend it . A lot history ...history of recording formats and how music has conformed to the formats. And just a lot about the psychology as it applies to music
  4:09pm Stevel:

Woo: Also that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Handy Haversack:

CBGB's 1976, stevel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm mariano:

Thanks Steve H. There's some good YT channels too, like "You Can't Unhear This" which focuses on quirks in Beatles songs most people don't notice (eg "The Hidden F-Bomb in 'Hey Jude'"). High addiction potential. www.youtube.com...
  4:10pm flashbazbo:

Paul played the good morning solo
  4:11pm Stevel:

Thanks Handy! I thought it was early
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm mariano:

Ugh. Group of idiots at the little hotel across the street gleefully splashing around in the (rather small) pool. And that's why we'll probably be in lockdown for the rest of the year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Tommy in Neversink:

What Beatles song has the most time changes?
Avatar 4:15pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Tommy in Neversink: "A Day In The Life"?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'We got tired of being Paul's sidemen.' - said John. George getting more & more ticked with being told what to play or not a major faultline in that little unit.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& Handy is your dawg positioned according to international code this week?
Avatar 4:20pm Joe B:

re paul's sidemen - according to geoff emerick, paul worked harder on a lot of john's songs than john did from pepper on (strawberry fields, for example).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Tommy in Neversink:

YES..flashbazbo...Happiness is a Warm Gun
  4:21pm Stevel:

The Big Country is such a sweet an mean song. What a great album closer.
Avatar 4:21pm BEAVO:

Frantz says in the book that Eno wanted to be credited as a member of TH on the albums which sounds odd to me,
  4:22pm josh:

Man on the moon REM vibe
Avatar 4:22pm Joe B:

I had always heard it reversed - that they wanted to make eno a member, and he declined
Avatar 4:22pm Woo:

According to Duncan Hannah's book, Eno was at the mixing board at CBGB once making demos of Television. Does those exist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Handy Haversack:

RevRab, I need to adjust two of the flanges -- thanks for reminding me!
Avatar 4:23pm Joe B:

@ woo - wow, would love to hear that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Paul was a workaholic & John was an art school dropout. Pointed about who worked on whose - yeah. Paul got stuff done & drove them to produce - all good - but they needed s break - so not so good.
4:23pm jim from wood ridge NJ:

Not surprising Beavo.. “kings lead hat” spelled sideways is Talking Heads!
  4:24pm clarke:

stickin' my head in the door to Say Hay. gotta get back to 'work'. will have to archive..
Avatar 4:24pm BEAVO:

Lou Reed tried to sign them to a contract that would have given Reed and his manager a huge chunk of the royalties.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm mariano:

Hey, does anyone else know what the deal is with that beeping sound at the beginning of the first verse of "Holidays in the Sun"? Just looked online and there's nothing there. Been bothering me since the 80s.
Avatar 5:40pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Miles: Bud & Kathy came out as 45 in the mid 60's on Downey records, has been reissued on various LP's, cd's and an EP.

  5:52pm Andy:

Glad you spoke out on the BR situation, Todd. I think you’re making a smart, diplomatic decision regarding continuing to support the Burger acts not involved in the alleged incidents by playing their records.
Avatar 5:53pm Hoboken Jack:

As long as I don't find out that Frank Giannini is interviewing Crockett too, I'll be here bright and early next week!
