The best Bill&Ted movie ever! But yes, hello! I'll take this show on the road as it were, I'll cycle to my swimming spot and back, with this show on my headphones enhancing the journey. I hope it won't start pouring with rain. It is really really cloudy today.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Julie:

I think I thought it was a comma, like Really, Lisa!
Avatar 12:28pm Really. Lisa.:

coela, no. Been feeling more emphatic lately.
Julie, I was asked in another chat about punctiation. It depends on the day. :) Some days it's Really? Lisa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Handy Haversack:

I am arrived! Gah, sorry to be late! Delays were unavoidable.

Hi, Julie! Greetings to all the Umbricly Ensouled!

This tar is me with my Yellow Submarine lunchbox in 1st Grade. It's interesting to see what one says in 2020 represented by one's five y.o. self...
Avatar 12:34pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

<3 French pronunciation is tricky sometimes
  12:35pm Dean:

Lasagna? Pronounced how it looks?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm coelacanth∅:

i would've guessed at least one of those "ts" to be silent
Avatar 12:35pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

we're the coolest!
Avatar 12:38pm Really. Lisa.:

I noticed that lunchbox, Rev Rabbit. Lucky guy! I had a Partridge Family lunchbox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Having French DNA - a special shame in ignorance of the grand language.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy
Avatar 12:39pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Dean the one that cracks me up is how lingerie is pronounced in English, it took me a while to understand
Avatar 12:40pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Rev Rabbit don't be, no language is more special than the other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm coelacanth∅:

i walked home for lunch and never had a lunchbox. when jr.high came it was brown bags.

i have a lunchbox/kitchen decoration now though.
scooby doo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Julie:

heya Marie! Dean! Phillippe!
  12:42pm David in London:

Hey Phillippe.
Avatar 12:42pm Hubig Pie:

Hullo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm coelacanth∅:

how's lingerie pronounced in french?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Handy Haversack:

I love how in French prosody a terminal "e" can be voiced if the meter requires it. I hear that in songs all the time.
  12:43pm Dean:

You say lingerie, I say lasagna. Let's call the whole thing off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Handy Haversack:

Lingerie lasagna. Lasagna lingerie. Either could be a big hit!
  12:44pm Dean:

I'm not always clear when one is supposed to elide the terminal s in a French word when it's followed by a word beginning with a vowel.
Avatar 12:45pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Dean you pronounced it as a z with the following vowel, it's called "la liaison"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Phillippe Bastille:

English must be an easy language to learn. Heck, I learned it as a baby!
  12:46pm Little Mexican Girl:

Why not both?
Avatar 12:46pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

but tbh, we don't do it in everyday language, just from time to time, it doesn't always sound nice on the ear
Avatar 12:46pm Really. Lisa.:

Loving this topic here, about the french language. I've been trying to learn it on my own on and off since 2013 before I went to Paris to run the marathon.
Tried Berlitz briefly, tried certain youtube lessons, a podcast by a Scottish teacher.. called Coffee Break French..
Watch as many French tv programs as I can find.. well, the good ones!
Can't do total immersion, not til I win the lottery $$
  12:47pm elwyn:

i am thinking of buying a pasta machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

I didn't know this had a rap bit in the middle, I suppose I should have!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

mmmm pasta
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm coelacanth∅:

haha Phillippe!
Avatar 12:48pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Really.Lisa. Music and tv is how I first learned most of my English, even though I studied it at school (and college).
  12:50pm Dean:

Thanks, Sylvia. Liaison, right! I was thinking "elision." Different. But do you always do it, e.g., when speaking somebody's name, e.g., Charles Aznavour? sharl-ZAHZZ-na-voor?
Avatar 12:50pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Dean good catch! No we don't, only for plural
  12:52pm elwyn:

more bands need convenient three letter acronyms: OMD, YLT, JEW...
Avatar 12:52pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

in "Charles" it's a silent s in French
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm listener james from westwood:

Oddly, for an '80s teen, I never saw Pretty in Pink. But I've always dug this song and group.
Avatar 12:52pm Really. Lisa.:

@Sylvia, you point out something I omitted, French music for me as well as tv! Been a tremendous help.
Actually, Dean brings up a good one.. what about Francoise Hardy? I've heard her given name pronounced with and without the 's'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I listened to Coffee Break French! & Spanish
...problem is if I stop I feel I have to start all over...
otoh even if I learn a tiny bit ...& it seems to turn out less than you thot... I feel it's good to have.
  12:53pm C in Thailand:

This OMD song would be very good if not for the late 80's era echoey percussion production. What were people thinking back then? It's still a pretty good song but could be much better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Handy Haversack:

The termninal "e" means you voice the "s," as far as I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Julie:

without the S it is Francois which is a boy's name
Avatar 12:53pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Really.Lisa. since it's followed by an e, you say "françoizeuh", then the last name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Stanley:

Back from the stinking office.
And now this....nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Julie:

hiya C and Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, Stanley.

Julie, Kate and Bagpipe are back from their walk, and at least one of them says hi to you!
  12:57pm Dean:

And that completes this morning's lesson at Dark Night de L'École Française.
Avatar 12:57pm Rocky Horror:

Hi Julie!!
Hi Dark Night of the Soul fans!!
  12:57pm C in Thailand:

Hi, Julie. Thank you for sending good music to the SE Asia internets!
Avatar 12:57pm Rocky Horror:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Julie:

hiya Rocky!
Avatar 12:58pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Dean Recess now!
Avatar 12:58pm Really. Lisa.:

Ah! Thank you, Sylvia, and Handy!
@Rev I listened to all of the *free lessons offered on Coffee Break French. I found that listening to season 1 e.g., 2-3 years after original airing, made some idioms outdated.
Coffee break series briefly did '1 minute' episodes of less typically available language lessons. Coffee break Flemish was one. I learned to count to 10, introduce myself, polite niceties, and then they stopped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Handy: Bagpipe is thuh dawgie ? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm listener james from westwood:

  1:09pm Dean:

Steely Dan-ny, as in "Do It Again," which appeared two years later, but also War-ry, as in "Low Rider," which appeared five years later.
Avatar 1:11pm Hubig Pie:

Steely Dan-ny = Yacht rock vibe ?
Avatar 1:11pm Really. Lisa.:

Yes, Dean! Good call on the War; it was War-ry-er than I realized.

Jerry/Gary isn't that the guy on Parks & Rec?

  1:56pm David in London:

Sim, we were talking, about the space between ourselves... It’ll be a classic, believe me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Julie:

Hrududu and rabbit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm sim:

Watership Down reference!!!! <3 <3 <3
  1:59pm elwyn:

goodnight everyone!
Avatar 2:00pm βrian:

Yes, when rabbits do it in the road, they need to keep an eye out for hrududus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm sim:

g'night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Julie:

night Elwyn thanks for stopping in!
Avatar 2:00pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

bonne nuit @elwyn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Julie:

I'm not sure I ever read that.. I remember hearing about it a LOT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm doctorjazz:

Quick hi, been lurking, listening and enjoying, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm sim:

yes, listening is a treat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Julie:

heya dr jazz!
Avatar 2:03pm Hubig Pie:

Watership Down - a forced read in '70s high school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm brainiac:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Sorry to go off topic, but I must compliment your extraordinary avatar. It's spectacular. Wait, Watership Down is about rabbits, so no apology needed!

Also, hi everybody. I'm distracted today, how are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

en.m.wikipedia.org...

She got all Marc Bolan for a second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm sim:

@Julie, Hubig Pie. Watership Down is a wonderful story. Simply love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Phillippe Bastille:

Watership Down would be a great title for a Tom Clancy novel about a disabled submarine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Julie:

I always went for Sci-fi over fantasy books. Never read Tolkien either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, brainiac.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm brainiac:

Hi Handy.
Avatar 2:05pm βrian:

Fiver knew Trump would be elected, but nobody listened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@braniac: Got cooped up for some reason & kept myself amused best I could. Then the laptop died...but I have your compliment as compensation.
Avatar 2:06pm Hubig Pie:

I'm sure it's a good story, sim. I was a grumpy teen back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Doug Schulkind:

On my show, you're likely to hear "White Poppy" by Dizzy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm with you, Julie. Fantasy lit never really floated my boat (to keep that Watership Down theme going on...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Julie:

Brainiac and Hubig Hi to you both! Heya Doug, yeah, that sounds likely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm sim:

Watership Down is very naturalistic for a fantasy. One of the best depictions of the hill country of the English countryside. And you actually come to care about the plight about the rabbits and their lives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Andrew Waterloo:

rabbits are cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm brainiac:

I always thought rabbits lived in warrens not submarines.

Hi Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Julie:

did you think you'd escape without Genesis, no you won't
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm sim:

I'm down with Genesis
  2:10pm David in London:

Chris, we’ve got to have Bright Eyes now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Warren actually my 2nd choice. Fiver - ah - what can one say...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Julie:

I feel like Dean mentioned another Gabriel band but I couldn't find anything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Phillippe Bastille:

We had a cute little bunny in the yard this morning, but we did not speak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Julie:

rabbits are getting sick right now..keep hearing about it from my vet's site
  2:11pm Dean:

Dang, I can't listen. On a webinar. I mentioned Charlie Drake, whom Gabriel helped with a one-off single, "You Never Know."
Avatar 2:11pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

ok I keep getting confused with that, so I'm gonna ask: is this the same Genesis as the band with Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm brainiac:

That was a spectacular segue, Julie.
  2:11pm Dean:

Yes, it is. The image on the playlist is a young Peter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Julie:

Yes Sylvia. Phil took over vocals when Peter left. Although Phil is not on the earliest ones I don't think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Phillippe Bastille:

Oooh, Ex Hex!!! Thank you Julie!
  2:13pm Dean:

That is correct. Original drummer was...thinking here...John Silver?
Avatar 2:13pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Julie thank you! They sounded quite different back then!
I also got confused when the artist Genesis recently passed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Michael 98145:

Kinks!
  2:16pm David in London:

Go Home Productions need to get cracking on a Genesis / TG mash up.

  2:24pm Dean:

Drummer on second album, Trespass, was John Mayhew. Silver was on FGTR. Collins joined for third album.
Avatar 2:25pm βrian:

Which one is the poundy drummer? Poundy, poundy, poundy!
  2:26pm Dean:

Collins certainly can be poundy, but he also ranges across a spectrum. See Brand X.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Julie:

oh yes I keep meaning to check out Brand X
Avatar 2:27pm Rocky Horror:

The touring version of Genesis has 2 drummers which Phil Collins is one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Selling England by the Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncey
  2:28pm Dean:

Only time I ever heard Bill Bruford live was accompanying Collins in Genesis.
Avatar 2:28pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Why does The Dream photo remind me of Spinal Tap? In the eye of the beholder....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Michael 98145:

it's the guy top left he looks like he's in spinal tap

Avatar 2:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Speaking of Genesis, I have been on a Phil Collins-led 70s Genesis trip lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Julie:

ChaCha Wind & Wuthering is fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm sim:

Good advertising for the station, hehehe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Julie:

hi Guido! That's awesome!
  2:37pm David in London:

Elton is best seen in a gorilla suit hassling The Stooges. Ridiculous, but true.
  2:38pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Julie!
  2:38pm Funky16Corners:

I love the arrangement on this song.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Julie:

we'll soon have another soft g or hard g question
  2:44pm Dean:

EP called Spot the Pigeon, 12", colored vinyl... That was the thing back then. First line: "Who put fifty tons of shit on the Foreign Office roof?"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Handy Haversack:
