  3:05pm Ian 'Lankey' Pinkston:

Any Angry Anderson?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Funky16Corners:

The majority of the show is focused on the 60s, but there are some later things (like this)
Avatar 3:05pm Erica:

The sound quality got low.
  3:06pm Ian 'Lankey' Pinkston:

sound fine here
Avatar 3:06pm Jeff Ash:

Digging into the Vanda-Young canon early! Just what I needed on this work day. Greetings from Wisconsin!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Funky16Corners:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Candy-O'67:

Tuning in, Larry! Hi, everyone! Love the rock from down under!
Avatar 3:14pm Erica:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

Actually, Erica...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm doctorjazz:

OK, I'm here, the party can start!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

This is as thick-headed and neanderthal and any American garage 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

And that's a good thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Michael 98145:

it's always tomorrow in AUS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Funky16Corners:

Really! Good morning Australia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Mike Sin:

Considering how big Australia is, what was the population in the mid '60s? 10 million folks? I wonder what the average sales of a #1 single were there in, say, 1966?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Funky16Corners:

Good question!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Funky16Corners:

I want to know how they heard this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

These are the guys in the picture at the top of the playlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Michael 98145:

enjoying this
Avatar 3:34pm Little Danny:

Love this Missing Links track. Ugly Things classic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

yeah, absolutely brutal for 1965
Avatar 3:35pm Brian in UK:

The Navy/merchant ships was always a good source of music, Liverpool being a good example of how records travelled.
Avatar 3:35pm Erica:

It's funny how Aussie band names are more complex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I assume they got the British brodcasting in Australia, like they did in Canada
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - You think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Candy-O'67:

I tell you what. The Aussie's have always known how to rock! Some of my all-time favorite bands are from there :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band and Strawberry Alarm Clock were all American
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Mike Sin:

The song publishing companies really worked the markets back in those days because of the high stakes... I love how "She Does Everything For Me" and "You're Gonna Miss Me" were given to Australian artists to break in that region.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Funky16Corners:

@Candy-O - You ain't kidding!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Candy-O'67:

Wow, Mike!
Avatar 3:39pm Erica:

In my opinion anyway Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Funky16Corners:

@Mike - Isn't there an Aussie 45 of You're Gonna Miss Me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Candy-O'67:

Who did the Aussie You're Gonna Miss Me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Mike Sin:

@Candy -- Tom Thumb
Avatar 3:41pm Little Danny:

These Aussie beat 45s seem to fall somewhere between the impeccable UK beat production style and the scrappiness of local U.S. garage bands. In least in terms of their production and grit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Candy-O'67:

Ah! I'll have to check that out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

Lynne Randell, girlfriend of Davy Jones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - Agreed, Lots of attitude but polish as well
Avatar 3:42pm Little Danny:

I had no idea she was Australian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Candy-O'67:

Cool info, Larry, about Lynne
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm listener Rey:

G'Day everyone! Aussie Monkkes riff in that hoe down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Rey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - Born in Liverpool, grew up in Australia from the age of 5
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm listener Rey:

Crikey! that shoulda said Monkees
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Mike Sin:

@Candy -- I need to correct myself. Tom Thumb was from New Zealand not Australia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Funky16Corners:

@MIke - What was the comp with the Tom Thumbs on it? I can picture the cover but can't remember the name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm doctorjazz:

Even my old manlooks...good!
Classic lyric!
Avatar 3:46pm Jeff Ash:

Local radio station in Madison, Wisconsin, used to play this song early every Friday afternoon to get the weekend started. So for me to hear it on any other day than Friday is weird.
Avatar 3:47pm Brian in UK:

Were the Easybeats recorded in the UK, kind of sounds like it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Funky16Corners:

Wild Things!
Avatar 3:47pm Erica:

I read that this song introduced the Beat sound to Australia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Mike Sin:

@Funky - "Wild Things!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - That seems likely, it was produced by Shel Talmy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Friday on My Mind? The beat sound was going on in Australia way back before that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Funky16Corners:

It might have introduced Australian beat to the USA
Avatar 3:50pm Erica:

Hey don't take my word for it Larry.
  3:51pm Mark R.:

This Wild Cherries guy sounds like 1 part Tom Jones, 1 part David Clayton Thomas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Candy-O'67:

@Mike-- Thanks! Easy mistake to make ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Mike Sin:

I love this "croony" guy from the Wild Cherries... A bit more of a heartbroken "Sean Bonniwell" lilt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Mark - The guitarist in this band, Lobby Lloyd is a legend in Australia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Mike - Yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

Everybody prepare to psych out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Guido from Cologne:

"The Real Thing Pts 1&2" is total madness.
Can you play anything after that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Funky16Corners:

This actually got released here in the US!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Candy-O'67:

I'm ready, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Guido! I have a couple of things up my sleeve
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Mike Sin:

I came for the cool records, but I stuck around for the psilocybin.
Avatar 3:55pm Brian in UK:

Guessing that it was similar in Aussie to the UK when the R'nB/Beat groups almost over night grew hair and found phasing/flanging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Funky16Corners:

Well, this one is pretty late in the game (1969), but the trends there followed everywhere else, beat, garage, psych, hard rock etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Funky16Corners:

There's a fantastic live version of this recorded a few years back at a festival in Australia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Guido from Cologne:

Consider there were no effect devices for that at the time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Funky16Corners:

Byron Bay Blues Festival 2013
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Funky16Corners:

It's on Youtube
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Mike Sin:

One thing that took Australia a while to get was color TV. Whenever I see clips from even the early '70s, I always end up thinking they're older because it's all in B&W until 1972 or such.
Avatar 3:59pm Brian in UK:

Just chuck it in the blender.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Candy-O'67:

Hey, Larry, you gonna play any Stems?
Avatar 4:01pm Erica:

Australia was always behind in TV Mike. The didn't switch to digital transmission until 2013 I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Mike Sin:

"Legs Diamond" Peter Allen?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

The very same!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Mike Sin:

Ha! "The Boy from Oz", right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

Yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Funky16Corners:

The album is pretty cool. That track is the only psych-ey thing on it but lots if sunshine pop-type stuff
Avatar 4:04pm Erica:

I have a CD reissue of BiCoastal. A must for Yacht Rock and Peter Allen fans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Mike Sin:

All right, Zoot! Featuring "the sexiest man alive".. a few years later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Funky16Corners:

Yes, under his real name, Rick Springthorpe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Candy-O'67:

Zoot and their pink outfits! Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Michael 98145:

"The common yabby is an Australian freshwater crustacean" ... ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Funky16Corners:

Hmmmm, chrome plated crab, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Michael 98145:

spacey. this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Funky16Corners:

Billy Thorpe was one of the big stars of Australia's first beat boom, 1964-ish. Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, featured a young Vince Melouney (Later of the Bee Gees)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Funky16Corners:

Imagine a stoned teenager, 1979-ish with this blasting on really big speakers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Funky16Corners:

With a groovy Mouse & Kelley cover, too: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Michael 98145:

whoa. cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Michael 98145:

Krome Plated Angels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Funky16Corners:

If you were witness to the early days of MTV this video was on A LOT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Mike Sin:

And the video is just various clips of fun in the sun in Santa Monica, of all places, right?
Avatar 4:24pm Jeff Ash:

True dat. A vaguely CSNY sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Funky16Corners:

Yes indeed! Originally released in 1979, recharted in 1981
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - Definitely, but I can't recall what the rest of the record sounds like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Mike Sin:

This is indeed the greatest Men at Work track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Funky16Corners:

I recently watched a great documentary about Colin Hay and remembered how much I liked this song
Avatar 4:27pm Erica:

Woo! Thanks for Men at Work Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Funky16Corners:

You're welcome!
Avatar 4:28pm Jeff Ash:

People still love Men at Work. The Colin Hay parts of the Ringo Starr and His All-Star Band got the biggest reception of all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Funky16Corners:

Strap yourselves in for a string of absolute ANTHEMS after this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Candy-O'67:

Ok, Larry! Please play some Stems!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - An underrated band that got way too popular way too fast. That part of the story was sad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Funky16Corners:

@Candy-O - I will!
Avatar 4:30pm Jeff Ash:

Colin Hay solo is tremendous, too. Men at Work fans should check out his Man @ Work record, which has a bunch of acoustic reworkings of those great Men At Work songs.
  4:30pm wendy del formaggio:

I loved this Men at Work song when it came out — and it looks like I still do. I had the album on cassette tape and would play it over and over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Funky16Corners:

Get ready for the chorus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Candy-O'67:

Yay! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Funky16Corners:

GOD, I LOVE THIS RECORD!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm dave wuz here:

i saw the hoodoo gurus on this album's tour - i had the fakest i.d. you ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Funky16Corners:

I saw them at Maxwells but a few years later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Candy-O'67:

Haha, that's funny, dave wuz here. I had a bad fake I.D. back in the day, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Mike Sin:

I don't think I saw the Hoodoo Gurus until the following LP was released... at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ of all places.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Candy-O'67:

Poor kids today, I don't think they can even get away with fake I.D.'s anymore!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Candy-O'67:

Yay, Larry! Thanks! This is a good one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Funky16Corners:

I remember buying the Stems 45s when they came out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Candy-O'67:

Wow, so cool! I only learned of them in the last 12 years or so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Candy-O'67:

I love all of Dom Mariani's bands!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Funky16Corners:

Oh yeah, Ron Rimsite at Venus Records on 8th St in NYC turned a bunch of us on to the Stems
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Candy-O'67:

He was a smart dude ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Funky16Corners:

He was, indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Candy-O'67:

I've seen DM3 here in Austin at SXSW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Funky16Corners:

Mike Sin, you still out there? Mike knew Ron, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Candy-O'67:

Probably about 8 or 9 years ago now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Funky16Corners:

I'll have to play some more Stems in the future
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Candy-O'67:

Please do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Mike Sin:

Ron was a very generous maniac with his time and knowledge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Candy-O'67:

He's got a new band Datura4
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Candy-O'67:

Dare I say it (too mainstream) INXS? I did love them back then ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Funky16Corners:

These guys actually played at the Green Parrot in Neptune, NJ on their (only, I think) American tour. They kicked ass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Funky16Corners:

No INXS this time but not out of the question in the future
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Candy-O'67:

I bet that was a good show, Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Funky16Corners:

It was awesome. Tiny bar that a lot of great alternative bands played at because we had a commercial alternative station in the area
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Candy-O'67:

Cool! I actually saw them right before they hit it big back in Houston at a small club called Cardi's. I had a few girls I hung out with that were kind of groupies and we followed their tour bus to way west side of town where they were staying and sat at the bar and their roadies ended up talking to us and inviting us up to someone's room to party with the band! It was a blast! I was 16! One of my girlfriends traded T-shirts with Michael Hutchence! I'll never forget that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Mike Sin:

Dare I say, the only time I saw Midnight Oil was when they played in front of the Exxon headquarters in NYC after the Alaskan oil spill. The did a cover of "Instant Karma"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Funky16Corners:

Very cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Candy-O'67:

I really loved Blue Sky Mine - I'd say my favorite Midnight Oil song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Funky16Corners:

@Mike - I remember that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Funky16Corners:

Featuring member of the Australian Parliament, Peter Garrett!
Avatar 4:44pm Erica:

I only know Beds Are Burning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

They were a good band. I had a few of their albums and liked them both. Big on MTV at the time, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Michael 98145:

All these sounds really bring back memories, don't they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Candy-O'67:

Sure does, Michael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Funky16Corners:

They do. I love this album so much.
Avatar 4:49pm Brian in UK:

Is Neil Finn in Fleetwood Mac now, or did I dream that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Funky16Corners:

I think he was for a while, one of the Lindsey Buckingham replacements
Avatar 4:51pm Brian in UK:
