I started watching the Irishman last night. I'm enjoying it but underwhelmed by the soundtrack. Good 50s and 60s cuts but there''s been a few anachronistic blues rock duds.

ami ad, they do -- at least on some circling descents. I have actually seen my dog from the plane coming back once! In the early days of the pandemic (before we apparently defeated all viruses and went back to normal life?), when a plane came over it was huge news!

We also get the seaplanes landing on the East River overhead a lot.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Handy Haversack:

Kate and were driving around listening to this (and the other Exbats album -- and Juniper for that matter!) and wondering if Inez uses any backup singers live. Do you know, Joe B?
  1:40pm ww:

On Sat, Mike said "I failed as a parent" after Juniper confessed that she liked a Journey song. My favorite part of the show. I failed too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Mike Sin:

The shore itself has been great, folks are cool on the sand with keeping distance there and in the water. My wife got a surfboard this year, so we've headed down there at 7am, and it's been great. Like you, the risk/reward for sit-down dining just isn't there for me yet... basically Playa bowls and package good on a blanket!
Avatar 1:42pm Joe B:

if she said i like led zeppelin he would have failed as a parent

  1:49pm ww:

i just had this picture of Dad sitting there, at the mike, head in hands, just shaking back and forth. But she's a rock'n'roll star and is still willing to be seen/heard in public with her old man. That's sumthin'...
Avatar 1:50pm Woo:

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I wish Drive It On would go on for hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Perhaps as a Singer Juniper appreciates Steve Perry technically as I think Hendrix reportedly really liked Chicago - for I imagine the big band implications for himself
...I has rationalizings...
  1:50pm scott:

Dollar bills, man it just seems that they were always difficult to obtain, maybe '75 in particular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Bootsie:

@Woo, OK you cleared that up for me. LOVE this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Handy Haversack:

75DB now, Bootsie.

Mike Sin, a friend of mine from here in NYC reported feeling totally crowded and unsafe on the beach down the shore. Maybe just different beaches have different mindsets? They actually retreated to NYC rather than deal with the crowds and closeness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Bootsie:

@HH thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Rob W:

Thanks for the Jersey Shore social distancing beach report Joe and Mike! Katie and I can report that Brighton Beach, Brooklyn is a bit of a mixed bag. We are fairly easily able to follow social distancing rules ourselves. Even at busy times the beach is un-crowded enough that there is room to set up a blanket many feet away from the next person. But not everyone is living up to their social responsibilities, I would say, so it can get annoying (if arguably not really unsafe) close to and in the water when it gets crowded. Our solution is to get there very early (like 8 am!). And weekday early mornings are fabulous. We have not sat down to dine - but one thing about Brighton Beach: Amazing take-out options from all over the former USSR and Poland (and Pakistan and Mexico too if you go a couple more blocks inland!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@scott Yes. I think there were some terms he threw around I was uncomfortable with. I got the impression he had had some unsavoury experiences with industry people, apart from just the contract type stuff.

Sh*t I discovered The Who by myself with their 1st album for $1.98 or something... The $1.98 bin - a Thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm efd:

One of my parents had the "Live" single when I was a kid, so I've known it for ages. The Bangles cover was a real calling card, I thought. Never went that deep on the Merry-Go-Round or his solo stuff, though, nice tribute Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm VincentNifigance:

@AndyFuchs thanks so much, all I could find for years was a Spanish trailer! Will track that down.

  2:30pm Frank Zaatar:

I remember hearing and loving Face on the Floor when it came out. Not surprisingly (and ignorantly), I figured he was an English artist on Apple. I also scored a copy of the first LP after decades of bin-diving .
  2:32pm Dungaroos Kipawah:

Wow! I love this Sergeant X Comrade
Avatar 2:33pm Joe B:

@efd - wow, you are lucky. my parents had pirates of penzance

Always good to hear from/about Iggy. www.theguardian.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Blah Blah Blah was the first Iggy I ever owned. I had it on tape. I should revisit it. Hearing Family Affair made me wonder what an Nile Rodgers produced Iggy album would have sounded like.
  2:43pm Tim In SF:

@Joe B...yeah Pirates is funny. Even funnier is when I enlarged your avatar...Don Knotts. Never noticed it before...too small, both the avatar and my eye balls.

Max Bennett suggested Fever to Miss Brenda Lee.
A lot like Joe Osborn suggested Travelin Man to Rick Nelson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Handy Haversack:

It feels useful that I now know how to say "I have a fever" in German.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Bootsie:

WOW. You are killing it today with these out of the world covers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Forget about covid, I think Joe's got a serious case of funk!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm mariano:

Oh, it is Don Knotts, hah! Or, what Mick Jagger would've looked like if he'd been a small-town Southern sheriff's deputy. cheezburger.com...
  2:48pm John L:

Playing a lot of stuff that makes me wish I still had a record store. Nothing I liked better than turning people on to new stuff. I just looked up Emitt Rhodes and Merry Go Round stuff, on LP and CD, and the online prices are pretty high. Looks like most of his stuff is OOP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Thx for playing Emmit Rhodes! RIP!

Awesome. Thanks, Joe!

The Knotts picture is from the Disney film "Gus"? I know it mainly from its reference in the Bob Crane biopic "Auto Focus".

The “Like a Rolling Stone” parody mag made a great Mick/Knotts connection, I’ve never been ae to look at Mick the same since—esp when he’s tricked out Mr. Furley-style in the SOME GIRLS era w Jiffypop cap and duct taped Hefty bag pantaloons. Looks like he’s ready to mingle at the Regal Beagle
Avatar 2:54pm Joe B:

thanks everyone, and thanks Olivia and Michele for minding the store!
