  9:17pm CC:

Also interested in a chupacabra rockumentary.

That is a bad-ass typeface on your playlist pic of the car radio DJ Marty Mcsorley
Avatar 9:19pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey hey fellas! I saw Ashwin Batish jamming with his dad in their restaurant in Santa Cruz in 1976. They had the hippie girls going nuts!
  9:19pm Carmichael:

Hoping for some death metal tonight, Marty.
  9:19pm BH:

Avatar 9:22pm slugluv1313:

was just thinking about him the other day :)
saw him when he played Maxwell's back when "Sitar Power" was released (which i still have -- on cassette!)
wished i could have made it to his family's restaurant (in Santa Cruz?) when it was still open (i think there was a cookbook too!)
Avatar 9:22pm slugluv1313:

omg Franco that is sooooo freakin' cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

i MUST see that Walter Mercado documentary!
(i have this warped curiosity to watch the "Cats" film too -- just to see how awful it is!)
  9:24pm Carmichael:

RevRab, you of all people should invest in a little Walter Mercado. Total astrology freak.
  9:24pm BH:

somewhere there's a version of Cats before they edited out all of the buttholes
  9:25pm Carmichael:

@slugluv, saw it on Netflix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Right ?! & reviews are good.

Avatar 9:26pm slugluv1313:

@ BH -- haha! that was the ONLY reason the felines here were interested
  9:27pm CC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm chresti:

We need more Soothsayers on TV.
  9:27pm Tim In SF:

@BH...does that explain your initials?
Avatar 9:27pm Franco Twinkie:

Yeah,I was riding my bike back to the dirty hippie house where I was staying, and I heard this amazing racket pouring out into the street so I stopped and just sat on my bike with my mouth hanging open watching them burn the place to the ground.
  9:27pm Carmichael:

Heya Tim.
  9:28pm oster toe:

I saw that uncut version compilation of Cats butthole effects. Don't know what all the stink was about. Pretty creepy both ways.
  9:29pm lou in CO:

CC indeed ... praying the pandemic puts a dent in my landlord's rent hike next month... but not holding my breath
Avatar 9:29pm slugluv1313:

@ Tim in SF -- nah, that is my (now dear departed) Chubby "Little" BRADY -- he loved WFMU, but as with the other cats, did NOT understand my questionable taste in film
  9:29pm Tim In SF:

@Carmichael: good to see you. I think the last time I was on here you pissed off the dj toward the end of the show, but you did get the last word in on the board.
  9:30pm lou in CO:

I too saw the butthole cut of Cats in theaters... the buttholes were the least of their problems
Avatar 9:30pm slugluv1313:

@ Franco -- *jealous*! in 1976, i was a junior in boring suburban NJ high school
  9:31pm CC:

Remember Lou... it's the economy versus death and landlords are always on the side of the economy!!!
  9:31pm Tim In SF:

@sluggluv1313: Chubby Brady looks like he had good taste in music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Handy Haversack:

In 1976 I was two.
Avatar 9:32pm slugluv1313:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Where were Shjips when I was a kid getting stoned? I'd've worshipped them...
  9:39pm Carmichael:

Yep, chresti, me too.

@tim, I got jumped for no reason. I told Little Danny about it. He said that Pseu scares him. Nuff said.
Avatar 9:40pm Franco Twinkie:

In !969 I was in junior high school where I first heard the diss Franco Twinkie used to belittle some fool that was going to get his ass whupped.
  9:41pm Carmichael:

Thanks for going old school Irish on my ass, Marty.
  9:41pm Tim In SF:

I saw the ships in 1976. My parents took me to see the Big Ships in the NY port on Bicentennial Day

Buying weed legally is supremely civilized- zero noticeable effect to my community- loved walking out weed in hand and having a groovy chat with a couple of da fuzz - the small victories need be appreciated
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Handy Haversack:

Carm, Thin Lizzie was artist of the week on Wake last week. So great to hear some deeper cuts.
  9:42pm Carmichael:

And yes, that’s Eric Bell on guitar.
  9:42pm oster toe:

Carmichael the first WFMU show I ever listened to was Pseu, years ago. She politely smacked me down about my comment on her board. Confused me if not scared me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Brian in New Orleans:

what a fascinating deep cut
Avatar 9:43pm TDK60:

Thin Lizzy rehearsed!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm mariano:

It just wouldn't feel like Saturday night without a few words from Franco. And considering that my great-grandfather was almost executed by the Spanish fascists it takes a lot for me to write "¡Franco!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm chresti:

Yes, Handy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm chresti:

Wow mariano.
  9:59pm CC:

KHJ was ok... they didn't have the same social slant KRLA???...too commercial.. but of course I do love the Beatles!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm spodiodi:

aloha, Marty!
hey everyone!
  10:00pm Tim In SF:

@spodiodi: what's goin' on?
  10:00pm Carmichael:

Yep Handy, XERB mutated into XPRS. The Wolfman was the MAN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm mariano:

Yeah, really dramatic story, chresti. The only thing that saved him was that he'd become an American citizen (he'd returned to Spain to fight in the Civil War), so the family was able to get him out. Then they all got exiled to France, and it all coincidentally cost the exact same amount as they had in life savings, down to the penny.
Avatar 10:00pm slugluv1313:

yikes, mariano!
i remember the SNL jokes -- "General Francisco Franco is still dead" etc. but damn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm spodiodi:

enjoying that sunset, Tim B-) you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm mariano:

Yeah slugluv, the guy (also named Mariano) had a really cinematic life, the near-execution is one of several adventures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Handy Haversack:

This is Kate writing for Handy...I was like, "where's Franco at?" I love your messages, Franco...thank you!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Handy Haversack:

Also, to answer your question from 5:35, spod, the river was good. NYC is excellent from human-level on the water. And there was a breeze.

Also: hi, spod!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I could do with some Mahogany Rush of all things...
  10:07pm Tim In SF:

@spodiodi: yeah, sunsets and dinner. Two of my favorites. all's good, except my Sonos keeps going out. I'm missing some good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Handy Haversack:

Dang, Mariano, what a coincidence.

spod, the new heavily subsidized ferry service is back to full schedules (which mainly exists for tourists, but, again, heavily subsidized). So the getting around, esp. to the west, can be a little fraught in a canoe. But worth it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm spodiodi:

Handy, do you own a canoe or rent or borrow one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm chresti:

Normally we'd be going to 'Frisco, end of July- early August.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

That was lofi badass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Handy Haversack:

Spod, a and c. I am a trip leader in a community boating organization that tries to enable access to the water for people who don't think the waters belong to them. I also got an amazing deal on a canoe last year and so am able to store it with the org. since I use it for org. business. But we do have a fleet. It sucks this season not doing any of our public programming, which normally is the whole. damn. point.

But it is nice to be able to get out there still.
  10:14pm db:

Thank you for all you do, Marty! My Saturdays are always great! <3 from Davenport, IA!

Republicans know demographics are against them - there's more of us - & they can't win a fair election. John Lewis was not perfect - but he literally got his skull fractured for the right to vote. They probably got his picture wrong on purpose to dogwhistle. Pigs.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm mariano:

Tim: oh that's right, Alamo Sq. Actually the place I lived on Treat was the biggest dump I have ever lived in lol. I was one of several guys renting a room there, super cheap. This was in '95, and that area definitely hadn't gentrified yet. The house was complete wreck: old shag carpet so dirty it felt like plastic when you walked on it, a Withnail & I kitchen, hard to exaggerate.
