Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm dutchtheo:

Hello Larry and all, let's see how much doors i can handle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...on Iggy, Alice, Bowie - I'd venture Ozzy! Though I've never heard it...in case they mattered to anyone...
Love, Bunnymen, Cope, Mazzy on & on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Funky16Corners:

Theo! Candy-O!
Avatar 3:10pm Erica:

I'm tuning in.
Avatar 3:11pm Erica:

I had to take care of some things before chatting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Erica!
Avatar 3:17pm Erica:

The Doors in my opinion were more dark psychedelic rock than jazz or pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm coelacanth∅:

hey Larry and all
Avatar 3:18pm Erica:

Not counting their later stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

Hey C!
Avatar 3:22pm Little Danny:

Hey Larry 'n' all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I don't count ANY of that later, Morrison-less stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& who influenced them? Jazz, Zombies, Stones, Them...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

Zombies, Coltrane, Stones, Brecht-Weill, Sinatra and on and on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

Robbie Krieger was an acoustic guitarist until shortly before the band came together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm CHUCK ROAST:

Saw them in "67 at a dance. Annapolis national guard armory.
Avatar 3:24pm Little Danny:

I'm one of the few music people I know who doesn't have a strong opinion on the Doors. I like them, and I like some of their songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Chuck! Really?! What was it like?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jim opened Crooning to my mind - & as a gittardiddler who doesn't use a pick Kreiger is a brother...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Yvang:

Their first LP sounds so good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - I had a regular listener e-mail me this morning saying that were going to have to recuse themselves fro this episode because of their feelings about the band. I knew that was going to happen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Funky16Corners:

@Yvang - That first LP is still as exciting as hell. Just brilliantly written, performed. produced all the way around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm coelacanth∅:

i have strong opinions about the doors but i don't love or hate the band in general.
i really love a lot of it and pretty much hate some of it.
Avatar 3:26pm Little Danny:

Haha, I believe it, Larry. They're very divisive, it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I also ended up in SoCal for a while - so there's that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm CHUCK ROAST:

Dress code. Girls in skirts or dresses, guys, jackets and ties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - I think a lot of is is generational. Whether you heard them the first time, were exposed to the wave following No One Here Gets Out Alive, saw The Doors movie or even later. There are a wide variety of reactions to Morrison and to Doors fandom as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Yvang:

I believe the Doors were badly hurt by the Oliver Stone's biopic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I can't stand it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Yvang:

which I found really bad
  3:29pm Leslie:

I once had all the Doors albums, with the exception of the Lizard King, bur due to life circumstances, had to sell them. All were original, and one of my deepest regrets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm coelacanth∅:

the whole firat album is good and some of it straight up brilliant.
same with their last album. (la woman)
everything in-between is patchy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Leslie!
Avatar 3:30pm Little Danny:

@Larry: most definitely. I shoulda added that most people born after 1990 or so probably don't have much of an opinion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm coelacanth∅:

...actually strange days is all good; just a little weaker than the first.
horse latitudes is one of my favorite songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm CHUCK ROAST:

Movie not so good, Kilmer brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - They were pushed back into pop culture so many times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Apocalypse Now really resurrected them with the populace is how I remember it. Which was fitting enuff I think... I happened to be someone who listened to Albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Funky16Corners:

I think that people started to feel (righteously) that they were being force fed the legend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Classic Rawk format. Corporate Radio playlists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Funky16Corners:

Yes, but even then they were only getting the most obvious stuff
Avatar 3:33pm Little Danny:

I heard (and really dug) "The End" long before I saw Apocalypse Now. But the movie instantly and indelibly shaped my experience of that song. It all worked out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

Apocalypse Now is till one of my fave movies of the 70s, and Coppola really made good use of the song
Avatar 3:34pm still b/p:

Stone's attempts to capture head trips felt pretty conventional and unaffecting. And like many biopics, it became a cycle of main figure behaving badly, then a little more stuff, then main figure behaving worse...on and on. Maybe not inaccurate, but not too interesting.
  3:34pm Leslie:

The Door's first album was my 2nd lp, bought for me by my dad. I still love the Doors, the movie sucked as did Kilmer. I used one of their songs for an English paper in 9th grade, about desolation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

I saw it twice in the theater when it first came out
Avatar 3:35pm Little Danny:

"Indian Summer" I think remains my single favorite Doors song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well Corporate Radio - exactly - the obvious stuff. A taste killer & a culture divider & ghetto-izer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

i never paid much attention to "the legend". and never watched apocalypse now or any other movie with the doors in it.
Avatar 3:36pm Erica:

Never had a Doors lp but I've seen one at a yard sale. Didn't buy it though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Funky16Corners:

I sued to love Oliver Stone. I presently regard him as a jackass.
Avatar 3:36pm Little Danny:

Don't mean to jump all over your show with my dumb opinions, Larry. I'm really digging everything you've played thusfar!
  3:36pm Leslie:

I saw it in an airplane going over the Atlantic on the way to Spain (honeymoon).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

Danny, go right ahead! I didn't perceive it as jumping at all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

@Leslie - Which movie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Rawk Stars are such singular & charismatic Personas that Drama is gonna be 2nd best.
Give me a good Documentary & hope for the best. I like 'When You're Strange' well enough.
  3:39pm Leslie:

The one with Kilmer - never watched Apocalypse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Funky16Corners:

I think - now that Manzarek is gone - someone should mount an attempt on a Morrison doc. It could use some reflection and sober (no pun intended) commentary. None of that shaman shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

But for the direct experience of the doors Live - which is something the studio work is not - it's 'The Doors Are Open'.
Avatar 3:41pm Sem:

Glad I got here before the music was over.
Hiya, Larry the G, and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Funky16Corners:

@Leslie - I would suggest - if you ever do watch Apocalypse Now - you avoid the "director's cut", which fouls up a perfectly wonderful movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Sem!
  3:42pm Leslie:

I don't know, or care about shaman crap, as a female young teen, he was sexy and I loved the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Compare it in most of these ways to what The Who mean to different people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Funky16Corners:

@Leslie - That's really the bottom line. He was a great performer, and visual icon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think you have to credit the Writing & Singing as well - & that's just Jim.
Avatar 3:46pm WR:

I have no idea about rest of world perception about Morrison & the Doors. Many in my peer group, including me loved the first 3 albums. Some mixed reception on Soft Parade and not sure what to think about Morrison Hotel. In late fall of '70 several of my friends were going to see them. I, the only one who had not seen them before, showed up and didn't have a ticket and no money, so I declined to take a loan and see if I could get a ticket at the door. I opted instead to wait at their apartment watching a huge jack 'o lantern melt. Though it turned out to be one of the last shows with Morrison, I sorta think it was best to not see only the end.
Avatar 3:47pm Brian in UK:

Hello Larry,
Hello father, yes son, I want to tickle you. Tee Hee.
Waiting for the Sun was a great demo album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Patti Smith - another effected by Jim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm dutchtheo:

hey Brian, happy birthday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm coelacanth∅:

WR that''s kind of a bummer! i've had a few similar experiences.
Avatar 3:49pm Erica:

The End was also used in the Simpsons. Break on Through (To the Other Side) is also overplayed Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Remember their 1st was out before there was even a Sgt. Pepper.
Avatar 3:50pm Brian in UK:

The Doors, Elektra's first No.1.

dutchtheo, man, you are on the ball. Raising a glass of eau de vie to you, my friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm coelacanth∅:

to be honest the best part of light my fire is the instrumental 2nd 1/2. i always thought that but grew to still love that part of the song, and barely tolerate the verses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm dutchtheo:

cheers, i have a cup of tea,... for now
Avatar 3:52pm Brian in UK:

I am the lizard king
I eat at burger king.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm coelacanth∅:

Brian, more like waiting for the sun was a great 2/3 of a demo album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Funky16Corners:

@Rev - I remember Patti Smith writing about Morrison in Creem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Another one I didn't play!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm coelacanth∅:

i'm so glad i don't watch all this crap so the end i still regard very highly.
Avatar 3:54pm Brian in UK:

coel, yes so where is my copy? Lost in a move.

Larry, this is bold for FMU. FREEFORM FOREVER.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Funky16Corners:

Brian - I am known for my boldness (and little else)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'd like to see Nick Cave admit the doors - but with Elvis & Iggy it's a small world. Joy Division & the Bunnymen like to say they were about Iggy & Bowie & recognized themselves in the doors after the fact. Don't quite buy it. I'd argue the doors are so fundamental & early it's hard to image even Mark E. Smith without them - but what if (not) is always only an exercise...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm coelacanth∅:

my waiting for the sun is probably still in near-mint condition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Funky16Corners:

@Rev - Ian McCulloch is like the guy on Maury Povich denying the paternity of a kid that looks like a miniature version of himself
Avatar 3:57pm Little Danny:

RRNov63: Fascinating. I'd never thought of Mark E. Smith in the context of the Doors but I know what you're sayin'.
Avatar 3:58pm Brian in UK:

Pop music has many faces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm coelacanth∅:

Thank you for not playing hello i love you. (i'm faithful) and i hope you play my favorite song from this album, spanish caravan.
Avatar 3:58pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hey there! I LOVE THE DOORS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Robbie song here & it shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Photocopy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm coelacanth∅:

the soft parade. i'll be back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Funky16Corners:

@Rev - I think Robbie's legacy is clouded because the first three albums are all shared songwriting credit to the whole band
Avatar 4:00pm Little Danny:

"MacArthur Park" vibes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Funky16Corners:

@C - No Spanish Caravan today (but I'll def play it in the future). Def no Hello I Love You...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm doctorjazz:

This stuff definitely sounds better to me now than it did at the time (Soft Parade was especially when I had enough). But fun to hear now...
Avatar 4:01pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Dunno about Nick Cave & the Doors - except didn't they (Boys Next Door or an earlier band w/Cave & Harvey) do a cover version of Five To One?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Was the doors' improv LSD ethos to share credits.
Can't be emphasized enuff that Live there were whole other things happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

@Doc - I'm convinced I took a pass on The Soft Parade when I was a teen because it has "soft" in the title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Funky16Corners:

@Rev - I think the shared credit was more of a democratic impulse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Funky16Corners:

@Danny - Which one is like MacArthur Park?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Funky16Corners:

Maaaan, I can't tell you how many times drunken, teenage Larry did a dramatic reading of that opening....hooooboy
Avatar 4:05pm Brian in UK:

It is amazing how many albums groups made in the Sixties in such a short time compared to now. Ofcourse touring did not make money then that it does now. tour your latest record or one you made fifteen years ago.

Is this Elmer Gantry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Funky16Corners:

There are so many groups that were cranking out two or three amazing albums a year back then
Avatar 4:07pm Little Danny:

"Tell All the People." I thought I heard a bit of "MacArthur Park" in it. (Or possibly some other '60s pop hit.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Funky16Corners:

Probably wading in the same musical stream!
Avatar 4:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

God Bless pre-1970s limited studio technology - in spite of studio experiments, things were done on time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, no Fleetwood Mac and a mountain of cocaine nesting in the studio for a year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

After Sgt. Pepper everyone had to take a shot @ the Big Studio Statement. Their mates Arthur Lee & Love picked up in everyone else's example & got it about perfect on 'Forever Changes' - which I think of as a sibling to 'Soft Parade' ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Funky16Corners:

I don't think anybody (Beatles included) got it better than Forever Changes
Avatar 4:11pm Brian in UK:

Here comes the curmudgeon, I can still play all Love, Elektra albums without sounding dated. Either way, long live Jac Holtzman, a huge influence on my listening habits back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Remember the Big Venues & Arena Tours were *completely new* to Rawk then! Morrison & the doors adapted their cinematic club intimacy best they could...
Avatar 4:14pm Brian in UK:

Larry, ref Forever Changes, anything that still sounds contemporary after fifty years is tops and hardly any electricity. Just have to hear the start of Alone Again Or to be transported.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Funky16Corners:

I have to say, a lot of the posthumously released live stuff holds up pretty well. Morrison was an entertainer, even when he was disintegrating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Forever Changes is by far my favorite album of all time. And that hasn't changed in years.
Avatar 4:15pm Brian in UK:

Love you Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Funky16Corners:

It used to confuse the hell out of me that this song wasn't on the album of the same name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Funky16Corners:

Love you back Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm coelacanth∅:

Larry @4.00 i know that you plan your programs out meticulously or i would've waited to mention spanish caravan! i think suggesting songs to a show host unsolicited is like implying they can't handle it themselves.
...maybe i'll catch it when you do play it some day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

But I still find it disingenuous everyone embraces Love - & will not even consider their siblings the doors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Funky16Corners:

@C - No worries whatsoever! I don't mind suggestions at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Funky16Corners:

@Rev- Yeah, I feel the same way about Doors vs Velvets
Avatar 4:17pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

If I should start rating The Doors' albums, Morrison Hotel would easily make it to the upper half of the list. This song (Waiting For the Sun) was very cathartic for me as an 8-year old kid, even if I had very little idea about the lyrics (English not being my first language, young age and all)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Funky16Corners:

Fortunately John Cale had better things to do than spend the rest of his life in documentaries pushing for Lou Reed's sainthood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Funky16Corners:

@Photocopy - I agree. I think that the Doors did something a lot of bands were incapable of: they matured
Avatar 4:19pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Well, John Cale had a better solo career than Lou Reed in my opinion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm coelacanth∅:

yup. a lot of prejudice. though i think forever changes floats above any doors album, the doors put out more great songs through the course of their career, in my opinion.
(do i have to say "in my opinion" every time i'm stating something that's obviously an opinion?!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Funky16Corners:

I have to say, for all my ragging on Ray Manzarek, I used to find him amusing. It got grating after a while. Still utmost respect for his playing.
Avatar 4:21pm Erica:

I thought the Doors music was always mature from the start Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The doors' debut & 'Forever Changes' are both in my Top20 Albums Ever.
Avatar 4:21pm Erica:

I thought the Doors music was always mature from the start Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I do too, but they aged well, like a fine wine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm coelacanth∅:

despite whatever else Ray was always a superb musician -in every sense. and not a bad singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Yvang:

Even though the fine wine did some damage to Jim
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& 20 albums is like - nothing.
Avatar 4:23pm Eric rea:

Oops double post.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, if you want my Top 20 you'd better specify a genre and a time period, and then an hour for me to think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm coelacanth∅:

my favorite doors album. (speaking of maturing)
Avatar 4:24pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Also I am completely biased, as Morrison Hotel is the first Doors album I heard. It did the job for me - even the Oliver Stone movie making Doors fans of my moronic class"mates" could not drive me away from the music - I actually heard the 2., 3. & 4. album only then, in my early teens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Funky16Corners:

An aside, the Doors have some pretty spectacular album covers. That Henry Diltz picture on Morrison Hotel is classic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Funky16Corners:

The quote in my yearbook! "No eternal reward will forgive us for wasting the dawn"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm coelacanth∅:

i once applied for a job at the local rhino record store. the application said to name my top 10 favorite albums. i wrote down 20, which was very difficult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Funky16Corners:

Were they weeding out bad taste?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm coelacanth∅:

i don't know but i'm not surprised i didn't get the job, and glad i didn't!
Avatar 4:27pm Brian in UK:

@coel, favourite album is a cinch, relatively, they never ask your favourite colour.
Avatar 4:27pm Sem:

Natal Day greetings and best wishes, Squire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good point on visuals.
I mean - the actual Music of the psychedelic experience - there was no way the doors could not have been included for me.
For 20 Albums - @ this stage I feel like the Beatles Remasters box is one album...but - digress...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Funky16Corners:

Happy Birthday Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm coelacanth∅:

pick one favorite album?! !!!
-i'd have to just lie!
(and i don't have a favourite color either)
Avatar 4:29pm Sem:

People ask my favourite colour, I always say "plaid."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Funky16Corners:

Paisley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

Houndstooth check!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Joyeux Cancerian Solar Return Brian !
Avatar 4:30pm Brian in UK:

Candy pink does it for me. A pink you could eat. Oh yeah.

Thanks Larry.
Avatar 4:30pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Favorite three for me is a piece of piss: Morrison Hotel, The Doors & Strange Days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm coelacanth∅:

i still have the original issue of la woman, with the cellophane window. (actually it left my possession, only to return when my brother died)
it's not in great shape though.
Avatar 4:31pm Brian in UK:

Sem, I am honoured by your greeting.
Avatar 4:31pm Erica:

Happy birthday Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm coelacanth∅:

oh Happy Birthday Brian!
Avatar 4:32pm Brian in UK:

I am in awe of your friendship. FMU rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Funky16Corners:

The way they explode out of this part of the song blows my mind
Avatar 4:33pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Happy Birthday Brian - I love WFMU, it is the second time today I get to say Happy Birthday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm coelacanth∅:

our band played this song. we were a punk band primarily but the bass player wanted to play the doors and yes, and we did.
i was the only one that knew the lyrics but i had trouble drumming and singing this song simultaneously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Funky16Corners:

I used to drum and sing this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jim was into Canned Heat. He dug Blue Cheer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm coelacanth∅:

nice! i had a few albums i played along to -la woman being one. i never practiced otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Its funny because now the doors are alcohol music to me.
Avatar 4:36pm Brian in UK:

Larry, great choice tonight, some people get a bit snooty about some musics. What the heck.
Avatar 4:38pm Brian in UK:

Paul Rothchild has to take much credit for the Doors sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm coelacanth∅:

sorry i had to leave for soft parade before Larry! i just can't stand most of it...though you did play one of the 2 songs i like from it. (wishful sinful; the other one, wild child)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I agree, Rothchild has a lot to do with shaping their sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Funky16Corners:

@C - I dig, def not everyone's cup of tea, but that's OK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Funky16Corners:

This is a garage band from Ohio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Funky16Corners:

And you can tell they learned the lyrics (incorrectly) from the record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm coelacanth∅:

...there is that introduction to (the incohesive amalgam of scraps of ideas that became) the title track. when that came on when i had friends over i pushed it beyond the perpetually pushing it with my mother, who was always stewing in the other end of the apartment, and turned it up as loud as my system would go "YOU CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER!"
-and everyone freaked for a minute!
Avatar 4:47pm Erica:

Breakonthroughtotheotherside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Funky16Corners:

I'd love to know where Morrison got that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cigarette / Forget in fact lifted from Van & Them's 'You Just Can't Win'.
Soul Kitchen just makes explicit to me the doors presented this whole aspect of Psychedelia that was not flowers. The THC more than the CBD as it were.
Avatar 4:49pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

back when The Simpsons were still good, Krusty the Clown did a kick-ass "Break On Through"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Funky16Corners:

@Rev - They were the darkest band on their scene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Funky16Corners:

@Photocopy - There was a hilarious parody of Break On Through I used to hear on the radio but I couldn't find it
Avatar 4:50pm still b/p:

Julie sounds like Mama Cass in occasional lines but not in others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

one just never really knows what one might find on WFMU. Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& People Are Strange even more so. It brings Btecht all the way to the kiddies - or it did for me. I mean - that's still a feat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Doug Schulkind:

Coming up in a couple of hours, Scott McDowell and The Long Rally will be filling in for Explorers Room, here on the Drummer Stream!

MEET UP HERE: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Granny!
Avatar 4:51pm Brian in UK:

The Doors go Weill/Brecht.
Avatar 4:52pm Sem:

Oh, hell yes. Merry. Been too long.

Thanks, Larry, for the shows you do. See you and all next time, on the other side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Funky16Corners:

@SBP - That Julie Budd album is pretty interesting considering where her career took her later on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Funky16Corners:

My pleasure, Sem!
  4:53pm Leslie:

While I enjoy all the musical knowledge on here, IMHO, the Doors are awesome and for someone who discovered them at 11/12, still loved. nuff said.
  4:53pm Leslie:

Oh and Larry, GREAT show!
Avatar 4:53pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Larry for keeping it lively. Stay safe everyone.
