Hello, Boss and Groovers!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Woo:

This means lots of Bee Gees. Thank you. Is that a mellotron making those sounds on this?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Threemoons:

Good afternoon, Todd!
  3:02pm Andrew in Toronto:

Howdy everybody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Chop Scott:

@Todd Ha!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Woo:

That was indeed a mellotron: Maurice Gibb talks about the mellotron on this track: "We started off with a mellotron and we used that on "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show", I had to repeat that on stage, but I used an organ". The Bee Gees denied rumours that the Beatles performed on this record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

BGs 1st album here - definitive PsychPop Freakbeat of the highest order...so 'Revolver' it's got a Klaus Voormann cover.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Threemoons:

@Woo come to think of it there IS a very Beatles vibe to that song.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Thanks, Jack! Part II comes next week…
  3:08pm John L:

For some reason most of the early Bee Gees albums are out of print, both on cd and LP. There must be some kind of dispute over the rights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm mariano:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Woo:

@Threemoons, there is a Beatles vibe and then occasionally dips into Yardbirds drone territory. A masterpiece.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Matt Clarke:

You got good Bee Gees taste, Todd
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Mr. Pumpy:

Gaylord, being modest again. I think that joke has legs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Gaylord Fields:

Mr. Pumpy: Haha! Fair enough. But then, you placed the ball on the tee, put the bat in my hand, and I'm supposed to just leave the ball sitting there like a schmo? Not bloody likely!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Woo:

And this was hit around the same time as the Monkees' Words? Lots of words.
  4:30pm George in WO:

Lovin' the pre-disco Bee Gees! Great stuff, Todd!

Oh do your think their bassist heard Rain?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm McGroovey:

OK. Now I want to start a early-BeeGees cover band.

And a Swell Maps cover band, but that's old news.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Handy Haversack:

Contour Lines! See the VH-1 Behind the Music about our inevitable fall!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Matt Clarke:

@steveo: Maurice sure did use "Rain" and "Paperback Writer" as his template. Rickenbacker 'n all!
  4:41pm paul:

So much better than their disco stuff.
  4:44pm pinto bean:

Hi Todd,
I’ve listened to your shows at oft times the past couple weeks due to summer camp responsibilities and other things my wife makes me do...anyway the shows have been great. I hope you still appreciate Svengoolie as much as I do and that your summer has been full of chipwiches, nathans hot dogs, and Naturdays. Best to you and Bleylock (;)).
Your Virtual Pal,
Pinto Bean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm steveo:

Such a great sound, Matt
Avatar 4:47pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Pinto Bean: Thanks man. Hope everyone is the same at camp. I have to say Sissophonic grilled one of the best burgers I've ever had last night. And tomorrow we have a double date at Hiram's. So no complaints in the food dept. at least.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Mr. Pumpy:

Swing, Gaylord...Swiinnngt!
  4:51pm Greg:

I remember seeing the Bee gees start to lip-sync to Got to get a message to you (I think) on the Woody Woodbury show.
And as they began
..the record was at the wrong higher speed... So it came out like the Chipmunks.... They chuckled and then restarted the right way...
Avatar 4:52pm Michael Shelley:

I never quite understood the MAD Bee Gees parody from 1980 "Barely Alive." They were in their mid-30s at the time. Is the idea that Disco will age you? .... a rare MAD slip. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 4:54pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Greg: Woody Woodbury was Florida based, correct?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Matt Clarke:

Yes! "Such A Shame" so great
  4:59pm Listener Marianne:

Todd, this show is so good!!!
Avatar 5:00pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Thanks Marianne!
Avatar 🎸 5:00pm spodiodi:

Michael Shelley, i remember that paraody, but didn't remember it being from MAD magazine (thanks for the memory and link). I never thought about what it may have been trying to say about the Bee Gees, just that it was a funny song about aging disco folks (?) idk
  5:01pm Greg:

I was in NYC and possibly he was filling in for Mike Douglas show..?
Got to look it up..

There was also an episode with Billy Mumy as a guest and they let him do the "we'll be right back after this commercial " and he said the
. Woody Woody show instead of the Woody Woodbury show....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm mariano:

Michael Shelley: I remember MAD being decidedly in the anti-disco camp.
  5:07pm Earth Walker:

We used to wear Disco Sucks T-shirts
And I ended up at Studio 54 and Xenon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Matt Clarke:

Damn they should have put Vince's vocals in there on all their harmonies
Avatar 5:10pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Matt Clarke: Right? His vocals are so good on those Vince Maloney Sect tracks, albeit in different style.
  5:11pm Greg:

The Woody Woodbury Show was on television from 1967 to 1968,[8] a 90-minute talk/variety show which aired weekday afternoons (in most markets)... From Wikipedia
So I guess it was actually syndicated in NYC....

Great show... we all love the mellotron... And the Bee Gees
Cheers

And Woody Woodbury is still alive he's 96 who would have guessed..
Avatar 5:13pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Greg: Good for him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Gaylord Fields:

@Matt Clarke: Just imagine what a Maurice and Vince–led side group would have sounded like!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Matt Clarke:

@Gaylord: How I wish I could hear that.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Handy Haversack:

Gaylord, did you get an en dash in your comment? Respect!

The extraordinary vocal harmony of course & strong melodic Pop qualty - rich but as stated not overstated Production - & these compelling evocative Songs with eccentricity always threatening to force its way in - but all making appeals to your emotions

  5:25pm Mark Porter:

Todd, thanks for the interview with Vince and for playing an array of awesome Bee Gees tunes: melodic to the nth degree, imaginative arrangements, grabby lyrics, and those vocals. In homage to the Bee Gees, I'm ready to add an exclamation point!

This Stones is from 2020? Wow. It's got that "Some Girls" vibe.
Avatar 5:46pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@scott: Terry Adams told me he ran into Marvin Hamlisch at a drug store once. He walked up to him and told him how much he loved "The Swimmer" soundtrack album. Marvin looked at him and said, "So you're the guy that bought it."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Revolution iRabbit Nov63:

Great show, Todd
  5:54pm Stonesy:

Yeah this song has been on bootlegs for years but not in this quality obviously. One of the other tracks is called Scarlet which jimmy Page plays on. So many other songs that never came out from these sessions that should have been on this upcoming deluxe. Oh well, maybe one day
