Morning Jan! Over/unders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Chresti! How are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Otis:

Hi Jan & Chresti. Waking up here in a heatwave with cool water, ready for some nice sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am chresti:

Sleepy, making kaffe, how are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Jan Turkenburg:

Heatwave? Well, overhere it has been rainy and temps below average for days...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am chresti:

Hi Otis, we're having a heatwave, too,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Jan Turkenburg:

But I feel good :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am chresti:

I'd much rather be having a coldwave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Otis:

Wish it was rainy, I am an autumn and rainy day person. But soon, wow, in Montreal we'll have a whole lotta rain and snow... well months off but looking forward to some rain over this weekend with hopeful low humidity.
Avatar 10:05am worldsworstrecords:

Gotta love Ma Rainey... the naughty girl :-)
Avatar 10:05am solo mon:

Come to Portland or everyone, it’s overcast and 56 degrees. That’s julyvember in PNW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Darryl! Hi Solomon!
Avatar 10:06am worldsworstrecords:

Incidentally, that woman in the white tux is Gladys Bentley, not Ma Rainey
Avatar 10:06am solo mon:

Jan I think we are having the same weather rn :-) Hi!
Avatar 10:07am worldsworstrecords:

Hi Jan! Hey everyone!
Avatar 10:07am solo mon:

Darryl that restaurant you went to the other day looked so good, how was it???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am chresti:

I'm on my way, solo mon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar 10:10am solo mon:

Good morning GST!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Listener Bob in PGH:

Wow, it's crowded already! Hello everyone. The boss called me right as the show started. Horrors!
Avatar 10:12am solo mon:

Thank you Jan! Its so hard to figure out how to navigate the past- we will figure it out together. I looooove your show and think you are the BEST!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Granny! Hi Bob! Hope everyone is doing ok.
Avatar 10:14am solo mon:

My fav restaurant is opening up this weekend, they are only doing outdoor dining. Which is great, and I’m thinking of going :-)
  10:14am Martinibomb:

hello! Wow it's already packed here in the chat room
Avatar 10:15am solo mon:

MB! We all in the early bird club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MB! How's life?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

yep, just stampeding into Sheena's Jungle Room in our pajamas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am chresti:

Joop has a nice voice.
  10:17am Martinibomb:

@jan pretty good - I think we are adopting a new dog this Saturday - looking forward to that
  10:18am Martinibomb:

@solo which restaurant is that?
Avatar 10:18am solo mon:

Chresti I left a key under the mat and a chocolate in the pilllow ( why do they do that?!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Joop's voice kept reminding me of Anohni Antony Johnson
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Listener Bob in PGH:

We are having quite the heatwave here in western Pennsylvania. Normally we might only get a handful of days over 90 F. (32 C.). We've been well over that every single day for that last ten days or two weeks. It is supposed to cool down on Saturday. This is the longest/hottest heat wave since I've lived here (7+ years). And we've got humidity on top of the heat here of course.
Avatar 10:20am solo mon:

Radar! I love em, also the owners are really good friends. The nicest folx.
Avatar 10:20am worldsworstrecords:

You should, solo, so long as you feel safe. My husband has health issues: we would not have gone if they had not been able to make sure we would be comfortable and safe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Otis:

Jan - Taking it nice and slow... nice. Finding those moments.
Recently have been doing the same here, reading more and balancing time/efforts.
Avatar 10:21am solo mon:

Ooh MB an new dog! How exciting.
Avatar 10:22am worldsworstrecords:

The government here has just announced a scheme to get people back into restaurants, cafes and pubs, paying up to £10 per head off the bill Monday-Wednesday. We will definitely take advantage of that!
Avatar 10:23am worldsworstrecords:

New doggie, MB? do tell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, are you going to adopt one from an animal shelter, or a newly born nest somewhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am chresti:

Granny, I think you're right, another great voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Rich in Washington:

Howdy, Jan!
Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Jan Turkenburg:

Hey Rich, how are things today?
Avatar 10:34am solo mon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Hi Joe! Good to have you here, again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am WR:

Personally I don't care for the RnS computer hosts. It can be a plus that listeners can have the comments active.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am WR:

Hard to say about Toots Paka's Hawaiians, no detail on the members easily found online, except lists of releases. There are photos on discogs but can't say anything sure from those either.
Avatar 11:34am BC Sterrett:

Morning everyone :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar 11:37am worldsworstrecords:

just found this too, from 1917: "Toots Paka, the noted hulu hulu dancer, who with her company of Native Hawaiian singers and instrumentalists, will be one of the headliners of the new vaudeville bill opening at the Orpheum Theatre Wednesday evening."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am chresti:

mmmm..pot butter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Listener Bob in PGH:

@GST - you can use the "waste" from making nut milk to make crackers. I've done it several times with cashews and it's easy and very tasty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Listener Bob in PGH:

Actually it was almonds, not cashews
Avatar 11:40am worldsworstrecords:

Toots' hubby: www.findagrave.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am WR:

Yes, does look that they are Hawaiians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar 11:55am solo mon:

Lovely Jan! Thanks for the music xo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am WR:

Plus, want to clarify that I don't think that black face and "race" recordings should be banned. But if played should be given context and be called out for racism.
For example whenever I think of Mississippi Mud, I always hear the original lyric with the word "darkies" instead of the later revised lyric "the people".
