Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Yvang:

Let's make a band Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm coelacanth∅:

greetings David; subterranean Freedom Riders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm chresti:

Let's do the Continental, Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm David Dichelle:

Greetings Phillippe, ßrian, Michael, Chresti, Chris, Yvang, String. Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm spodiodi:

hi David & company!
Avatar 3:04pm WR:

I'm on board!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm spodiodi:

what does this cord do?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David Dichelle:

And Spodiodi and WR!
Avatar 3:05pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and fellow travellers.
Whatever happened to Quadrophonic sound?
Avatar 3:05pm βrian:

We just heard about our local mandatory face mask order. Where's my PPE swag, anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm spodiodi:

better leave it be... off to the snack car
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm David Dichelle:

Excellent questions, Brian and βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Michael 98145:

i still think a WFMU mask would be a great seller
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm chresti:

Agree @Michael 98145
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Yes:

good afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm David Dichelle:

βrian: Do you mean your WFMU swag?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm David Dichelle:

Hello, Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm chris:

yeah, Michael. the dog and cow woof moo logo thingy would be sweet on a mask.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm doctorjazz:

Rockin out pic the gate!
Avatar 3:09pm βrian:

Quadrophonic sound went by the wayside, along with that redundant set of ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm David Dichelle:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Carmichael:

Heya David and people of favorable tuneage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Michael 98145:

Maybe i'll get me a cooler ... wfmu.store...
Avatar 3:11pm βrian:

@Carmichael: Michele was relating a story about a tuneage fish sandwich during the last show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm David Dichelle:

Hey there Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm David Dichelle:

Okay, I finally read the comments carefully - and yes, a WFMU mask makes total sense!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Bas NL:

Hi David & travelravelers!
Avatar 3:13pm Sem:

Hello, David, and all aboard. Transported on this magic carpet ride to places unknown. Thx, need it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Bas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm coelacanth∅:

there are really obvious merchandise ideas that somehow haven't been implemented
...the mask is a new one of course; but the woof moo sticker from 7-8? years ago - OBVIOUS!
also the woof moo t-shirt with color options.
it's bewildering that something so obvious hasn't happened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm David Dichelle:

And (early) evening, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Michael 98145:

June Tabor? Really? cool
Avatar 3:16pm βrian:

The hard part about face masks is getting the sizing right. I just bought a "large" that covers only my mouth and the very tip of my nose. Kinda useless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm chris:

white rabbit with cello? yes, please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm David Dichelle:

I love this cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm doctorjazz:

Quad was never a major thing, even when it WAS a thing. (Home theater/surround did much better)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm dutchtheo:

Hallo, David, and freeform subway nomads!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm chris:

5x5 good buddy.
Avatar 3:21pm fred:

Good evening David and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Cmurtha:

That Isreali song was dope
Avatar 3:21pm Really Lisa:

Hello David and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm coelacanth∅:

i love Willie O'Winsbury - but every version i've ever heard is disappointing after Anne Briggs'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm David Dichelle:

Hello out there Dutchtheo, Fred, Cmurtha, Lisa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm coelacanth∅:

i have a few quadraphonic records but never thought there was much point in investing in a more complicated system that would be playing back in stereo anyway at least 95% of the time.
Avatar 3:28pm Brian in UK:

I think that John Renbourne did a version of this solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm chresti:

Sorry if you're under the weather, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm coelacanth∅:

ahhh. Ms.Briggs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm David Dichelle:

Brian: I don't seem to have that one, I'm afraid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm David Dichelle:

Chresti: I'm think I'm okay, but thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm coelacanth∅:

and Richard Thompson did it.
it's Richard Thompson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

there's a version by a british group c.1970 that i played on the jukebox in the pub, as it was the only version available. i'm not remembering who but a famous group. it wasn't great.
Avatar 3:38pm Brian in UK:

Ah the milky white skin, very popular in Roud ballads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm David Dichelle:

Coel: Richard Thompson had a very different take on the song with Fairport.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm David Dichelle:

Brian: Yes, you can tick that off your folk song bingo card.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm coelacanth∅:

(and Meg Baird's is Excellent)

David i heard what i now guess to be a demo (?) of him doing it solo, fairly similar take as Anne's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm coelacanth∅:

-or maybe it was live.
... it wasn't "farewell farewell".
Avatar 3:44pm Sem:

...and hair as black as a raven's wing seems to go along with the milky white skin. Need we say that lips as red as cherries are standard likewise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm David Dichelle:

Okay, I don't think I've heard that demo - or at least can't recall.
Avatar 3:46pm TDK60:

Hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm David Dichelle:

Sem, at least there's a relatively unusual berry-brown gown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm David Dichelle:

Hey TDK!
Avatar 3:46pm βrian:

"Hair as black as a kalamata olive, " maybe.
  3:49pm ?:

'ello! Am listening and lurking as usual...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm David Dichelle:

Hello ?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm coelacanth∅:

...and her lips were cherry red for she'd been eating cherries.
Avatar 3:50pm Brian in UK:

David, what is the building in the photograph?
Avatar 3:51pm Sem:

Noted, David @3:46.
Avatar 3:53pm kuriousornj:

at last, a question! @Brian UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Bas NL:

The picture looks more and more Garten en less Kolonnaden. Nice and estranged picture!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Michael 98145:

Looks like it could use a gardener!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm chresti:

Looks like it would be cool inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm chresti:

A tennis customer requested that I tell "the groundskeeper" to remove some leaves off the court, as if she were at a country club or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm coelacanth∅:

David that Richard Thompson version was live and is on the "RT -life and music of..." box set, the one i will likely never be able to obtain.
...i don't know where i heard it. not on wfmu apparently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm coelacanth∅:

chresti then you handed her a rake?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm chris:

this track makes me thirsty for a pint or two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm chresti:

Exactly, offered the leaf blower, coel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm spodiodi:

sounds like a tea party i'd like to attend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Carmichael:

The rake of Griffith.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm coelacanth∅:

me too chris but i haven't finished my tea yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm chris:

was her name "Karen", chresti? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm David Dichelle:

Thanks for asking, Brian, that is a building behind the main building of the Volkshaus here in Leipzig, which houses a pub and trade union offices among other things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Bas NL:

*Guzzles down a can of Heineken*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Carmichael:

Ha ha Chris ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm chresti:

Haha chris, no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Carmichael:

I watched about 10 Karen videos yesterday from lack of nothing to do. They're incredibly prolific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm coelacanth∅:

by the way chris i miss Buster.
...enough that i tracked down that .gif -and in the process looked at a million Buster Keaton .gifs and added a few of them to my desktop images.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm doctorjazz:

Don't hear much James Brown here, but what do I know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm coelacanth∅:

(who's Karen and should i care?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi David and Schwarzfahrer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm coelacanth∅:

i like this Grand Funk Orchestra
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm chris:

coel, Karen has come to mean, white lady of privilege or worse. my wife is seriously considering a name change now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm David Dichelle:

Greetings, Henry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm coelacanth∅:

i hope my neighbors like chick habit as much as i do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Webhamster Henry:

April March was an old WFMU standard artist back in the day. I think Gaylord did an interview with her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm spodiodi:

i feel bad for the really incredibly nice Karen i know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Stanley:

(Voice from under the seat) Is it safe to come out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm coelacanth∅:

haha oh sorry chris. it'll pass though. it's stupid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm David Dichelle:

Interesting, Henry, I'll have to check the archives for that.
Avatar 4:12pm Brian in UK:

Hey Stanley, thought the luggage rack was your normal habitat.

George or Chiffons?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm David Dichelle:

Stanley, not to worry, the ticket machine is permanently broken so you can ride for free.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm David Dichelle:

(That is actually a rule here on the trams.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Webhamster Henry:

@DD: It may predate the archives!
in re: Quadraphonic: I have a quad Joe Cocker "8-track" (which is probably a 4 track) that I'm curious to find out what got put where.

The modern equivalent of Quad is 5.1 audio, similarly more audio than one normally would want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm David Dichelle:

Brian: The Kjiffons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Carmichael:

@coel, they are the females who call 911 whenever they see a person of color, claiming to be threatened with violence of some kind. They've recently been cited for abuse of 911. Very expensive phone call.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm chresti:

This customer is a history professor that teaches/taught at UCLA. India, I think, is where she's from originally.
Avatar 4:15pm fred:

@David: Buses have been free here since march (to avoid people getting close to the driver). That ended today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Webhamster Henry:

Did you subway riders catch Gary's Bodega Pop tribute to Kryzys?
wfmu.org...
  4:16pm Dean:

Sheila B. interview with April March, July 13, 2018: https://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/80202
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm coelacanth∅:

Henry i thought of "5.1" before but that's just stereo divided into more channels, probably with eq differences between them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm David Dichelle:

Fred: I am all for following Luxembourg's lead and making all public transport free in general.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Webhamster Henry:

@DD the local bus system has been free here in Kingston (NY), but they generally don't go anywhere I'd want to go, and the busses are spaced out by about an hour, so .. ????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Bas NL:

I once heard a '5.1' system, where the owner had lined up the speakers nicely next to each other. It sounded very weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm chresti:

Henry, I make a point of catching all of Gary's shows. That's a good 'un.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Webhamster Henry:

@coel there was going to be a streaming service that would stream "stems" so you could mix them yourself live. That is, (usually) vocals, bass, drums, and "whatever" would be isolated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm David Dichelle:

Couldn't agree more, Chresti!
Avatar 4:21pm Brian in UK:

I used to own The Flaming Lips album Zaarika. Could never could get the setup right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Bas NL:

Nothing like a solid Russian fuzz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Carmichael:

I have 5.1 surround. It works very well when done right, especially for movies. It's in the hands of the engineer, and fortunately I know a great one. More often it sounds kind of mushy.
Avatar 4:26pm TDK60:

People have been advocating free transport here in NYC for a while, but the powers-that-be are not willing, yet... / I have an old quadrophonic version of Jefferson Airplane's Volunteers LP. It sounds awful in stereo, almost like a different recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm chresti:

I listen to all of your shows, too, David, I usually miss the first set because I'm at work.
Avatar 4:28pm fred:

@David: I guess we're not Luxembourg (though there is a train stop by that name in Paris). The transit authority is threatening either a 25% rate hike or a lockout. I'd love free transit, but it won't happen here: the right hates public transit anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Chresti, it is much appreciated!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm coelacanth∅:

i've heard 5.1 systems that sounded excellent. and i've bought some 5.1 dvds primarily for the sound quality -even played through only 2 speakers.
..my last receiver was 5.1 compatible but i had no interest in setting it up. unfortunately this $3000.00 new (i got for $145. -speaking of privilege -the former owner's) sounded like shit without the whole set-up.
no bass.
Avatar 4:30pm Sem:

I'll have what Laboratorija Zvuka having.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm coelacanth∅:

Henry@4.20 that sounds like fun!
Avatar 4:32pm TDK60:

Fred: "Here" is France?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm coelacanth∅:

(me@4.30 it was a home theatre amplifier)
Avatar 4:38pm TDK60:

Happy b.day, Ringo and Gustav.
Avatar 4:38pm fred:

@TDK60: More specifically Paris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Bas NL:

(Pfeww!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm coelacanth∅:

Happy Birthday Ringo! and many more!
...Gustav too...many more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm David Dichelle:

There has been lots of talk here in Leipzig of a €365/year ticket for the city, but I still think it should be free or close to it, at least for residents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm David Dichelle:

Mahler is exactly twice as old as Ringo as of today.
Avatar 4:46pm TDK60:

That's funny, Fred; the Right here in the US dislikes public transport too. I suppose they figure everyone just needs a big SUV.
Avatar 4:50pm fred:

@TDK60: Then they're more enlightened than our political class, who think everyone has one. Well, at least anyone worth thinking about
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm chresti:

Yeah, the oil and auto barons don't like public transport here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm chresti:

LA once had public transport, the Red Car, that got dismantled to make way for freeways and more cars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm chris:

i had forgotten i shared a birthday with Ringo (he's got decades on me, though).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm David Dichelle:

Happy birthday, Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm chris:

thanks, David. this show's a great gift! cheers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm chresti:

Happy birthday chris and Ringo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm David Dichelle:

My pleasure, Chris - glad to be part of your day!
Avatar 4:59pm Sem:

Thank you, David. Hope to see you and all next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm chris:

thanks, chresti! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Sem, have a good evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm spodiodi:

happy bday, chris!

adios, Sem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm chresti:

See you, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm chris:

thanks, spodiodi!
Avatar 5:13pm TDK60:

Happy birthday Chris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm chris:

thanks, TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm coelacanth∅:

Happy Birthday chris!
tchau Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm chris:

thanks, coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm doctorjazz:

Had to cut out for a bit, back for the home stretch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm doctorjazz:

Happy Birthday, Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm coelacanth∅:

welcome back, Buster -hey where you going?!
Avatar 5:36pm TDK60:

Just looked at Ringo's site. He's doing a big birthday bash online show with lots of Names, including that bassist from Wings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm chris:

thank you, good Doctor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm doctorjazz:

Definitely a percussion discussion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm David Dichelle:

Welcome back, Dr. J. Things busy today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm David Dichelle:

TDK: That wings a bell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm coelacanth∅:

TDK you mean Dirk McQuickly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm doctorjazz:

Pretty busy in the office (in this odd, post-COVID sort of way), then had to run to an ophthalmologist appointment (where I'm sitting now).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm coelacanth∅:

i have an appointment with my optimist later. i don't really see the point in going though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm David Dichelle:

Always look on the bright side of the eye chart,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm spodiodi:

haha, coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm coelacanth∅:

well that's how they get you, David. the damn thing's backlit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm doctorjazz:

Body is just falling apart in j old age, I suppose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm doctorjazz:

Love this symphony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm David Dichelle:

Coel: The question is whether it's half-lit or half-darkened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm coelacanth∅:

i've been working on the computer a lot and my neck is in severe pain much of the time. i realised that because my near vision is excellent but my far vision is slightly fuzzy, the distance within arms' reach to the keyboard is exactly wrong for my eyes. too far for no glasses, too close for glasses.
so i end up wayyy too close.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm coelacanth∅:

David (@5.52) i'll ask my optimist about that but i'm sure i'll get some stupid answer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm David Dichelle:

They should finally come up with glasses that adapt to the surroundings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm spodiodi:

thanks a lot for the show, David!
