For those who don't remember the Move bombing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Krys O.:

I remember it sadly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Krys O.:

Listen to Black voices and don't center yourself if you're white.
Avatar 3:33pm Jeff Moore:

@Krys O: I sure do. It SHOULD be hard to believe that happened... but it isn't.

It's also really weird how many people I run across who've never heard about it. Like, maybe it was treated as a local Philadelphia story and didn't make national news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Jeff Golick:

There's a remarkable, heart-rending documentary about the MOVE bombing: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Listened to an NPR program had the author of 'Dying Of Whiteness' on with others.
Made me think of the intersectionality of where we find ourselves. I think one challenge of speaking of 'privilege' is a lot of whites are feeling more used & deprived all the time - which of course does not diminish the truth of white privilege racially.
I think in fact economics, class & race are all being manipulated & racists are pawns in the game as Dylan sang.
  3:38pm T-Taylor:

Hey my name is Taylor I love you so much I listen to all your shows you sound so sweet Im so lonely but I'm fit and drive a motorcycle and am good at music. Do you like music and food?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Krys O.:

The documentary about the Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution is a must-see.

Gotta jump off the board for commute home. Will have to listen to the archive. Thanks, Olivia and Angel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Another profound NPR experience :) was this one :

- from a Trauma Specialist & Physical Therapist.
Words & words - but he starts in the Body - even the Racial Body.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Who was Angel talking about who was doing some really bad appropriation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm brainiac:

This link was shared by djsheilab on her show, and I can't remember anything more consciousness expanding for me than Robin DiAngelo discusses 'White Fragility': youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

West African Spiritual practices are the roots of all our beloved African American musical forms. Refernce 'Shadow Dancing in the USA' by Michael Ventura. Rhytms completely different from the European way of relating Body & Spirt. So our Musics *are* a Revolution.

(The author of A Power Stronger than Itself, Prof. George E. Lewis, turns 68 next week, 7/14.)
  4:01pm prudy:

gotta disagree with Angel's take on the marches...alot of people who went to them attended precisely BECAUSE the violence visited on black people has been going on forever and is nothing new...Olivia...because a musician is white doesn't automatically mean he/she/they can't play jazz well...that's another kind of raicial thinking..appropriation is a problem when it is not recognized...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jazz is U.S.American Music - from the collision of African & European cultures - impossible without the persecutions & genius adaptability of African Americans. As Wynton Marsalis said - Musicians hear something good - they wanna do it: you can close your eyes - but not your ears! Which is one of the great Gifts of African-American Music. It could not be Segregated!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Kat in Chicago:

Cosigned on the radio comments!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well of course Musicians are Segregated & denied all the time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I wonder if it's like there was always War - but when Vietnam got on TV - people wanted to end it. Billy Bragg just wrote about youth, new media - & accountability.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I'm pretty sure The Cry of Jazz was put out on DVD by Atavistic in the early 2000s as another Chicago tie-in. Sorry to be knowitall@aol.com.

@Handy Haversack: Welcome back to reality, had a good time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, ami -- yeah, definitely, thanks! We put in eight miles of paddling on the Connecticut and West Rivers yesterday and then today met WFMU's Wendy del Formaggio for lunch before hitting the road. And we *flew* home -- no traffic, and that storm didn't hit till we reached Greenpoint.

Cannot separate entire history of War on Drugs from Racism. No way. Note that 'marijuana' is now 'cannabis" as more legal. You know the Jim Crow of the prison-industrial complex is based on drug persecution. Gawd whole Crapitalust narrative of poverty = bad character.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Krys O.:

Defeating racism is primary, than poverty can be addressed more easily, not the other way around. Thanks again, Olivia and Angel for sharing this conversation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Perhaps they are both tools of the adversary. If the Police Lynch you - your bank statement is certainly less relevant than your vital respiration just then.
