@Krys O: I sure do. It SHOULD be hard to believe that happened... but it isn't.

It's also really weird how many people I run across who've never heard about it. Like, maybe it was treated as a local Philadelphia story and didn't make national news.

There's a remarkable, heart-rending documentary about the MOVE bombing: www.youtube.com...

Listened to an NPR program had the author of 'Dying Of Whiteness' on with others.
Made me think of the intersectionality of where we find ourselves. I think one challenge of speaking of 'privilege' is a lot of whites are feeling more used & deprived all the time - which of course does not diminish the truth of white privilege racially.
I think in fact economics, class & race are all being manipulated & racists are pawns in the game as Dylan sang.

West African Spiritual practices are the roots of all our beloved African American musical forms. Refernce 'Shadow Dancing in the USA' by Michael Ventura. Rhytms completely different from the European way of relating Body & Spirt. So our Musics *are* a Revolution.

gotta disagree with Angel's take on the marches...alot of people who went to them attended precisely BECAUSE the violence visited on black people has been going on forever and is nothing new...Olivia...because a musician is white doesn't automatically mean he/she/they can't play jazz well...that's another kind of raicial thinking..appropriation is a problem when it is not recognized...
Avatar 4:08pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jazz is U.S.American Music - from the collision of African & European cultures - impossible without the persecutions & genius adaptability of African Americans. As Wynton Marsalis said - Musicians hear something good - they wanna do it: you can close your eyes - but not your ears! Which is one of the great Gifts of African-American Music. It could not be Segregated!

Hey, ami -- yeah, definitely, thanks! We put in eight miles of paddling on the Connecticut and West Rivers yesterday and then today met WFMU's Wendy del Formaggio for lunch before hitting the road. And we *flew* home -- no traffic, and that storm didn't hit till we reached Greenpoint.

Cannot separate entire history of War on Drugs from Racism. No way. Note that 'marijuana' is now 'cannabis" as more legal. You know the Jim Crow of the prison-industrial complex is based on drug persecution. Gawd whole Crapitalust narrative of poverty = bad character.
