Boo, Mary. Good afternoon.
Avatar 12:00pm Really Lisa:

Hello Mary, βrian, and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Carmichael:

Heya Mary, and good morning to the morning people. Good afternoon to the afternoon people. And a smattering of good evenings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Handy Haversack:

Hello, Mary. Hello, Wingnuts. 100 percent here for *hopefully* 80 percent of the show!
Avatar 12:02pm Franco Twinkie:

Mary, the music monitor is home today.
Avatar 12:04pm Franco Twinkie:

Carmichael, Handy, Brian. Howya doin'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm chresti:

Hi Mary and Wingers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Handy Haversack:

OK, Franco. A little harried, but you know. How are things?
Avatar 12:07pm Franco Twinkie:

Trying to get the important stuff(drawing) done before I start on the stupid stuff(Paying bills)
Avatar 12:07pm Sem:

Hi, Mary, the 100% whatever crowd, and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm chresti:

Taking a break from sputtering droplets today.
Avatar 12:09pm βrian:

I'm doing ok. Antsy for cooler weather, to be sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Rich in Washington:

I got my WFMU swag the other day and I'm so happy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Hi Mary. That piece was Mavielous.
Avatar 12:11pm Mary Wing:

HELLO Brian, Lisa, Carmichael, Handy, Franco, chresti, Sem, Rich, and Doug!!
I had to jump out of the shower to begin my playlist, heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Handy Haversack:

Thunder rolling around out there, which drove me back inside, though it's the first not-miserably-hot day in a while. I just told the dog, "Thunder is just nature's way of saying your a bad boy." He's not taking it too much to heart, though.

Here comes the rain now.

No swag here yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello and whatever.
Avatar 12:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Rich, I got mine too! I had totally forgotten what I asked for, so it was all a big surprise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm chresti:

Me too, Rich. Brian, I'm in heat hibernation mode until November.
Avatar 12:14pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ken!

Oops, forgot to say Rabbit Rabbit for July! I never heard that particular saying until I was a grown-up; did anyone's family have that habit when they were kids?
Avatar 12:16pm Franco Twinkie:

I just came inside for a coffee refill about half an hour ago and here I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm chresti:

Mary, no, never heard that one.
Avatar 12:17pm Mary Wing:

(I'm so glad the music monitor is here; the playlist never has enough clicky-stars when the monitor is away <3 <3 <3)
Avatar 12:17pm βrian:

We always said, "OCD, OCD!"
And then we washed our hands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm chresti:

Heh. I pity the children of the pandemic...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi 100%ers. You know, you can sing along to The Most Unwanted Music:
davesoldier.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Rich in Washington:

I also forgot. In fact, I thought I had forgotten to request swag altogether! It was a nice surprise.
Avatar 12:20pm Mary Wing:

Hi Henry! OMFG, you just made my entire week with that link!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm chresti:

So what's "rabbit rabbit"?
Avatar 12:21pm Mary Wing:

From Wikipedia: "Rabbit rabbit rabbit" is a superstition found in Britain and North America wherein a person says or repeats the words "rabbit", "rabbits" and/or "white rabbits" aloud upon waking on the first day of a month, to ensure good luck for the rest of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Handy Haversack:

God, I love the "Labor Day" part of this track. I sing it all the time. I cannot not want this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm WR:

Never heard of RabitRabit for July. Saw RevolutionRabitNov63 comment that earlier this morning but thought it was a rev rabbit thing to say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Webhamster Henry:

"Canada Day! Canada Day! Lots of Hockey, Maple Syrup! Canada Day! Canada Day! Do All Your Shopping... At Tim Horton's!"
  12:22pm rw:

Good morning! What’s going on?
Avatar 12:23pm Mary Wing:

Hiya WR and rw! Synchronicity!
Avatar 12:23pm Franco Twinkie:

Komar & Melamid are tag-team dynamos with the paint brushes, I had no idea they were dance floor assassins as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Webhamster Henry:

Dave Soldier is an old fan of the station - no doubt due to the lucrative royalties from this song!
  12:23pm Dean:

Debbie Harry's and George Sands' birthdays, folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Rich in Washington:

I love this. I actually like this more than their Most Wanted Song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm chresti:

Hmmm...white rabbit.
Avatar 12:24pm Mary Wing:

DO ALL YOUR SHOPPING
AT WALMART!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm chresti:

Ha WR.
  12:25pm Dean:

I don't do my shopping at Walmart, but I DO ALL MY SHOUTING THERE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Handy Haversack:

100 percent, Rich.
Avatar 12:25pm Mary Wing:

No kidding, Rich--The Most Wanted Song leaves me cold, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm chresti:

Haha Dean.
Avatar 12:27pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, Dean! We all scream for ice cream, and WALMART!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Handy Haversack:

Also, I am the least wanted person. Here's a partial list of stuff I love in music:

accordion bagpipe
banjo
flute/piccolo
harmonica
organ/synthesizer
Casio synth/ranter
tuba
harp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm WR:

en.m.wikipedia.org...

Ah, rabit rabit is a first day of the month thing. Never heard of it before mentions by folks on WFMU. Maybe a northern thing?

WH Henry, for Canada Day I will eat pancake with maple syrup and watch Strange Brew tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Webhamster Henry:

The Most Wanted Song makes a good companion to Sondheim's "I Am Unworthy Of Your Love". That's just been reissued on the Sondheim Disco Album project.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Webhamster Henry:

I think there used to be a note on the WFMU copy of "Most Unwanted Song" warning of the stretch of Elevator Music in it.
  12:31pm Cronbat:

Has this ever been performed live?
Avatar 12:33pm Mary Wing:

Hi Cronbat, good question! I bet it would be mentioned on Dave Soldier's website. Maybe Henry knows?
Avatar 12:34pm Sem:

As a radio copywriter, two or three times a year a client would come in with a creative idea, i.e., have his 4-year old read the spot. No amount of persuasion could deter them.
Wanted to drive ten penny nails into my ears everytime I heard it, which was all day 'cause the monitor in the office could not be turned off, and there was no volume control.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Webhamster Henry:

I don't think so ... we may have to put together a virtual Hoof-n-Mouth and do it ourselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Handy Haversack:

I think I mentioned on this board that I'm going to be the production editor for a book Dave Soldier is publishing on music and neurology?
Avatar 12:37pm Mary Wing:

DING DING DING, HENRY!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Webhamster Henry:

TV Tropes on this project: tvtropes.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Handy Haversack:

(Dibs on the Labor Day section! Dibs!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hey everybody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

Although I've had the album for years, I didn't immediately connect Dave Soldier who did the Thai Elephant Orchestra with the Soldier who did the 'Wanted/Unwanted' project.
Avatar 12:38pm Sem:

That was the worst 21:59 song I have heard today.
  12:38pm Dean:

Is Soldier's book about U2, Sting, and Bruce Springsteen? Cuz their music gets on my nerves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Ken From Hyde Park:

In a sense, we were all born on labor day.
Avatar 12:38pm Mary Wing:

What could possibly follow the Most Unwanted Song, I asked myself, and the answer came: Gerorge Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Webhamster Henry:

Dave's Day job is as a neuroscientist. Check out davesoldier.com for his many projects!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Handy Haversack:

Praying for more Most Unwanted Song!

(Also Kate wants me to mention she slept all night in a parking lot in eighth grade to get tickets to see GM.)
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

I can't wait to socially-distant high-five Kate, based on that one comment alone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm spodiodi:

hello hello, Mary Wing and 100%'rs \m/
Avatar 12:42pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

damm Mary, I love that song by GM and I didn't know I needed it so much today
Avatar 12:43pm Mary Wing:

Hullo spodiodi and Sylvia! i can't believe Praying For Time is 30 years old!
Avatar 12:50pm Sem:

Spod'di, all good w/ you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm coelacanth∅:

good afternoon, or whatever, Mary & 100%ers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

Mary: she wants you to know she still considers it totally worth it!
Avatar 12:53pm Mary Wing:

Hi there coleacanth! Happy July 1st!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm spodiodi:

hola Sem, can't complain... had a small walk to check on my car (was nice to get out; got to hear a little more of Ken's show than usual.) weather is great here -- headphones on to mask some construction noise. in the 100% Whatever zone, so ultimately, life s good! how are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Rich in Washington:

Hey there, coelacanth∅!
Hi spodiodi!
Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Webhamster Henry:

The Most Wanteds/Unwanteds should have been 2020 Census questions.
Avatar 1:05pm Mary Wing:

Word, Henry.
Avatar 1:08pm Sem:

Garden lush, temperatures sky high, well-fed, sound body and mind most days. Bliss. Or something akin, Spodi'di.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Handy Haversack:

This is exciting! The Roches are Kate's favorite.
Avatar 1:09pm david w:

Mary! And hello all!
Avatar 1:10pm Mary Wing:

Hello David, rabbit rabbit!
  1:11pm David in London:

Hello Groovers! All Hail Mary Wing.

David London, greets from New Scotland.
Avatar 1:15pm Mary Wing:

Good evening David in London! How's summer shaping up over the pond?
Avatar 1:15pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

indeed, Hello DIL, Mary, and wingers, from a grey-ish corner of France
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy
Avatar 1:21pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, David, Phillippe!
Avatar 1:23pm Roberto:

This might be my favorite alternative-ish Clash song.
  1:23pm David in London:

All good here Mary, been reporting some plants in the garden. And listening to you of course.
Hey Phillippe!
Avatar 1:25pm Mary Wing:

Hi Roberto! What's your opinion of Sandinista? Too much pretentious filler, or packed to the gills with quality?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm spodiodi:

sounds really nice, Sem
aloha David, coel, Handy, Phillippe, Sylvia, Webhamster Henry, chresti, Franco, wr, Brian, Roberto, KenFHP, Really Lisa, anyone else i may have missed

Eye hart Sandinista
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm spodiodi:

david w too (d'oh)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Handy Haversack:

I heart that Mary plays stuff off Sandinista!

Hey, spod!
Avatar 1:27pm Franco Twinkie:

When I was in junior high school, a friend took me aside and told me and told me I looked like a surfer, and if I knew what was good for me I should start dressing like a Mexican.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm spodiodi:

yeah me too on Sandinista!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Handy Haversack:

Carlos don't surf either, Franco?
Avatar 1:28pm Mary Wing:

Olé, Franco!
Avatar 1:28pm Roberto:

Random Roberto fact: for some inexplicable reason, the first time I heard "Somebody Got Murdered" on the radio, I thought it was Springsteen.
Avatar 1:29pm Mary Wing:

That must have been a very staticy radio transmission, Roberto, heh!
Avatar 1:29pm Sem:

Good title for an HBO series.
Avatar 1:29pm Franco Twinkie:

I'm not sure Handy, ask him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm spodiodi:

begs the q, Franco, was it a person who identified as a surfer or a mexican who told you as much?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm spodiodi:

or maybe neither, eh?
Avatar 1:32pm Roberto:

It might have had something to do with the fact that Sandinista and The River hit the airwaves around the same time. It seemed like everything on rock radio at the time was off one or the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm spodiodi:

blast it, Mary Wing. almost enjoy this rickroll
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Handy Haversack:

Gotta make a supply run. Back soon!
Avatar 1:33pm Mary Wing:

I guess I can see that happening, Roberto. The 80s were like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm spodiodi:

too early to dance. stop, legs! be safe, Handy
  1:34pm Dean:

The very best rendition of Rick's tune is the one with the abundance of ultra-high-frequency top notes.
Avatar 1:34pm Mary Wing:

I'm chair dancing.
Avatar 1:35pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Dean! Which one is that, do you remember? I hope someone does a mashup with Rick vs. the screaming goat, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm spodiodi:

catchy tune, Sneaks
Avatar 1:41pm Roberto:

In my defense, as I recall, it was very late at night when I heard it and I was already half asleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm coelacanth∅:

Mary @1.25 hearing someone call sandinista! pretentious would make knowing whether or not they had anything of any substance to add to a conversation easy
Avatar 1:42pm Franco Twinkie:

Spodiodi, the guy in question was a real Mexican, born there. Where is I am a Pocho, which made me suspect.
  1:42pm Dean:

Dang, I can't find the one that had me laughing so hard I cried. There are a bunch of half-hearted attempts at the same joke, but none as over-the-top as that earlier one. Gimme a second...
Avatar 1:44pm Mary Wing:

True, coleacanth; but let us not hate on those who are not as enlightened; at least, not to their face, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm spodiodi:

thanks, Franco (... and for teaching me a new term)
  1:47pm Dean:

Vanished. Wow, worse than Covid-19.
Avatar 1:47pm Really Lisa!:

@spodiodi 1:25, thanks for the aloha, delayed back atcha, was on a meeting so had to look away from this browser.
Avatar 1:49pm Roberto:

The last time I gave Sandy! a complete listen was a few years ago while on vacation. I had the same reaction I have pretty much every time I listen to it in its entirety: is all this crap really on there? (It's a good thing.)
  1:51pm Dean:

Hemlock Tavern is no more, alas. Heard The Ruins and Flying Luttenbachers there.
Avatar 1:53pm Mary Wing:

I'm surprised that it was still standing after this performance, heh.
  1:55pm Dean:

Your premise that it ever stood at all might be wanting. It was a pretty ramshackle joint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Ike:

I sure hope today's 3OAK isn't "You Don't Own Me".
Avatar 2:03pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ike, nope! But whatcha got against that tune?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm fred:

Hello Mary and all
I'm partial to Sandinista! for personal historical reasons. Mostly killer, some filler, but since nobody agrees which is which, I'd say quality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm coelacanth∅:

Mary @1.44
...i know people who are not enlightened.
myself, for instants.
some of my best friends are not enlightened!
it's not about knowledge or enlightenment, but "pretentious" is a popular catchphrase for folks who live in a small bubble of experience and somehow are also arrogant.
(at least that's what i see)
Avatar 2:05pm Roberto:

It seems Mary missed Michele's show yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Ike:

Michele did it yesterday, that's all. It was... a lot.
Avatar 2:05pm Mary Wing:

Salut fred! Yeah, nobody can agree on which tracks they would eliminate to make it a double album, go figure.
  2:05pm David in London:

Last summer I arranged to meet my friend Bert outside Ladbroke Grove tube, to then go for a drink. Just as I came out of the station on a perfect early summer evening, in the shadow of the Westway, Mick Jones walked past. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
  2:07pm Dean:

Sandy Pearlman, who produced the band's second album, dedicated "Safe European Home" to me, "the world's biggest Clash fan," on SoCal radio back then. I have never heard Sandinista!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm spodiodi:

hah coel
aloha fred and Ike
Avatar 2:07pm Mary Wing:

Did you yell "I'm not down!" to Mick, David?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm spodiodi:

and Dean! aloha late
  2:07pm Dean:

Aloha, spodiodi!
Avatar 2:08pm Roberto:

How does one exclamate Sandinista!? Would it be written "Sandinista!!?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm spodiodi:

and aloha, Blondie! ltns
  2:08pm Dean:

Debby's birthday today.
  2:09pm David in London:

Mary, no sadly I didn’t. He was looking very dapper though and I gave him a doff of my hat, even though he didn’t see it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm coelacanth∅:

the thing is, you could say many unfavourable things about sandinista!.
"lots of filler"; "rushed production"; "substandard compositions"...none are my opinion, but could be a valid argument i suppose. "pretentious" is just for people who don't get what they were going for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Michael 98145:

Ah, yes. Happy July.
Avatar 2:09pm Roberto:

Holy hell she's 75 today. Well that went by fast.
Avatar 2:09pm Mary Wing:

Michele's show has a lot more feelings going on than my show, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm coelacanth∅:

hey spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm spodiodi:

what's good, coel?
Avatar 2:11pm Roberto:

I think the historical context of Sandinista! makes it more delicious -- as an immediate follow-up to one of the most successful "alternative" albums of all time.
Avatar 2:12pm Mary Wing:

Saying people who don't get what they were going for is sort of pretentious too, no? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm fred:

40 years ago? I'm so old
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm coelacanth∅:

i thought sandinista! was a giant step up from london calling
Avatar 2:13pm Mary Wing:

I love this guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm coelacanth∅:

Haha Mary! after i posted that i almost posted
"or am i just being pretentious"!
Avatar 2:14pm Roberto:

It's funny to think how when this song was a massive hit, 15-year-old boys like me were fanstasizing about a 35-year-old.
Avatar 2:15pm Mary Wing:

<3 coelacanth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm coelacanth∅:

(but then, no -it's not. assuming maybe but not pretentious)
  2:17pm David in London:

Pretentious is one of those accusations that often says as much about the accuser as the accused.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm coelacanth∅:

rapture was one reason why when friends exclaimed "disco sucks!" i usually said well not all of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Michael 98145:

hey, i used to think Petula Clark was my age ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm spodiodi:

i don't think anyone buys it when i try to be pretentious :-B

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Michael 98145:

i can tell this is gonna be a strange ride
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Michael 98145:

( i was always the oldest guy in a club)
Avatar 2:19pm Roberto:

I would definitely be the oldest guy in a club now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Howdy, Mary!
Avatar 2:20pm Mary Wing:

Hey there S&M&S! What's your opinion of Sandinista?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Phillippe Bastille:

Sorry, been on the phone. Late "Hi backs" to Mary, DiL, Handy, Spodiodi and others I may have missed. (...and back onto the phone I go...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm coelacanth∅:

hey Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm spodiodi:

what kind of car is most delicious?
  2:22pm David in London:

Spodiodi, not true. I always fall for your pretentious act. Doh.
Avatar 2:22pm Roberto:

Who remembers the parody Crapture from Dr. Demento? I think I know those lyrics better than the original.
Avatar 2:22pm Mary Wing:

A cherry red Corvette.
Avatar 2:23pm Franco Twinkie:

Oh yeah, been the oldest guy in the club. It only mattered if you were on the prowl, otherwise not so much.
Avatar 2:23pm Roberto:

Fab Five Freddy told me chicken's gonna fry
My hair is thin and I say, why why?
  2:23pm Dean:

General Motors Lasagna al Forno
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm fred:

Does Micah have a Xian cover of Rapture? The title alone should inspire some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Michael 98145:

guess i'd be left behind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm coelacanth∅:

oh, Mary. corvettes re pretentious! especially cherry red ones!
Avatar 2:24pm βrian:

Leaving only their shoes behind, upwards they swept into the rapture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm chresti:

Haha Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm spodiodi:

DiL, I can't be concerned with all of the little people who don't understand my depth, sorry

it's hard to top the taste of American fiberglass cars
  2:27pm David in London:

Mmm, AC Cobra for proper delicious American heavy metal (don’t mention you know who...) or an E-Type Jaguar for a delicious Swinging London afternoon tea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm coelacanth∅:

Franco being the oldest or one of the 2-3 oldest guys in the club offers some potentially lovely benefits; but yeah not if you're prowling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm spodiodi:

there was a super old guy who came out to the clubs regularly in Charlotte in the early 90s, complete with old man suit and old man hat... not shy at all. inspirational
Avatar 2:30pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel,I know! like having someone offer you their chair because you look like you're in pain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm spodiodi:

little old italian cars are nice in the summer, on the beach
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm spodiodi:

ha Franco :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm fred:

Being one of oldest guys in the club while wearing a WFMU T-shirt has the latter sometimes getting me a nod from a band or its crew, which gives me instant and undeserved cred. But not a free beer, alas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm coelacanth∅:

David both solid contenders (the xke was my dream car when i was a tot)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Handy Haversack:

I forgot I can't hear GTDR when putting away the supplies. Sigh.
Avatar 2:33pm Sem:

So, it seems the Rapture has arrived. Nice exclusive, Mary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm spodiodi:

i had a pedal-powered jag convertible in red when i was 4-5 \m/
Avatar 2:34pm Mary Wing:

Good thing I showered this morning; wouldn't want to spend the afterlife smelling grody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

Franco haha i was thinking in terms of conversation and occasionally having drinks bought. i almost always stand
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Michael 98145:

it is best to stay mobile
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Handy Haversack:

(Also, David @2:17: "An' then Bill, 'e says, 'Pretentious? Moi?!'!")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm coelacanth∅:

(i do park at the bar, but i leave the chairs for others. in fact i keep them out of my space)
Avatar 2:37pm Mary Wing:

Heh. What's that from, Handy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Handy Haversack:

@Mary: Fawlty Towers.
Avatar 2:38pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Michael 98145:

robot dance party!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm fred:

Is there a steel drum version? There should be
Avatar 2:40pm Mary Wing:

Couldn't find one, sadly. Believe me, fred, I looked!
Avatar 2:41pm Sem:

How about a steel bridge version? The Golden Gate is looking for new repertoire:
“Engineers designed new sides for the sidewalk to help with wind resistance but didn’t take into account the EXTREME sound it creates when wind passes through it. The Golden Gate sings crazy songs now it’s so trippy. It hurts the ears and unbearable it’s that loud.”
  2:41pm David in London:

Or Fatty Owls.
Avatar 2:41pm Roberto:

Sadly, Mr. Pretentious, Moi? recently passed away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm fred:

@Mary: someday you'll just have to convene your own steel drum band to fill all those gaps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Handy Haversack:

I didn't know that, Roberto.

Also, good review of KennyG's new book (which I worked on with him). If anyone sees People Like Us on the boards, maybe point her to it?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm fred:

@Handy: Is it out yet? I'm going back to work tomorrow, I hope my favorite bookshop survived
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Sorry, late to reply - yes, love Sandinista!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm spodiodi:

Sem @ 2:41 -- those bridge noises are real, and made me wonder WTF, first I heard them some weeks ago (guessing a day before the report linked) -- haven't heard them much since, if at all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm spodiodi:

EXTREME is no understatement
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Handy Haversack:

@fred: We accelerated things and got it done way before the pub date. So it is *certainly* available for ordering; whether the bookstores already have it on the shelves is a slightly different question, but your bookstore could definitely order it from the press or through their distributor. Bookstores the preordered it should have copies by now.
  2:48pm Dean:

That Kenny G book looks terrific!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm spodiodi:

quoted* not linked
Avatar 2:49pm Sem:

Yes, thx for that link, HH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Handy Haversack:

^ bookstores *that preordered
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm spodiodi:

great 3OAK B^)
Avatar 2:50pm Sem:

The Golden Gate was pretty quiet, as I recall. Used to live on the 700 block of Sutter. Back and forth to Marin often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Handy Haversack:

Of all the books I have worked on over 18 years in publishing, KennyG's is one of my very favorites!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm spodiodi:

thanks for another 100% Whatever, Mary Wing! as a very important person with taste, i give it an A++
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm spodiodi:

Sem, I don't remember ever hearing anything until those wind guards!
Avatar 2:55pm david w:

Wonderful. Thanks, Mary!
Avatar 2:55pm Sem:

HIt the spot, Mary. Refreshed for the rest of the day. 3OAK is just OK with me.
  2:55pm David in London:

I pretentiously second spodiodi’s comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Webhamster Henry:

I saw that Kenny G had a new book coming out!
