looking back on it.. while I enjoy the Shiny Toy Guns song "Ghost Town" a bit.. the 2009 charts were not as keen on that song.

  6:10pm BH:

STG's "Ghost Town" (which wasn't a cover of the Specials) had a very "driving fast in the dark" feel to it. If that makes any sort of sense. #MusicReviews

Goldmine- all the great elements but not very good story telling - not bad but not as good as one would hope

I saw him speak years ago - I couldn't agree more!
Avatar 6:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good observe maybe.
I really liked 'I'm Not There' - maybe made more sense for a bunch of impressions...
Feel that for decades & decades Hollywood didn't entirely 'get' Rawk : Haynes may not be Hollywood exactly - but a filmmaker I felt *does* get Rawk - if not exactly as I do.

No need to explain if you enjoy something Bill Cosby did in his past. I love I Spy. There's no sin in that! @Therese
Avatar 7:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cosby was a real Music booster.
Part of what makes him being a sociopath so - adjective of choice...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Revolution Rabbit Nov63: unfortunately, most of the sociopaths i've known have also been helpful contributors to the communities they harmed :(
  7:12pm Jett:

True, Cosby really helped out a lot of great musicians.
  7:13pm Jett:

There is much truth to that Granny, but you can't deny the positive things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

ah, i wouldn't deny the positive things, however they don't make up for the damage
Avatar 7:14pm Joe B:

@Granny - yup, and they also are forever tainted
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Therese:

Seriously! It's so much worse when someone who used their powers for good in other areas is revealed as a monster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

it's very heartbreaking, and makes it very confusing for the survivors
  7:15pm Jett:

A great example of what we're talking about is Phil Spector. You can't deny the guy's brilliance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

it also makes it hard for people to believe the survivors
  7:16pm Jett:

You're absolutely right Therese, but, if I liked something in the past. I'm not just going to completely shut off what I like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i admit i struggle to separate the art from the artist—this celebrity worship culture makes it even harder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Tome:

so nice Doob Doob Doobie Doo Doo hey Therese !<>! lovin' it !<>!
  7:19pm wfmu listener phillip:

was only 1 film with "the coz" in it I liked " mother juggs and speed" a very funny comedy drama.
Avatar 7:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Spector was always on shaky ground - & liked guns too much.
Cosby came off all self-righteous - & was a serial drug rapist for decades - & denies it to this day - trying to defame victims - didn't kill anyone - but more nefarious just yuck. I feel sorry for Spector. Not Cosby - tho' I don't know what's behind his patholgy - racism, hard upbringing - no idea !! The Abuser is most often the Abused, say the experts... It's a good point tho' that the Arsonist is often the one calling the Fire Department... Like Richard Priyor's widow said Cosby was all self-righteous about naughty comedians - & now look...
  7:20pm Christopher Lynardakis:

That was so nice!
  7:22pm Jett:

@Granny I've become pretty good at separating the art from the individual. If I was unable to do that, I might dislike a lot of artists that I enjoy.
Avatar 7:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I mean longterm serial drug rapist - that's Stephen King sh*t or something... W/ Michael Jackson - also a huge talent - & a titanic gaslighter - I have a theory about his father & the roots of it...Cosby I have no idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Jett: i'm working on it—got any tips?
Avatar 7:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

All kinds of things can drive Creativity, Unfortunately - one of them may be Pathology. Even a need to cover it up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm mariano:

Heya Therese and crew, folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Therese:

And often those around the artist with a financial stake in their success will ignore or worse, enable, their behavior.
  7:27pm K in Chicago:

I got my swag! I got a super sweet blue tee shirt and the Hearty White premium. I couldn't be happier. Thank you!
  7:28pm P-90:

“Let’s Do It Again”, directed by Sidney Poitier. The “non-sequel” to Poitier’s previous feature “Uptown Saturday Night”, which was made with much of the same crew and with much of the same cast (Poitier, Cosby, JJ Walker)
  7:28pm Jett:

@Granny I just decided long ago, to separate the art from the person. I began to realize if I didn't do that I couldn't watch Woody Allen movies for example, which I really enjoy. Just as an example. Did those films I loved all of a sudden become garbage because the guy is an a**hole? It's hard, but I made that realization long ago.
Avatar 7:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Like MJ's father drove those kids from infancy. So that's foundational to the problem.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

As a person who has survived abuse by beloved creative heroes, it is extremely painful to sit there silently while everyone worships or apologizes for the abuser
  7:29pm wfmu listener phillip:

Avatar 7:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's an issue if you are supporting the morally bad Artist. Financially or yeah otherwise.

Hey, Therese, if you're on the gravy train a lot of people will overlook a lot. Bottom line, in the end, God will sort them out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

  7:31pm P-90:

Penguin published the Action Park book? How tony and upscale is that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm chresti:

Abusers forfeit any glory or honor they otherwise may of deserved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm medson:

How can you not love a theme park where it seems the rides were designed by people who knew nothing about physics and geometry HAHA. Loved it there
  7:32pm Jett:

@K in Chicago, You didn't already realize that Therese is pure magic? She's absolutely amazing.
Avatar 7:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I don't ask that Creatives be role models.
I don't want to *support* sh*ttiness in the world tho'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Therese:

@Granny- I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you've been able to find an outlet for the pain. Sending love your way...
  7:32pm K in Chicago:

Granny, I am truly sorry to hear that you have been through that. There is no excusing abusers. For some people who have made mistakes, it's different, but for people with a pattern of abuse over their whole lives, who would never want to make amends, there's no "separating the art from the artist". If you can do that, it's shitty art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Therese: thanks, i've been finding my way. Speaking up helps a lot. I see the changes happening in the general discussion, and that's encouraging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Therese:

@KenFHP, @medson and @P-90: Rest assured, we WILL discuss the Cannonball Loop.
  7:34pm Jett:

I make no apologies for these pieces of crap. Would never defend them in any way, but if I liked their art, I just can't turn that off like a faucet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

K in Chicago: yeah, it's just hard to be exposed to anything associated with abusers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Jett: i hear you.
  7:35pm Jett:

Much love to you, and prayers for your piece of mind. @Granny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Jett: and thanks <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Therese:

@Grannny: that is good to hear. I'm hopeful that, as shitty a year as 2020 has been, it's the turning point toward a better world.

Even Gollum was almost redeem.
But - he wasn't.
It is said none of us are what we are @ our worst.
But there's too much victim shaming. & f*ck that sh*t!
& too much idolatry. Yeah, you're right.
Of course - I think there are more & more Creatives who want the best & to express from a true Source.
Otoh - it's shocking how many bad news are being exposed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm medson:

@therese can’t wait to hear all about it.
Avatar 7:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I suppose that's true in Society generally - & some of them happen to be Artists. Perhaps it's that simple. Washington had slaves. This is reality!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Revolution Rabbit Nov63: yeah, why do we protect the abusers over the survivors? That's what needs to change. I'm all for amends and redemption, where possible.
  7:39pm Carmichael:

I already heard about it, medson. It ends gloriously!
Avatar 7:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Look @ the Catholic Church.
Avatar 7:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

If the Abuser was the Abused - it's about ending the cycle.
I see Justice as a lot like Medicine: If something is endangering the rest of the body, if may have to be 'surgically' removed. But removing is not the cure for the source... Where does it come from??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm spodiodi:

Lazy Salon sounded great
Avatar 7:42pm RobinSays:

I remember the Action Park TV commercials. There were musical performances there. "Action Park is better than Broadway!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Therese:

@RobinSays: it definitely was not. And that Broadway stage was later taken over by raccoons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Therese:

or possibly skunks? Maybe both. It was definitely abandoned to the elements for a good long time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm chresti:

Therese,@7:36- 2020, hopefully the bettering trend will prevail.
Avatar 7:49pm RobinSays:

Well, maybe the antics of the raccoons and/or squirrels could be entertaining? :) Didn't Steve Albini's band Shellac have an album called Live At Action Park?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm listener 126464:

action park- wear an old pair of sneakers, or better, work boots
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Therese:

@RobinSays- They sure did! Though as far as I can tell, it has nothing do to with THE Action Park...
Avatar 7:52pm RobinSays:

Yeah, I figure that was just Albini being antic. The Action Park book sounds like quite a read.
  7:53pm Carmichael:

Thanks, Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm spodiodi:

thanks, Therese!
  7:54pm K in Chicago:

Holy jesus, from the wikipedia page: "The park entertained over one million visitors per year during the 1980s, with as many as 12,000 coming on some of the busiest weekends.[3] Park officials said this made the injury and death rate statistically insignificant. Nevertheless, the director of the emergency room at a nearby hospital said they treated from five to ten victims of park accidents on some of the busiest days, and the park eventually bought the township of Vernon extra ambulances to keep up with the volume.[3]"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm chresti:

Thanks Therese! I must investigate the Action Park you speak of.
  7:56pm K in Chicago:

"Don't worry kids we may not know anything about engineering or physics, but we had our crack team of actuaries run the numbers, and we're happy to assure you that the injury and death rate at our park is statistically insignificant"
