Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Jim the Poet:

Take me in your hand, Mr. Giant Man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm chresti:

Hi Fabio and strong ones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm WoodsOfNH:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm mariano:

Hello Fabio and crew, fellow failure addicts. Know what I miss? Fabio and Clay's banter at the end of Fab's show when Clay's show was right after.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Itzall Hear:

Hi Fabio,
Thanks for doing this for us, all best in safety and health!
Avatar 3:12pm spodiodi:

  3:13pm wfmu listener phillip:

Avatar 3:13pm duke:

Hello Failures
It's not really Wednesday afternoon without Irwin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm brainiac:

@mariano: Yep, me too. Those two have chemistry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Ike:

I miss when there was no safe drinking water and so everybody had to drink mead.
Avatar 3:15pm spodiodi:

i'm never up early/late enough to hear Clay's WaB morning show. also really miss his field recordings/interviews on the street too (and that Dusty show voice)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Chop Scott:

Sounding solid Fabio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm brainiac:

But, it must be pointed out that as long as we have Fabio on Thursdays, we are very lucky indeedy.
  3:17pm Brendan:

Sounds like a worn brake pad scraping the rotor run through the How Soon Is Now mix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm coelacanth∅:

right no missing mentioned that outweighs the good fortune of having Fabio's 3-hour show each week. 3 FULL hours of Fabio each week (!)
Avatar 3:18pm spodiodi:

hah Brendan (and it sounds perfect, eh?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm brainiac:

Wait, it IS Thursday today, right?
  3:19pm Brendan:

@spodiodi, indeed
Avatar 3:19pm spodiodi:

  3:21pm David in London:

Party time in ordinarily sized person’s land. Evening Fabio.
Hello you cast of groovemongeous souls: Handy, Mariano, brainiac, Rev, TDK, spodiodi et al.
  3:22pm Marcel M:

Yo Fabio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm brainiac:

David, I don't mean to embarrass you, but you've forgotten your parens again.
  3:22pm wfmu listener phillip:

Fabio takes a schedule off I'll jump off a bridge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm coelacanth∅:

David i'd be willing to bet you'd be of extraordinary size to a pygmy marmoset
  3:23pm wfmu listener phillip:

I NEED my fabio every Thursday 3-6
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Handy Haversack:

He's owning his in-London-ness, brainiac. No more hiding behind orthography!
  3:25pm David in London:

Brainiac. Ha ha! Oh, yes, it’s a long and tedious story, but I found myself with a non-unique listener name. The workaround is that when I listen signed in via the website, I come with parentheses. However, when listening via the app, I am unclothed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm brainiac:

Just layin' out there for all to see. Right on.
  3:26pm wfmu listener phillip:

really missing IRWIN. KEN and Irwin & SSD and Evan "funk" Davies really made wednesday rock.
  3:26pm David in London:

Coela, funnily enough there’s one in the living room. I asked it and, yes, you’re right. It thinks I’m pretty tall.
Avatar 3:27pm TDK60:

Anyone heard about that Saharan dust storm hitting Mexico and the US South?
Avatar 3:28pm spodiodi:

hear ya phillip
  3:29pm wfmu listener phillip:

anyone hear 7 sec delay yesterday. andy should have helped out that homeless girl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm chresti:

TDK60, no, only about microplastics in the air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm coelacanth∅:

David (iL, @3.25) i think it's legal on your own property
Avatar 3:31pm khd:

@tdk60 yeah, the shots of it from space are pretty wild
Avatar 3:31pm TDK60:

I'd never heard of such Chresti. Apparently it's much bigger than usual.
Avatar 3:32pm khd:

all y'all on the east coast should be aware, increased particulates in the air that aggravate the lungs are potentially more vulnerable to the virus - hurray
Avatar 3:32pm khd:

"make you more vulnerable"
Avatar 3:33pm spodiodi:

i've got my scuba gear on just in case
Avatar 3:33pm TDK60:

I'll wear a mask.
  3:34pm Shane Braindrain:

Greetings Fabio and fellow followers of failure - it’s a lovely summer evening here in North East England, lover the Tim Hecker track.
  3:34pm David in London:

These days it’s all about the kraut-sourcing...
That was a genuine Jaki Leibezeit joke. Better when he did it.
Avatar 3:34pm khd:

i'll wear a trout mask replica
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm coelacanth∅:

i'm unhappy to be working inside today - but maybe it's for the better
Avatar 3:36pm spodiodi:

too hot, plastic-y or, sahara-ish?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

a trout mask replica might have even more room inside for herbs and such than a plague mask replica
Avatar 3:36pm spodiodi:

btw coel, are you a Capricorn?
Avatar 3:36pm TDK60:

Haha David in Londonhamlet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm chresti:

Gallows humor is my kind of humor.@Fabio
Avatar 3:38pm TDK60:

Hi Shane in the far north. Yeah, Tim Hecker is a fave.
  3:39pm flashbazbo:

Is this the day I am living in?
  3:39pm David in London:

This is making me feel like I’m in a John Carpenter movie. That’s mostly a good thing. Mostly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm brainiac:

CONFORM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm chresti:

Haha coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm coelacanth∅:

spodi, no. wasn't born in the year of the sheep either. (that's a sheep)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm mrdonutsu:

Oooh, this is very Spiritualized Men 3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm mrdonutsu:

And that's a good thing!
Avatar 3:43pm spodiodi:

ah, i knew that was a sheep -- forgot... d'oh
Metal Pig here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Handy Haversack:

Back in a few ...
  3:45pm David in London:

Handy, come back after a few...
Avatar 3:47pm TDK60:

Fabio, you said that Cologne comp is only on LP? Is it in the WFMU library? Hope to hear more unearthed German outrock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Carmichael:

Heya Fabio and fantabulous failures. Having just partaken of my luncheon, I shall listen smiling and sated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm coelacanth∅:

spodi, metal rat here -by the hair on my chinny chin chin
Avatar 3:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Fabio, you didn't put the crazy glue on your tooth, did you?
Avatar 3:55pm spodiodi:

\m/ metal zodiac animals ftw \m/

hi Franco
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Handy Haversack:

I like the way you think, David! That pygmy marmoset has been a good influence!
Avatar 3:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

marmoset
Avatar 3:56pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey Spo'
Avatar 3:56pm spodiodi:

Franco, been meaning to mention, we loved watching Franco Twinkie Speaks his mind here! f'n great!
Avatar 3:58pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks! An unsuspecting shopper provided me with this weeks topic this morning.
Avatar 3:59pm spodiodi:

can hardly wait :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm chresti:

I'm a fire rooster.
  4:02pm David in London:

Handy, I’ve got one on each shoulder, and they speak of temperance and indulgence alternately.
Avatar 4:02pm spodiodi:

flame on!
Avatar 4:03pm spodiodi:

haha DiL
  4:03pm wfmu listener phillip:

this pasta they gave me in the emergency covid 19 food box it's delicious! I cannot wait to eat it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm brainiac:

OK, after "Twinkie Speaks" I'm now realizing that that I've been picturing Chresti as Franco in my mind's eye all this time. Are you two brothers?
  4:07pm nic:

love it!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm chresti:

We are cohabiters, brainiac, not related.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Handy Haversack:

Also legal in your own home, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm brainiac:

Thank you for the clarification, chresti. I will picture a pair of fire roosters from now on.
  4:12pm glue_horizon:

Thanks for the movie recommendations Fab!
Avatar 4:13pm Hubig Pie:

I love that movie. Spaghetti served with risotto with a side of mashed potatoes. The lady likes her starch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Switchblade Batman:

I remember Big Night, that was good movie. Tony Shaloub was great in it.
  4:13pm nic:

i love that film!!!
Avatar 4:14pm Franco Twinkie:

I've always wanted to make that pasta drum thing that I seem to remember was the main course on the big night in question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Jessie:

I just DVR'd that movie. Will have to watch it this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Mick:

Allison Janney, Isabella Rossellini also in Big Night. Don't watch it if you're hungry - you'll lose your mind
Avatar 4:15pm spodiodi:

when i think Franco and chresti, the cat and lizard masked photo comes to mind first
  4:15pm flashbazbo:

So many great Malle flicks. I don’t know a bad one c
Avatar 4:15pm Franco Twinkie:

Jesssie, make sure you eat first or you'll be pulling your hair out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm chresti:

Franco is a wood goat.
Avatar 4:16pm uuee:

The Big Night...my friend's photo studio was used for the exterior shots, Main St., Keyport NJ. The interior shots were at a sound stage in Brooklyn. Took a month to create the exterior facade.
  4:17pm David in London:

I love the hearty German couple in the Merc in Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud. And that track Generique on the soundtrack is five minutes that fell directly from Heaven.
Avatar 4:18pm βrian:

Re Big Night, my spouse and I still make use of that particular phrase to convey that one's cooking is beyond excellent:

"I should kill you!"
Avatar 4:20pm Chris from DC:

This Jelinek thing is just perfect right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm chresti:

But, yes, lizard is Franco's spirit animal @spodi
Avatar 4:21pm spodiodi:

βrian, that's great :D
Avatar 4:29pm spodiodi:

very cool, chresti
Avatar 4:30pm spodiodi:

my spirit animal is Lux Interior
Avatar 4:32pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

ORSI/COSI wheeeeeeeeeee.......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm chresti:

Our friends who made the masks, figured that out.
haha Lux Interior, spodi.
Avatar 4:35pm Chris from DC:

Ok, yeah, this Orsi/Cosi is the goods.
Avatar 4:39pm spodiodi:

supercool masks, chresti. what good friends
Avatar 4:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Spo,' one of my favorite memories at a Cramps show is when someone threw a high heel shoe at Lux, and with perfect comic timing he picked it up, pored a beer into it, and with much flourish tipped it back and drank it, then threw it back into the audience!
Avatar 4:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

That track coulda gone for about five hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Kat in Chicago:

Lovely show today.
Avatar 4:41pm spodiodi:

Franco, that's sweet! trying to imagine :D thanks for sharing the story/memories (i love hearing about all your show memories, btw!)
Avatar 4:42pm spodiodi:

mine are all blury :-B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm chresti:

Same here, spodi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Bootsie:

Johnny Guitar is the BEST!!
  4:47pm sufferwords:

Saw In A Lonely Place for the first time- Bogart’s best and the always amazing Gloria Grahame... so great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Bootsie:

It's on Prime, too. Probably my fave Sterling Hayden flick. www.amazon.com...
  4:50pm nick:

Yeah but the soundtrack on Venus in furs is great!
  4:51pm sufferwords:

if you haven’t already The Warped Ones on TCM on demad
  4:52pm WM:

Fabio: I think the Bob Dylan song "The Mighty Quinn" refers to the Nicholas Ray movie Savage Innocence that stared Anthony Quinn as an eskimo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm mariano:

Oh there were some doozies from Europe in the 70s. When I was a kid in Honduras, apparently nobody had any sense of appropriateness, so they'd play trailers for the latest Emmanuelle/Venus in Furs-type movie, full-on nudity, right before family movies, theaters full of parents and their kids. Was kind of glorious actually.
  4:53pm flashbazbo:

I quite enjoyed “the libidinal rumplestiltskin”.
  4:54pm wfmu listener phillip:

I like it when fabio plays the numbers stations from the CONET Project
  4:56pm wfmu listener phillip:

will anyone figure out the lady repeating numbers 3 9 7 5 5. or the lady saying. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot over and over
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm mariano:

Something so soothing about radio noise. Plus isn't at least part of it literally the sound of the Big Bang, ie cosmic background radiation?
Avatar 5:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

ooh. this.
  5:05pm mrzero:

Amazing show. As usually. I live for Thursday.
Avatar 5:05pm dale:

ola fabio and fabinistas.

i was outside on a ladder and was yelling at the radio 'klingons say it's a good day to die!!' was that solved already?
Avatar 5:06pm dale:

there's a cuban numbers lady on shortwave. break out your hallicrafter's.
  5:07pm mrzero:

what frequency?
  5:07pm mrzero:

Irony aside, I do love shortwave. Most of it's gone now though.
Avatar 5:07pm dale:

don't know off hand. been about 6 months since i've tuned around....
Avatar 5:10pm dale:

google it and people post she's on 11435 and 11530 just for a couple. i heard er a few times and it was always during the day/afternoon.
  5:11pm David in London:

I like that numbers station which kicks off with The Lincolnshire Poacher. That has a good steady beat for decoding.
  5:14pm wfmu listener phillip:

I like the lady speaking NATO alphabet YANKEE HOREL FOXTROT. Then GROUP ONE...GROUP ONE
Avatar 5:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

and this.
Avatar 5:16pm spodiodi:

hi Dale, klingons, lakota sioux and a few others ;) i nearly mentioned those two but kept my fingers at bay until you mentioned :"
  5:16pm wfmu listener phillip:

I have a shortwave radio. but I dont think I'll get much reception here in the bronx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm chresti:

This Sleepy Time Jazz is nice.
  5:18pm egould310:

Repetitive sound collages sound so much more sophisticated “on Fronch”.
Avatar 5:18pm TDK60:

It's a tad eerie, Chresti.
  5:19pm mrzero:

wait until late at night and try putting up an external antenna. I used to do fine in downtown Brooklyn. But that was a while ago. Depends on your radio too I had a Grundig Satellite 700.
  5:20pm David in London:

I’m sitting in the living room with the lights off and the streetlights making film noir style wall shadows. This track is really setting the mood.
Avatar 5:21pm KenW:

Hey Brother, tuning in late, but I'm here, this is TREMENDOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 5:22pm dale:

philip - throw a long wire up and turn off all your led lights and pull all the wall warts and take a spin.,
Avatar 5:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Definitely late hours with the shortwave, external (wire) antenna that can be hung out a window or sumthin. If the radio is fancy enough to have SSB (single sideband) settings, even better.
Avatar 5:23pm dale:

mrzero - i have a satellit 700 too! and a bunch more.
Avatar 5:23pm dale:

the best time to listen to shortwave is during a power outage when the grid is quiet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm mariano:

David: The Lincolnshire Poacher, now there's a haunting little major-key melody. One of the things the stations were thought to be sending were numbers for so-called one-time pads, a theoretically unbreakable cypher (ie you need the key to decipher it, otherwise impossible).
  5:24pm mrzero:

Is your 700 still working?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Scott Williams:

FABIO! I miss you, man - good to be hearing you live today.
  5:25pm Sam:

Is this like an aural hunting kind of exposition?
Avatar 5:26pm chocolate monk:

'Above Tongues' is by Ross Scott-Buccleuch, Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson & Andrew Sharpley cheers for playng some Monk gunk, man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Ike:

I dig it, man. I dig it in spades. Go Fabio go!
  5:29pm mrzero:

dale: any recommendations on the current offerings in shortwave receivers?
  5:30pm mrzero:

dale: any recommendations on who can repair a Satellite 700? Some idiot fucked mine up while "repairing" it.
Avatar 5:30pm KenW:

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOWW!!!!
  5:31pm mrzero:

hey Fabio! thanks for being here!
  5:31pm egould310:

Sounds good on this end, Fabio!
Avatar 5:33pm dale:

i have a tecsun pl-365 that is almost pocket sized and it's a great travel/walk around radio.
Avatar 5:33pm dale:

any of the tecsuns are great. depends on how much you want to spend.
  5:35pm mrzero:

dale: thanks. I will check out the tecsuns. I saw one on-line that looked a lot like the old 700. I want to spend under $500, but it seems you can get one for a lot cheaper these days.
Avatar 5:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@dale, my Tecsun sibling. Model PL-880 here. It's adorable. Came with a brown fake-leather case, so it looks like a bible. Weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm common:

fabio! hello everyone
Avatar 5:36pm dale:

oh yeah, $150 will buy you a great radio.
Avatar 5:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I took mine to Denmark & recorded tons of material.

[cue mournful sigh re: the thought of air travel]
Avatar 5:38pm dale:

the 880 is a great radio. as i have a satellit 700 i never went that far up the food chain. i have a satellit 800 too. and two 800s new in sealed boxes i planned on selling (estate sale buys) but haven't gotten around to it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm mariano:

Oh sorry David, missed your greeting above, as usual I'm in the midst of a dozen different things.
Avatar 5:40pm dale:

i forgot the website but you can control and listen to a software defined radio in the netherlands - a lot of long wave radio too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm mariano:

dale: This is the one, and it's soooo addictive. websdr.ewi.utwente.nl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm mariano:

Hah, jinx dale!
Avatar 5:41pm spodiodi:

dale, i was going to ask if you could recommend such a place (i've noticed a couple in the past, but can't recall where.)
Thanks for the link!
  5:41pm David in London:

Mariano, s’OK man. It’s easy to lose things when you’re ducking in and out.
  5:41pm mrzero:

dale & Rev. Turnip Druid: thanks. I will check that one out too. I will look into the Satellite 800. Whoa. I will look for that radio in the netherlands. Not a lot of long wave in the ussa as far as I know. It was pretty big in Russia. and elsewhere
Avatar 5:41pm dale:

yup!

i read that as dan fogelberg fabs!
  5:43pm mrzero:

Mariano: Thanks. It appears the new url is: http://websdr.org/
Avatar 5:44pm dale:

when you pull that page up you see a spectrum, called a 'waterfall.' where the white lines are that's where a radio transmission is and you can drag the yellow pointy thing to that area and listen.
Avatar 5:46pm dale:

some of the devotional singing from the arab emirates is hypnotic.
  5:46pm mrzero:

Mariano: That site is amazing
  5:47pm mrzero:

Thanks for that link dale
Avatar 5:47pm TDK60:

Mariano, you showed us that site in Netherlands before; gotta give it a look.
  5:48pm Shane Braindrain:
