  12:48am
$mall ¢hange:

nice nice I miss a good absinthe. had this mint one from Berkeley that was the best some homemade ish
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am
sinner:

Ted Breaux, the god father of modern absinthe, lives in B'ham. He used to be a DJ and guitarist. Great Breaux quote: absinthe is like a fuzz pedal.
Avatar 12:56am
slugluv1313:

mmmmm absinthe
never had the real stuff
years ago a friend *claimed* to have brought some back with her (wormwood and all) while traveling through Europe, and it was still illegal here -- but i think even that turned out to be fake :(
  12:57am
$mall ¢hange:

ah nice! yeah used to get the real stuff thru some Rubulad peeps. rough. you def needed to pour over a sugar cube but was good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
sinner:

slug: there's really good wormwood absinthe in a lot of places in the US now.
  12:58am

Avatar 1:04am
slugluv1313:

@ sinner -- yes! first time i saw it, i was like -- wtf?!? when did this become legal?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am
sinner:

Maybe 10 years ago? You gotta read this article. Breaux went from repairing vintage tube amps to making award winning absinthe. bittersoutherner.com...
Avatar 1:09am
slugluv1313:

*somewhere* i have an art/history book about absinthe; i find the whole ritual of drinking it fascinating, and the spoons are beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am
sinner:

Barnaby Conrad's Absinthe: History in a Bottle. Has a Degas on the cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am
sinner:

Preach it, Steinski.
Avatar 1:22am
slugluv1313:

@ sinner -- yup! that looks like the book that i have!
gotta track down Breaux' absinthe!
he kinda reminds me of a friend of mine -- she concocts all sort of tinctures, oils, incenses, etc. based on "old" folkloric/astrological knowledge about plants, herbs, flowers -- and extremely detailed about the whole process
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am
Scott Williams:
