  3:35pm David in London:

Handy, I had to make another epic crosstown journey. Man, being on the Tube again was weird. Silver lining was being in Golders Green and visiting all the Jewish delis on the way back. Came home ladden with delicious goodies.
  3:38pm David in London:

I’m going to have Bury Me in Beer by Fuckface as the entrance music at my funeral.

This will do nicely.

err trolleys...STREETCARS
  3:42pm ami ad:

Supposed to leave town tomorrow for the first time in months, hitting the road to N.C. and back to N.Y.C. JobLess.
  3:44pm ami ad:

@Handy Haversack:2 weeks or so ago I took the subway,I got some NY prisoner made hand sanitizer there for free.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm mariano:

ultradamno: the New Orleans streetcars are the oldest continuously-operating streetcar/trolley system in the world (1835!). The ones that run on St. Charles Ave still have mahogany seats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm ultradamno:

Jon Oliver just had a piece about the scarcity of soap inside, so of course they're making them make subway hand sanitizer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm tokenware:

oh man this is so good
  3:49pm David in London:

Mariano, the world took a turn for the worse when it gave up on mahogany seating.
  3:50pm ami ad:

Yeah, the subway wasn't too clean and it was early, took the bus back across the Williburg bridge, was Not a comfortable ride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Handy Haversack:

Oh, right, I remember that, ami ad. Right around the time we had to go into Manhattan first and took the ferry and walked.

Been on the metro here three times since lockdown. Fun game, to go from street to train to other street without actually touching anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm ultradamno:

Dead cats don't bounce. Unless you have a trampoline.

Do they have a feline corpse trampoline?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Handy Haversack:

My kind of challenge, RTD!

ultradamno, a lot of the modern corpse trampolines, you can bounce lots of different kinds of corpses. They aren't as specialized.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm ultradamno:

Yeah, they all say that one size fits all stuff but then you get it home and try to put an armadillo in the air...
  4:07pm Earth Walker:

Dead puppies don’t come when you call
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm ultradamno:

Not "LA's" Wasted Youth, not to be confused.

so i've heard.
Avatar 4:10pm Chris from DC:

Haven't been on the Metro since the first half of March. Thinking seriously of opting out for good.
  4:11pm ami ad:

When I was younger we met to soldiers,we asked their names, one replied and than said the other has non,you don't call him he comes alone. What?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Handy Haversack:

What are the alternatives, Chris, for your daily routines?

Avatar 4:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

is there a sports?
  4:16pm ami ad:

Hope Creamo isn't in one of them subpar steel navy submarines.
Avatar 4:16pm Chris from DC:

@Handy, well that is a problem. Driving to work is a horror show, and if more people bail on Metro it may get worse. I suppose continuing to work at home to at least some degree is an option.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm ultradamno:

Screamin' Jay wanted to be baptized in wine...other end of the pole, I guess.

Avatar 4:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Not a bad idea, hynotoad (4:10)
It's been so long since riding it for regular work, a number of building projects on my route have gone from bare foundations to baby office-buildings. It's weird.
  4:19pm ami ad:

This Puff is for You.
  4:21pm ami ad:

Gallon Drunk!!!.A sure method to cope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm ultradamno:

That was the main reason, though I think there was a hair band Wasted Youth too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm ultradamno:

There's definitely at least three Wasted Youths on discogs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah ... I could take the ferry more, though it will definitely take longer and involve a bus, too.

But losing the subway cuts us off from SO MUCH of the city. We can get to the beaches for $2.75 -- when the ocean is open again.

Sigh.
  4:24pm Choggie:

Hey Jersey and NY folks havi g problems commuting: How hard is it to get where you wanna go sayyyy, roller skating 100 bloks a day on pavement? Does the terrain make it hard there, crappy streets etc., or are there laws against it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm ultradamno:

I don't know if there are any Youth Wastes, which would have been another way for them to go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm ultradamno:

...go.
Avatar 4:25pm Creamo Coyl:

This is really just a preamble, so stick with it.....
  4:25pm David in London:

Hey ami ad and Earth Walker.

Creamo, I’ve been a massive fan of Wasted Youth for yonks, but they are totally forgotten these days. 10 squillion bonus points to you for playing them.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Heavy Chevy:

  4:28pm Choggie:

My only reference for skate-friendly streets was San Francisco, all their efficient public transpo was above ground and cheap, when u wanted to skate you skated plus, only 7 square miles of city
  4:29pm ami ad:

@David in London:Cheers bud.I wasted some of my youth on pearl jam and nirvana, sorry.
  4:30pm Earth Walker:

Choggie. S.F. Was a great walking city
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Handy Haversack:

Choggie, it sounds super dangerous, given how many cyclists and even pedestrians are killed every year in NYC.

The mayor clearly is coming down on the side of cars. He's talking about making alternate-side parking rules applicable to a max of one day per side of the street. And pushing off the congestion pricing that was supposed to go into effect. Figured oil would win in the end!
  4:31pm ami ad:

@Chogie:Used to ride a bike in the city, felt like it was getting more dangerous after Mayor Dblock started his Vision Zero plan.I walk, mostly sit these days. JobLess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm ultradamno:

OK, the hair band I was thinking of was actually Girl (not to be confused with Girls or The Girls) who had an album called Wasted Youth...that's all good and clear now.
  4:32pm Earth Walker:

And cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge into the Marin county Head lands
  4:33pm ami ad:

@Handy Haversack:Yea,Mayor DeBlabla,helping those who own.
  4:33pm Earth Walker:

Hi David. I don’t usually tune in this hour. The music is to cool !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm ultradamno:

LA's Wasted Youth were up there with CH 3 for bands to point and laugh at.
  4:35pm ami ad:

Yeah, okay,a saxophones place is in a sexy 80's movie scene.Or in the basket.Yea.
  4:35pm David in London:

Ultradamno, there was a borderline hair metal band by the name Wasted Youth, too. Man, that caused much confusion for me in secondhand record shops back in the day. Luckily I always managed to figure it out before it was too late and never made a disastrous purchase. *puts on new album* “Hey wait a minute!”
  4:36pm Earth Walker:

Hi Handy. Was in the States last year
Took the 69th street ferry Bay Ridge to by Brooklyn bridge into lower Manhattan. Very Nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm ultradamno:

I remember the UK band at the time though. I think Subterranean always had them in the catalogs.
  4:38pm Choggie:

Lived up on Jackson @ Jones, two blocks down and a bus to all cardinal points, cable car a half block down to the wharf or downtown...back when rent was under a grand for a 2 bedroom
  4:38pm ami ad:

Seeing pics/vids of other countries disinfecting cities and here they don't even clean the streets no more.We live in such a progressive state..................................
  4:38pm 21 century man:

This earthbound live needs a remix & better sound quality.Love K.C.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Handy Haversack:

It's a super pleasant way to see the city and get around, EW. Also WILDLY inefficient, pollution-heavy, and disturbing to the river bed and wildlife (not to mention us innocent human-powered-boat enthusiasts). The ferry co. cheaps out on labor, so rather than tying up at the docks, the boats use their engine to press up against the landing. This wastes tons of fuel and creates a strong backwash that affects the riverbed and fish (and waterfowl and shoreline). And the fuel needed to power one 88-person-capacity ferry far outweighs what it takes to move an entire subway car. Mostly the ferry is a tourist mover -- and a sop to the waterfront gentrifiers.

It's undeniably pleasant. It just comes with a lot of problems.

Also, city and state were *heavily* subsidizing it, which is why new routes and stations proliferated so wildly. If that is cut back (as it is right now), not sure what will happen to the service.

Sorry -- it's a hangup of mine since I'm a river person.

Speaking of which, I am heading for the river in a few minutes. Thanks, Creamo! Thanks, Skeleshele!

Great, great show today, Creamo!

Be well, all.

No, not zat Eraserhead, zey are much inferior.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm mariano:

Handy: one of my happiest stretches in NYC was when I'd bike from Carroll Gardens to Fulton Landing, sneak a quick toke, then take the ferry to E35th and bike the rest mile or so to work in Midtown, then do the same thing in reverse going home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm ultradamno:

Could this be one of those deals where a band breaks up and then for a time there are two bands called that (like with Faust, Toxic Reasons...) or is it possible two unrelated Dusseldorf bands were called that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Michele with One "L":

@ami ad - ONLY ONE?!

@Michele with One "L":Yea,last week too.I hurt you.Cheers.
  5:06pm ami ad:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm mariano:

Who was that 60s band (Zombies? Animals?) for which there were two bands with the same name, arising from copyright/trademark issues? One version of the band had none of the original members but were put on tour by a greedy former manager. Probably forgetting some important details.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm TomDash:

Where did this Can remix...trying to catch the uniqueness of the mix - sounds like the original...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm mariano:

Hey TomDash! I'm finding that Can goes very well with a NOLA thunderstorm.

Roommates suck. Live alone is the answer.
  5:30pm David in London:

TomDash, funnily enough I’m enjoying a glass of cold, dry rose right now. With Can playing, too, I’m getting double layers of emergent goodness.
