Happy Midsummer to those in the places where they celebrate. Also, today is usually when there's the annual Voodoo ceremony at Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. Don't know if these are happening.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Bas NL:

Alpha Blondy.. nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm David Dichelle:

Oh, I'm not complaining about the extra daylight. I'd enjoy spending a week up in Midsummerland sometime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm David Dichelle:

Love that whistle bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Mark Hurst:

Hi David!
Avatar 3:47pm TDK60:

Yes, was reading about it David, big in the Scandinavian countries. Also in Brittany where it's connected to an old Christian festival of John Baptist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm David Dichelle:

Hey, Mark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Stanley:

Hello David and everyone.
Listening and resting after a busy day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm David Dichelle:

Hello Stanley up where it is surely light out for another hour or two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Stanley:

Yes, sunset is around 10pm but it doesn't get fully dark for another hour. Starts getting light about 3.30am, when the birds are up singing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Yes:

very nice stuff here
Avatar 3:57pm Sem:

Summer nights in the high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere sound lovely, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm David Dichelle:

Glad you like it, Yes!
Avatar 4:01pm TDK60:

I wish I was in northern Norway right now. And that's not just due to hot weather here. Heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Webhamster Henry:

@TDK60 Northern Norway has been having a heat wave like Siberia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm David Dichelle:

Henry, that's right, alarming stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I was in Sweden for Midsommar in 1976. Yeah, exciting. Plus they had a new queen, Sylvia, at the time, her picture was everywhere.
Avatar 4:09pm TDK60:

Didn't know, WebH. Hmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Webhamster Henry:

Look what I missed though, just a week or two late: (thanks Wikipedia): The wedding was preceded, the evening before, by a Royal Variety Performance, where the Swedish musical group ABBA performed "Dancing Queen" for the very first time, as a tribute to Sweden's future queen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Michael 98145:

... and i certainly did NOT know that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Webhamster Henry:

But I was in Malmö anyway, not Stockholm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Carmichael:

Heya David and long-day listeners. Here it's hot AND light. Kinda like that Lou Reed song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm David Dichelle:

Hey Carmichael! That is a very different intensity of light over where you are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm chris:

tres bien indeed! loving this whole set, David. hi to all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm David Dichelle:

Merci, Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Mark Hurst:

@Webham when you say "Midsommar" I can only think of that movie from last year (which I didn't see but heard enough about)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Michael 98145:

Great sets as always. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm David Dichelle:

Mark: A quick search for the film describes it as "folk horror".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm chresti:

Hi David, Continentals, home from work..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm David Dichelle:

Hey, Chresti!
Avatar 4:37pm TDK60:

Hi Chresti, hope the tennis courts didn't fry you today.
Avatar 4:39pm TDK60:

Called "G" for that wonderful musical note?
Avatar 4:42pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and stream sailors.

Are there many canals in your neck of the woods?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm chresti:

Hi TDK60, thanks, luckily the sun didn't come out until after 10 this morning, more of a June gloom effect, mid 70s to lower 80s.
Avatar 4:47pm TDK60:

David, I got to see Riley perform with a raga group about 12 years ago. He was lead raga singer. Also tabla, tambura, etc. In a small church converted into a yoga place in Portland, Or. Maybe 50 people. He certainly was a presence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm David Dichelle:

Good evening Brian, yes we have all sorts of waterways here. The one in the picture is sort of an odd bit leading down into one of the new artificial lakes near Leipzig. I'll have to explore it more sometime.
Avatar 4:49pm Sem:

Hello, Brian.
There's a sweet canal on the Island of Cape Breton, at St. Peter's. www.visitstpeters.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm David Dichelle:

TDK: Sounds like this piece may have been part of the program.
Avatar 4:53pm TDK60:

David, it was an all-acoustic Indian-style combo of maybe 6 or 7. A morning concert so maybe a morning or noon raga or ragas. Forget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm David Dichelle:

Wait, only 50 people - that must have been amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm doctorjazz:

This is very cool!
Avatar 4:58pm βrian:

Faster, faster!
  4:59pm Mark R:

Wow this is wild!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Bas NL:

Wow. That was a lot of hooha here keeping me from enjoying the program. Back to the sanity of Riley.
  5:01pm Dean:

Betty Freeman took the photo of Riley on this CD booklet. She is the Freeman of Cage's eponymous Etudes. I met her at a concert in Los Angeles back in the '80s. She thought she recognized me from a party. I assured her I hadn't been to the party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm David Dichelle:

Hey, Dean - maybe it was the sort of party you can't remember if you were there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm David Dichelle:

Welcome back, Bas!
  5:02pm Dean:

More like it's the sort of party to which I would not have been invited.
Avatar 5:04pm βrian:

Not even as arm-candy?
Avatar 5:05pm Brian in UK:

Sem is that fairly new?

Bas, love hooha!
  5:05pm Dean:

No, βrian. That opportunity has only arisen since last year, when I turned 60.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Bas NL:

Have some of mine @Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm chresti:

Bas, what's all the hooha? Is it like a hullabaloo?
Avatar 5:08pm Sem:

BiUK: let's say it's the most recent refurbishment, it's been there in one form or another forever. As a youngster travelling to the Newfoundland Ferry terminal in North Sydney, crossing the Canal was a big thing.
Avatar 5:09pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Bas. chresti, kind of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm doctorjazz:

Quite a set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Bas NL:

I guess yes, chresti. It involved incomprehensible forms and unhelpful phone calls..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm David Dichelle:

He is quite a composer!
Avatar 5:10pm βrian:

Sounds suspiciously like hoo-hoo...
  5:10pm Bela:

Greetings from Budapest Hungary where the Midsommar was filmed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Carmichael:

OK, off the Skype meeting. Time to crank the big knob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm David Dichelle:

Szia, Bela!
Avatar 5:11pm Brian in UK:

Sem, always found it odd that Panama & Suez were called canals.

Carmichael, excuse me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Carmichael:

And David, I didn't notice you played the Pogues quite early in the show. My favorite album!
  5:12pm Bela:

Jó estét David!
Avatar 5:13pm TDK60:

Didn't know they have that in the Netherlands too, Bas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Carmichael:

The radio knob, UK Brian ...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm chresti:

That sounds like a lunacy, Bas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm David Dichelle:

Carmichael: One I listened to nearly daily back in the day myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Bas NL:

Chamber of Commerce papers. I guess they're vague all over the world?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm David Dichelle:

Bas: Complicated language often veils noncommitalism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm doctorjazz:

Time to go, thanks, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Carmichael:

@I laughed heartily when I learned the album title was Winston Churchill's definition of the Royal Navy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Bas NL:

I once visited their office. After half an hour i was back outside asking myself.. where's my half an hour gone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Michael the 98145:

the fog of obfuscation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm chresti:

I had one yesterday, with the Personnel Dept. of my employer @Bas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Carmichael:

The Department of Redundancy Department.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Bas NL:

He, he chresti... say no more..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Bas NL:

Ours is called Human Resources. I always check for missing body parts on leaving their office.
Avatar 5:27pm Sem:

My stop. The Riley stuff: the right stuff, to my ears. Thx, David. See you and all aboard next Tuesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm David Dichelle:

Thanks Doctorjazz and Sem - have good evenings!
Avatar 5:28pm Brian in UK:

Human resources sounds so George Orwell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm chresti:

Hi and bye Sem and doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm chresti:

Haha Bas and Brian in UK.
  5:30pm Dean:

Where I work HR just "rebranded" to...sitting down?...People & Culture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm David Dichelle:

Dean, now that is plain post-Orwellian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Bas NL:

All noncommital offices at our university now have English titles. The cleaning lady no longer cleans and now works for the Facility Service Center.
  5:33pm Dean:

Yes, it is. In their defense, the director seems to be an outgoing, considerate, smart person who issues sensible guidance about genuine cultural issues, not just platitudes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Bas NL:

@Dean Just fell down laughing.. you did warn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm David Dichelle:

Bas, yes, random insertions of English help people to be noncomittal here as well.
Avatar 5:35pm Brian in UK:

Human Resources means never having to say you are sorry or made a mistake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Carmichael:

The guy who picks up my garbage every week (in an automated truck; he just sits there) is a Sanitary Technician.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Bas NL:

Just watched an old Tedx talk by Rory Sutherland. With 'issues'. How they'd used to be called 'problems' and got tackled. Now it's 'issues' and we only talk about solving them. noncommital like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Carmichael:

I remember hearing something about Hollywood, where someone has a concept that gets developed into a theme, which then gets a treatment, and finally is "an idea".
Avatar 5:43pm WR:

From Wikipedia: "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" is a song with music by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II from the 1928 operetta The New Moon.

I don't recall early Coltrane version where one can clearly discern the original composition as can be done with what Coltrane did with My Favorite Things. Back to work for me, will have to ponder that at another time. Laters all, thank you for the excellent program today David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Michael the 98145:

I know several people who will appreciate that "People & Culture" moniker ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, WR, take good care!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm David Dichelle:

Carmichael: And then it becomes Python's "splunge".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Carmichael:

Ha ha, I remember that skit! "Pencil droppers, eh??"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm David Dichelle:

No, I mean yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm chresti:

Haha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Michael the 98145:

Speaking of "ideas" i pity anyone else who has had to suffer the ITIL "framework"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Michael the 98145:

oh, love this tune
  5:49pm Dean:

That was Terence Blanchard w/ Harrison, right? And here, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm David Dichelle:

Actually Christian Scott and Brian Lynch here on trumpet, respectively.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Bas NL:

Great track! Reminds me of something.. Miles Davis.. Brubeck.. ?
  5:52pm Dean:

Ah, thanks.
  5:53pm Dean:

It's a Miles tune...from Kind of Blue? (I'm less familiar with that record than with the contemporaneous album I prefer, Cannonball's Somethin' Else.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm David Dichelle:

Yes, Kind of New (Harrison's album) covers the pieces on Kind of Blue.
Avatar 5:56pm TDK60:

Well, "danke" once again David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Bas NL:

Ahh, good call Dean. I used to play Kind of Blue a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Stanley:

Good listening. Thanks David.
Take care. Good night all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Michael the 98145:

Thanks again, David D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Bas NL:

O no! Bureaucracy finished this great show far too early! Thanks for the beautiful sounds David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Yvang:

Thanks for the show & thanks for the train David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Michael the 98145:
