So many great and little-known 45's from Freddy Cannon's WB period....
Avatar 6:04pm cometothesunshine:

A tricky day of tech things, but many thanks to DA The DJ, Night Owl, Orange Peel & of course The Bunny.

Hi Andrew...I enjoyed Orange Peel...I think he'll become a favorite of mine...incidentally, the Dylan and Four Seasons editions were great...
  6:06pm DA The DJ:

You're welcome. I'm breathing a slight sigh of relief. Hopefully OP will return at 8:00 PM.
  6:07pm jfmlaugh:

Hi Andrew! Here we go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Matt Clarke:

You hired a good DJ, Andrew. Orange Peel is a good employee of yours.
Avatar 6:07pm cometothesunshine:

I think he will have enough tea break time.
Avatar 6:08pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks so much GGGG
Avatar 6:08pm cometothesunshine:

I appreciate your kind words, sw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Candy-O'67:

Avatar 6:13pm cometothesunshine:

sorry, I am a little behind. Out of practice for the playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Matt Clarke:

Just glad you're back, Andrew.
Avatar 6:14pm cometothesunshine:

Getting Orange Peel out of retirement took more work than I imagined.
  6:15pm jfmlaugh:

What a great start to the playlist!
Avatar 6:17pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, JFM! Sorry for the confusion. A vacation did not sharpen my skills.
Avatar 6:19pm cometothesunshine:

These guys are actually rather different than the Ryan Twins.
  6:20pm johnyoung1234:

Cool looking label
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Matt Clarke:

Ready for the summer. It's been a long winter and spring.
Avatar 6:21pm cometothesunshine:

from New Zealand.
Avatar 6:22pm Bill S.:

Artie Butler had a hand in so many fine records...this one is new to me. Sounds sparkling and sunshine-y!
Avatar 6:22pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, these sounds are a bit about a world gone by. But is necessary to observe the changes. We can get on track, I know it.
  6:22pm johnyoung1234:

Ah...the days when singles were under 2:00!
Avatar 6:23pm Bill S.:

Is that RON Dante, who co-wrote the Eighth Day record?
Avatar 6:23pm cometothesunshine:

Yes, Bill S.
  6:23pm jfmlaugh:

Ha! A well needed vacation! Never heard of The Human Instinct...any cool story behind them?
Avatar 6:24pm cometothesunshine:

The Human Instinct are also from New Zealand. But they made this disc in the UK with Mike Hurst.
Avatar 6:24pm cometothesunshine:

I was in New Zealand last June.
  6:25pm jfmlaugh:

Oh Yes...Your New Zealand trip! Awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Mike Sin:

Good to hear the show back on the WFMU streamwaves!
Avatar 6:26pm cometothesunshine:

Only catching up on my records. I certainly appreciate the many places I managed to get to.
Avatar 6:26pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks so much, Mike Sin!
Avatar 6:29pm cometothesunshine:

Shades Of Blue had two Summer themed 45's. Maybe it was their favorite time of year?
  6:31pm johnyoung1234:

That Impact label is cool also. Never seen it...
Avatar 6:34pm cometothesunshine:

I couldn't find a photo of Linzer & Randell from the 60s. I am sure there must be one in the Sony archives.
  6:35pm johnyoung1234:

Does anyone know if there is a recommended Linzer & Randell CD compilation? I've heard quite a few great L&R songs on CTTS shows...
Avatar 6:36pm cometothesunshine:

There is none to date. They have two great 45's on Columbia from the 1960's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Matt Clarke:

Oh this is a good Cat song
  6:39pm jfmlaugh:

I agree Johnyoung1234! Great stuff! Still want to hear the Monkees sessions for Love Is On The Way
Avatar 6:40pm cometothesunshine:

That may happen someday jfm, but probably not this year. We almost did Love Is On The Way for Good Times.
  6:41pm jfmlaugh:

I remember you teasing in one of your shows..."~like wouldn't you like Micky to sing that"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Mike Sin:

I'm sure Cat hated having so many of the arrangements of his tunes out of his hands in the early days, but his "Deram days" are incredible. "Matthew and Son" is one of my favorite LPs of the '60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Matt Clarke:

Same here, Mike Sin
Avatar 6:43pm Bill S.:

what an amazing pic sleeve on the Turtles 45!
Avatar 6:43pm cometothesunshine:

I think Cat liked those records enough. He has been doing the songs live again, Mike.
  6:44pm CC:

Hehehe...ya sure don't hear this one often!!!...:)
Avatar 6:46pm cometothesunshine:

The best striped shirts ever.
Avatar 6:46pm Hubig Pie:

Just saw this flic, had some pretty good stock footage of actual surfing. The plot, hoaky
Avatar 6:46pm sw2442:

I remember the good 'ol days when I could hear this on oldies radio here in L.A....oh well...
  6:47pm Richard Whig:

hey hey! goodbye June Gloom and hello summer!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm Mike Sin:

I think Cat liked the songs -- he knew they were good -- but I don't think he ever liked the lush arrangements and additions. As soon as he got out of his Deram contract (and recovered from those horrible illnesses), the whole approach changed. I think Samwell-Smith stated that Cat came in stating what he wanted changed from his Deram days.
Avatar 6:48pm cometothesunshine:

Yeah, Mike. I think he did enjoy being a pop star at first, but that faded in 12 months. Then he got TB and changed his style.
  6:49pm jfmlaugh:

Real Gone Music has some incredible reissues and comps...including this one!
Avatar 6:50pm cometothesunshine:

JFM - they definitely did some CDs of things I imagined no one would buy!
  6:55pm CC:

I really dig the hint of Reverb you have on your voice during the breaks Andrew!!!
Avatar 6:56pm cometothesunshine:

Thank DA The DJ who set up this new stream.
  6:57pm uptownjen:

For the rest of my life, “You Bring The Summer” will remind me of a really gray, cold spring in Chicago, and then this song came out and changed everything.
  6:57pm CC:

It reminds me of good old fashioned radio!!!
  6:57pm jfmlaugh:

ah ha...thought you were going to play the incredible and new live version of The Door Into Summer. What a great song You Bring The Summer is!

This mix sounds a little different...seems I can hear more of Mike's background vocals.
Avatar 6:58pm cometothesunshine:

Crazy to remember being the first person to hear this demo and being at the recording sessions for this.
Avatar 6:59pm Mailman Tom:

Good to hear you again, Andrew!
Avatar 6:59pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, MT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

I love this band
Avatar 7:02pm sw2442:

I really enjoyed Good Times when it was released...one of my younger sisters enjoyed it too. I know this is, or could be, a huge longshot, but would Mike and Micky consider recording another album of new material, either as The Monkees, or using their names proper?
Avatar 7:03pm cometothesunshine:

That could happen, but we have to survive this year first sw
Avatar 7:04pm sw2442:

Very true...
Avatar 7:04pm cometothesunshine:

I am so pleased that Good Times turned out well.
  7:04pm MarkStaples:

Hi Andrew. Keep on 4-trackin' in the Free World!
Avatar 7:05pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks, Mark - happy you could listen.
  7:06pm jfmlaugh:

Do you ever buy/take a chance of any singles that you may not no much history on?
Avatar 7:06pm cometothesunshine:

all the time, jfm
Avatar 7:07pm cometothesunshine:

I listen to as much as I can with an open mind and then figure out how it fits together and the back story.
Avatar 7:07pm Mr Fab:

Popping over from the lounge next door to say, welcome back, and god bless the Rock n Soul channel and all who sail upon her!
  7:07pm jfmlaugh:

Outstanding...probably doesn't happen too much, but so cool when it does!
  7:11pm CC:

Dennis Keller's vocals always reminded me of David clayton-thomas or vice versa???
Avatar 7:11pm cometothesunshine:

CC - his vocals kinda almost ruin it for me, but there are some good Fever Tree tracks.
Avatar 7:12pm cometothesunshine:

Welcome, Mr. Fab. Thank you for the walk on!
Avatar 7:12pm cometothesunshine:

Happy Birthday, Ray! Your pizza is ready!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Matt Clarke:

Happy Birthday Ray!
Avatar 7:14pm DA the DJ:

Love those Guardsmen.
Avatar 7:14pm cometothesunshine:

Rather Soulful here in non-Snoopy mode.
  7:16pm uptownjen:

Boy, the beginning of that reminds me of “Run Baby Run” by the Newbeats!
Avatar 7:16pm Bill S.:

Wow, what a total overhaul of Canadian Sunset!!!
Avatar 7:16pm cometothesunshine:

We're full of surprises on Come To The Sunshine.
Avatar 7:18pm sw2442:

I LOVE this almost Four Seasons sounding version of Canadian Sunset...I've never heard it before now...I gotta see if it's on a CD or even as a download/stream...
Avatar 7:26pm cometothesunshine:

Skeeter has a great RCA Nashville vibe happening on this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

I adore this LP!!
Avatar 7:27pm cometothesunshine:

Glad you do too, GGGG!
Avatar 7:27pm cometothesunshine:

Her version of Walkin' In The Sand is incredible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

I also love her version of Under The Boardwalk
Avatar 7:29pm cometothesunshine:

Billy J. won that slot this time out. But there's always next summer.
Avatar 7:30pm cometothesunshine:

This is a great arrangement too. The backing vocals are so well arranged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Gaylord Fields:

Hi, Andrew and (not so) fair-weather friends! I was unaware that this Skeeter LP was such a goodie.
Avatar 7:31pm cometothesunshine:

Thank you for joining us, Gaylord!
Avatar 7:32pm cometothesunshine:

It can be yours for cheap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Gaylord Fields:

I will make it mine for cheap!
Avatar 7:34pm cometothesunshine:

The whole purpose of this show is to empty our wallets.
Avatar 7:35pm cometothesunshine:

Record collecting is not only a past time, but also a pass money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Gaylord Fields:

This show is all about the symbiotic relationship between DJ, listener, and record dealer.
Avatar 7:35pm sw2442:

That's the truth...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Matt Clarke:

It's a fine line isn't it Sir Gaylord?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Gaylord Fields:

You do not kid, Mighty Matt!
Avatar 7:37pm cometothesunshine:

Lifestyles Of The Broke & Infamous
Avatar 7:38pm cometothesunshine:

John D. Loudermilk was quite a songwriter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Matt Clarke:

This LP is really good. We can split it Gaylord.
Avatar 7:39pm cometothesunshine:

I think the mono is even cheaper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Gaylord Fields:

I literally just bought a copy, Matt! We'll work out the custody somehow.
Avatar 7:40pm cometothesunshine:

But you will need DA the DJs reverb to complete the musical picture.
Avatar 7:43pm cometothesunshine:

New York's A Lonely Town (When You Are The Only Summer Sunshine Fan Around)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Matt Clarke:

It was definitely that way in high school!
Avatar 7:46pm cometothesunshine:

It was that way in California too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Gaylord Fields:

So seagulls have to be the No. 1 bird as heard on records, right?
Avatar 7:47pm cometothesunshine:

Pretty much, but only when paired with crashing waves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Gaylord Fields:

Yeah, parrots and crashing waves don't quite work.
Avatar 7:48pm cometothesunshine:

This is one of my favorite records ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Matt Clarke:

Those twilight summer days nearing September...
  7:52pm CC:

Seagulls are an easy sound to make on a saxophone...like in Marc Almonds The City...
Avatar 7:52pm cometothesunshine:

I did a summer show without the Beach Boys.
  7:53pm jfmlaugh:

Just a Beach Boy song...
  7:53pm DennisK:

My first band (in 7th grade) was going to be named The Tradewinds....until my brother broke the news to me about that other band. But then I had a new favorite 45!
Avatar 7:54pm cometothesunshine:

DK: Unique & The Originals!
  7:54pm DennisK:

I noticed that, Andrew... but the presence of Russ Regan made up for it
  7:55pm jfmlaugh:

The Turtles Surfer Dan felt like a Beach Boy song at times too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Matt Clarke:

Thanks for the great show Andrew! Gotta head out for a minute, but will swing back for a bit of the Peel.
Avatar 7:56pm cometothesunshine:

Thanks everyone for joining me today! Orange Peel DJ's directly after me! And Matt & Mike are on the Drummer stream too!
  7:56pm DennisK:

Unique & The Originals.... best band name ever!
  7:56pm Tim from LH:
