Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Otis! (and everyone that will join shortly!) I hear the familiar street sounds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Otis:

Bon matin friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Otis:

Morning Jan!
Avatar 11:03am Sonderangebot:

Good morning! It's so hot in here, but we are lucky to have some refreshing golden drinks. Hey, there's even some for Chris, Vicki and Becky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Otis:

Salut Sond!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Jan Turkenburg:

Yay! Sonderangebot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Kat in Chicago:

Good morning! I have that t-shirt too but I got it in the wrong size (too small), so it's in the bundle that is going to get repurposed or upcycled someday. We are getting a break from the heat today after a rainy day yesterday, it's nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Kat in Chicago:

Also, the appeal of rhubarb has always escaped me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Otis:

Morning Kat. Ooooh, saw you on Phil in '84! You rock or punk ... Loved the dropped term, 'punkers' ... ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Kat in Chicago:

Heehee, you found it! Yes, that Phil show was a kind of Chicago sequel to an earlier show he'd done with "Parents of Punkers" in LA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Kat in Chicago:

I identified more with "new wave" myself. Most of my friends were proto-goth types who thought I wore too much color.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Candy-O'67:

Hey, Otis! Tuning in! Hope to see you on Night Owl again soon. We've been having some fun chats!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Candy-O'67:

haha Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Jan Turkenburg:

I'll be lurking a lot, either preparing a meal or relaxing and eating in the shade in the garden, with FP in the background :- )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Candy-O'67:

Sounds nice, Jan! We've got thunderstorms and rain off an on all day today here. I'm about to attempt to walk my dog in the lull
Avatar 11:26am solo mon:

Candy, Rich hellooooo
Avatar 11:27am solo mon:

Otis! Thanks for mention my “ghost” show.:-)
Avatar 11:28am solo mon:

Hello Otis and fellow listeners - goooooood mornin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Otis:

Hey ya MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Hopey Sockmonkey:

Good morning, Otis & All. I'll have the Golden Refresher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Otis:

Hopey yay!
Avatar 11:35am solo mon:

Omg little pixie is so cute.
Avatar 11:38am solo mon:

Hmmm... A golden refresher, not what I was told it meant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Otis:

Depends on if you order the Golden in our upscale uptown location or if you go... downtown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Rich in Washington:

empty house today. I'm gonna blast this from the kitchen while I cook up an epic breakfast.
Avatar 11:41am Sonderangebot:

@solo omg I was going to make that same reflection about the golden drink earlier but held back!!! And my avatar is from some QSL/amateur radio postcards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Otis:

Mmmmmm, breakfast.
  11:41am Martinibomb:

^taters & peppers @ rich???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Hopey Sockmonkey:

There's a LOT of sugar in that drink. I think I'm going to need to cut it with about 40% booze. Maybe rum?
Avatar 11:45am solo mon:

Lol given the chance I will always take it there ;-)
Avatar 11:46am solo mon:

By there I do mean “downtown”
Avatar 11:47am solo mon:

Sonderangebot the cartoon cat in pic is so cute. Reminds me of my old cat. I’m cat crazy btw. Meow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Kat in Chicago:

I am theoretically going to be back on the Chicago college radio airwaves next week - WLUW is letting me pre-record my show at home and supposedly their automation will play it in the time slot. Put together a playlist last night, making first attempt to record tonight! I got a better showtime too, Monday 8-10 instead of 10-midnight, at least temporarily.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Kat in Chicago:

I also like Sonderangebot's avatar - obviously!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Carmichael:

Hey Otis and punkers. HA HA Kat, I just read the playlist and saw the show. In retrospect, Donahue is squarer than Mike Douglas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Kat in Chicago:

Hopey, I agree. Maybe vodka for the punch. Reminds me, I do need to get some vodka and ginger beer in the house. Moscow mule season!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Kat in Chicago:

Nice, Carmichael! I can't watch the show myself, it's too weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Kat in Chicago:

Phil seemed like a pretty nice guy, actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Carmichael:

You showed the squares some class. And that granny who got snarky with you, too funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Kat in Chicago:

Haha, I still remember that part!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Otis:

Hi Carmichael. Hey all you punkers, we are playing ELO now so go away with your Crassy Gristle!
Avatar 11:58am solo mon:

I live this part w the robot singer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Kat in Chicago:

"Crassy Gristle" is a really bad stripper name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Hopey Sockmonkey:

I started stocking up booze and snacks last week for the upcoming holiday. Moscow mules sound like a perfect summery idea!
Avatar 11:58am solo mon:

Maybe one of my favorite ELO moments, of which there are MANY
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

I used to buy cassettes for mixed tapes based on how cool they looked. The better the colors the worse the quality!
Avatar 12:01pm Linda Lee:

hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Kat in Chicago:

When you're 60 and sitting on the couch making a playlist for your college radio show. LOL.
Hi Linda Lee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Hi Linda!
Avatar 12:03pm Linda Lee:

hi Kat! is that you? i'm joining you at 60 next month! it's absurd!
hi Hopey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Candy-O'67:

Ooooh, I missed some ELO! Hope you play some more. I'm back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Kat in Chicago:

It's me, LL, and it is absurd indeed!
Avatar 12:04pm Linda Lee:

unbelievable. where's you show?
Avatar 12:04pm solo mon:

Darker toned YE YE is a genre that can only be named on sheenas!
Avatar 12:05pm Linda Lee:

sorry, fast typing gives me an accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Kat in Chicago:

LL, I posted upthread - I'm supposedly getting back on the radio in prerecorded form next week. If all goes well, Monday 8-10 CDT at wluw.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Candy-O'67:

I'll have to check that out, Kat
Avatar 12:06pm Linda Lee:

lovely!! where's luw?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Linda, the 60 club? omg, I'll be a (reluctant) member in two months!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Kat in Chicago:

Chicago, Loyola college radio. I took over a friend's show in 2013.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Kat in Chicago:

Yay Hopey, one of us!
Avatar 12:08pm Linda Lee:

@Kat, are they online? we'd love hearing you!
looks like we made it, Hopey! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Kat in Chicago:

yes, wluw.org
Avatar 12:09pm Linda Lee:

  12:09pm wendy del formaggio:

Hello Otis! I would like to take this opportunity to tell you I love your mic breaks. So glad I can tune in today!
Avatar 12:10pm StringOFperils:

Watched a bit of The Donahue...sigh.
Avatar 12:10pm Linda Lee:

hi Wendy! how are you?
Avatar 12:10pm Linda Lee:

what's 'The Donahue'?
Avatar 12:12pm StringOFperils:

They'll explain. I need to excise it from memory.
Avatar 12:12pm Linda Lee:

hi Otis!!! :-) thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Kat in Chicago:

The Phil Donahue show I was on in 1983 or 1984 with Al Jourgensen and the lady from Parents of Punkers in LA. I mentioned it last week on Rich's board when he was playing a lot of Ministry.
  12:13pm wendy del formaggio:

Hey Linda! I am good, thank you. Enjoying being at work today. They have really good air-conditioning. Howsabout you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Kat in Chicago:

Sorry you were traumatized StringOFperils :) hi Wendy!
Avatar 12:15pm Linda Lee:

glad you're well! i'm in the mountains, upstate new york, in a shaded cabin with a stone basement. i'm fine, thanks! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Candy-O'67:

Whoa, Kat! That's cool. I saw all his bands a lot back at a club in Houston called #'s (it was like that on the sign) and even partied with him and a whole bunch of people after a Revco show in Houston at the Allen Parkway Inn after a show back in the late '80's. That was a blast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Candy-O'67:

Sounds like a nice place to be Linda Lee!
  12:17pm wendy del formaggio:

Hello Kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Candy-O'67:

Hey SOP!
Avatar 12:17pm Linda Lee:

it is, for right now. that's all i ask. :-)
  12:17pm wendy del formaggio:

So much of Bowie is so dreamy, including this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Otis:

So nice to see (read) you Linda Lee & Wendy!
Avatar 12:18pm StringOFperils:

Hello Candy-O. And hi to you Otis, and to everyone. :)
Avatar 12:18pm solo mon:

Yay more ELO!
Avatar 12:18pm Linda Lee:

if i had to name a favorite Bowie period, i'd name this one. no superstar yet, just heartfelt music. ..
same here, Otis. love seeing you, hearing you, reading you too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Kat, you were on that Donahue show!? I totally remember it and have seen bits of it many times. Amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Candy-O'67:

I love all of his '60's period music, too.
Avatar 12:20pm Linda Lee:

i do too. from 'The Image' period.. which is quite an amazing little film, if you haven't seen it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Kat in Chicago:

That's cool, Candy-O '67. How did one pronounce #'s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Candy-O'67:

No, I haven't. I need to check that out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Candy-O'67:

Numbers, Kat. So funny how we found out about the party, too. Hilarious story. I'll tell it in a nutshell. My best friend was sitting on the side of the stage the whole show. We couldn't find her when the show was over. Next thing we know, here goes a pickup truck flying by with her in the back shouting, "Party with Revco at the Allen Parkway Inn" - we were cracking up. It was so funny. So, there we went!
Avatar 12:23pm Linda Lee:

Wiki: "The Image is a 1969 black and white short film directed by Michael Armstrong with starring Michael Byrne and David Bowie in his first film role. The film is one of the few short films ever to receive a certified 'X' Rating and it gained this rating due to its violent content." it's not very violent at all, compared to today's films. i see it as an examination of repressed desire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Candy-O'67:

Thanks, Linda. Will have to find it!
Avatar 12:24pm Linda Lee:

more likely X for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Candy-O'67:

Numbers is still a goth club to this day also
Avatar 12:26pm Linda Lee:

here you go, when ready. there are a few different posts, but not all are good quality. this one's pretty good. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 12:27pm BC Sterrett:

Morning everyone! Ha, I was just playing that Little Pixie 45 for my wife yesterday. It was one of the first thrift store records I ever bought and launched me being more serious/curious about record collecting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Kat in Chicago:

Candy, I think I would have been scared to party with Revco! (Chris Connelly is a sweetheart, though.) I didn't really talk to Al when we did the show, but we ran into each other a few years later at Smart Bar and had a good laugh about the experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Candy-O'67:

Oh, we were young and dumb and high as hell on X! We didn't care back then! hahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Candy-O'67:

Still can't believe I survived my 20's! I'm stone cold sober for 16 years now! HA!
Avatar 12:30pm Linda Lee:

good work, Candy-O! :-) i made it to 14, myself. thankfully it does get easier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Candy-O'67:

That's funny, Kat. I know Al lived in Austin for a while (where I live now).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Candy-O'67:

Thanks, Linda Lee. Congrats to you, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hi everybody!
Avatar 12:32pm solo mon:

Aw this poor little lady
Avatar 12:33pm Linda Lee:

well, thank you. unfortunately i'm off the wagon now .. but things happen as they do. i'm not in danger of dying daily any more, so i think we're doing acceptably well. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Candy-O'67:

It does. I don't miss it. I was just a social partier, but blacked out and passed out a lot from alcohol going overboard when I did drink. I had to stop, no control!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Candy-O'67:

Look, Michael Shelley's daughter, Juniper! I hear her on his show :)
Avatar 12:34pm Linda Lee:

shit. that's bad news. i'm glad you did!
Avatar 12:34pm Linda Lee:

his daughter! sweet voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Kat in Chicago:

How's Austin these days, Candy? I've only been there a couple of times, SXSW in '92 and '93. Would like to revisit someday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Candy-O'67:

Yeah, me, too! I'd probably be dead by now if I didn't. I was in my late 30's when I finally wised up
Avatar 12:35pm Linda Lee:

beautiful. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

The Prefab Four!
Avatar 12:36pm Linda Lee:

i came within minutes more than once, so i'm sure i'd be gone by now, also, if i hadn't changed course. i'm glad we're both still here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Candy-O'67:

It's pretty good, Kat. I used to visit a lot back in those days when I lived in Houston. Then I moved to CA in '99 for 14 1/2 years. Moved here in 2014. It's even changed a lot since I moved here. It's not as quaint as it used to be, a lot of the cool old places are gone, but that's happening everywhere now with cities selling out to corporate America. It's still a great place to live and visit, still has some charm left
Avatar 12:38pm Linda Lee:

i was just about to ask you about Austin. :-)
Avatar 12:39pm Linda Lee:

i came through in 81 on the way to Mexico & i liked it quite a bit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Candy-O'67:

I'm glad we're both still here, too :))
Avatar 12:39pm Linda Lee:

:-) !!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Candy-O'67:

Wow, '81! That's before my time to even visit Austin. I was still in junior high then. First time I came to Austin was my college days :) It was really fab back then, I know. I loved it here in the late '80's and '90's. It's grown so much since then. They've built a lot of skyscrapers since those days
Avatar 12:41pm Linda Lee:

i'm looking out for a place to winter over this year & i'm wondering if i could do so affordably in Texas! is this a foolish quest? i do know the state is large .. not monochromatic..
Avatar 12:42pm Linda Lee:

if Austin's changed the way New York has.. enough said. i'm told i wouldn't recognize my home town now'days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Candy-O'67:

Oh, you could totally do that. Austin isn't that cheap anymore, but down in the Valley and by the Gulf Coast or out West you could surely find something. The warmest part in winter is the Valley (McAllen area) or very tip of Gulf Coast - South Padre Island, Brownsville
Avatar 12:43pm Linda Lee:

beautiful! thank you! that's really helpful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Candy-O'67:

I'm sure it has. There's some good left, but a lot if gone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Candy-O'67:

You're welcome :)
Avatar 12:45pm Linda Lee:

these catskills winters are done with me, i think. it's been 20 years now. -25F isn't unusual in February.
Avatar 12:46pm Linda Lee:

that's 20 years fulll time, 35 years totally. i'm ready. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Candy-O'67:

I couldn't take winter like that either. Anywhere is TX, then, would be better than that! We rarely get even 20-30 degree weather. It's mostly 40's - 60's in the winter here and only snows once in every few years and doesn't even stick 24 hours
Avatar 12:47pm Linda Lee:

wow. that's beautiful. :-)
  12:48pm Martinibomb:

I helped Michael out with his broadcast setup - he is a super nice dude luv him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Candy-O'67:

I like his show a lot Martinibomb
Avatar 12:50pm Linda Lee:

always a fun show, with Michael Shelley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Candy-O'67:

You could get a better deal somewhere on the outskirts of Austin, something more affordable. Check with me when you get ready and I can fill you in on some areas to check, Linda Lee
Avatar 12:52pm Linda Lee:

wow. thank you so much! great! it won't be a permanent thing. i'm just looking for a place to wait for my passport, basically. :-)
Avatar 12:53pm Linda Lee:

thank you so kindly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Candy-O'67:

Sounds good! You might end up liking it here, too. I fell for this place :)
Avatar 12:53pm StringOFperils:

Peter Cetera made my brain bleed.
Avatar 12:53pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 12:54pm StringOFperils:

Oh right. No hating. I love not listening to him.
Avatar 12:54pm Linda Lee:

i'm with you on Chicago, Otis. taste in art isn't hating. it's discernment. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Candy-O'67:

I gotta get back to work. Still tuning in. Nice chatting! Everyone enjoy your day :)
Avatar 12:56pm Linda Lee:

the day we worry about being nice to art.. is the day we start absorbing bad art! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Missile Command! Yars Revenge! I'm so excited to hear this.
Avatar 12:56pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Otis:

Hi BC! I played Little Pixie earlier and mentioned you for turning me on to that single years ago.
Avatar 1:08pm BC Sterrett:

Background music by Kraftwerk
Avatar 1:08pm BC Sterrett:

Oh I didn't know!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Rich in Washington:

I don't think Missile Command needed this rich of a background story. Kudos for the Kid Stuff production crew on what must've been an otherwise slow week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Rich in Washington:

Somewhere there's a fansite where every voice on this record has a complex backstory.
Avatar 1:12pm BC Sterrett:

I have 3 of these Atari records. There are 3 total if I'm not mistaken? correct?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Otis:

I wish there was a Journey Escape story record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Otis:

Wow, BC. I only have this one. They are hard to find these days and expensive online. There were only 3.
Avatar 1:13pm BC Sterrett:

Oh man, I love the villian character voices on these story records.
Avatar 1:16pm BC Sterrett:

Background music by Trio. lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Rich in Washington:

We should do Kids Stuff level group productions for things like favorite LP covers, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Otis:

Fake Kid Stuff Records, haaaa, yes!
Avatar 1:17pm BC Sterrett:

Oh man, this song
Avatar 1:18pm BC Sterrett:

Rich, write a Kids Stuff story record for us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Rich in Washington:

Where's the Kids Stuff doc, ala The Wrecking Crew film?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Rich in Washington:

As much as a loved the latter, I'd rather watch a Kids Stuff documentary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Rich in Washington:

Minimal wave is what I do when I'm on my daily walk and one of my neighbors I don't know waves at me while driving by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Otis:

This is a good neighbor-waving song, in slow-motion.
Avatar 1:22pm BC Sterrett:

Maybe I could feature one of the other Atari records on "The Clock" in a couple weeks.
Avatar 1:24pm Linda Lee:

love this track, Otis. lovely!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Otis:

Do it to it, yay!
Avatar 1:25pm BC Sterrett:

Minimal wave is the best wave. I didn't know the term for it as teen. I think I called it "crap synth" and told people it was what I was after.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Its good to see in a way, the trend away from FB. The group I admin has ~10,800 people we used to get 50 people joining every week or 2. It has FLATTENED out. Too much junk on FB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm ARB:

I'm late, but in the nick of time!
Avatar 2:13pm BC Sterrett:

The main reason I'm still on facebook is to make Sheena announcements. I'm basically on FB break otherwise.
