Rainy days and Thursdays always gets me down, except when listening to Testify!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Funky16Corners:

Greetings from Green Bay!

Hi everyone from everywhere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Funky16Corners:

Matt! Jeff! Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

It’s hot(32 C) & sunny here Brian.
Avatar 3:04pm Erica:

Testify is back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Erica!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Funky16Corners:

It's actually cool up here, in the 60s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

Classic mix Larry
Avatar 3:05pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Matt, cheered me up no end!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, this collection is essential
Avatar 3:05pm Jeff Ash:

BOOM! Great start with a Tom Moulton mix! Fun fact: Back in the heyday of mashups, there was tremendous mashup of "Back Stabbers" and ... believe it or not ... Britney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Funky16Corners:

I have the 1970s vinyl issue, and the expanded CD box set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - I'll have to look for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Hi Larry, this is a GREAT opener.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Hopey! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm doctorjazz:

What they do?!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc! They smile in your face!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Funky16Corners:

There should be a statue of Tom Moulton somewhere.
Avatar 3:12pm Sem:

Hiya, Larry, Remixers, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Looking at the track listing on this album: HOT. I need this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Matt from New Orleans:

Maybe he’ll replace Columbus Larry
Avatar 3:13pm Brian in UK:

A Neville a day keeps the blues away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Funky16Corners:

@Matt - That'd be OK with me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Funky16Corners:

Meters backing brother Cyril on this 45
Avatar 3:15pm Sem:

If a Scoville is a measure of heat, then surely a Neville is a measure of soul.
Avatar 3:18pm Brian in UK:

Amen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

That was so right on, Larry.
Avatar 3:19pm WR:

Thank you for speaking out Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

*This* is Styx?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm doctorjazz:

Always loved "Lies", moves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

Yes, early Styx, 1974
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm doctorjazz:

Well said, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks to Jeff who suggested this and passed it on to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Doc!
Avatar 3:22pm Jeff Ash:

This is really the last vestige of Styx being a regional band out of Chicago. Once they broke nationally, they left covers behind.
Avatar 3:23pm Erica:

Styx before Babe and Mr. Robotic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Funky16Corners:

I can't recall is this is before Lady became a hit (I think Lady came out before Lies)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Funky16Corners:

Happy Birthday Paul!
Avatar 3:25pm Jeff Ash:

Yep, Erica. Some of us who knew of Styx before they hit it big prefer the earlier stuff. Big prog influence. Yes, Larry, "Lady" came first.
Avatar 3:25pm Erica:

Paul Mccartney Larry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Matt from New Orleans:

Sir Paul to you Pleb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Funky16Corners:

Yes!
Avatar 3:26pm Brian in UK:

When I'm Sixty Four plus fourteen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I can't believe he's almost as old as my Mom!
Avatar 3:27pm Brian in UK:

This SBJ has hints of other songs that I cannot quite place.
  3:27pm Dean:

But Mr. Grogan, he has always been almost as old as your Mom, hasn't he?
Avatar 3:27pm Erica:

Happy birthday Macca!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Funky16Corners:

@Dean, he has indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - It was also recorded by the Knickerbockers
Avatar 3:29pm Brian in UK:

Dean, not sure if Larry's mom was ever a pop star, they age differently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Only in our house
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Funky16Corners:

This Brenda Lee 45 was recorded in the UK with Jimmy Page on guitar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Matt from New Orleans:

@Larry Did you ever play on the same bill as either these guys or the Kings?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Funky16Corners:

No. We knew people in both bands but never had the opportunity to play with them. The Tryfles were broken up before we formed and the Chesterfield Kings were kind of out of our league
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Funky16Corners:

We were kind of a second-wave band, and most of the bands we played with were also. We never got to play with the Fuzztones, or the Vipers, but played with the Secret Service a bunch of times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Oh, good choice from Outlandos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Funky16Corners:

I love the early Police stuff
Avatar 3:48pm Erica:

Which Secret Service Larry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Funky16Corners:

The one based in Long Island, played UK-R&B stuff
Avatar 3:51pm Erica:

Oh because there was another band from Sweden that played New Wave music during the 80s
Avatar 3:51pm Erica:

That had the same name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Matt from New Orleans:

This Argent song sounds duet of like the Flash Gordon theme
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Matt from New Orleans:

Missed sort becoming duet
Avatar 3:54pm Erica:

I'll check that one out Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Funky16Corners:

It's good stuff, Erica. They were a great live band.
Avatar 4:00pm Sem:

indisputably.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm doctorjazz:

OTIS!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Matt from New Orleans:

Another fave from down here Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Funky16Corners:

One of my all time faves!
Avatar 4:05pm Jeff Ash:

I think you introduced me to "Gossip Gossip" on one of your earliest NOLA mixes at F16C. Thanks as always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Funky16Corners:

My pleasure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Matt from New Orleans:

I have a great Japanese comp on CD of Diamond Joe & Willie West I picked up used there in 2006.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Matt from New Orleans:

Prince Buster!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Funky16Corners:

On Peavine?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Matt from New Orleans:

Yeah Larry P-Vine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Funky16Corners:

I remember when they were reissuing New Orleans stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Matt from New Orleans:

I notice the CD version is not listed on Discogs. Don’t have it down here with me. Just the digital files.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Funky16Corners:

I wish Sundazed had expanded on their Sansu comp with more New Orleans comps. They really did the best job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Matt from New Orleans:

That’s a good one. Me too. I’m always up for more reissues especially for unreleased sessions from down here.
Avatar 4:17pm Jeff Ash:

Proof again that Gladys Knight was badass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Matt from New Orleans:

I suspect that dude who ended up with Allen’s master tapes won’t be making them available for cheap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - My fave singer on Motown!
Avatar 4:24pm Erica:

Look out for the Cheater!
Avatar 4:26pm Erica:

Love that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Another great set, Larry! And really looking forward to Uncle Michael's dance party tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Matt from New Orleans:

Gene Kent Ronn Records
Avatar 4:31pm Little Danny:

Hey Larry 'n' all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Hopey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Funky16Corners:

@Matt - That's the guy! Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Matt from New Orleans:

Hey Danny. We all missed you on Tuesday.
Avatar 4:36pm Brian in UK:

Larry, listening to FMU shows playing music from the Sixties has made me realise how little we got over here compared to yourselves. It was the British Invasion and a lot bands covering American hits over here so never heard the originals. (The Originals being an early version of Spinal Tarp)
Avatar 4:37pm Little Danny:

Thanks Matt, it's nice to be missed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I can imagine that happened quite a lot.
Avatar 4:38pm Little Danny:

This is gorgeous, this Silver Eagle 45. New to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Funky16Corners:

It was released under a couple of different names (same group). Also as John, Jeffrey and Brother Tom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Matt from New Orleans:

Some connection to Spanky and Our Gang dom what I remember?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Matt from New Orleans:

From not dom
Avatar 4:44pm Little Danny:

Mose!
Avatar 4:44pm Sem:

NIce, Mose Allison, thanks, Larry. Been awhile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Funky16Corners:

Can't go very long without some Mose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

This is a great album, too. I think it's the only album where he plays electric piano.
Avatar 4:45pm Little Danny:

I'm wholly unfamiliar with his music after the early '60s. This is very cool yet unmistakably Mose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

@Matt - I think Geoffrey Meyers went on to replace one of the members in Spanky and Our Gang
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Funky16Corners:

The album is called 'Western Man'. It's not as common as some of his other albums but well worth grabbing
Avatar 4:47pm Brian in UK:

A little truth would be a start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Matt from New Orleans:

I saw Elizabeth Cotten in my youth. Around 83/84. It was impressive to see someone so old still play the guitar and sing well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Funky16Corners:

Wow!
Avatar 4:54pm John from NP:

Hi Larry, long time no see. Digging the show today, as usual
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Funky16Corners:

Hi John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Matt from New Orleans:

Thanks Larry
Avatar 4:56pm Brian in UK:

Great selections Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks guys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 5:00pm Erica:

What a show Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Thanks so much for the great show!
Avatar 5:03pm Little Danny:

Thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks everybody!
