Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm ParUbi:

Hey everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm chresti:

Hi Sam and House of Horse!
Avatar 10:03pm StringOFperils:

Nice opening salvo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Sam Segal:

Gary, ParUbi, Chresti, and String! Nice to see you, Horse Friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm david w:

Who but Braxton would spray graffiti on a polka band? Hello Sam and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Perfect music for dirt racing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Sam Segal:

True that, Franco! Or running wind sprints.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Franco Twinkie:

Or competitive tortilla whapping.
Avatar 10:15pm northguineahills:

wait, wait, there is a "The Complete Arista Recordings of Anthony Braxton"!!!!???

*faints*

I have a lot of Anthony Braxton, books about him, and it''s impossible to keep up w/ his output. Dayum!

david said it perfect. And whom else would record w/ Wolf Eyes!!!?

*faints*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm WR:

For just a moment I thought about getting the complete Braxton bandcamp digital discography but then thought realistically about how I should be spending nearly $800 if I had that much in my "discretionary " budget...
Avatar 10:16pm northguineahills:

I really need to get a fainting couch....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Sam Segal:

$800 is a bit steep, WR! You could probably spend the next decade diving into it though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Sam Segal:

Not just any box set, a Mosaic box set, NGH!
Avatar 10:19pm StringOFperils:

This Nuyorican electro funk is kind of cool
Avatar 10:22pm northguineahills:

@WR: I have maybe 10% of Anthony Braxton's official discography (probably less), and then there's the unofficial. It's a rabbit hole one would never surface from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Sam Segal:

Bit more info on Onyx Ashanti's bio, if you're interested, @String: blankforms.org...
Avatar 10:25pm northguineahills:

word, Sam! I'd love to hit him up, but what little coin I have, just went to WFMU...
Avatar 10:25pm StringOFperils:

thx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm doctorjazz:

Hi Equestrians!
There's a Braxton Mosaic Box? This I gotta find...
Avatar 10:29pm northguineahills:

(and I miss Thomkins Square Park, I've seen the best impromtu musicians there).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm WR:

I do have a few dozen collector live recordings and a half dozen Arista on vinyl and a Black Saint 8 cd collection. I mean how much can we process? Of the ones on bandcamp I have been eyeing the Chadbourne, a couple of the operas, and the SGTM vocal 12 cd set. Adds up fast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Sam Segal:

There is, Doc! Covers much of his classic 70s material.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm WR:

Looking at my bandcamp notifications I see this is your bandcamp set and that Jeff Golick bought the Braxton/ Chadbourne set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm ParUbi:

Chaise longue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm doctorjazz:

It's from 2008, long sold out, didn't see used copies on Discogs. Havea bunch of his stuff, and newer stuff I haven't had much time to listen to (the set with Nels Cline, for instance).
At one point, I bought almost everything Mosaic released, then just for to be too much, and stopped checking the site.
Avatar 10:37pm northguineahills:

aye, WR, I heard the Braxton/Chadbourne on Jeff's show, and still really want it. (dig both artists...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm doctorjazz:

Braxton/Chadbourne sounds interesting...they would seem to be 180 degrees apart in sensibility, while both are on the fringes of music.
Avatar 10:37pm northguineahills:

oh, I forgot my mandatory, "Moodyman"!

and now, Bunny Lee!
Avatar 10:38pm northguineahills:

@doctorjazz: check out Braxton/Wolf Eyes' "Black Vomit", live at Victoriaville...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Sam Segal:

Seeing Moodymann do an all Prince DJ set at First Avenue in Minneapolis on the one year anniversary of Prince's death remains a life highlight for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm WR:

One significant point is that you can listen to nearly all the Braxton on the bc website, so plenty to explore without buying. So I should not whine about the price.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm doctorjazz:

While looking for the Complete Braxton, I found this article on it by D.O's Jeff G.
destination-out.com...
Avatar 10:44pm northguineahills:

and for the Braxton afficionados, I can't recommend enough the Graham Locke account of his '84 tour w/ Marilyn Crisspell , Gerry Hemmingway, and others....

@Sam: I last saw Moodyman in 2010 in Brooklyn at a small party (one of the Bunker affairs). T'was fun...
Avatar 10:44pm northguineahills:

gracias, dr jazz por la link!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm doctorjazz:

NGH, Black Vomit, huh? Sounds appealing...
(Glad you're getting a bit of a break and sleeping better. Lack of sleep is terrible...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm doctorjazz:

That Lock book, Forces In Motion, is good reading indeed.
Avatar 10:56pm northguineahills:

That's the one, dr jazz! (just found my books, but they are boxed...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm wmbogart:

Wow, is this a Southern Man sample? Inspired choice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Sam Segal:

Yeah, I think so, wmbogart! Obnox pulls it off!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

greetings, Sam and WFMU folx. Glad to be here with you all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm doctorjazz:

Definitely Southern Man sample, interesting sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Sam Segal:

Granny! Glad to have you with us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm wmbogart:

Embarrassed to say I hadn't heard of Obnox (or anyone in this set so far other than Pink Siifu after that DCB-quoting Avalanches single), I'll have to do some research! Great show as always Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm doctorjazz:

Don't be, don't know anyone in this set either. That's why I hang around this joint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Sam Segal:

Woah, this is wild. Hadn't heard about Pink Siifu rapping Purple Mountains lyrics. I need to hear that track. With Rivers Cuomo on it! Bizarre!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm wmbogart:

Doctorjazz, if you're stumped too I'm in good company.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i think it's listener fred who says, "i don't listen to WFMU to hear what i like, i listen to WFMU to like what i hear"
always a fantastic education, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm doctorjazz:

Yeah, Hip Hop is a genre I'm not up on. I like it...there's just so many listening hours in the day...(my daughter sometimes hips me to something current that she likes).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Sam Segal:

This Drakeo the Ruler mixtape was recorded over the phone from the LA County Men's Central Jail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm wmbogart:

Drakeo I actually know (and love!), he's big in LA. Hopefully he and 03 Greedo are free soon. And RIP Pop Smoke of course.
Avatar 11:19pm northguineahills:

If anyone has any recommendations of what to do in Birmingham, AL, I'm all ears for recommendations. Outside of Hank Williams Sr's bplace, and camping, my brain is blank...
Avatar 11:20pm northguineahills:

Pop Smoke, new to me (we're going to miss Billy Jam's weekly show, hopefully he'll be back soon, as I need my weekly injection of hiphop, gracias por mas, Sam!
Avatar 11:24pm northguineahills:

a departed friend of mine (who recorded every concert he went to, almost one a night [beating my average], and worked at Sam Ash, once had a bday party in his flat in the projects in East NY. He insisted that he pick me up on his board at the train station, as I'd stick out in that hood. Best bday party ever (and amazing neighbors). RIP Kenard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Sam Segal:

@wmbogart: Free Greedo too! I've played him on the show several times as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Sam Segal:

Kenard sounds like a real one, NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm doctorjazz:

Now, THIS set is in my domain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm ParUbi:

Jazz flute summons me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Sam Segal:

You know you can always count on my for a jazz set, Doc!
Avatar 11:38pm northguineahills:

one of my dear ones I lost in 2019, and I thought that year sucked....

here's to 2020 being an aptheosic (i see glimmers of hope).

I'm seeing my former cellist this weekend. We used have Daniel Carter guest in our band. We have quite a few recordings w/ him. For all of those interested, here's that album on bandcamp: danielcarternyc.bandcamp.com...

FYI: Daniel Carter is one of the special people of the universe, and gives the best hugs when you need them...(and the hardest gigging septegenarian I know, so throw him some coin!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm ParUbi:

loving this murmuring tableau
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm doctorjazz:

Close to the end, I'm konking out, night all! (Thanks, Sam).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Sam Segal:

Sleep well, Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm doctorjazz:

Ribot, he's such a great ACOUSTIC guitarist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Sam Segal:

Glad you dug that one, ParUbi. Susana Santos Silva is part of the thriving Lisbon creative music scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm doctorjazz:

I think he did some soundtrack albums, which were also lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm WR:

Laters doctorjazz.
Avatar 11:54pm northguineahills:

happy thanks, Sam. Thanks for the sounds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Sam Segal:

Thanks for hanging, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm david w:

Super great start to finish, thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Sam Segal:

Appreciate your presence, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm chresti:

Thanks Sam! Good night everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am WR:

Thank you Sam! Love to all the drummer streamers.
