I think we can all agree it's the choice of a new generation.

Mary Wing:

Heh. I'm trying to remember the C&C cola commercials, did they do blind taste tests of the 3 colas?
Avatar 12:07pm
Mary Wing:

C&C cola was the choice in my home when I was a child, heh. And they had lots of other flavors as well. I remember we bought large, flat cases of mixed flavors from a wholesale place in the neighborhood.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
Handy Haversack:

I was in Atlanta growing up -- we called everything Coke. "I'll have a Coke." "What kind of Coke you want, honey?" "Sprite."

Heh heh heh! I had relatives in a part of North Carolina who called all soda "drank" (say it in a southern accent).

P-90:

On those C+C Cola three-way taste test commercials they’d play the game of “bleeping” the names “Coke” and “Pepsi” with a honking horn sound, as if they weren’t allowed to mention them by name. Then at the very end the girl in the ad would yell “COKE AND PEPSI” real fast and the honking sounds would come in late, just as the commercial ended. Another Comments Board-inspired pop-culture flashback...

@MaryWing: The way brand distribution works in NYC is not the same anymore. I miss truly genric small grocery brands. Like just good old “White Rose.” I don’t think “Krasdale” has a soda line?
Avatar 12:39pm
Mary Wing:

And Ann Page, the other A&P brand, heh.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 12:39pm

I can't remember seeing Krasdale soda, no. But there's a seltzer brand I can't remember seeing anywhere outside the city.

@Mary: Black olives (Kalamata even!).
  12:46pm
JakeGould:

I think part of the reason nobody sees discount brand sodas in NYC anymore is overall ethnic diversity in NYC. So I have a variety of sodas available to me thanks to being in a predominantly Arab neighborhood. But I don’t drunk much soda anymore… But it would be nice to have flavors other than “the usual”

@MaryWing: Arabic Pepsi comes in small bottles and has less sugar. Also, Uludağ Gazoz is a Turkish soda that has exactly two flavors: Orange and “clear” which is citrusy. Like $1 a bottle and even cheaper in bulk.
Avatar 1:20pm
Mary Wing:

"Citrusy" should be used for perfume scents and not for soda, if you ask me, heh. What makes it citrusy if it's not predominantly orange flavored?

@Mary: I’m not Turkish so I cannot explain what the real difference is. I just know it’s cheap and readily available. Sometimes the stores here get a seemingly random shipment of “Smarties” (the British M&Ms) so I accept and adapt.

JakeGould:

@Handy: Oh, in other non-hip Brooklyn news, last week during the curfew some racist a-hole posted tons of anti-Chinese flyers around the neighborhood. I almost think that was done not to be anti-Chinese as much as being a sabotage effort for the “Black Lives Matter” protests that happen out here.

The weird thing is I discovered it by seeing three distinct types of flyers: One bunch from a neighborhood person welcoming all people to the neighborhood, another bunch of generic NYC “hate crime is wrong” flyers and the third bunch were from the Guardian Angels. They are making strong efforts to recruit within the Chinese community out here.
Avatar 1:32pm
Mary Wing:

Wow, the Guardian Angels are still a thing here?
  1:33pm
JakeGould:

@Mary: Have a pair of Curtis Sliwa business cards they slip above the ads on subways. And they post flyers looking for info on creeps who flash their hoo-has on the subway. I really live in early 1990s NYC here in Bay Ridge.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 1:39pm

@Jake: I saw an article and some pix about those flyers and the response -- but not the Guardian Angels part!
  1:43pm
Anonymous 7:

Mary seeing Sem’s beret is why I’m anonymous. Until Mark Hurst vanquishes Mary’s spying powers in the conclusive apocalyptic DJ battle, none of us are safe! /s

Yet the quite good music inexorably reels me in.
  1:45pm
JakeGould:

@Handy: Well there you go. And as far as my cynicism of the city to actually investigate it, I know the exact location of the first flyer that was spotted and reported. It is at an intersection where there is one of those NYPD camera array things literally across the street and one other around the corner and right nearby is a business where the sons owner has talked openly about how “unfair” it is that Neo-Nazis can’t march in Germany.

So yeah, I am sure there is a manilla folder withs one flyers and notes in them. But sadly despite all the surveillance I don't think the person who posted that stuff will be “found” and it will just fade into yesterday’s news.

That’s why my own tact is to just take a pic for my own records and tear them down. Not a vigilante but don’t trust the gears of justice for stuff like this.

Hiya Anonymous 7! I applaud your stealth, as long as it prevents you from being a troll or e-asshole. :-)
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Handy Haversack:

@Jake, do you have any idea whether the Google LinkNYC spy towers' displaying the names of those killed by the police was an intentional "pacifying" action from the city/Google? Or a hack? Noticed it while marching.
