Avatar 8:08am WR:

Shopping, then straight to working, busy morning, but listening am will I be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am Jeff Golick:

Glad to know you're out there, @WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Doug Schulkind:

destination: DEFUND!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Jeff Golick:

Right on, @Doug.
Avatar 9:02am hyde:

Avatar 9:02am duke:

Thanks for the disco on Friday. Ready for something else today
Avatar 9:02am TDK60:

Good morning Jeff. So good to see that statement on the top of the page.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Jeff Golick:

How do, @hyde!
Thanks, @duke! Me, too.
@TDK60! Yes!
  9:03am Listener Gregory:

Missed the disco but here for the Sun Ra.
  9:07am Listener Gregory:

When times are tough, it's always good to return to the classics.
Avatar 9:07am TDK60:

Jeff, I went to a march yesterday in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Mostly young Latino and Black people, and a few oldsters like me. We marched from 167th up to Dyckman. Maybe 200 at first, maybe 400 by the end. As soon as we began we got strongly rain drenched but ignored it. Today, seeing reports from all over the world. MASSIVE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @LG! Agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Jeff Golick:

Good work, @TDK60! The images of marches are incredibly sustaining. I've been fretful of COVID, but since my kids have been going, it hardly seems to matter anymore, and we're going to a family march this afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Jeff Golick:

Your band: Joseph Jarman, Malachi Favors, Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell. Also recorded in Boulogne, not Paris!
Avatar 9:26am TDK60:

Did-you-know-this trivia?-dept. The first World Esperanto Congress was held in Boulogne in 1905.
  9:27am Dave Sewelson:

Thanks for the beautiful music Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Jeff Golick:

I'm just the button pusher, @Dave. All thanks to Lester, Joseph, Malachi, Roscoe. And to you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Jeff Golick:

I did not know that, @TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Doug Schulkind:

Apparently, I just made the New York Times alter its obituary for Brother Ah. In the original, Max Roach was said to have played drums. After tagging the author in a tweet noting the error (Roach vocalizes but doesn't drum), the Times altered the obit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Jeff Golick:

Nice work, @Doug! The NYT is getting good at admitting their mistakes, as they keep making them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am doctorjazz:

Hi, Jeff and Outies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Jeff Golick:

Hey, there, @doctorjazz!
Avatar 9:34am WR:

Transitioning to work now. It has been too long since I listened to this album, thank you for playing it Jeff. My LP is in deep storage.
Avatar 9:36am TDK60:

Jeff, I was simply looking at Boulogne on Wikipedia. I don't know Esperanto. A pal who's into languages, turned me onto it. Did you know Esperantists have their own flag? It's green with a white square in the upper left hand corner with a green star in it You needed to know this.
  9:38am Listener Gregory:

I haven't heard this in a long time. The first time I listened to it, I think I was pretty mystified. Now it sounds so... normal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Er, The Times didn't admit its mistake. There is no mention of a correction having been made.
Avatar 9:41am WR:

Thanks for the Washington Heights report TDK60. It is painful for me view news coverage so not keeping up with the actions. I was deeply moved by seeing a demonstration march here in Jackson Heights Queens last Saturday (during Sewelson's show). I am high risk health type so not going out (except my early Sunday morning grocery run) but deeply appreciate those going out giving profile to the issues.
Avatar 9:41am Sem:

Hello and good morning, Jeff, and greets to D:O-ers, and all.
  9:41am DJpeterDE:

Good morning all. Making AEC pancakes. I hear that’s what ESPers ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am doctorjazz:

Great to hear The Art Ensemble!
I'm with you, Jeff, nervous about crowds and COVID-19, but my daughter is going tio a march near us today, and we'll go as well (I'm seeing people every day anyway-just do my best to follow guidelines).
Avatar 9:42am WR:

Ok, really got to focus on work, will continue to listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @Sem!
Good pancakes, @DJpeterDE!
Good work, @WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am David Dichelle:

Always happy to tune in and hear AEOC!
Avatar 9:47am TDK60:

WR, thanks for your comment. I understand your concern. I am also old enough, in the risk category. I tried to stay as distant as possible, not always possible. I wore a mask as did 98% of protesters. (No, science deniers in such a crowd. Interesting huh?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Jeff Golick:

Great to see you, @David! What do they say, "AEOC every week!"?
Swag For Life Member 9:48am zzz:

people in sorrow, such a breathtaking composition and performance, especially that finale thx for playing that
Avatar 9:48am TDK60:

Just saw that William Shatner is an Esperantist. (Sorry, no intention to rile any anti-Esperanto folks.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @zzz. It is really one of the group's high points, I think. Very moving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am David Dichelle:

In times like these, the more Art Ensemble the better.
Avatar 9:52am TDK60:

Yes, People in Sorrow was moving. I imagine it may have been healing in some ways to the French audience, still maybe reeling from their then-recent upheaval. (And upheaval in the US at the time too!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Andrew Waterloo:

Shatneer made a movie in Esperanto
Avatar 10:05am TDK60:

Jeff, I play[ed] guitar, sing at open mikes. I do the "Don't Let Nobody..." version, in major key. The "Ain't Gonna Let.." version is often in minor key.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Jeff Golick:

Wow, @Andrew Waterloo! Greetings, @Andrew Waterloo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am David Dichelle:

Yes, I think he learned just enough Esperanto to read his lines, if I recall correctly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Uncle Michael:

Happy to help!
  10:10am Listener Gregory:

Thanks, @doctorjazz! A grateful nation turns to you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am doctorjazz:

Proud Daddy! : )
  10:11am Listener Gregory:

Please keep Jeff out of my flower beds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Jeff Golick:

And help you did, @UM. Thanks, and glad you heard that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am doctorjazz:

Trouble already...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Uncle Michael:

I've got my ears on, good buddy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am doctorjazz:

That was such fun on Friday! Great job, Jeff (and UM)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am doctorjazz:

UM, I'm still salivating over those ribs you made. What do you use to smoke them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jeff Golick:

My pleasure, @doc!
  10:17am Listener Gregory:

This (Silence) is like the opposite of be-bop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Jeff Golick:

The engineer must've had quite a look on his face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Uncle Michael:

What wood? A bit of fruitwood, apple, mostly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Uncle Michael:

Those ribs came out amazing. Smoked to the bone, tender, but not fall-off-the-bone (which is too tender). They needed a little more smoke bark on the exterior, but that's a quibble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am doctorjazz:

Do you have a smoker?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Uncle Michael:

I'm wiring ethernet cables so if I'm slow to respond, blame the sketti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am doctorjazz:

I grill a lot on a gas grill during the summer- easy, but not thesame...
  10:29am DJpeterDE:

This Leroy Jenkins melody puts me in mind if the riff from “you only live twice”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Jeff Golick:

Ha! I can hear that, @DJpeterDE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am doctorjazz:

I can hear that DJpeterDE as well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am coelacanth∅:

good morning Jeff and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Jeff Golick:

'mornin', @coelacanth∅!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am ParUbi:

Leroy Jenkins! Hey everyone, hi Jeff1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am doctorjazz:

This is lovely! Have to listen for those blues, though...
Avatar 10:39am WR:

Off the charts beautiful music today Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Jeff Golick:

Hi there, @ParUbi!

And yeah, @doc, this album wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
Avatar 10:42am hyde:

Love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Jeff Golick:

Yay, @WR!
  10:47am Listener Gregory:

Soon it will be in tune!
Avatar 10:52am TDK60:

Marisa Anderson's music caught my ear, first hearing on WFMU a few years back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am alanr:

Buenos días, y'all. relevant show, worth re-listening again in the archives.
Avatar 10:55am Wolfgang Muck:

Yoohoo, D-O dearies!! Climbing on a bit late today. Nice ta see yuz!!
  10:57am Listener Gregory:

Jeff, my dictionary is saying that dryads are tree nymphs. Is that what you said? For God's sake, don't call a dryad a naiad, or you will hear about it.
Avatar 10:58am TDK60:

Just heard, the NYC curfew is over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Doug Schulkind:

This is Boereing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @alanr!
Wassup, @Wolfgang!
@LG: I get it. Same with goblins and hobgoblins.
@Doug: coming through in the clutch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Jeff Golick:

OH, and @TDK60: yes! Heard that, too. So glad; it was such a stupid, senseless idea, and seemed only a pretense to allow cops the freedom to assault people at will.
  11:03am Listener Gregory:

Wait, goblins are not hobgoblins? Oh God, I have some apologies to write.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am doctorjazz:

Aww the Times headline, TDK60, end of curfew today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Jeff Golick:

Band: Han Bennink, Derek Bailey, Fred Van Hove, Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Willem Breuker, Buschi Niebergall, Malcolm Griffiths, Paul Rutherford, Willem Van Manen.
  11:06am Listener Gregory:

I moved away from the NYC area almost a year ago. From a distance, I really cannot believe how badly the mayor and police have handled this situation. They have lost not only common sense but all sense of irony.
  11:09am Listener Gregory:

Protests against police violence? Let's put on riot gear and start swinging the batons!
Avatar 11:09am TDK60:

There is more danger ahead. But right now I feel so good about the young generation! I'm with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Jeff Golick:

Hi there. Anyone looking for a little historical context for the current moment in the GOP would probably appreciate this long read: www.theatlantic.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am doctorjazz:

It's pretty crazy in NYC right now, no question. Jersey has had demonstrations, seems mostly peaceful, even mostly masked and Socially Distanced here. Not sure why...
  11:38am Listener Gregory:

Incredible sequencing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Jeff Golick:

Awww, glad you're enjoying, @LG.
  11:43am Listener Gregory:

Joe Henderson on tenor (I looked it up).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Jeff Golick:

So good. Joe kind of gets overlooked?
  11:48am Listener Gregory:

Nowadays, definitely.
Avatar 11:49am WR:

Amen, amen TDK60, regarding generation currently come of age. And yes, Listener Gregory, when a large loud peaceful demonstration went past my building and I saw police swooping in my first reaction was to have my phone out recording with me visible hanging out my 3rd story window to easily be seen that we're watching f&#*ers so don't pull no shit. Turned out they were just being bit more aggressive than necessary monitoring the demonstration but i feel they also need to know they are being closely monitored to keep them in check.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am doctorjazz:

Get to eat soon (been doing "Intermittent Fasting", no food 16 hours, then 8 hours to eat. Supposed to very good metabolically, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc). Ready for food...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Jeff Golick:

That wasn't discussed, @doctorazz, in the adoption papers.
Avatar 11:53am StringOFperils:

Well, missed this episode in real-time. But I'll get back to in the archive, Jeff. Hope you're keeping safe and well, and the same goes for the D:O community at large. Cheers !
Avatar 11:54am TDK60:

Just back from a quick walk to the cornershop for bread. Lovely day out. (NYC)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am doctorjazz:

The generation coming of age does seem "with it", engaged-my girls pay attention. But they're also the age with the worst voting turnout. If they don't come out in November...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am doctorjazz:

(I don't impose eating/fasting rules, @Jeff)
Avatar 11:55am WR:

True that doctorjazz. Regarding voting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jeff Golick:

Hey, great to see ya, @StringOFperils!
Avatar 11:56am hyde:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am David Dichelle:

Thanks Jeff for the great show - and the link to the insightful article.
Avatar 11:56am TDK60:

Thanks Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am doctorjazz:

(Did lose about 10 lbs this way, without much other change in what I was doing)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Doug Schulkind:

So much pleasure happened here. Thank you, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am doctorjazz:

Thanks, Jeff, terrific show!
Great week all, see you around these parts!
  11:59am Listener Gregory:

You rose to the challenge, Doug. Thanks.
  12:00pm Listener Gregory:

Avatar 12:00pm WR:

Thanks so much Jeff.. Have enjoyed every note, inflection, sound of today's DO. Couldn't keep up with comments, but you know I respect and love you all.
  12:00pm Listener Gregory:

Doug's comment threw me off. He is always taking over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks so much for being here, y'all. Shout out to @hyde, @David D., @TDK60, @doc, @Doug, @LG (always happy to be called Doug); @WR, and all!
