ARB swings to the other Belgian Popcorn. Very passionate vocalists, naive orchestrations, irreverent pranks.

Try to improve my functioning by having tasty sounds going in background during work. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad was one of the first movies I saw in theater as a child. Fun and formative.

When I first moved to portland the police would stop me all the time thinking I was a black guy - I used to wear a black hoodie all the time didn't know the hoodie was a gang thing coming from the rural area. Was always crazy to turn around and see their face when they discovered I was white.

WR, Your avatar, the baby. When I first saw Captain Beefbeart on this afternoon dance show called 9th Street West in 1966, they had that babies face on the drum head. I thought it was the Gerber baby, which I loved, But it's not! But no matter, it's a great baby none the less.

I tuned in just to catch Heems refrence to Michael Stewart. His name has come up a few times for obvious reasons as of late and it is bringing me back to being of the first times at 9 years old I really was absorbing situations like this and how I was trying to reconcile how what he did in anyway justified his demise and understanding maybe the police were not what I thought and had been taught they were

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm
StringOFperils:

Billy Jam's show is good. I've listened a couple of times. I don't get to hear half of that stuff ever, so by all means, if anyone is feeling generous with their large comprehensive hip-hop collection, do a long radio show, please.

Otis- I only have a fraction of what I used to- I sold most of my record collection to finance a film lol choices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
WR:

@109, Franco. Don't remember where the baby image first came from, but used by Beefheart in promoting the Safe As Milk album. There was a full size bumper sticker inside the first run or two of the album. I got my copy signed by Vliet years later when he was touring in the late 70s. 78 I think.

Solo - Here too, purged several times moving around the US/Canada. Re-purchased a bunch over the past decade that I sold off years back, but have dragged around some stuff for 30 years...like the entire Ultimate Breaks & Beats LPs, stuff like that.

WR, I still have my copy of Safe As Milk I found in the cut-out bin at Kresges when I was 15. It didn't have the sticker. But I did get Don to sign my copy of Trout Mask Replica when he was at the radio station down the street from my house in 1978.

Otis, A bunch got stolen a few years back out of my car after a gig. You can imagine how stupid I felt....I had just purchased an insurance policy a few weeks prior though and had meticulously catalogued everything so I got lucky and could replace a lot of them with the insurance settlement, definitely not all though.
Avatar 1:33pm

Omg ARB seriously that sucks! happened to me one time, someone stole a whole crate of records while I was loading but they were spotted by friend in a free pile outside a record store. I got a few back. But geez I coulda told them they were too scratched up and used to re sell!

ARB:

that's my psa for renters insurance, i never had it before and panic bought it when Elysian Park next to my house caught on fire
Avatar 1:39pm
Otis Fodder:

Ugh, that's horrible ARB. I do know how that feels, having a milk crate of 12" singles stolen from a DJ booth years ago (at a club City Nights in SF, late 80s). I remember they got my Aqua Boogie 12"... of course I replaced it easy, but still, steal my Parliament and my feet failed me then as they would now. --- Renters Insurance however, for sure, been keeping that up for years as you never know.
Avatar 1:39pm

Wow Solo... you and I both. The crate killed. Sucked so much.

The worst record theft I've had to endure was when my car was stolen while I was sleeping on the beach in Santa Cruz. Earlier that day I had bought The Blues Project Live At Town Hall and Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny, and they were in the car with all my money.
Avatar 1:46pm
Otis Fodder:

Sorry to hear of that Franco. Loss of vinyl + cash... but stealing Santo and Johnny... noooooo! One of the greatest instrumentals ever imho.
