Heterodyning the ultrasound is using interference between a (usually) constant frequency and the one you want to hear. Playing them together produces sum and difference frequencies. The sum is also too high to hear, the difference creeps down into the audible range, but it goes down as the sound you measure goes up.

Also doubling of the police on the streets in NYC 4,000 to 8,000. They will now being on 12 hour (!!!) shifts from 5:00am to 5:00pm and visa-versa. What a great idea! Have very tired cops on the street! What could possibly go wrong?

Gaylord (ages and ages ago) this is very similar to me re: working from home and the radio. feel like i can listen and comment with more consistency now. because i'm on a rolling rota where i can start at 6am or end at midnight or anything in between i get a healthy cross-section of shows as well

Many bats around here in FL, I like watching them dive for mosquitoes. I sometimes will throw a golf ball up in the air, and watch them dive for them until they realize the ball isn't an insect/

There's an owl family acrost the pond from me.

I saw a hawk eating a small snake yesterday while riding my bike through the woods..

I'm like 4 miles from LGA and on a flight path (I have easily seen my bldg. from a plane), but now when one comes overheard it's major news. During that last conversation I was binocular stalking a cedar waxwing behind our bldg.!

@TomFromGlasgow: As someone who worked from home before it was cool (2001 to 2011) I can say this time around it feels better because everyone is in this. When I was first working from home I was some “weirdo” with odd hours odd pay and such.

Now that we’re all in on this, the workflow is better. And honestly don’t miss the office politics nonsense.

This was a really wonderful conversation Olivia and Stuart. Much thanks for broadcasting it. I was canoeing the Kankakee River along the Indiana / Illinois border yesterday .. a magnificent soundscape there... and apparently a documented habitat for the Indiana Bat too.

We have 3 barn owls by me in north jersey, at night they call to each other up and down the mountain. It’s really nice when you have the windows open at night
