Hello Michael!

Oh wow! Chauncey Howell! There’s this Twitter thread about boring celebrity encounters and he’s one of them for me: I was a teen in the 1980s, walking down the boardwalk and listening to some tape on my Sanyo walkman knock off and I see the one and only Chauncy Howell, walking out of a public beach restroom on the beach around Coney Island Avenue and the boardwalk. Struggling to walk in the sand, and adjusting himself after doing his business.

Junior Brown used to play City Winery very often. His invented half steel guitar and regular guitar is called "guit steel". He had a regular gig at a club called The Continental in Austin on Sunday nights. He is great live. However, as Michael says, he tends to play the same songs the same way at each show. They are great songs. So it works.

Recalls the fadeout of Ray Charles's "Them That Got" -- "I need a hamburger -- a hot dog woudn't be too bad..."
  12:05pm Listener Robert:

I find it a lot easier to make pizza. Somehow when I pile up the dough thick enough to make a roll or loaf, the baking results aren't as good.
  12:05pm paul:

Like Amos & Andy, but not funny.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 12:06pm Hoboken Jack:

I had my first ever beyond burger this week (never let it be said that I pass up free food) and it was... ok. I won't rush to have another but, if meat vanishes, I'm glad to know that chemical concoction is out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm WoodsOfNH:

The veggie burgers made by The Herbivorous Butcher are also pretty good. Actually, everything we've ever bought from them has been pretty good.

Hi Michael, same here not a big meat consumer.
Beyond Burger are awesome, worth the extra occational $!
Gardein brand are decent too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm WoodsOfNH:

I've been down to just the occasional piece of fish for about a dozen years. Actually, that's turned into mostly shellfish. Having oysters tonight. I hope I don't stab myself.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Gaylord Fields:

I rate Impossible Burger as my favorite. Beyond will do, and Lighthouse is a step down from that but still OK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Ha ha! An old college pal of my sweetie was one of the main scientists developing the Impossible Burger. Fascinating project. (i haven't tried it yet)

Ochre Ogre: It’s been available in stores only relatively recently as compared to the others. To my palate, it lives in the uncanny valley of fake meat.
Avatar 12:25pm Michael Shelley:

@Gaylord - where do you get the Impossible retail?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hey everyone sorry I’m late
  12:32pm Ochre Ogre:

Gaylord- Ah okay, now I'm really curious. Was a vegetarian for 10 yrs except fish. I broke with a mad craving for a cheeseburger, with cheddar. Never American cheese, might as well eat yellow vinyl!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Frank In Queens:

I'm old school veg, so Amy's California Burgers are still my fave. But I do enjoy the new generation of burgers too, with Beyond being my preference. Beyond Sausage was on sale this week, so we picked up a package of those even though Field Roast and Tofurkey are our preference.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, everyone, back in action.

Hey, SC Lizzie, spodiodi.

We had Beyond Sausage in my "sausage" and peppers with broccoli rabe this week. Good stuff!

Milton Berle - no comment
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Handy Haversack:

We use Field Roast as a staple. Most of our dishes have one kind or another in it. I sure wish they weren't individually wrapped in plastic, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@Michael: They’re not too widely distributed, but you can find them at Fairway. Evidently, Wegmans also carries them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Gaylord Fields:

@Handy: Field Roast wins for its frankfurters, though the plastic casings are a bit of a hassle.
  12:40pm Ochre Ogre:

@Handy You struck a nerve, one of my faves with Orecchiette, garlic and olive oil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm spodiodi:

Handy -- we relied on that as a staple for years in much the same way -- put a little in everything
  12:42pm mike east:

Recently tried “no evil” “sausage and it wins over the field roast because my 4 yr old will eat it
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Handy Haversack:

@OO: Which? Broc. rabe? We love it. I just use a ton of garlic, a good bit of crushed red pepper, a little black pepper, a little salt and kind of steam it in the olive oil.

Man, I come here for the number-one hits, but I stay for the vegetarian chit-chat! You all rock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm spodiodi:

now, we eat way less processed stuff
(field roast needs NO SALT) 8/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Doug in JC:

We’re not high budget. We’re not low budget. We’re something new
  12:45pm Ochre Ogre:

Gaylord, True that. Field Roast Mexican Chipotle for some spice are the bomb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Gaylord Fields:

@gaylord: The Golden Age of Non-Dairy Cheese as well. To me, the breakthroughs made on that front are way bigger than on the fake meat front.
