Yooo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Phillippe Bastille:

Hey coel
  12:03am BH:

Spent the evening watching the stream for the Libertarian Party convention.. which might turn out to be the only convention this year where somebody votes to nominate Godzilla for President
Avatar 12:03am Keilidh:

GREETINGS! GOOD EVENING!

Good evening Keilidh

Vermin Supreme made it to the 4th and final ballot, finishing in 3rd with 206 votes. Interpret that how you wish.

This track is amazing

HELL YEAH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am colinmahns:

boo, RIP to vermin supreme, a real one

Good evening, Keilidh and cryptobiotic organisms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am ParUbi:

Hey everyone
  12:10am BH:

a reminder that things are pretty serious when even a party that is very skeptical of governmental authority decided that they couldn't put a thousand-ish people in the same general area for a convention this month
Avatar 12:10am Keilidh:

omg that's such a bummer!!
Avatar 12:10am Keilidh:

RIP to an icon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats, Ronnie James Dio left us ten years ago already. What tales from the crypt could he tell us now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am colinmahns:

the libertarian party was both too cowardly to nominate vermin supreme, a libertarian socialist, to the presidential ticket, and too cowardly to congregate and disobey the CDC :)
  12:12am BH:

(Verm's still alive, although he wasn't wearing a boot on his head during the convention)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am mariano:

Hey Keilidh, crew, cryptoids!
  12:13am JakeGould:

I like the fact that libertarians are predominantly white guys who are extreme about random nonsense nobody with real problems would ever care about.

Anyway, hello Keilihd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Mr. Pumpy:

Hello, Keilidh and crew. horns up!
  12:15am BH:

for a party whose members are probably reasonably familiar with technology, some of them were grappling with unmuting themselves on Zoom tonight. They're better than Republicans, FWIW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am mariano:

  12:16am andy._.mill:

The attention to detail on the archive is truly commendable
Avatar 12:16am Keilidh:

i think these zoom conferences need more green screens. and blood!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Rory:

BH, you’re expecting too much of sociopaths. I never emotionally upset cuz it’s the same result..,
  12:16am JakeGould:

Wonder when Zoom “dance parties” will stop. I mean nobody likes that stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am colinmahns:

i have a bunch of assorted crap on my desk, and i just want to set fire to it to clean it
  12:18am BH:

I wonder how many Skype people are hating that Zoom became more popular than Skype for this moment in history.

But yeah, if you don't have a good background, make one up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am colinmahns:

@JakeGould it's coming. was talking to my girlfriend last night that so much of these are starting to end as summer's starting and the reopening is reopening.
  12:19am JakeGould:

@BH: When Microsoft bought Skype that’s when any reasonable growth was trashed. Microsoft decided that Skype was their answer to Apple’s FaceTime.
  12:20am BH:

yeah, Bill Gates forgot to give the Skype team a heads up before the pandemic. Allegedly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am Rory:

Zuckerdouche wants to get inside yer head
  12:21am JakeGould:

@BH: Bill Gates has had no role in Microsoft since 2014.
  12:23am v-dawg:

Skype updated itself automatically, even tho i turned off auto-update. It deleted all my settings. It was really frustrating. I still hold a grudge.
Zoom...so far, so good.
  12:23am BH:

yeah, no official role.. a lot of his net worth is still Microsoft shares (that obviously he can't all move at once for logical reasons)
  12:23am JakeGould:

@colinmahns: Ditto to comedy shows and improv shows on streaming. Nobody cares. Sounds cold and harsh, but I think the improv world (for example) has had a nice and bloated 20+ year run in NYC. Something new.
  12:24am JakeGould:

Something new PLEASE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am colinmahns:

yes, let improv die!
Avatar 12:25am egal:

Nothing is truly improvised.
  12:25am lis-boner pasc:

@Keilidh: What’s that GIF of? Nina Hagen?
Avatar 12:26am Keilidh:

@jake - danielle dax!
  12:26am JakeGould:

I genuinely miss going to shows at the original UCB on 22nd Street but even then I was getting to the point of “How many of these crappy shows do I have to tolerate because a friend or a friend of a friend is in it?”
  12:27am BH:

and if there's any doubt, i'll just note my stance on conspiracy theories is the more complex the theory, the less likely it is. Also the government isn't actually that great at pulling off conspiracies because it's the government.
Avatar 12:27am Keilidh:

if you dudes would get into the small-community live streams happening on Twitch (the non-gaming ones, or gaming if that's your thing) I think you'd see a small percent just how much NEW STUFF people are actually doing!
  12:28am JakeGould:

@Keilidh: Yeah, but how to find them. I see some cool stuff on Instagram streams and such but it’s not like anything is easy to find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am colinmahns:

jack am is the best twitch channel. has a little bit of everything
  12:28am JakeGould:

And Danielle Dax! Woo!
  12:29am BH:

the phrase "jack am" made me think of what an AM Radio equivalent to a Jack FM station would involve. Probably a shuffled lineup of various archived talk radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am colinmahns:

6 hour random shuffle of mike and the mad dog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am Rory:

Twitch is great if you’re looking in the right places.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am Rory:

Social Media is filled with so much crap these days it’s overwhelming sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am coelacanth∅:

good morning portugal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am Ken From Hyde Park:

On his Friday afternoon show, Uncle Michael runs a Twitch video of his studio.
Avatar 12:32am northguineahills:

Hallos Keilidh and early morning/afternoon/late night peeps!
  12:32am JakeGould:

On a positive note, in the 10 weeks since “work from home” started in NYC I have not waved at so many strangers in my life. I mean you wear a mask and walk into places and that is the best way to indicate “Hey! I’m cool.”

Ditto with asking so many strangers “How you doing?”
Avatar 12:32am northguineahills:

(adding to Ken) live on UM's playlist...
Avatar 12:33am northguineahills:

@Jake: I was always like that, even in NYC. At first my Bushwick neighbors thought it strange, but they came around...
  12:34am BH:

I remember the predecessor of Twitch (Justin.tv). Twitch did a pretty amazing job of finding their own thing since all I remembered of Justin.tv was that some people started streaming old pro wrestling on there before people told them about that whole copyright concept.
  12:35am properpooridgeperson:

I do love me some doooooom metal
  12:36am JakeGould:

@northguineahills: You wore masks when you moved to Bushwick before ’rona?
Avatar 12:41am egal:

After SARS, people in Chinatown have worn masks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am Ken From Hyde Park:

Since his avatar appears to be a person with a mask, I'm guessing yes.
  12:42am JakeGould:

@egal: Wearing masks when one is sick is a very common thing in Asian countries. The only reason it seems more prominent now is that there are more people from those countries in the U.S. nowadays.
Avatar 12:43am egal:

@Jake Ah, didn't know that. I just thought was awfully smart when the rona hit.
Avatar 12:44am Keilidh:

i loved wearing a mask all the time in Japan! without it I got sick constantly
  12:46am JakeGould:

@egal: It has been a cultural practice as far back as the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak and even before I believe. But like many things non-WASPs abandoned when moving to the U.S., that stuff was left behind. Nowadays being an immigrant is a whole different thing in the U.S. so people just keep their cultural norms more often than not.

@Keilidh: Welp… I think the hot summer trend will be masks!
  12:48am Alexandertheaverage:

I like this song. It’s cacophonous.
  12:50am Sigurður:

@JakeGould do you know allot of Nowadays immigrants?
Avatar 12:51am northguineahills:

@Jake: No, but I said hello to all of my neighbors and random people...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am Lisboner Pasc:

It's cool that in Taiwan the parents are really forbidden from allowing their kids to go to school if the kids are sick, there's a huge sense of civic responsibility and part of that is in the mask wearing. It's excessive, and the desire to cover up is a big part of culture there as I perceive it, but cool that, to take another eg., shop workers are responsible for carting out their rubbish for the bin collectors, and almost all public toilets I encountered (love me a supermarket bog!) are spic and span.
Avatar 12:53am northguineahills:

When I lived in Japan in the late 80s as a kid, it was considered rude not to wear a mask if one was sick. I called them germ diapers. As Jake mentioned, it dates back to the 1918 Spanish Flu in Japan, and spread throughout the Japanese sphere of influence as their empire grew ij the 1920s-1930s, especially Korea, China and Taiwan...
  12:54am JakeGould:

Taiwan is a very cool country.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Lisboner Pasc:

btw Great Show!!! Thanks to skeleton crew and Keilidh :-)
  12:54am JakeGould:

Difficult movie decisions?
Avatar 12:55am northguineahills:

Julie should be in here for free tonight (she did a 4 hour goth dance party on GTDS stream Friday).
Avatar 12:55am Keilidh:

ty!! ty for tunin in - big props to the skeleton crew indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am Lisboner Pasc:

I mean the masks thing... I am totally for wearing them here, in order not to infect others... but in (pre-new-normal-cloud-collapse-going-inside-shops-feeling-scared-waving-at-strangers-era) it really is too much... most viruses are too small for masks to do anything, as I understand it. Just seemed part of a very scared culture putting up barriers which (at that time) weren't necessary. Like how it seems so many in Taiwan are afraid of going in the sea at beaches. Typhoons do of course spoil your picnics, but they're not every day, and even if ghosts DO live in the sea (people believe this and avoid the water) then why not say ni hao?
  1:00am JakeGould:

@LisbonerPasc: Viruses themselves are small, but they don’t like fly in the air at their small size. They exist in droplets in the air that masks can stop.

A virus alone in the air is pretty much dead in seconds. But it can survive in a droplet. Thus masks to protect you from sneezing droplets that can contain the virus. Or droplets getting into you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Lisboner Pasc:

@JakeGould: Aye you're not wrong, I hope people wear them now
Avatar 1:08am Keilidh:

i have a pretty intense opinion about going out, wearing masks, etc for the same reasons i've been outside maybe thrice a month.
Avatar 1:08am Keilidh:

i don't really understand why people can't just take a virus/disease seriously.
  1:10am JakeGould:

@Keilidh: Well, you’ll hate me but I have been out very regularly. Make sure to avoid crowds, always wear a mask and such.

I will say bars in Brooklyn are horrible. Probably elsewhere too. They serve to-go beer and drinks and there is always a non-socially distanced and unmasked day drunk crowd in front of them. Clogging up streets. That is sick.
  1:11am JakeGould:

I went to Coney Island last week to get a jar of beach sand and honestly everyone was some variant of stupid. Very tense experience.
Avatar 1:12am Keilidh:

Yeah that is waaaaaack, Jake, the bars. I'm not even ordering out. The only thing I order is groceries/essentials. I go out for absolute necessity. But then again, I have health issues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am Rory:

I go out for long walks almost everyday. I just wear a mask and avoid people (like I’ve been doing way before the pandemic).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am Rory:

I can’t help but get out in the sun, makes the spirit feel good!
Avatar 1:17am Keilidh:

That's great, probably better to do that now before another wave hits or some ugggghh. I would love to go out for a walk sometime soon.
Avatar 1:18am Keilidh:

I used to walk so much!! So much music! And air!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Lisboner Pasc:

Holy mackerel, haven't heard this Melvins choon in yonks!! So good, Gluey Porch Treatments is one of those albums I'll always go back to or at least will mentally note to.
Just to get this straight, I totally approve of mask-wearing during COVID-19 crisis, but not outside of pandemics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am coelacanth∅:

i wear a mask solely to appease people...to help people be more comfortable (even though i don't think comfort is what most people need)
- and only within stores.
if my body entertained this particular corona virus it is so long ago i'm not contagious any longer. if not i'm not afraid of getting it.
there are points of view that you may not understand that are just as valid as your own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am coelacanth∅:

...(although i'm not sure wearing the mask in stores helps people feel more comfortable, since the mask makes me sniffle)
  1:21am Sigurður:

Yeah, it's the people with health issues that is the main reason why I follow the social distance guidelines. Protecting a portion of mankind whom people so easily forget, part of social welfare I truly agree with decuting a part of my moneyshare.
Avatar 1:21am Keilidh:

it was a good Melvins, Pasc!!
  1:22am Agent Peter:

how do you know you're not contagious any longer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Rory:

I had back surgery in February so I haven’t been active like used to be. I’ve been reduced to walking and stretching. I’ll recover and get back to normal though. Anyway, great show again and fuck covid! Wear a mask Yada Yada MUSIC!
  1:24am grtyvr:

killer set.
Avatar 1:25am Keilidh:

ty ty! thank the dark lord for fkn MUSIC
Avatar 1:27am northguineahills:

well, as Jake said, it's mostly water droplet born, so a sniffle, or exhaling can spread the virus. However, just exhaling means the droplets are miniscule and the virus would die relatively soon, sniffles a bit longer, coughs a lot longer, and sneezes, quite a while. And Cthulhlu help you if you expel mucus... That said, I only wear a mask if I'm going somewhere w/ a dense patronage, like a grocery store or hardware store. The gas station, not so much.
Avatar 1:28am ryon:

I feel that Trent Reznor owes a huge debt to JG "Foetus" Thirlwell. If you like NiN you might like Foetus.
Avatar 1:29am northguineahills:

Most test show if you were symptomatic and are mostly recovering, you're no longer contagious. If you were asymptomatic, you wouldn't know anyways unless tested.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am coelacanth∅:

Agent Peter in my case i had symptoms about 2 months ago, starting the day after i was exposed to my niece who'd just come home from l.a.; and 2-3 days after much exposure to someone who was sniffly who at the time was still working in a restaurant as a waitperson.
... and no symptoms since then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am mariano:

Trouble saying "crimson"? With me it's words like "senator", something that started happening in the last year or so. I try to say "senator" and I sound like I'm drunk.
Avatar 1:29am northguineahills:

If you like Jim Thirwell (nice lad, met him a few times), you might like Venture Bros.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Lisboner Pasc:

"Toronto" in my british accent is a pain in the Ahhhsss
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Lisboner Pasc:

So excited to go on my Melvins revisit, thanks Keilidh! We were all right as teenagers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am coelacanth∅:

Rory that's intense and i wish you timely recovery.
  1:33am Agent Peter:

coelacanth0
you may have it and be asymptomatic. best thing to do is get tested. CityMD does both, so you can tell if you had it and/or if you have it
Avatar 1:33am Keilidh:

@rory - i didnt' see your comment @1:23! that sucks, i feel for you. time may not be real, but it does heal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Lisboner Pasc:

Ditto, 'as melhores' Rory! ("The betters' in Portuguese, nice way of wishing a speedy recovery)
Avatar 1:33am Keilidh:

@mariano - yeah i guess everyone has that kinda word! haha
Avatar 1:36am northguineahills:

Hope your back gets oorrect soon, Rory, at least you're not missing much outside your pad in the meantime (glass half full, I suppose, maybe, who am I kidding?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am mariano:

Missed your comment above, rory - wishing you a speedy recovery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am Rory:

Wow, thanks you guys! :)
Avatar 1:38am northguineahills:

I have an easier time understanding Brazilian Portuguese then Iberian Portuguese (slang, euphenisms, accent, etc)
  1:38am JakeGould:

People should wear masks because you yourself could be symptomatic and put others at risk or you are — gotta be blunt — not as immune as you think you are.

Remember, the long term effects of this all are not known and just because you were infected at one point doesn't clearly indicate you are all clear as well.

I go out and I am careful, but I take what is happening seriously.
Avatar 1:39am Keilidh:

@jake yes!
Avatar 1:40am Keilidh:

the asymptomatic thing is what many people seem not to consider. it's okay to be skeptical or unbothered, but i think it's important to be mindful and safe.
  1:40am JakeGould:

FWIW, what is being discovered with kids who had no obvious symptoms but suffering inflammatory diseases like Kawasaki disease is utterly scary.
  1:41am Sigurður:

Hehe, I remember the time Eyjafjallajökull was erupting and then "the world" pronuncing EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am coelacanth∅:

Peter it's possible but very unlikely i'd have no symptoms, given my chronic physical situation.
also the tests still have a high degree of inaccuracy, and going to get one would expose myself to a portion of the population with a higher than average likelyhood of having the virus.
  1:41am JakeGould:

You know how shingles is dormant Chicken Pox that “awakens” in adults at some point? There is no reason not to believe this is not the same thing.
  1:44am Sigurður:

But there are only about 370000 that speak Icelandic
  1:47am JakeGould:

@coelacanth∅: I honestly don’t believe your self assessment. In mid-February I had a sudden onset of the worst “flu” of my life. Headaches and pain for days prior that I attributed to overworking. Then I get a 103.5F and then 6 days later I am “better” with no fever but I feel like a cripple. I mean I could barely walk even… From the “flu”…

The symptoms of dry cough, shortness of breath, headaches and no real “flu” symptoms past that are the keys for me.

I volunteered to donate plasma but no response since I had no official test… But if I went to the hospital in February they would have just sent me home with generic “Rest up…” instructions.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am coelacanth∅:

jake i didn't say i had it i said i might have. and i said i wasn't afraid of getting it. i did not say anything about being immune to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am Rory:

@Jake - Me and others also say the same. I haven’t been sick in 15 years then I got this crippling flu like symptoms. Lingered for 3 weeks...

  1:55am JakeGould:

@Rory: Yup. Sounds about right.

@coelacanth∅: “i wear a mask solely to appease people...to help people be more comfortable…” If you believe you have had it, you had it. And you should engage in preventative measures not to “ appease” people but because you don’t want to run the risk of spreading. That’s about all I have to say about that.
Avatar 1:55am Keilidh:

@duck i shoulda thrown in some underworld honestly! wouldn't be mad!

  2:02am Agent Peter:

and folks, if you are doing the right thing and wearing a mask, do it the right way. don't need to see you covering your chin or your forehead. it's not complicated: nose and mouth are the target area
Avatar 2:03am Keilidh:

yes yes it's all alright as long as ppl wear masks its ok dudes! just stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am Sigurður:

Of course we should all be safe and aware, but let us not forget that we are human beings and that the probability of getting a “regular" sickness which are common in our life time is more likely. Yes absolutely we should be aware and cautious of the pandemic, but when people are unsure and of a sniffle or a cough and start thinking about some of the most serious scenarios, this is not healthy for any human being! I mean seriously if your mind is telling your body that you're very sick...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am mariano:

Oh wow, Keilidh, that 10-hour Norwegian train ride! One thing I like about Icelandic is that it still has the eth, the "d" with the slash through it, like in Old English. English lost some cool letters with the advent of printing, since the letters came originally from the Continent. Eth, thorn, ash, yogh...

Here's something interesting I stumbled onto when I was in Reykjavík: photos.app.goo.gl...
Avatar 2:24am northguineahills:

@Keilidh: Icelandic had a more archaic grammar form then other germanic languages, and then there's the letters that have been phased out in the rest of Europe since the dawn of the printing press, at least the pronunciation makes since once you learn it.

Considering that Finnish Uralic (some debate it's a Indo European isolate) and Sami is pure Uralic, it doesn't surprise me, those languages are hard for Indo-European speakers.

@Sigurður:I understand Brazilian Portueguese, b/tn music and the many Brazilians in Florida. I'm fluent in (mexican) spanish.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Sigurður:

@ Ngh ok man, yeah I'm fully aware of the laungage tree. I lived about 3 years in Norway and thought after about one year in Oslo that I had the Norwegian laungage pretty much sussed. I went further north and realized that no no I've not got the laungage sussed. Listening to the Nordic languages with an Icelandic ear has been such a joy in my life! Even on the western isles of Scotland mixtured in in the English lang with a wii bit of Gael. Mexican Spanish that's sounds like a good thing to know. Which part of Mexico does you're Spanish come from? My Portuguese comes from Bahia, Brazil

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Sigurður:

Aight cool, the results of the laungage tree is that you have two types of Norse, southern Norse and Northern Nors. Danish is is Southern Norse and can result in like having a potato in the back of the throat sorta like Dutch. Long story short, Denmark invaded Norway and also they have sooooo many dialects.
