  11:08am David G:

I need the single malt to cope with the weather here. Which is a mile from Newcastle Airport in glorious Geordie land.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Frank In Queens:

  12:09pm clarke:

wait! is the vinyl out yet?!?? how'd i miss that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Handy Haversack:

@Michael Shelley: bell pepper, onion, MS Farms patties, spinach, mozzarella, queso de papa, cheddar, Herdez hot salsa, eggs. With cocktails. Kind of in heaven over here.

*The tunes are also a crucial ingredient!*
  12:10pm juniper:

Thank you so much! The art is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Corey:

Hello Michael and listeners!
Avatar 12:11pm Michael Shelley:

some folks hate the Herdez - I love it - very salty
  12:13pm clarke:

i vote YES on Herdez green salsa
Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Squints In Plymouth:

Herdez is solid. No tomato paste, as I recall. Old El Paso had a great salse until about 1995 or so when they tomato-pasted it up in the name of thickness. Simple cut-up stuff is where it's at. La Mexicana's is great although it pains me I can't get their salse verde here back east. It was a tomatillo salsa but not pasty.
  12:14pm JG:

@clarke I'm such a fan of the busy holly, there are times I prefer him to the actually Holly. Well alright w the two kids w toy guitar Christmas presents. the best
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Mister Dobalina:

You're on fire today, Michael!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Handy Haversack:

Herde supply is hit or miss in Greenpoint. I am thinking of ordering cases from la casa.

Oh, this Kirsty. My gosh. So great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Hughie Considine:

Yeah, this is really one of her greatest pure pop confections.
Avatar 12:15pm Michael Shelley:

Of the cheap brands Chi-Chi's is surprisingly solid

Never had the Herdez. Will have to investigate...

Gary Busey peaked so early in his career.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Frank In Queens:

I'm not a big fan of bio-pics (especially when it comes to musicians) but it's been so long since I've seen Busey Holly that I think it might warrant revisiting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Hughie Considine:

John Lennon could make a guitar speak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Frank In Queens:

I frequent that aisle often clarke, but I don't recall ever seeing that label.
  12:18pm clarke:

with commercials?? nah!!!
Avatar 12:18pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Frank In Queens: Who do you want to play you in your bio-pic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Frank In Queens:

No commercials on PBS!
  12:18pm joshy:

just read about Kristy Mccaul’s horrible death by boat propellor are age 41. OMG.
Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Squints In Plymouth:

Sometimes Gary Busey's career decline seems almost willful.
  12:18pm paul:

George Harrison could make his weep. (Or was that Eric Clapton?)
  12:18pm joshy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Handy Haversack:

CTown is the most reliable source around here, Frank.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Hughie Considine:

Biopics always focus on the the obvious. A Wham biopic from the POV of Andrew Ridgeley would be a refreshing change.
  12:19pm clarke:

ah. i think the average ads per hour has gone up to 18 minutes - jeez
  12:19pm SeanG:

Bobby Parker did this originally---I think that's where John got it from

great show Michael!!
  12:19pm JOFF:

Weird fact:When i was an 8 year old, Gary Busey was my favourite actor!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Frank In Queens:

@Todd: First of all, the story of my life would be extremely boring, and unwatchable, so forget even trying to document it. But if you insisted on telling the story of my life, just make a documentary. Thanks in advance.
  12:20pm DG:

Didn't know this version of "Watch Your Step," but in that famous John Lennnon interview (on that NYC FM station) he played the original & said the Beatles used to do it on stage. It appears that the Allman Bros. were "influenced" by this song a bit too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Pedro in Arlington:

Watch Your Step cover of Bobby Parker, who did it in 61. Look for hoopla for free music and audio books from libraries.
  12:20pm clarke:

of course, edward g. robinson would play frank!!
  12:21pm JG:

Busey pretty great in that Steven Segal movie. Also the one w Ice t
  12:21pm clarke:

yah yah - see?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Hughie Considine:

Say what you will, Busey was pretty scary as Mr. Joshua in Lethal Weapon. I'd like to see Mr. Joshua face off against Brother Mouzone from season 2 of the Wire.
  12:21pm DG:

Yes, MacColl's needless, horrible death is one of the saddest stories in rock. Think there was a lawsuit too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Candy-O'67:

Yeah, Joshy, she did have a tragic death! I lived her. Sucks she died so young
  12:22pm clarke:

well busey is pretty scary as buddy holly too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Handy Haversack:

There's a whole *nother* story to be told about WFMU and food. Obviously, Michael's pix and Jordon's recipe help has been invaluable lately. But on Thu. Trouble's show drove me to distraction, first, with talk of tortilla and Catalonian tomato-and-bread and, THEN, with ZZ Top mentions, which just meant all I could picture was the gatefold from Tres Amigos. That was it. I was a goner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Candy-O'67:

*loved her
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Hughie Considine:

True, @clarke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Handy Haversack:

@DG: 100 percent agreement. Hard to hear without tearing up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Frank In Queens:

Damn it, now I'm regretting the decision to make lentil soup tonight...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Hughie Considine:

Yeah, I put this on all my CD mixes for a few years after discovering this one. What a thumper!
  12:24pm clarke:

lentil soup is AWEsome!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Handy Haversack:

Frank, if you want to jointly vegetarianly re-create that Tres Amigos gatefold When All This Is Behind Us (TM), I am so IN!
  12:24pm clarke:

also frank - i came to a rather sad realization this week....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Gaylord Fields:

Michael, it’s fair to say that Betty Wright’s career is no trivial matter.
Avatar 12:26pm Michael Shelley:

I get your point, your ONE point
Avatar 12:26pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Gaylord Fields: The Miami soul scene still seems a little underrated to me.
Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Squints In Plymouth:

This Betty Wright thang is nifty. Scent Of A MAN! Shoorah!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Frank In Queens:

@Handy, sounds good! I'll start perfecting the recipe in the mean time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Frank In Queens:

@clarke: what's that?
  12:30pm clarke:

sadly, i don't think i can any longer afford to be the GBV fan i want to be
Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Squints In Plymouth:

THIS is a number one hit.
  12:30pm clarke:

i can't keep up during 'these times'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@Todd: I was recently discussing that with a couple of people on another show’s comments board. It really should be ranked highly alongside Detroit, Memphis, Northern Alabama, Philly, etc., but for some reason isn’t.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, SC Lizzie! Sorry I didn't get the chance to respond to your greeting last night -- ended up on the phone with a friend in KCMO. Hi!

stereo pls. unless it’s released as mono
Avatar 12:33pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

"Gargoyles" is on twice today on my cable system. Two different networks.
  12:33pm Conor:

I never had a good enough ear for the stereo/mono thing. But some of the rereleases would put like the drums in one ear and the other instruments in the other and I hated that and found it distracting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Frank In Queens:

In the case of this Hollies song, definitely mono.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Frank In Queens:

Time for a baked goods update!
  12:34pm clarke:

true, conor, but this makes an interesting resource for drummers, etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Thanks Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Handy Haversack:

"We've Been Underestimating Mom" is totally the title of a number one hit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Frank In Queens:

@clarke: I haven't jumped on either. I'm a bit burnt out on Bob right now, so I feel like it would be a waste of $$ right now as I won't fully enjoy my subscription.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Frank In Queens:

@clarke: the good news is, if you do decide to jump on board at a later date, you'll get all the previous content from the weeks before you joined. So you won't miss out on anything.
  12:39pm Dennis Diken:

Grooviness, as per Mikey! diggin’ the noise!
  12:39pm clarke:

oh - THAT is good to know!!!!! thnx!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Frank In Queens:

Wow, The Booze!
  12:41pm Listener Robert:

When you speak of a mono record re-recorded in stereo, do you mean authentic stereo made from masters that had real mic separation when it was recorded? Or do you mean synthetic stereo where they take a mono track, filter it, and apply a bogus separation to the filtered outputs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

I caught so much hell for using Sidney Bechet for bed music yesterday that my mic failed. I'm serious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm McGroovey:

La la la la
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Frank In Queens:

They were great! We always wanted to play with them, but we made it down there and they never made it back up here :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Frank In Queens:

*we never made it down there
Avatar 12:42pm Michael Shelley:

i mean nothing fake, just a stereo mix of a song that was previously only in mono
Avatar 12:42pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

The Booze!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Handy Haversack:

This is 100 percent solid number-one material here.
  12:43pm Xangoir:

I am working on synthetic stereo currently . Easier than it sounds ...
  12:43pm Listener Robert:

Thanks, Mr. Shelley. By the way, just because I used the word "bogus" doesn't mean I'm disparaging that technique. You can sometimes achieve a pretty good illusion of stereo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Doug in JC:

Well, it doesn't sound easy at all to be honest
  12:45pm Listener Robert:

So what you're saying is, they HAD tracks that they originally mixed into mono, and later they remixed them as stereo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Frank In Queens:

You can disparage the technique Robert. In fact, I encourage you to do so!
  12:46pm Listener Robert:

You probably dislike colorized film too, huh, Frank in Q.?
  12:46pm clarke:

oh hell yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Frank In Queens:

Robert, for the most part, yes. However, I'm less militant about that then I am about fake mixes.
  12:47pm clarke:

as long as it doesn't destroy the original print, i guess it is interesting to see??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Frank In Queens:

  12:48pm clarke:

  12:49pm Dennis Diken:

I learned a lot about drumming from listening to isolated channels on stereo records. Still do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Frank In Queens:

The A-Side of this one is where it's at for me.
  12:49pm clarke:

see there?
  12:50pm Listener Robert:

Sometimes you can take an old photo from film that had an uneven color response, and with something in the shot that you can use as a color gnomon, figure out what colors were really there by computer algorithm.
  12:50pm Listener Robert:

I mean an old B&W photo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Doug in JC:

Film has three dye layers, usually it's just a matter of channel separation and individual adjustments. That'll get you 99% of the way there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

For over twenty-four hours now (excepting those seven hours I *wasted* on sleep), WFMU has been absolutely transporting me. Buoying me up. It's been such an unbelievable source of joy and support.

It was my week to be stoic and Above It All, but I can't even begin to express how much happiness this station and you fine, fine people have brought me.

Just super grateful. This show has been two of the finest hours I've ever spent.

Thanks, Michael. Thanks, Juniper. Thanks, Skeleton.

Thanks, WFMU.
  12:52pm Listener Robert:

Well, yeah, Doug, but I meant starting with an old monochrome that had inadvertent uneven color response.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Doug in JC:

Nice sentiment Handy, and I second that. I don't know where I'd be without WFMU at this point in 2020
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Doug in JC:

Saw that belatedly, Robert. I have thoughts on that but I'm going food shopping now
