Hi Sam and horsey toes!

Hello Sam and equestrians. Anyone else live in NYC, here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Sam Segal:

Gary! WR! Chresti! TDK! Other Horsers To Be Announced!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Sam Segal:

Thought I'd bring us in with a bit of 80s film music synth. Hope that's okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Gary:

Didn't realize Moroder had done Scarface
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm ParUbi:

Hey guys
Avatar 10:18pm TDK60:

The reason I ask about NYC: been dealing with loud noise from drag racers for over a month now. Made complaints. I heard from a person in another part of the city who has the same thing. It's about to drive me looney.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Gary:

Wait, is this originally a Googoosh track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Sam Segal:

Hey, ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Sam Segal:

I haven't had any drag racers in my neighborhood (Bushwick). Just the usual wall rumbling bass from car stereos, but that comes with the territory.
Avatar 10:23pm TDK60:

I even read an opinion article about it; the writer called it part of the typical "American rottenness."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Gary:

Yay Buffalo Daughter

Best I can negotiate from g translate for the Korean song (by going to Japanese and then to English) is 1 million roses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm ParUbi:

It's a good movie, but it's been like 20 years since I've seen it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Sam Segal:

@Gary: Just recently discovered Buffalo Daughter. What an incredible band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Linda Lee:

hello! first time listener & this is lovely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Sam Segal:

@WR, that would actually make sense based on a YouTube video I found for that song. Thanks for the translation.

Hey, Linda! Thanks for joining us.

I took my first subway ride today, since early March.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Linda Lee:

TDK60! hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm chresti:

Hi Linda Lee!
  10:44pm Chris Farrell:

Psychomodo was a good plug for me last week. I suppose I have Jim O’Rourke to thank for that.

If Alex Trebeck dies they should replace him with a hologram of himself so there is only one Jeopardy host. I had a Jeopardy computer game once so I know the technology is there.

That is where I heard about a whinny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Sam Segal:

How was the subway, TDK? I haven't been on the train since late March.
Avatar 10:45pm coelacanth∅:

too late to have had only one jeopardy host
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Linda Lee:

i can't get by that times paywall, but i know where some of those rich new yorkers went. they've come straight up the hudson valley to rent our homes & buy out our markets.
Avatar 10:49pm coelacanth∅:

Linda exactly right. my sister's been looking to move up by me (us) and been holding out for over 9 months on a house that they never lowered the price on in all that time.
someone from the city bought it yesterday.
  10:49pm Chris Farrell:

Touché Coel

Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm ParUbi:

They could do such a good job simulating Trebeck, it's worth a shot
Avatar 10:50pm TDK60:

Sam about 6 to 10 on each car. I left a few cars for another due to humaniods with no masks. I was in 14th St. and Columbus Cr. Streets had about 1/5 the usual crowds. // On leaving NYC," I'd much prefer leaving the US, for Norway, South Korea, or New Zealand. You know, places with some ...sense?
Avatar 10:52pm TDK60:

[meant humanoids but humaniods is ok too]
Avatar 10:52pm coelacanth∅:

my mother loved Art Flemming and was extremely sad when he left jeopardy!, but i'm sure she she likes Trebeck just as much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Linda Lee:

i'm sorry to hear that, coel. true it is madness here now. i placed this cabin on the market yesterday evening & i had 5 showings scheduled by this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Sam Segal:

I like when Trebek gets really snide with people during the chat segment. Sometimes he can be borderline dismissive of people's anecdotes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Linda Lee:

just lost a contracted buyer to pandemic economics, but the asking price is now 20K higher than it was in that contractual agreement, signed in February & people are mad for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Linda Lee:

i was working on leaving the US when i contracted the cabin. now, hey ho, the state department has stopped issuing new passports.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Linda Lee:

nothing unnerves me more than the restricted travel.
Avatar 10:58pm TDK60:

Too bad those lefty seamen all died off who snuck folks cross the pond!
Avatar 10:59pm coelacanth∅:

'thing is, her house in north stamford isn't getting even a nibble.
Avatar 11:01pm coelacanth∅:

and (@10.56) it looks like you might get it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Linda Lee:

sort of a shame i can't do what i meant to do when i got it! there's no plan B either..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm Linda Lee:

north stamford connecticut?
are people looking to get even farther from town?
  11:03pm Chris Farrell:

He does have a way about him, I came to conclusion it’s done in the mission of the show. The whole editing of Jeopardy is fascinating.

Alex often comes across super smart because he knows the answer. I’ll have to ask my parents about Al Fleming, my dad was always home when Jeopardy was on so I would watch it. Too bad I didn’t take to it as I grew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Linda Lee:

i'm about 90 miles from the city here, but because it's the city watershed it might as well be the yukon. very little development.
Avatar 11:04pm TDK60:

is that a Theremin?
  11:05pm Dean:

Buddy of mine was on Jeopardy a long time ago. Trebek asked him about having been in a punk band. "Why punk?" My buddy answered something like, "Because I'm an anarchist, Alex." Trebek gave him the most dismissive look. My buddy won, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Linda Lee:

we have a neighbor running a vacation rental agency. she was working 70 hour weeks in March.
i don't think this is Theremin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Linda Lee:

i'm so glad he won, Dean.
i might've done the same seeing an anarchist on Jeopardy..
  11:09pm Chris Farrell:

People like Ken Jennings are the kings of anarchy! (A sort of pun joke)
Avatar 11:09pm coelacanth∅:

Linda @11.02 that's what she said(!) she figured on a large house with many upgrades/new equipment and 3 acres of land that can be divided in 2; and being within 5 (?) miles of the train to the city -being pretty tempting.
but yeah i guess it's not far enough away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm doctorjazz:

Well, that's a horse of a different color... I'll listen on my phone (through a speaker for now).
Hi all.
Avatar 11:12pm coelacanth∅:

greetings doctor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Linda Lee:

wow ..
this pandemic is twisting minds into new shapes. i guess if 6 feet is far enough, 100 miles is even better.
Avatar 11:13pm TDK60:

I was going to turn-in but Kolthum reminds me of late nights, so....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Sam Segal:

Hahaha that's a great story, Dean. Wishing more victories to the anarachists in the future!
  11:14pm Chris Farrell:

I’ve never accessed this program through a computer but I’ve been wanting to check out other shows.

Any easy to type recommendations?

I’ve had some luck going to sams station and starting the pop up player.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Sam Segal:

Welcome, Doc! You listen however you like!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Linda Lee:

what a voice..
Avatar 11:15pm coelacanth∅:

what Sam said at 11.13!
Avatar 11:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Hello Sam and others. I am late because Chresti and myself were entertaining DJ ARB and her partner Carlos in our front yard. At a safe distance of course. That lady is a trip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Sam Segal:

So many great shows on WFMU and its various streams, Chris! Hard to pick even a handful, but see if you can tune in before me to Gary Sullivan's Bodega Pop Live. He's on from 7-10 pm ET here on the Drummer Stream.
  11:17pm Dean:

I have the show on VHS. Wish I could find it excerpted on YouTube.
Avatar 11:19pm coelacanth∅:

and yeah Linda the people (most, i guess) are not rational now and apparently prefer the easy way of buying the hype rather than educating themselves about all this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Linda Lee:

.. and that makes them incredibly easy to manipulate. it's horrifying.
  11:21pm Chris Farrell:

Thanks Sam I’ll check it out along with the Friday WFMU Dance Party.

I have been meaning to ask about that for about a year now and just did not have the gumption.

The chat moves so fast ya know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm Linda Lee:

that's what makes you want to shake them. it's not egotism & a need to be right. it's a protective impulse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Linda Lee:

this here piece is really delicious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, Linda! My goal is to present audio delicacies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm Linda Lee:

and you do.
Avatar 11:24pm coelacanth∅:

exactly. the pharmaceuticals will get their contract; the president's been paid. the small businesses will go bankrupt, as trump and the gop has always wanted. the masses that survive it will have little option.
everything is coming along nicely.
Avatar 11:25pm TDK60:

Depends on what you're looking for Chris. Some shows are usually the same each week; others vary... . Some shows have both kinds of music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm doctorjazz:

There was a map in the Times tracing where New Yorkers went when they fled the city, and how it tracks the spread of the virus across the country.
My daughter fled to our Central Joisey house from Harlem (other daughter had to come home when college closed down. We were empty nesters for a short while...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Linda Lee:

i'm actually seeing a much larger shift at work .. regarding the global economy.. that makes politiics small potatoes. that's for another show..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Sam Segal:

How's it been having the whole family back together, Doc?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Sam Segal:

Franco! Forgot to say hello. Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm doctorjazz:

Likely there'll be a tremendous shake up after all of this...small businesses will be on life support, if they survive. Plenty of big companies, especially if they were involved in leveraged buy outs previously, are going under as well. Gonna be a whole new world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Linda Lee:

the whole question i see is: life support from what?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm doctorjazz:

It's very nice, Sam! (Interesting how old childhood issues can resurface between the girls, though). But we do get on really well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Linda Lee:

love this eyvind kang piece! the sound of an upturned metal washtub under a tree in the rain. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm WR:

Franco, say hello to DJ ARB. Her show is among the essential on WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Linda Lee:

but not. that's the music!
  11:33pm Dean:

Maybe it depends on what we mean by "whole new world." Many argue that the Internet and WWW have ushered in a whole new world. I do not. Similarly, I think we will eventually address this particular crisis, *perhaps* we'll prepare better for future risks of the same, and we'll return pretty much to our former circumstances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm doctorjazz:

My older daughter is an actor-she's petrified many of the theaters out there aren't coming back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Linda Lee:

ooh! think so?
Avatar 11:34pm TDK60:

WR, in which WFMU corridor does DJ ARB exist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Linda Lee:

DJ ARB's on Sheena, isn't she?
Sheena has some great people giving us music there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm doctorjazz:

I also don't know where/when DJ ARB is on (not that I have a ton more listening time available).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Linda Lee:

we even have our own pub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm doctorjazz:

Cool set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Linda Lee:

really, really wonderful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm doctorjazz:

Still haven't ventured off the Drummer stream and the main station...
  11:37pm Chris Farrell:

Great show Sam- thanks for the night everyone. I’m in a stalemate with the COVID situation myself and my failure to launch has made things slightly muted. I’m hoping the best for those effected though!

It looks like in the future I might do computer streaming. I’ll have a better grasp on the different station options.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm WR:

Sheena Jungle on Mondays 1pm I think. I usually am busy with work so listen from the archive. Her recent Little Richard show is fantastic. Features John Waters reading from one of his books, about when he interviewed Little Richard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Linda Lee:

oh! Role Models, was it? that was a fun book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm WR:

Name of the program is Canibal Stew
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm doctorjazz:

Ahhh, so she's up against Irene Trudel (and Joe Belock)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Linda Lee:

an embarrassment of riches on fmu .. thank the creator (of the archive) that we have the archive..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Linda Lee:

though it's really nice to chat live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm WR:

The programs are usually all music but the LR special was special. The program is just an hour long.
Avatar 11:41pm coelacanth∅:

there's too much competition now! there is more airtime than ever on the main wfmu that i'm not interested in. more than ever in >40 years of listening...yet most of the alternate stream shows are back-to-back with other shows i like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm Linda Lee:

same here, coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm doctorjazz:

Been listening a ton to David S Ware (thanks, Coel), he's been my "bed music" (literally). Set up again fire when the show ends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm ParUbi:

very beautiful
Avatar 11:44pm TDK60:

This vocalist has a slight tremolo in the voice that is eerie.
  11:44pm Dean:

Ware was a joy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Linda Lee:

here's something maybe yall didn't know: heard Charles Connor ~ Richard's drummer ~ talk about the scene when they first started gigging & making their name. they were all told to act effeminate & wear make-up so they'd be allowed to play white clubs. guessing that was in the south.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Linda Lee:

another aspect to Little Richard's persona, maybe
Avatar 11:46pm coelacanth∅:

i'm so glad you're digging him dr.j! his music means a lot to me.
...i got seriously down with Charlie Parker too...but right now i'm focusing on my own creations, when i'm not listening to wfmu. so 5 cds in and now Bird's on hold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm doctorjazz:

Definitely listen to the Drummer Stream much more than the main station these days, more varied sensibilities.
Avatar 11:48pm coelacanth∅:

right Linda in fact in an interview Richard said he was told to wear make-up and act effeminate so the "white" guys wouldn't think he's after their ladies.
Avatar 11:49pm coelacanth∅:

(...but of course discovered that that didn't deter the ladies' attention AT ALL!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Linda Lee:

hey, pretty is pretty. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm doctorjazz:

Cool, Coel! There are earlier adventurous jazz players, but Bird is really where the goal of "pushing the limits" really takes off.
Interested in what you're working on...
Avatar 11:53pm coelacanth∅:

well now i wonder why i said whatever it was i said about Bird when you first offered it!
-but i knew i was ripe for giving him another, deeper listen, so...good timing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm WR:

Yes, from Water's Role Models.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Linda Lee:

loving this show, Sam. discovery!
remembering first hearing SunRa in the late 70s. what?! same feel.. the same sense of treasures discovered that keep life worth the candle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Linda Lee:

so, thanks!
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

Linda, and physical is physical.
what a sinuous motherfucker he was!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Linda Lee:

oh yes. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Sam Segal:

What a wonderful compliment, Linda. Thank you! Hope you wander back into the Horse Zone soon!
Avatar 11:56pm TDK60:

i hope so too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm doctorjazz:

Great stuff, Sam, thanks.
