Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm KimSorise:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm chresti:

Hi Kim and greasers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm chresti:

Happy birthday, doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm doctorjazz:

Thanks Kim and Chresti!
Eastern European night (like mama used to make) at Chez Doctorjazz-Stuffed Cabbage, Cholent (a beef, bean and potato stew), and kishka (basically a loaf of flour and chicken fat with some add ins), and a shotof schnapps! Now waiting for a baked cake (been kicked out for final prep).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm KimSorise:

Sounds awesome!
Makes me miss Hamtramck.
Welcome Chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm KimSorise:

and my grandad
Avatar 7:51pm StringOFperils:

I'm having dinner envy.
Avatar 7:56pm northguineahills:

Out of all of the Black Jazz Recs I have, I don't have any in the pic...
  7:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Just jumping on. Black Jazz is beautiful, Kim!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm KimSorise:

Oh wow! Which ones do you have? This is my collection and I have Adam's Apple as well but I could find it this morning - but it is my least favorite of Carn's BJR recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm KimSorise:

Hi Doug! Hope you are well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm KimSorise:

Anyone listen to the Stevie Wonder birthday DJ jam last week?
It was cool, Gilles Peterson's set was bonkers and so was some of DJ Spinna's set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm doctorjazz:

Is Black Jazz Records a reissue label? Not familiar with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm KimSorise:

It was a label built by Gene Russell in production from 1971-1975 in Oakland, California.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm doctorjazz:

Never mind, just found a link about them

"An introduction to Black Jazz in 10 records" thevinylfactory.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm KimSorise:

It was one of the first black owned jazz labels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm doctorjazz:

They do sound good to this audio nerd.
Avatar 8:12pm northguineahills:

I must confess, I'd have to look through my recs to see which ones I have (I haven't seen my recs in 9 months), but I know I don't have any of the one's pics (I only have 2 or 3).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm doctorjazz:

I see this album starting about $100 on the usual sites (Discogs and Amazon)
  8:15pm CC:

Don't forget, the Cabbage might make you sleepy, Doc?... the night is young!!!..:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm KimSorise:

Well NGH - if they are in good shape and you're even thinking about parting with them - i'd certainly be interested, as I am sure many would
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm KimSorise:

Is that rude to say?
I am sorry if it is. . . sincerely.
  8:17pm CC:

Yeah...groovy tunes, Kim!!!
Avatar 8:18pm northguineahills:

I haven't sold a record since 1998... (and I regretted it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm doctorjazz:

I see reissue CDs, and even a reasonable FLAC (said to be remastered), but the vinyl on the Rudolph Johnson is pretty dear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm KimSorise:

I am the same way - so not worries at all, NGH.
Avatar 8:19pm bigplanetnoise:

Hola, KS and Globals....
Avatar 8:19pm StringOFperils:

I don't own any of this, but I did use to haunt large and small record stores throughout the 70s-90s, and remember these, they being, in my mind, related, in idea at least, to Chicago's AACM collective: a sort of self-identifying/empowering enterprise out of I don't know. The cover photos are striking. That period yielded a lot of good music like this. Makes me think of Arista-Freedom series as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm KimSorise:

I have had it for quite some time docjazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm doctorjazz:

The Keys vinyl starts (on Discogs) at $135 (actually only 1 for sale there)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Gina Bacon:

Hey, Monday streamers!
  8:23pm CC:

this song kind of reminds me of how Herbie Hancock evolved after splitting from Miles???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm KimSorise:

A record is only as much as folks are willing to pay; isn't that what they say?
Avatar 8:23pm StringOFperils:

Looking fwd to yr show BPN&GinaB. Looks like it's gonna be a long haul. (Worse things could happen to me.)
Avatar 8:25pm bigplanetnoise:

Thanks, StringOFperils! We love Mondays on Drummer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm KimSorise:

Hey SoP, Gina and BigPlanetNoise!
Welcome all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm KimSorise:

Happy 200th show BPN!!!

This is very cool, ramps up terrifically!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Kim!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm doctorjazz:

(Cake is almost ready...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Gina Bacon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm KimSorise:

Awe yeah! Everyone is celebrating tonight!
Happy Birthday DocJazz - what kind of cake?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm KimSorise:

Yeah - I am a bit of a completist with a few labels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm doctorjazz:

Not sure exactly, daughter is making it, but it involves frosting and chopped Heath Bars...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Gina Bacon:

That sounds great, doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm doctorjazz:

Toffee pecan fudge...
Avatar 8:35pm northguineahills:

felicidades en cinco anos, Kim!
Avatar 8:36pm StringOFperils:

Very nice for me to have this opportunity to hear a representative cross-section of this material, so thanks for that!
  8:36pm CC:

Like...Light as a Feather!!!
Avatar 8:37pm bigplanetnoise:

Thank you, KS! ❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Gina Bacon:

  8:42pm CC:

  8:44pm CC:

Ok Bob...thanks!!!... I'm going to set my alarm and wake up early from my nap on that day!!
  8:48pm CC:

nice key playing!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm KimSorise:

This record rips my brain open in the best way; Franklin is a beast.
Avatar 8:52pm bigplanetnoise:

This is so great!
  8:53pm CC:

reminds me of a lot of Chick Corea / Billy Cobham???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm KimSorise:

It kinda broke my heart a bit when Henry Franklin sold off part of his record collection. I hope it wasn't because of need.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Gina Bacon:

Yes, we're the 29th, CC!
  8:55pm CC:

it's got all of the classical elements done in a timeless way!!!
Avatar 8:56pm northguineahills:

Thanks, Kim!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Gina Bacon:

Great show, Kim! Thank you!
