Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am mariano:

Oh cool, Keilidh! That class sounds really interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am Handy Haversack:

Could also be the album cover for the OST if they ever made a movie of Stand on Zanzibar.
  12:11am BH:

shoutout to the various cats in the house who have taken a liking to looking out of an opened window (obviously a screen is up). They're keeping an eye on all the stuff they see moving in the outside where they don't go

Wow, haven't heard this Deathprod!

HBO, USA, tnt, and other channels use to air so much cool shit. Now cable has been reduced to talking head hacks. Useless!

Don't forget... life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans!!!...
Avatar 12:16am northguineahills:

@rory: I usually take the ee cummings approach, and will sometimes fight w/ autocarrot for minutes for a simple text. May the goddesses help me if I try to text in a foreign language (rather frustrating).
Avatar 12:16am Keilidh:

good point CC! very good point
Avatar 12:17am Keilidh:

my favorite is when autocorrect capitalizes part of a name but not the other
  12:17am BH:

I had Cinemax way before I ever had HBO.. so while there's an HBO Max.. I want a Cinemax Max where they only stream 80s movies and after dark stuff

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am Mr. Pumpy:

Keilidh (and anyone else), potential studying tools:

BlackLab – Abyss. Amazing Doom duo from Japan that stay trve yet seriously stretch their wings. I was digging their debut a couple years back and upon discovering this follow-up I learned they took their name from combining Black Sabbath and Stereolab. So, yeah… blacklabmoon.bandcamp.com...

Winterfylleth – The Reckoning Dawn. Good and solid blackened death that stays interesting. winterfylleth.bandcamp.com...

Vektor – Black Future. This is a throwback to slightly greater days from this New Mexico cum Philly thrashing group of Voivod worshipers. Not to say the two follow-up records weren’t amazing, but this shit just nails it. vektor.bandcamp.com...

I usually like the power of threes to do my bidding, but I have to say that the new Lör EP, Edge of Eternity, went from being a guilty pleasure, to me realizing I don’t really do those, to me listening to it myriad times. Give it a hear and you decide! halloflor.bandcamp.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am Jim the Poet:

Yes, I'll be skeletoning until 6 AM
  12:23am BH:

@pumpy thanks
Avatar 12:25am JakeGould:

@Jim: Good! Hope you have a good routine going; honestly I think the DJs DJing from home and the skeletons should take pics and notes for a “WFMU: Coronavirus” yearbook.

good to hear that whole thing, your bed music (for the first time)

Angelo Badalamenti is a class act.
  12:28am v-dawg:

Yeah, Saturday night was definately the night when the fun stuff was on cable back in the day. On the weekends as a kid, I used to go over a friend's house who had great cable service.
USA Network, Comedy Central, HBO. No "SkinaMaX" tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am chresti:

I would have Pink Room on repeat while doing finals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am Rory:

Thanks dj k!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am Jim the Poet:

The photos of me would mostly be of me spilling coffee on the soundboard constantly
Avatar 12:29am coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am Mr. Pumpy:

v-dawg...Night Flight!
Avatar 12:29am Keilidh:

I love saturday cartoons. although by the time i was growing up i was spoiled by on-demand
Avatar 12:30am Keilidh:

@chresti - it's rly great for concentration! and a mood-setter too
Avatar 12:30am Keilidh:

@coela - it's marcel's bed!
Avatar 12:30am Keilidh:

ironically, i don't have anything from Hellraiser or my usual bed musics on here.

@JimthePoet: Own the brand!
Avatar 12:32am coelacanth∅:

haha right Thanks Keilidh that was killing me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am Handy Haversack:

The spilled coffee is really waking up Saturday nights, Jim! You mad genius!
Avatar 12:32am JakeGould:

On demand TV ruined so much: We should all culturally be able to watch the same mindless garbage together as a society!
  12:32am Dave Miss:

This drum line is killin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am mariano:

Night Flight was on Saturday night if I'm remembering correctly. A real lifeline when I was a teen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am Phillippe Bastille:

Thanks Keilidh! Lovely stuff, but I'm old, so I'll have to catch the rest on the archives (like I ever take enough time off the live stuff to listen to archives...) Good night, my friends
Avatar 12:34am coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am mariano:

Night Phillippe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am chresti:

Goodnight Phillippe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano, yes, Saturday night. That show was fucking nuts at times. Or was it? Yes, it was! That's where I first saw Dynaman, which was the early Power Rangers, but some folks bought the rights and dubbed funny English language shit over it. I loved it. Years later, when working in as a sound editor for film, I met the two guys that did all of the sound effects for the Dynaman stuff on Night Flight. they did it in real time in one pass! Ahh...I guess I have lived!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Mr. Pumpy:

Keilidh, I'm loving this set. Good show, mate! Not that you need me to tell you. I'm tuckered out and have to get some sleep...yet it is hard to change the dial to sleep! Perhaps some Rumple Minze will help. Wait, what? Tortured sax?! Damn...
  12:44am v-dawg:

@ Mr. Pumpy
I do not remember "Night Flight". I justed looked it up; it seems to be a cool program. I used to watch "Up All Night" and "Duckman" as a teenager.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Handy Haversack:

I think Mr. P requested Yakety Sax. Might be the first time in HftC history!
Avatar 12:46am Keilidh:

@handy - get that sleep! i will not play sax!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am mariano:

Mr. Pumpy: Night Flight was where I discovered the NY Dolls, Ladies and Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains, Another State of Mind, and I'm sure a few other things.
Avatar 12:47am Keilidh:

i meant pumpy lol YOUR NAMES
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am Joe D.:

damn I just watched "Master and Commander: Russell Crowe in a Wig" and this is a good pairing with that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am Mr. Pumpy:

I heard some sickly sax in the Badalamenti/Lynch track...I was only reporting the facts!
Avatar 12:51am Keilidh:

oh shit! youre right... excuse my sax
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Mr. Pumpy:

Or was I reporting alternative sax?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am mariano:

I love "Master and Commander", should give it another watch.
Avatar 12:51am Keilidh:

there may be more sax later actually
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am Mr. Pumpy:

Ha! Now more sax! Damn, I feel quite vindicated!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am Mr. Pumpy:

Sax From the Crypt
Avatar 12:52am Keilidh:

hey guys WANNA HAVE SAX
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am mariano:

Oh at first I just saw "Richard Conte" on the album cover - he's the actor who played Barzini in the Godfather. I can see Barzini playing this on an organ.
Avatar 12:53am Keilidh:

mariano - i'd pay to see that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am mariano:

Hell yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am Jim the Poet:

I'm bad at sax
  12:54am grtyvr:

Keilidh likes the organ?
Avatar 12:54am Keilidh:

not THE organ but organ & organS yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano, yes! I too discovered a lot of shit on Night Flight. Also, I bugged the fuck out in an altered state of mind quite often. I remember an episode wherein they showed a hot dog in a microwave for 20-30 minutes. It was some of the best television I've ever seen.
Avatar 12:55am coelacanth∅:

when i first tried sax it really just amounted to some weird noises and unhappy people.
  12:55am grtyvr:

big organs are great....
Avatar 12:56am Keilidh:

i feel left out of this whole night flight thing. it was an anthology show?
  12:56am v-dawg:

@ Keilidh
What was the philosophy and technology class like? Intersection of the two disciplines?
Avatar 12:56am coelacanth∅:

(but please i was only 10)
Avatar 12:58am Keilidh:

@v-dawg - a lot of explorations of the moral/ethical issues around technology as well as theories like Actor Network theory regarding technology's role in society
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am chresti:

I got very winded, the first time I tried sax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am Handy Haversack:

Kate's response to Zimmer: "Uh oh."
Avatar 12:59am coelacanth∅:

i didn't get winded but i couldn't get the fingering right.
  1:00am listener phillip in quarintine:

movie soundtracks? it would have to be 1978 superman soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am Mr. Pumpy:

There comes a point in an individual's life where they should free themselves of judgment and inhibition; where they can feel free to express themselves with no fear of rebuttal; when the sound they make can truly be heard as pure joy; this may perhaps be the only way they can both appreciate, and excel at, sax.
  1:01am BH:

hopefully the first Bill & Ted movie fits in the Philosophy/Technology class
Avatar 1:01am coelacanth∅:

( -or maybe it was my embouchure)

Avatar 1:02am Keilidh:

  1:02am listener phillip in quarintine:

the exorcist Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Mr. Pumpy:

Keilidh, Night Flight was on for hours late at night and there were no rules. Sometimes they'd even show an entire movie. It was definitely curated by some real 'heads'. Lovers of sight and sound. I keep wishing there will be a way to access it all some day!
Avatar 1:03am Keilidh:

good pick, phillip! (thinks about christopher reeve)
Avatar 1:03am Keilidh:

yes Tubular Bells!! should've been on here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Handy Haversack:

Sax is natural.

Sax is good.

Not everybody does it.

But everybody should.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Mr. Pumpy:

Okay, I'm out. I need to unwind for several minutes and hit the hay. Good luck on your finals, Keilidh. Rest assured in the path you've chosen, for I have a communications degree, and look how I turned out! Night, all...peace and love!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am Handy Haversack:

"See" you tomorrow, Mr. P!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am mariano:

Yeah, Night Flight played a lot of punk/hardcore/underground stuff you wouldn't normally see anywhere else, and it was always really eclectic and freeform, like Mr. Pumpy said. Speaking of whom, good night Mr. P!

Avatar 1:51am slugluv1313:

hi Keilidh and everyone!
damn! what a cool show -- going to have to catch what i missed on the archives!
and hell yeah! the 80s were all over-dyed denim, acid wash, pastels, day-glo . . . i think i had so many black clothes by then because i had been attempting to dress all in black by the time i was 12 (vampires? Bela Lugosi?) plus, i did not grow much over the years, and i had a buncha stuff (really cool black dresses, gloves, etc.) that belonged to my Mom, Grandma, other relatives, and found lotsa black stuff at thrift shops because no-one wanted it, hah!
(so yeah, was totally going for that Lydia Lunch, Nick Cave "look" -- goth before it was actually called goth???)
and yeah, thinking that OZZY will definitely outlive us all!

Avatar 1:55am slugluv1313:

@ listener philip in quarantine -- Dark Side was oddly comforting to me! i was 14 when it was released, and even though i had yet to buy the LP, it got tons of airplay (back when WNEW-FM was completely free form, a DJ could play the whole album if s/he wanted to)
"Great Gig In The Sky" STILL gives me chills, even all these years later

Avatar 2:02am coelacanth∅:

my second was a cure (which was "punk rock at the time) tank top which i made, using bleach on a black t.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am mariano:

I used to have a great Siouxsie t-shirt. Black with her face covering the front, all in white.
Avatar 2:03am slugluv1313:

hi mariano -- good question!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am mariano:

Well, Lord Lucan was accused of murdering his nanny and trying to murder his wife. Then he disappeared without a trace and was never found, finally declared dead a few years ago: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 2:05am coelacanth∅:

i also made an x-ray spex t with a red pocket t. i used their logo but more elaborate color choices and i painted the phrase "germ free" upside-down on the inside. that also got stolen in 2006, by the same person.
Avatar 2:06am Keilidh:

omggg x ray spex ;_; one of my faves i wish i had a shirt
