Sicodélica dreams. Nap time.
Avatar 🚂 3:06pm βrian:

An impossible 60 °F here on the isthmus on day 57. One more night of frost and we should be done with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm David Dichelle:

Hey there, Spodiodi, Jan, Sem, Bas, WR. βrian!
Avatar 🚂 3:06pm Bas NL:

Nice bathtub bench pic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Bas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi David! Nice picture. I told Chresti we could make a bench like that. I have one of those bathtubs thrown behind the house.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Cmurtha:

Its been oddly cold these last few days in Ohio, I assume its the global warming. Hello everyone!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Stanley:

Hi David and virtual passengers.
Dig this verion of Chan Chan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David Dichelle:

Hey Franco and Cmurtha! Temperatures have dropped here as well - with snow to the east in Poland and Lithuania (none here).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm David Dichelle:

And good evening, Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Rob W:

Interesting take on Chan Chan from an Italian band apparently known for its love of Celtic music! That's our kind of globalism...
Avatar 🚂 3:18pm Bas NL:

A gray sunset?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm David Dichelle:

Indeed it is, Rob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm David Dichelle:

Just a bit of twilight left here now, Bas. You probably have another half hour or so.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm David Dichelle:

Yvang, many of the lower numbered Rouds are also Childs, in fact.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Yvang:

I am still learning...
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm dutchtheo:

Greetings David and folkies, from the dim dutch delta
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm fred:

Give it a few years of global warming, and "Parrots in the cornfield" might get a Roud number of its own
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Dutchtheo!
  3:41pm Dean:

One of my great musical regrets is declining to hear Gryphon in London in late '76 for something like 50p. Might have been at the Marquee. I was on a theater tour departing London that night.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm chris:

greetings from a cool, occasionally rainy early afternoon in coastal Northern California, David and fellow trans-continental public transportees.
Avatar 🚂 3:44pm Sem:

Had a chance to refresh my memory about Shirley Collins whilst listening. Interesting that she married Ashley Hutchings of Steeleye Span just after he left the group.
Wonderful overview of that period of English folk music via her career path.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm David Dichelle:

Greetings Chris and Dean!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm chresti:

Sounds nice, chris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm David Dichelle:

Sem: Yes, it must have been quite a scene back then.
  4:02pm spodiodi:

nice Roud segment, DD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Spodiodi!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:11pm chris:

i'm such a sucker for the Turkish sound of the 70's and it seems, the new Turkish revival, if i can call it that. maybe i should learn Turkish... hmm.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and fellow travellers.
Our numb nuts of a Prime Minister suggests that people go back to work but do NOT use public transport. We are only second to the US for oblivion. Russia coming up fast on the rails.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm David Dichelle:

Evening, Brian! And yikes...
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Brian in UK:

The sun shone today but we were hit with probably the last frost of the year. Damaging Dahlias, Fig tree and small plants. Whodathoughit.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm chris:

calendar on my phone keeps reminding me of the now cancelled flight into Heathrow tomorrow. sigh. stupid virus.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Brian in UK:

Dean '76, just before what is jokingly called punk arrived as a palate cleanser.
  4:17pm Dean:

In fact, I bought the Pistols' first single on that trip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm David Dichelle:

Chris, what a tactless calendar.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:19pm chris:

indeed.
Avatar 🚂 4:19pm TDK60:

Hello.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Brian in UK:

To think that the Police tried to be part of the punk herd.

Dean, love the contrast of Gryphon and the Pistols.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm David Dichelle:

Hello TDK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm David Dichelle:

Brian, your comment really stings.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Brian in UK:

Buzz, Buzz, Buzz goes the honey bee. It promises to be a good year for the mellifluous stuff.
  4:25pm Dean:

Later, in '84, I heard a recital by Richard Harvey of Gryphon at Wigmore Hall.

The Police at the Whisky touring the second album: the moment I realized I was growing bored with rock. They were utterly lifeless.
Avatar 🚂 4:25pm TDK60:

Wie gehts? David. I hate bein' late. (I see I missed Oysterband, saw 'em 2 years back in Cropredy.)
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Brian in UK:

Dean, Wigmore Hall is a delightful venue. Try this.
wigmore-hall.org.uk...
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Carmichael:

Heya David and Covidians. Finally made it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm David Dichelle:

All new-normal, TDK, thanks! Und wie geht's dir so?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm David Dichelle:

Hey Carmichael!
  4:29pm Dean:

Wow, Brian in UK! What a line-up. I have to hear at least some of those. Paul Lewis, for sure.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:30pm fred:

@Brian: Your prime minister could learn a lot from France. We should all go back to work, but from home. So only workers are allowed on public transit at rush hour. The trains and buses should only carry 20% of capacity. But there are fewer than usual, to discourage using them. So we should avoid public transit. But not use cars. Use bikes instead, with newly opened bike lanes. But these will be closed if they clog car traffic. And it's only day two
Avatar 🚂 4:30pm TDK60:

Ah David, been a few situations, challenges, this/that, but my most-close family/friends are not badly sick, so...
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Brian in UK:

fred, yes a lot to learn but how do you teach an arrogant prick with a God given right to be superior. I hope that the new Labour leader can return some semblance of order and be an effective opposition. There must always be a strong opposition. End of rant.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:39pm northguineahills:

When it was described as a 'sepcial relationship' b/tn the EEUU y RU (US & UK), i didn't think we'd both have like-minded morons as heads of our gov'ts. That said, Boris would be an improvement over here (and that says quite a bit).
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Brian in UK:

David, I think that Turpan Depression would be a good band name. Xinjiang, the semi autonomous state, just like Tibet.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Brian in UK:

@ngh, have to say that yours is above and beyond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm David Dichelle:

Hello NGH! Any news?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:47pm northguineahills:

@David: Just that they are testing the beta version of training online, since originally it was supposed to be in person, and I should get notification in a week or so....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm David Dichelle:

Continued good luck, NGH!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm northguineahills:

ah, Khojamyarovh was a Soviet Uighur Kazakhstani...
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Brian in UK:

David, love this, it has some heft.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm David Dichelle:

Glad you are enjoying it as well, Brian.
Avatar 🚂 5:06pm TDK60:

You'll be chirping cheerful to know, I'm in no mood to discuss various leaders, at this moment at least, heh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm David Dichelle:

TDK: They actually discuss themselves enough so that nobody else has to.
Avatar 🚂 5:13pm TDK60:

You'll be mildly interested maybe: A few years ago a friend called, had a pair of tix for Carnegie Hall. I asked who was playing? The Kazakh symphonic and opera orch. Something like that. Good!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:17pm northguineahills:

@TDK: I'm still debating whether Duke or Flynt was the leader of GI Joe, but feel like it should of been Lady J.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm David Dichelle:

TDK: I wonder if that was the same orchestra (with a post-Soviet name).
Avatar 🚂 5:18pm TDK60:

NGH, I could hotly debate that with you IF I knew the first thing @ GI Joe! Hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm David Dichelle:

I would have thought that Joe was the leader.
Avatar 🚂 5:20pm TDK60:

David, could be. The name "symphonic and opera orch." rings a bell in my memory gland. They did some symphonic works, Kazakh music, and opera singers did some vocal selections.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm WR:

Now you pundits have me looking at wikipedia for GI Joe LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm David Dichelle:

TDK: I wonder if they actually did Kuzhamyarov. There are much too few recordings of his work.
Avatar 🚂 5:25pm TDK60:

David I think I have the program around here /somewhere/ but...maybe some other day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm David Dichelle:

Sure, if it ever turns up, let us know.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:33pm northguineahills:

Part of the reason there are so many spellings of Kazakh names is b/c in the last century, the language went from using Arabic script, to Cryrillic script, and as a few years ago, Latin script. (and I thought transliterating Arabic Ottoman script to modern Turkish Latin script was tough....)
Avatar 🚂 5:38pm TDK60:

NGH: That must've taken a lot re-learning campaigns?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm David Dichelle:

NGH: It's also because there is a different Russian version since Russian doesn't have the sound represented here as Q.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:45pm northguineahills:

@WR: jajaja, oh the rabbit holes we find outselves in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm David Dichelle:

TDK: It is a difficult ongoing process, especially for older people.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm northguineahills:

Meic Stevens is the only other Welsh folk singer I know that sings in Welsh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm David Dichelle:

NGH: Sounds like we need to have more of that here.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm northguineahills:

If a Kyrgyzstani had a child w/ a one of the Welsh, would the hybrid language be totally devoid of vowels?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm WR:

I gave up on knowing the character names for GI Joe. 5 minutes was all that one was worth to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm David Dichelle:

NGH: Somewhat sadly the language would surely be English.
Avatar 🚂 5:49pm TDK60:

Been trying to learn Spanish for years. Except I'm lazy -peresozo.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm northguineahills:

If you're an Ottoman History scholar, not only do you have to learn Turkish, but you have to learn classical Ottoman Turkish (the language court and government records were kept), but you also have to learn the Ottoman Turkish script as well. I'm still learning English....
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Stanley:

I love it when I hear Mary sing in Welsh
Avatar 🚂 5:52pm Bas NL:

I'm afraid 'iechyd da' is the only Welsh expression that stuck with me. It was a short stay attending a wedding in Wales... and yes, there was heavy drinking.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Stanley:

What about 'boyo', Bas?
Avatar 🚂 5:54pm Bas NL:

Not a clue.. What's that mean, @Stanley?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm dutchtheo:

Goodbye and thanks, David!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Stanley:

It means brother,
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Yvang:

Nice Goodbye song! Goodbye and thanks, David!
Avatar 🚂 5:55pm Sem:

yes, thank you once again, David.

Brother; could have guessed!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:56pm chresti:

Gracias, David!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Stanley:

*sigh*
Thanks David and see you all later
Avatar 🚂 5:57pm TDK60:

Avatar 🚂 5:58pm Bas NL:

Strange, when you put all those Mary Hopkin tracks together, you get it.. It's all Mary Hopkin! Great singer!!
  5:58pm Martinibomb:
