“The piece is based on the nonsensical commands and directives of a speaker who thinks he can give order to the chaos of life and control his environment. Although the tone is prophetic sometimes, it seems he does not have anything of significance to say, or he says the wrong things. And the more he wants to control with orders to musicians and desperate attempts to capture the now and here of events, the more everything goes chaotic. I multiply the voice channels to remind that he is not a lonely, blithering, crazy person. He might be representing a general attitude in the Western culture. The last minute of silence comes with the arrival of the chef, who has a similar agenda of keeping things in order, to co-ordinate and maintain a so-called harmony, but all fails because they resist the flow of life, and hence, contra naturam.”

@Joe D- looks like Baby Teeth, Letraset font
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Rtintera:

yess, that's what i thought you meant. but if i'm never listening to archives, i guess i'm always caught up! Unless we consider the philosophical argument that they get into in the movie Spaceballs, about what "now" means
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Handy Haversack:

Was kind of hoping that last song was actually in Turkish and I had become fluent during this set -- but I think there are holes in the hypothesis. I don't seem to be able to say anything *else*.
Avatar 3:55pm
Itzall Tumánnio:

Shamedly, I will admit that I have never seen that (entire) movie. I need to find that in an archive somewhere...oh wait. What if I miss something that is only being shown while looking for it?!? Dilemma.

i'll fill you in! They need some information so they decide to just see what happens next in the movie, by putting in the Spaceballs VHS tape. they fast forward to the part where they are watching themselves in the present.

Aww nice!TPSP taking notes, a good sign
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Rob W:

I just looked up the story about the hunger striker KHP - that was İbrahim Gökçek who played bass with a very politically outspoken, maybe the word would be militant, band called Grup Yorum - they've been banned and limited in many ways by the Turkish gov't over the years (they date back to 1985). Their music has kind of a polished trad / folk-rock style I would say. But they have faced various bands / repressions over the decades but I gather things had really ramped up: Their cultural center in Istanbul that has been raided by police 10 times in the last two years; he and other members had been arrested I believe in 2019 (he had been released), and they have not been allowed to perform since 2016.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Rob W:

Type above: I meant "bans" not bands! For Grup Yorum it's been more of a battle of the bans than battle of the bands...
Avatar 4:30pm
Snoochienucci:

Rob W interesting story, makes you realize all those one hit wonder bands didn't have it oh so bad lol

Avatar 4:32pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm

@GloriousEstephonic: Was hanging out in Park Slope yesterday when I checked the food coop’s instagram and saw the line wait was like 30 minutes. I thought I won the lottery!

But riding the subway back home to Bay Ridge was — and is — just tense. Doing anything is tense nowadays.

I went out to the local DII discount store and I had to wait in line to get Ajax and Windex and that is even tense.

@gezzerette - It's been a wacky weather sampler lately: snow, wind, sun, rain; repeat.
@Jake - I can see the point of keeping the beaches closed, but on a blistering hot day this summer, a lot of people will want to go in the water. And no, I don't care for sand in my fingernails, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
