Never sounded better!
Keep on Rollin.
Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Geoffrey in Ottawa:

@Andres I was sitting on my sofa Thursday afternoon and heard them fly over, not knowing it was them, ran outside to see what was going on, back inside to grab my eight-year-old and back outside just in time to watch them fly right over our heads. Always awesome to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Spinning Giant:

Come on! Nobody says "Stay-tus", do they...? Really...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Spinning Giant:

Dennis and Donna! Sweet Corn Lizzie! Victrola Tom! Everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Spinning Giant:

@Geoffrey - freakin' awesome! The tradition continues! Remembering what a huge deal it was as a kid to witness a fly-by - we didn't get the 'Birds at our local village festival, but they always sent out a Hercules from CFB Trenton for a ridiculously low fly-by - literally skimming the treetops - remember pissing my pants laughing as all the grownups in the beer tent stood up too quick trying to nab their flyaway hat, and spilling beer all over themselves and everyone else - Good Times!!! :D
  3:43pm kpx:

hey there Todd, bangin tunes as usual!
  3:44pm Young Pete:

Loved that Status Quo track and glad to hear The Von Mons back at it!
  3:45pm Andres:

Hey Spinning Giant and Geoffrey! Postponed 24hrs so let's hope for tomorrow. I was at the dumpling house on spadina after watching the raptors parade on lake shore when the snowbirds did a flyover the parade as it continued up university ave. I wasn't paying attention so didn't hear it somehow but the servers and kitchen staff noticed and went running out the front door, I thought maybe the kitchen was on fire! but with the door open I heard and figured it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah! Exbats: these people are so great! They sent two extra CDs, stickers, and a handwritten note when I ordered this from them. Super class act all the way!
  3:46pm morphe':

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Blimey! Little frozen thingies falling out of the sky here! Who ordered this?
  3:53pm David in London:

Morphe, I have thought about mentioning it before now, but previously I’ve always let sleeping dogs lie over that one. Didn’t want to make anyone feel bad.
  3:53pm flashbazbo:

That status quo is better than this status quo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Spinning Giant:

  3:59pm kpx:

all this talk about eggplant has made me hungry for some fried eggplant. something I haven't had in years. anyone know a good recipe for fried eggplant. I understand the secret is in the kind of breadcrumbs you use?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Spinning Giant:

@kpx look up Marcella Hazan's recipe - the gold standard for Italian cooking - you don't use breadcrumbs, just flour - I like to use pasta grade durum semolina
Avatar 4:01pm Joe B:

TOPT - I look forward to meeting you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Spinning Giant:

@kpx, also, essential - many people do not know this somehow, you need to slice and salt the eggplant and let it sweat for a good half-hour to break down the flesh and make it tender...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Spinning Giant:

@clapper - go to the WFMU homepage and find the Playlist link...
  4:03pm kpx:

@spinning giant, mucho gracias .

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Spinning Giant:

@kpx anytime - I like to cut them about 1/4" thick or a little less - 1/8" if you're feeling pro - also, my favorite way to eat them (original recipe as far as I know - noone taught it to me and never had it at anyone else's place)... slice and salt the same way - and whip up a basting marinade using olive oil, white wine (vinegar if no wine on hand - red is okay too but a total different taste), fresh-squeezed lime juice, your fave mustard, and this is the fucking key - black cumin seeds - lots of em - trust me - you will have thought you died and went to heaven - I've seen people gobble up a whole eggplant themselves when I make this - and these are people who claim "I don't like eggplant" - because they never had it cooked properly! ;) Baste them just before you throw them on the Q, and other side when you flip it - keep a close eye - they're gonna wanna burn up with all that oil - worth the work, though, trust me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Spinning Giant:

Hey Todd - go easy on Todd, already ferchrissakes!!! And maybe offer to pick him up an ice-cold six-pack from the local outlet...man's gotta be thirsty working so hard...
  4:12pm Christina Low:

@Spinning Giant, yeah, he’s going down that road tonite; not bad for a Saturday dinner, I think. We haven’t had it in quite a while! I love eggplant parm.

Spinning Giant - you got a secret restaurant over at the farm with curb side pickup? Where do I find a menu ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Handy Haversack:

@Sweet Corn Lizzie: The NYC park launches are open for permitted individuals but not for group activities. Not sure what's the status in Jersey or other places nearby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Spinning Giant:

Andres - sadly, no - just lil ol moi - and 2/3 of the time, my exuberant children bouncing about... ;) I actually don't have any eggplant on hand, but damn straight I'm ordering some next time I do a grocery run! ;)
  4:14pm Vertual:

Hey kpx, by chance is your screen name based on radio station call letters? I was part of a station with those calls a lawng time ago.

Whoa, this sounds so great. This whole set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Spinning Giant:

@Christina - sounds spectacular - enjoy!!!
  4:14pm Christina Low:

Also, you slice super thin so it becomes meltingly tender as it bakes (my Italian grandmas’ Italian friend did it this way), salt for about 30 min, and then I set him up with my flour->dipping agent->breadcrumbs method.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Spinning Giant:

The paradox about an act like The Runaways being "a little bit before their time" is that without them there have been no such time. I exaggerate. But maybe not much.

Hey Todd!

You know what’s weird? Since this pandemic started I’ve been listening mainly to droney and mainly instrumental art rock, no wave and such…

But suddenly in the middle of this week I had a strong desire to listen to Little Richard. Pretty much endlessly. Now this.

I reckon this is common knowledge, but John Lennon famously said Tutti Frutti was one of his all time favorites and would champion Little Richard even in caustic interviews.

As a kid in the 80s, Little Richard was like a rocknroll mister rogers... he was a neighbor somehow.

Without a doubt, that is someone who made the world a better place with just with a voice, a piano, and a smile.

One of the first in the Rocknroll hall of fame, Cleveland location, and in the Heaven location now too.

“I could do Little Richard’s voice, which is a wild, hoarse, screaming thing. It’s like an out-of-body experience,” Paul McCartney said. “You have to leave your current sensibilities and go about a foot above your head to sing it. You have to actually go outside yourself.”

@Mariano: Thanks. I found my quote in the Guardian. You gave me a clue because I was kind of shocked that the topic of tutti frutti came up in the 5th Pp, like really explicitly. Like wtf. Anyway there it is.
