hello and greetings to GG and the rest of you wonderful kooks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Today's show was *almost& the Kraftwerk segment from Tomorrow's World, but I changed it last night at the last minute ... some cosmic vibes :-(

Hi Granny! :-)

So sad to bid farewell to Florian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Tomorrow's World segment is from 1969 - The Office of the Future :-)
Avatar 3:04pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Because it is 10.05 pm here, I really am a few step closer to tomorrow's world compared to many of you (gotta brag about something these days)! Anyways, excuse me for the silly joke and let me wish you all a very futuristic wednesday!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

We've got a fabulous crowd today! Hello, hello you lovely Modernists <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's a LONG and a COMPLICATED business. Never forget that, kids ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Rich in Washington:

I used to live on Robot Avenue. I couldn't afford to now. It's been taken over by clonedominiums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - BOOM! lol
Avatar 3:09pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:07 Listener Bob in PGH: I'm terribly afraid it is a case of same old, same old, whatever that might mean these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Rich in Washington:

It's gettin' so you can't tell the mutants from the androids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello Rich :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's just gone 8pm here in Brighton and the sun is gently setting :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm notsoKWYET:

This is so Kraftwerk Metropolis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Georgy! It was beautiful and sunny and just now it's dark and cloudy and raining hard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Isn't it? If I'd used the Kraftwerk segment I think it would have been too much for me today :-(
Avatar 3:11pm Linda Lee:

still broad daylight & 3pm here in the northeast US. expecting snow sometime soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Rich in Washington:

This is wonderful, Georgy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Rich! :-) <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - snow?? My goodness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Rich in Washington:

Really, LL? I'm glad the snow's behind us now. I just put my snow chains away for the year.
Avatar 3:12pm Linda Lee:

i know. :-) but at least i can calm down a bit on passing time.
Avatar 3:13pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Hey Rich in Washington, it was quite interesting what you told on Monday about your childhood friends who were Apostolic Lutherans. I had never heard of them before, after googling I realized they were a Laestadian Lutheran offshoot, hence the no-tv rule makes sense. They are common in northern Finland, and i remember they might have had computers and such but television screen was not OK. Huge families with many children.
Avatar 3:13pm Linda Lee:

Catskills weather. as it is. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Listener Bob in PGH:

@Photocopy ChaCha - I took your advice and watched the Mick Rock documenttary, enjoyed it very much, thank you!
Avatar 3:13pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:13 Listener Bob in PGH: cool, hope you enjoyed it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've sat here for the last ten minutes twiddling the volume knob on my output speakers and wondering why the volume (for me) is so quiet.
Because ... I hadn't plugged the damn things in. <sigh> I'll wake up in a minute ;-)
Avatar 3:15pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:03 DJ GeorgyGirl: now this is spooky.
Avatar 3:16pm Linda Lee:

that kinda day eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, PCC! Laestadians! My wife actually wrote a college paper on their history. Her great grandparents were Finnish immigrants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Pretty much ;-) I was swearing and shouting "Why is it so bloody quiet??? Ohhhh ... Oh. Ok." lol
Avatar 3:17pm StringOFperils:

That was Florian reaching out to you GG. The speakers go quiet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@SOp - that's even spookier!
Avatar 3:18pm Linda Lee:

sure. you're sure something's wrong!
now this... Yan Tregger .. is just fabulous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Gettin' a bit funky in here! ;-)
Avatar 3:19pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:16 Rich in Washington: quite an interesting subject your wife wrote about - I never had an idea they might have brought their religion there, but of course it makes sense now that i think about it, me and my slow brain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Rich in Washington:

There are large Apostolic Lutheran populations in my county and in the Midwest US. The latter will sometimes send problematic youths to live with people in the former. I remember making pals with two such youths who were really into Hardcore Punk and we'd go to shows together. They were insane. Like brawling hockeyplayer type dudes. They ended up getting sent back because they were corrupting the local AL youths.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh! I'm doing another Facebook Live on Saturday! :-)
As is the wonderful Dr Dan of Not So Kwyet :-)
I would love to see you all there :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What does Apostolic mean?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Rich in Washington:

What time, GeorgyGirl? I will try to tune in.
Avatar 3:20pm Linda Lee:

aren't you doing something on Sunday too, GG? or is that my fevered brain?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I'm on at noon PST for an hour :-)
I'll be posting to the Sheena Facebook group so you can all watch it there :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Rich in Washington:

I'm not sure. "of or relating to the Apostles: apostolic writings | a simple apostolic life."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - am I? lol! If I am I'm not even remotely prepared ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh!!! Apostles! Of course :-)
Avatar 3:21pm Linda Lee:

haha. the brain then :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Noon PST, 3pm EST, 8pm BST, 9pm CET :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i remember having a brain. the zoombies ate mine
Avatar 3:22pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:19 DJ GeorgyGirl: this had me puzzled, Laestadian made more sense to me being from the north (the branch of christianity named after Lars Levi Laestadius)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - I think mine fell out of my ear ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Rich in Washington:

The ALs also have as many children as humanly possible. The boys also are allowed a sort of 'running wild' period not unlike the Amish Rumspringa, where they can just go apeshit and then are welcomed back into the fold, rather dramatically.
Not the girls, who are expected to take care of their many siblings until they're ready to make babies themselves.
Avatar 3:23pm worldsworstrecords:

Old Reggie Boozalot
Avatar 3:23pm Linda Lee:

.. did you say 'zoombies'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - I have to confess to not being terribly knowledgeable about Christianity ... I tend to ask lots of questions :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

LL; oh yes, indeed!
Avatar 3:24pm worldsworstrecords:

This track has a very Kraftwerk feel - very Man Machine period
Avatar 3:24pm Linda Lee:

zoombies! are they faster than normal?
not so much lumbering?
Avatar 3:24pm worldsworstrecords:

It could be an early version of Spacelab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Rich in Washington:

So, colloquially, where I am from, Apostolic Lutherans are called 'bunheads' because the women do not cut their hair ever, rather they wear it in huge buns on top of their heads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Darryl - you see what I mean about it? It would have been far too spooky if I'd used the Kraftwerk bit. :-(
Avatar 3:25pm worldsworstrecords:

totally
Avatar 3:25pm Linda Lee:

that's how we learn, GG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Zoombie Rhumba!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Rich in Washington:

When they are teenagers, they go through a period not unlike catechism, where they are told that they are the only real people and that all of us ungodly 'worldlies' are to be shunned.
  3:26pm ?:

Evening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Jan Turkenburg:

Fantastic show, Georgy!
Avatar 3:26pm worldsworstrecords:

isn't that awful Kim Davis an Apostolic Lutheran?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - are they a closed community?
Avatar 3:27pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:24 Rich in Washington: this term made me laugh as well as the anecdote about your punk friends corrupting the AL youth. Now that is a punk band name: AL Youth. Debut album "This is not LA". Sorry, I am into bad jokes tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Rich in Washington:

I am so glad I was raised without any religious nonsense whatsoever. I am proud to be a godless heathen. I recently thanked my parents for that and I think it shocked them a little bit.
  3:27pm MattyDread:

Evening x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Jan! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello lovely Matty!! :-) x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Rich in Washington:

She might be, Darryl! She certainly has the appearance that all modern apostolic women seem to have.
Avatar 3:27pm Linda Lee:

always us & them, us & them.
Avatar 3:28pm worldsworstrecords:

Just checked: she calls herself an Apostolic Christian
Avatar 3:28pm worldsworstrecords:

I know what I'd call her...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Rich: that's great! My mama sent me to very many different churches, including The Joy Bus!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

oh, she also told me, "they're all the same"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've never ever liked anyone telling me how to live my life - so I would never do the same back. I can't bear people who have The Truth and that's it. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Who knew the future would be so funky?
Avatar 3:29pm StringOFperils:

Apoplectic Looney Tunes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hopey!!! Hello! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm notsoKWYET:

I had to put on a load of laundry and let me tell ya... this music even works for that
!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Dan - funky laundry! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm notsoKWYET:

@MattyDread ... hello!
  3:32pm Martinibomb:

I love this show today! I mean I have it PUMPED LOUD!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This isn't *at all* like Fame. Oh no. Not at all. ;-)
Avatar 3:33pm Linda Lee:

when i got back to the Catskills after some time down south, i was walking in the woods with an old timer & he asked me: 'do you go to church?' i spread my arms & said, 'i'm in church now!'
Avatar 3:33pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I find it funny that Pink Floyd's December 1967 appearance in Tomorrow's World has not too futuristic musical content in it. Green Onions-ish instrumental and some calm noodling. A crazed reading of Interstellar Overdrive would've made more sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm notsoKWYET:

I pretended that I was doing laundry for the first time in a laundry machine --- it was all so futuristic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - Yes!!!! Excellent!!! :-)
  3:33pm MattyDread:

the computer age
  3:33pm Martinibomb:

I'm glad I lived in a world that made music like this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - there you go! Best church ever :-) And super pretty, too :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Jan Turkenburg:

@Linda Lee: right answer :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Dan - now you need a silver washing machine :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - right? It's just so good :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Jan Turkenburg:

I try to visit that church twice a day now!
Avatar 3:35pm Linda Lee:

that's where it's happenin. :-)
Avatar 3:35pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:33 Linda Lee: well, I guess I went to church just a few hours ago then. A pity I did not go yesterday, as it was warmer.
Avatar 3:35pm StringOFperils:

A while ago I carried this big bundle buggy cart down an escalator in the subway for an older lady, and when we got down to the train platform, instead of thanking me, she lectured/reprimanded me on not being a Christian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That church provided a rather spectacular sunset yesterday :-) tangerines and fuchsias and purples and teals. Really rather lovely :-)
Avatar 3:36pm Linda Lee:

thankfully it's always open. :-)
  3:36pm Martinibomb:

I just got my first electric guitar -- just sayin' who knows what will happen with all this great inspiration I've heard here today
Avatar 3:36pm Linda Lee:

GG~ really lovely!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

SOp - really???? That's awful!!! What a cow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - Unleash the music! :-)
Avatar 3:37pm StringOFperils:

Yeah GG, I had to laugh. I told her to have a nice day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@SOp - some people, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Summer has arrived in LA and pumping this music is perfect for my sunny (through a window) lunch time.
Avatar 3:38pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:35 StringOFperils: there's christians who help people like me with their groceries and then there are the ones like the old lady who expressed her gratitude to you the way you described...
Avatar 3:38pm Linda Lee:

funny, SOP~ i'd say you were the better Christian there, really. compassionate. forgiving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Hopey - share it with the world! :-)
Avatar 3:39pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:38 Linda Lee: THIS
Avatar 3:39pm StringOFperils:

I could see it coming as soon as she asked if I was a Christian, to which I said NO, because I didn't want to get into it. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say.
Avatar 3:39pm Linda Lee:

hah! she was determined to get into it without you. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You could have been a Buddhist for all she knew tho. Silly woman.
Avatar 3:40pm Linda Lee:

she'd still be justified. godless heathen buddhists...
  3:40pm Martinibomb:

I used to get jehovah witness's every other week at my house (I'm near one of their churches so the lazy one's always hit me up) but thanks to the pandemic -- I think this is the longest I've gone without having to be lectured by someone about not being a christian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Why is it that a lot of the time the most seemingly non-christian actions are performed by those who strongly identify as Christians? hmmm.
Avatar 3:41pm StringOFperils:

Read C.S. Lewis "The Screwtape Letters'. It explains a lot.
Avatar 3:42pm Linda Lee:

claiming belief excuses all shitty behavior. that's my theory.
Avatar 3:42pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:40 Martinibomb: then again jehovah witnesses are not strictly christians as they do not believe in christ as the messiah (I know I am pedantic)
  3:43pm Martinibomb:

I have to admit that I have fantasized many many times and I know this is a VERY stupid fantasy... that I show up at their Church right as they are sitting down to worship and try and convert them to MY way of thinking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Many years ago I had some door-knocking Christians come to my house. I pointed out, politely, that I had my own beliefs and they weren't likely to change them, but that I'd just had a baby, had not spoken to another adult in about 12 hours, and had just made a cake. So I offered them tea and cake in exchange for conversation and we had a very pleasant couple of hours :-)
We agreed at the end of it that being a good person is what matters :-)
Avatar 3:43pm StringOFperils:

I grew up in the Roman Catholic church, so I've had a front row seat to egregious hypocrisy since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.
Avatar 3:43pm Linda Lee:

brilliant, GG. because it does.
  3:44pm MattyDread:

He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!
Avatar 3:45pm StringOFperils:

Not to mention the bizarre belief in a magic man who lives in the clouds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!
Avatar 3:45pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@3:43 DJ GeorgyGirl: imagine, nowadays a visit from door-knocking Christians (provided it turns out to be a friendly one) is one of those things one might miss.
  3:45pm Martinibomb:

@PCC Oh that is right. Thanks for the correction. @SOP grew up Roman catholic too yup...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Why does God not fall through the clouds? Surely they'd be quite wispy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

SOp: I am a lapsed catholic as well. (much to my mother's disappointment)
Avatar 3:46pm StringOFperils:

Diet-Coke
  3:46pm Martinibomb:

oh I just remembered I was an alter boy Lol gawd it sounds so sexual - those poor priests
Avatar 3:46pm Linda Lee:

raised Roman Catholic here as well. very trippy, as Christianity goes. the all night novenas.. the incense..
  3:47pm Martinibomb:

Alter Boy is like the Roman Catholic version of Pool Boy.
Avatar 3:47pm Linda Lee:

i turned down confirmation, however. so that was that.
:-)
Avatar 3:47pm StringOFperils:

My Mom was the parish organist, and she's amongs the most diabolical personages I can think of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think I've missed a cue ... oops.
Avatar 3:47pm Linda Lee:

my mother's youngest brother found out he was gay at seminary..
Avatar 3:48pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

a former member of evangelic lutheran, me. then again, as I have pointed out many a time before, the close connection between evangelic lutheran church and the state of Finland....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

LL: is that the uncle who took you to the Stonewall anniversary?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I wasn't raised anything. I mean, we went to churches for weddings and stuff like that, but no religious upbringing.
Avatar 3:49pm Linda Lee:

yes indeed, Granny! :-)
Avatar 3:49pm StringOFperils:

I found out I was gay at the seminary. Oh REALLY ?
Avatar 3:49pm StringOFperils:

i LOVE STATEMENTS LIKE THAT
Avatar 3:50pm Linda Lee:

that was the late 40s as well.
Avatar 3:51pm Linda Lee:

he came home to visit his parents & his sister on break & told his sister.
Avatar 3:51pm worldsworstrecords:

I was an acolyte
Avatar 3:51pm StringOFperils:

I think seminaries are probably somewhat like gay bars, but with quieter music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - how did they take the news?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

However I must admit, being Latin and raised catholic has left me with an odd fondness for the imagery, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Darryl - what's an acolyte?
Avatar 3:52pm Linda Lee:

my mother told him she loved him no matter what. his parents died without having been told.
Avatar 3:52pm worldsworstrecords:

really loving tonight's show GG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - your mother sounds lovely :-) <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Darryl! :-) <3
Avatar 3:53pm Linda Lee:

she adored her brother all his life. for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Kat in Chicago:

Another Catholic kid here. I wanted to be a nun when I was little but I think I mostly wanted to wear the outfits (which they still had in the 60s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is it tho - if you love people, you love them. No conditions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Listener Bob in PGH:

@Martinibomb - I think you mean "altar boy". An "alter boy" is something else altogether! :-)
Avatar 3:54pm worldsworstrecords:

It's the next step up from Boat Boy: I was one of those too! A bot boy carries the 'boat', which holds the incense. An acolyte carries a candle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Darryl - Oh!!! I know what you mean now :-)
Avatar 3:54pm worldsworstrecords:

High Anglican CofE is very similar to the Catholic church
Avatar 3:54pm Linda Lee:

yes. that's right.
  3:55pm Martinibomb:

@Dj are you sure? Maybe I got it right?
Avatar 3:55pm worldsworstrecords:

Boat boy, not bot boy... although...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I didn't miss a cue. lol. I got ahead of myself there - I shall just leave the track up ;-)
Avatar 3:55pm Linda Lee:
