Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm chresti:

I thought they were saying "sunbeam", "Zombie" makes it extra delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm chresti:

Hi coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

fred: so kind. I use the neutral title, Mx (there is no neutral equivalent to sir or maam)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Doug Schulkind:

Irene became a WFMUer in 1986, a year before me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

and i feel so very welcome by all of you. <3
Avatar 1:22pm Wolfgang:

Wow 34 years ! So looking forward to her Drummer debut!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I'm thrilled that Irene will be back regular. Huzzah for the Drummer stream!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Back atchoo, Granny Spicy Tuna. It always makes me so happy to nestle into the warm embrace of the WFMU/Drummer family.
Avatar 1:25pm Wolfgang:

Hiya, coel!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm fred:

@GST: is "eir" the correct possessive form?
Avatar 1:31pm Sem:

Scott never disappoints. The songs are so, out there.
Avatar 1:34pm Listener Gregory:

I have listened very quietly, but I can no longer be silent: Warren Vaché is knocking it out of the park at low volume behind Rosie Clooney.
Avatar 1:36pm Wolfgang:

I love this whole record, Gregory. He takes a few more great solos throughout.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

@fred: Spivak is kinda like they/them without the "th"; e (sometimes ey)/em/eirs/emself
these pronouns have a fascinating history, they were developed by a mathematician for academic writing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

and oops, yeah there's an eir in there, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

I have listened very quietly, but I can no longer be silent: Bloody hell what killer lyrics. Eddie De Lange is knocking it out of the park!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm fred:

@GST: I work in academia, so academic writing doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

@fred: ha ha! it was Spivak's way of avoiding clunky attempts at neutrality, like he/she or s/he.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

two similar sets of pronouns developed independently, most notably in online gaming
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm fred:

@GST: At this point I think clunky writing is a feature, not a bug (English serving as a default language, with proficiency neither required nor assumed)
Avatar 1:44pm Listener Gregory:

Doug, HAVE you been quiet?
Avatar 1:45pm Listener Gregory:

Merrill's backing band is so amazing that it would frighten most people to sing in front of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

@fred: i will count myself lucky that i am not required to read it! i sent you a link with more info about neutral pronouns. enjoy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Shhhhhh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Listener Gregory: glad YOU said that, not me! hee hee!
Avatar 1:47pm Listener Gregory:

The Abbot caught me writing comments and has forced me to return to my Vow of Silence. Have a good show, everyone.
  1:47pm Leonardo:

I've been listening very quietly and I see no reason to stop now.
Avatar 1:48pm Sem:

This from a piece I read recently: "I'm a non-binary Spanish speaker. Non-binary has no gender neutral term, which is pretty dumb considering the literal definition of non-binary. No binario: Masculine No binaria: Feminine ."
  1:49pm Ortley:

The Stork Club or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Mel Tormé
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm fred:

@GST: my cynical side says part of the academic appeal was to cut the number of characters (they do have to pay to publish, with hefty fees over a set character count)
Avatar 1:49pm Wolfgang:

Merrill's sheer power, Katz's dissonant little ornaments - Hubert Law's flute!! flute!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

fred: quite possible!
Sem:Argentina is making great progress in using neutral Spanish, with the president and courts participation!
Avatar 1:53pm Linda Lee:

hello! back after a long time. so glad you're there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Linda Lee!
Avatar 1:54pm Linda Lee:

hi love!
Avatar 1:56pm Wolfgang:

Helllooo, Linda Lee! We were waiting up for you. Make yerself cushy-like.
Avatar 1:57pm Wolfgang:

Ha! Good one, Ortley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Doug Schulkind:

Either I just had a stroke, or this is actually the Detroit rockers Black Merda.
Avatar 1:58pm Linda Lee:

beautiful! thanks my dear!
Avatar 1:59pm TDK60:

Chresti, it's some of them L.A. hippies again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Oh my, this era of Arthur Lee blows my little mind
Avatar 2:00pm northguineahills:

Ok, painted my new bumper, and epoxied the pins to the grill. So, hopefully after tomorrow, my car won't be missing a mandible. At least the labor was done for free.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm chresti:

They're calling our name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm fred:

@Sem: The non-binary movement ignores that some languages have deeper gender issues (in French a bike can be either feminine or masculine, no sense to it). But ey hold that anyone worth anything is speaking English. It takes work. Intersectionality anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Franco Twinkie:

And if don't think so, go turn on your tub! Tell it Arthur!
Avatar 2:03pm northguineahills:

So germany has Munsters, sort of like the 60s TV franchise and later movies...
Avatar 2:03pm TDK60:

Hey Linda Lee.
Avatar 2:03pm Wolfgang:

Arthur was deep.
Avatar 2:03pm Sem:

Well said, fred. Thank you for that insight.
Avatar 2:03pm Linda Lee:

TDK60! how are you?
Avatar 2:04pm Wolfgang:

Franco Twinkle? You shine!
Avatar 2:04pm Wolfgang:

NG Hills: yeah we have a picture of Herman and Lily in the living room.
Avatar 2:05pm northguineahills:

I thought gendered words was confusing in Spanish and French, then I attempted to learn German (still confused)
Avatar 2:05pm TDK60:

Linda- I'm broke, wacky, and holding forth.
Avatar 2:08pm TDK60:

..and how are thee, L. Lee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

@fred: intersectionality all the way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

TDK60: speaking of pronouns… and now we segue into the proper (original) singular of you! Well put!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm fred:

@GST: Sorry to have been so hostile in my earlier comment. I was responding to Sem and didn't realize it might come out as attacking you
Avatar 2:12pm TDK60:

Granny, for a radical, I'm embarrassingly behind the times in my prounouns. I will look into some website that educates...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

fred: thanks for saying so, however i know you to be very considerate about these discussions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm doctorjazz:

Like this track by The Clean.
Avatar 2:14pm StringOFperils:

Good ol Flying Nun sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

TDK60: there is so much great info in the interwebs, feel free to contact me for some links, fascinating, lively, mutating field
Avatar 2:14pm Wolfgang:

You're a good man, Fred.
  2:15pm Jeff g. via app:

What @SOFp said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

and, for the record, i am not a representative of any movement, just a WFMU fan who happens to be genderqueer and likes the "off-topic" conversations we get into around here
Avatar 2:17pm TDK60:

They named a bridge after this band.
Avatar 2:17pm StringOFperils:

They took it to the bridge.
Avatar 2:17pm Linda Lee:

@TDK60~ glad hearing you're together! i guess i'm together too. actually ahd a life plan ..for the first time .. this year! needless to say, suspended by this mishigas..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Has a bridge ever broken in the middle of a song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Songs with burning bridges? Collapsing bridges? Swaying bridges? Fallen arches?
Avatar 2:23pm TDK60:

I thought Go Betweens were from Brisbane. That's where that bridge is they named after them. Maybe they started up there then went down to Melbourne.
Avatar 2:23pm Linda Lee:

don't that crowd sound good.
Avatar 2:24pm StringOFperils:

Avatar 2:28pm TDK60:

Yes, Irene is a special WFMU institution.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Ain't nothing collapsing in this tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm fred:

Irene coming back is wonderful. And there's not enough wonder these days
Avatar 2:29pm Wolfgang:

Oh, you're right, TDK! Showig my ignorance of Australian cities! And I read Forster's autobiography too, duh! Grant & I - highly recommended.
Avatar 2:31pm TDK60:

WolfG. Grant McLennan had some solo stuff I heard, maybe here.
Avatar 2:36pm Wolfgang:

Grant's stuff is really excellent! Horsebreaker Star is a great album, as is Watershed(?)
Avatar 2:49pm TDK60:

WolfG. did a look on Wikip. It says Münster is the bicycle capital of the land.
Avatar 2:51pm TDK60:

Avatar 2:57pm TDK60:

..aren't ya going overtime? I know you're wiping the bar, cleaning the glasses but...
Avatar 2:58pm Wolfgang:

Once again, time management eludes me - I'll be doing another whole set in overtime if ya wanna dance a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Doug Schulkind:

The Stork delivers®.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 3:17pm StringOFperils:

Wow. Pretty great set. It's working for me. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

@Doug: it would not have surprised me if you'd posted a link to an archive of a 3-hour show you did on that very topic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm doctorjazz:

Had some visitors on bomb bike (appropriately spaced), odd to see and speak to people (not on a screen).
(Loving the Canes, and this set!)
Thanks, Stork
