Not sure about the rest of you, but I'm not getting as much done as I would like, even with this extra time. I do spend a lot more time emaiing to check in with people and also use that as an opportunity to share my brilliant political and social commentary with them. I'm so so sure the screeds are appreciated. Hope you're all more productive than I am at present.(I am getting stuff done, for sure, just sayin')

Good morning, Andrew in Toronto...
  6:19am testingwithfire:

@Jeffrey Davison I'm definitely much more idle / less productive than usual . And the days fly by, somehow. I don't quite understand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19am Nulsh:

Jeffrey, managing free time is an art in itself!
Self discipline and limited internet access helps me as a freelancer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20am Jeffrey Davison:

In going back through my CDs (and all of these recent shows are pre-recorded, after the archive shows interlude), I find that a not-insignificant number of musicians seem to either have stopped recording, or their work has yet to post to Discogs, or isn't on Bandcamp, or the group disbanded in short order and/or with a small output, or perhaps they stopped trying to pursue music as a career. There is a chance that there is stuff on Soundcloud or Spotify, but I go to those sites hardly at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22am Jeffrey Davison:

Nulsh: I hear you. Agreed. I do make daily lists, though I will say that the computer is too easy a place to lose yourself in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22am fred:

What extra time? I work 10 to 12 hours a day, though less during weekends. And yet there's talk that the scientific authorities will dock me one or two weeks of vacation time to "compensate for lack of actual work time working from home"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24am Nulsh:

Procrastination: the curse of the creative mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am Jeffrey Davison:

fred, I meant to add that caveat. Many people working from home have to work more hours, as for example, the conferences on the phone or web eat up a lot of time. For parents home schooling, I know that's very difficult as well. I am now unemployed, so my days are mostly trying to catch up with projects left idle the last two years, when my schedule was frankly overwhelming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26am Nulsh:

fred & Jeffrey - agreed, most people work longer hours when working from home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27am Jeffrey Davison:

Nulsh, then I must be very creative! ;
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am Jeffrey Davison:

and fred...that bit about being docked pay, that is unfortunate. I hope that doesn't happen. Sounds so cruel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am Nulsh:

Jeffrey, you said it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29am Goyim in the AM:

My day job contracts have dried nearly completely up, partner is in the pharmaceutical industry -- so I am woodshedding like a maniac on the acoustic bass guitar while she works and works and works like a maniac in the other room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am Goyim in the AM:

Oh, speaking of guitars -- the Holy Grail Guitar Show, which was supposed to be this weekend and is the finest of its kind, is doing a "virtual guitar show" on their website. Plenty of Shrunken Planet-adjacent artists playing demos on some amazing instruments to be seen from some luthiers you ain't never heard of yet at holygrailguitarshow.com this weekend. (Not a plug -- is a non-profit show and I am not involved this year, but I think Shrunken Planetoids will be interested in checking it out after Jeffrey's show.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am Jeffrey Davison:

Goyim in the AM: good luck with the woodshedding. I've done a lot of organizing around my place. As I said, a lot of stuff was put off for the last couple of years. Getting rid of excess stuff (that had to stop more than a month ago, though, with the lockdown). I am getting around to printing photographs that I've shot digitally. Uploaded them all, went through thousands of images and chose those that I want to print, and poised to at least start that. A big project, as these photos go back years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38am Nulsh:

Goyim in the AM - thanks amigo. I have that bookmarked to dive into later. Guitar daft I am.

Jeffery I think my sister has the old Polaroid photos. I’m gonna check in my box. Time on hand. Searching for direction
Avatar 6:46am Jon Etter:

Good morning Jeffrey, Ruth, and all the other Shrunken Planeteers out there! Hope everyone is safe and well.
  6:47am Earth Walker:

Good Morning Ruth !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47am Jeffrey Davison:

Earth Walker: depends on the camera as to whether there is film still available. Very limited. Polaroids are fun to play around with, but kind of expensive too. Any type of digital photography is way cheaper. You can upload to your computer, even from a phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Jon Etter. All good by me.
Avatar 6:52am Jon Etter:

Glad to hear it, Jeffrey!
Avatar 6:56am Ignatatus666:

Good evening all.
Greetings Jeffrey
Not sure if it’s your patch in or my brain but the sound is lower then last week and we had a problem on the last program being not only the DJ drowned out by his background music but the music channels were all off sync.
  6:58am Earth Walker:

Jeffery. So right. My wife and the kids are the tech savvy ones in the picture
I just did a duck duck go and in 1943 The first Polaroid was invented
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01am Jeffrey Davison:

Ignatatus, good morning. You're right. I think I recorded this at a slightly lower level than last week. Tried to do it more or less the same, but was probably too cautious. Noted, for next week's episode, to dial it back up a bit. I did notice that about Joe's show also. Will email him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am Kevin-san:

  7:08am Cooh John:

Good morning Jeffrey and planeteers. The sun is up and so am I.
  7:08am testingwithfire:

@Jeffrey Davison if you look on Spotify you may see work by some of the artists who haven't released on Bandcamp in a while.

I've noticed that pattern with a few artists: think it has to do with how Spotify acquires music (the artist can't opt out easily if the record label wants in). Remember when Taylor Swift wanted out of Spotify a few years ago? https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/taylor-swift-fought-spotify-for-a-huge-win-for-all-musicians.html/
Avatar 7:10am StringOFperils:

I seem to have not quite matched up the start times on some tracks this morning...sorry all, but mostly to those listening in the future!
Avatar 7:19am Deborah:

Good Morning Everyone! My work time skyrocketed when the College where I teach closed its physical plant and put all courses online. I am an adjunct so the pay I receive is so not at all proportional to the number of hours put in teaching and grading papers, not to mention the countless hours of Webex meetings, memos aned more. This inanity will go at least through summer. I have accomplished so little other than sorting CDs, annoying the cat, and walking around the area so I can escape the confines of a studio apartment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am Roger:

Hi Jeffrey, Hi Ruth, Hi everybody! sweet show this AM Mr D!
@Deborah, so sorry. Adjuncts get the short end of the stick every time.
Avatar 7:22am Ignatatus666:

I personally gave up trying to figure out navigating Bandcamp. The app is very uncooperative. They suggest and play music for me that I highly dislike I can’t find genres and often can not find complete albums. I highly like that the majority is not pop or commercial though.I imagine when I type in the Bad Brains they have no agreement with whoever owns the rights but will guide you to covers of the Bad Brains most of which is trash but you don’t know it’s a cover because the description is non existent.
Avatar 7:25am Marshland:

FWIW, once the show's over, you may wish to check out the Leigh-on-Sea Folk Festival stream over this weekend in the UK. Front room performances obviously. Includes a fair few you will have heard played on Shrunken planet in the past :)
Swag For Life Member 7:26am Roadside Picnic:

Hi Jeffrey and planeteers-I tried lock down routines but cant stick with them unless they are really vague and unambitious. Came upon a film called Heart worn Highways about 'out law country' music...just so good ! That's what I want to be post lock down :)
Avatar 7:26am TDK60:

Good morning.
  7:26am testingwithfire:

@Ignatatus666 the Bandcamp app is indeed pretty limited. I've had better luck with the traditional web site, where you can follow genres and get interesting recs that way. Tbh most of my Bandcamp wishlist and purchases come from WFMU leads, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27am Jeffrey Davison:

Deborah: I hear you loud and clear. This seems to be the common experience of people working from home. My sister, temporarily doing telemedicine, is swamped, as everything she needs to do takes a lot longer. Her clinic will reopen in a month or so, which brings more immediate hazards than she currently experiences. I do feel for everyone who is suffering with their job, or lack of it, during this time.
  7:28am testingwithfire:

@TDK60 good morning!

@Deborah what academic field are you in?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am Jeffrey Davison:

Marshland: welcome, and thanks for the tip. Sounds good!
TDK60, good morning.
testingwithfire and Ignatatus666: I don't use the Bandcamp phone app. I use their website on the computer. I love it. Lots of music to explore.
  7:30am somalisa:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning, Roger and thanks for the kind words. Kind of a hippie vibe this hour.

@ testingwithfire: I teach English at a community college in Jersey City; favorite course is journalism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am Jeffrey Davison:

Roadside Picnic: good morning. That film has been recommended to me. I'll look for it. As for staying productive, I guess we all have our own ways of doing so, with varying results!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am LynnsBrother:

Good Morning Jeffrey. I always like Joanna Newsom. When was this one released?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am Jeffrey Davison:

LynnsBrother: good morning. This album is from 2010.
  7:40am Buddha of Suburbia:

Morning Nuuuulllssh!
Avatar 7:41am Deborah:

@Jeffrey Davison: Medicine is fraught with challenge now. I empathize with your sister's concern. Whenever the topic of will the college open in the Fall comes up, the fear is evident. Zoom or Webex can't hide it.
  7:44am testingwithfire:

@Deborah very cool. Community colleges are so important now, for example wrt preserving liberal arts education for students whose families don't have money.
  7:45am testingwithfire:

@Jeffrey Davison lovely show !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am Jeffrey Davison:

Deborah: agreed. Even though we all want to return to a more normal life, it certainly is a concern as to how this is really going to work. Lots of questions. And despite what we'd like to believe, it does seem too early, though the optimist in me (hard to locate, usually) would like to believe that most people will be cautious enough to that we don't drive the spike back up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am Jeffrey Davison:

Busy morning, fixing up some guttering for water butts, then turned round to see Spencer the beagle peeing on the butt. How I chuckled!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am Nulsh:

TDK60 - yeah, pretty much a guitar show being held online, new gear etc. I've sent link to loads of my muso amigos!

Brian, the sun shines precariously in the sky - with a nervous eye on the horizon's gathering of dark clouds!

  8:17am elwyn:

hey everyone

i feel like i am having a very chilled out evening at home in Sydney. i went to a shopping centre today and it felt like pre-Covid times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am Jeffrey Davison:

elwyn: welcome. Certainly, Australia and New Zealand have done a great job fighting the virus, so not surprised. Despite what current is in effect here in NYC, it kinda looked like a regular spring day yesterday, with many people about, and not everyone wearing a mask. Of course, stores still closed, by and large, but lots of traffic also. I fear that people will be drawn outside unnecessarily. I get trips for groceries etc plus a bit of exercise, but it seems that caution is still a good idea.

Avatar 8:29am Woo:

Enjoying this show very much. Not a regular Sat. morning listener. In Chicagoland where I am the golf courses are opening but the holes will be shallower so the golfers don't have to reach in as far. Because the virus could be in the hole.
Avatar 8:30am ken krimstein:

blood on the tracks is such a wonderful (wonder-full) album...both mixes i suppose...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am Jeffrey Davison:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am Jeffrey Davison:

Woo: welcome, and thank you. Funny idea about the golf courses. Is that actually true? It's all so topsy-turvy now I could believe it.
Went to Chicago last summer, and absolutely loved it. I'd love to go back, for the restaurants alone.
Avatar 8:34am ken krimstein:

not to be that guy from the lcd song, but i was lucky enough to see dylan at madison square garden about a month after 9/11 and when he did 'tangled up in blue,' well, it cast a kind of spell...in a good way...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am Jeffrey Davison:

Brian: feels like longer...and welcome.
ken: I can believe it...thanks for sharing.
Avatar 8:35am βrian:

New vocabulary for me: water butt. One might think of it as a particular condition, but no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37am Brian in UK:

@TDK60 you can stream it on MUBI over here, not sure of costs.
Avatar 8:38am Woo:

The holes are definitely shallower. I woke up to that story on the news. And...that smokers may have less chance of contracting Covid because nicotine locks on to receptors blocking the virus. So if that's true then we have truly entered another dimension.
Maybe come to Chicago in 2021 Jeffrey. We're still breaking one day records for infections and deaths.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38am Brian in UK:

Discovered the other day that there is a golf course in Nuuk, Greenland.
Avatar 8:39am Deborah:

@melinda. I hear horror stories all over. Some students have it really rough and cannot get the isolated time to fulfill rigourous course requirements. Some don't care. I just want it to be done but Summer One starts right after Spring semester ends. And so it goes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am Brian in UK:

@βrian it is all in the mind.

We pay for water here by meter so all you that nature can bestow is used.
