@Jett: that's a rather astute sonic allusion.

Le Samourai is da bomb.
  3:35pm ?:

Delon- the handsomest man ever ever.
  3:35pm Matt:

If you haven't seen Alain Delon in color, check out Monsieur Klein.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Passaic River Blues:

@TT: it's mind-blowing. Also, picture BLM activists storming a state house with rifles and semi-autos, shouting "revolution," and demanding the legislature vote down a necessary public health measure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Crudbringer:

Let's chip in to get Sheila a playin' stick. Like, an ivory mini-pool-cue.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm WoodsOfNH:

OK, credit card fixed. Bandcamp purchases (all 13 of them) complete. Lifting a glass of Town Branch bourbon. Cheers!!
  3:36pm Toothgrinder Tom:

Has Sheila seen ‘Purple Noon’ (the French movie with Alain Delon that ‘The Talented Mr Ripely’ was a remake of)? Lots of shirtless Alain Delon action there.
  3:36pm David Fenichell:

If you liked Le Samourai, you should also check out Bob Le Flambeur, another terrific Melville film.
Avatar 3:36pm squideyes:

@Passaic good point.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Kelly Jones:

What's admirable is Sheila B.'s ability to snap my grumpy drunk ass out of CoronaComa and on to the home office dance floor with the gleaming smile of a mindless idiot.
Avatar 3:39pm djsheilab:

I haven't seen Purple Noon. Thanks gang!

Hey, I have that Alisha CD! My favorite cut is Teko Teko (=Like a Virgin).
By the way , Sheila, you should also check out Melville's Deux hommes dans Manhattan, with a fantastic jazz score by Christian Chevalier. I waste way too much time when I'm in Paris looking for that soundtrack.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm WoodsOfNH:

Bandcamp is getting HAMMERED!! Take a look at the what's selling now portion of their website. It's crazy. I have a friend whose son works for them and apparently they've already raised $4.29 million today.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 3:44pm djsheilab:

S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Walt:

DJSB, when you do get around to watching "Purple Noon", just remember to prepare yourself for MAXIMUM AWESOMENESS. (Sorry to shout but I think the movie is that good).
  3:44pm Toothgrinder Tom:

@Matt Monsieur Klein is such a great overlooked movie. I was happy to see it playing at Film Forum a few months ago. It’s almost impossible to track it down on streaming services and I’m not even sure if it’s been released on Blu-ray in the States.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Handy Haversack:

Kelly Jones! Hi there!

Yeah, about to put our Bandcamp list together. Slum of Legs!

:)
  3:46pm WM:

The best Jean-Pierre Melville film I know is  Les Enfants Terribles (1950) based on the  Jean Cocteau novel. I think you can find it on Youtube. If you have a crush on Alain Delon check out  The Eclipse (1962) by Antonioni where he stars with Monica Vitti and Girl on a Motorcycle (1968) where he stars with Marianne Faithful.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:46pm frozen_peas:

tears on my pillow is such a great song!! never heard this version
  3:48pm JakeGould:

@WoodsOfNH: If they raised $4.29 million so far today that means they will exceed what they raised in March: techcrunch.com...

Hey Handy!
Avatar 3:48pm cal:

What a great rendition. Tears on My Pillow

I wonder what Delon looks like now? He must be in his late seventies, I should think.

What fun music! Was gonna listen to recent 7SD archive but this beats 2 old men, anyday! / BBC news sez that Sheila B is a possible Biden vp pick. Wow; good choice- some forced exposure for wfmu.

By a strange coincidence I started reading ‘Moby-Dick’ by Herman Melville for the first time last night.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm The Oscar:

As I mentioned when Joe played the OG version the other day, this song sounds so strange without periodic giggle fits!
  3:50pm Blatherard:

Try to track down JOY HOUSE (1964), directed by Rene Clement, in which Alain Delon gets involved with both Jane Fonda and Lola Albright while on the run from his gangster colleagues -- takes place in a flophouse on the French Riviera -- I found a DVD of this at the Brooklyn Public Library
  3:51pm Jett:

Where's the guy with the big Panama hat with the purple hat band?
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:51pm WoodsOfNH:

Is anybody out there reading pandemic-related novels now? I've seen several people mention that they are. I just don't get it. Why?
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Kelly Jones:

Sheila- I totally bought this song when I heard you play it at some point and it BRINGS ME JOY BITCH!
  3:52pm Toothgrinder Tom:

I don’t think Sheila would enjoy being Vice President. Maybe Secretary of Energy.
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Kevin-san:

I came for the sounds, natch, and maybe some ideas for Bandcamp shopping, now I have a list of movies to watch. Monica Vitti's hair is indeed amazing, Tin in SF

Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Handy Haversack:

I bet there's an impulse to see anything that can be aestheticized can be controlled, @Woods. Takes it from the realm of the overwhelming real to something you can pick up and put down. Plus, frisson of death-drive.

FINALLY finished the wonderful book I had been reading on a Danish expedition to Yemen in the 1760s. So good.

But no, no impulse toward pandemic fiction.
  3:55pm Dave In Leicester:

New Yumi Zouma is a beauty

@Tim in SF:Yes, that string of movies Monica Vitti did with Antonioni are all great. I think Andrew Sarris called her "the pin up girl of the soul."

Jude how do you like your 'chokes?
* I tried stuffing them once, and decided it was just a very labor-intensive way to make a greasy, inedible artichoke.
* I did dice & sautee a couple to make Lidia's artichoke carbonara - that worked well, but I threw out like 75% by weight
* So for now I'm back to just boiling them - easy, you get to eat most of it.

My experience is that the music I like immediately quickly wares off and becomes boring. Conversely,  the music I don't like at first often goes on to become my favorite in the long run. I push myself to listen, read, look at the things I initially don't understand or appreciate at first because that's often the stuff that proves most rewarding in the long run.
