Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Handy Haversack:

Hello, Mary Wing! 100 percent Wingnuts! Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm chresti:

Hi Mary and wingers!
Avatar 12:01pm Mary Wing:

Chresti, I love that you clickystar the entire episode based on ONE SONG! <3
Avatar 12:02pm Sem:

Love this stream. From Nova Scotia's own Hank Snow to the ding!ding!ding! of Mary Wing. Whatever?

Greets, Mary, βrian, Handy H, and the redoubtable chresti.
Avatar 12:02pm Mary Wing:

Hiay Brian and Handy! Keeping count seems pointless now; this is the new normal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm chresti:

Mary, I believe in you 100%!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Phillippe Bastille:

MMMMaaaaaarrrrrryyyyy!!!!!

Avatar 12:05pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Sem, Phillippe, ParUbi, and Roberto! Wednesday Whatever is in effect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm fred:

Good afternoon Mary and all
  12:08pm JakeGould:

Hey Mary! My neighbors have stopped doing karaoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, Mary and creatures of the WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm chresti:

Greets to ye Sem.
Avatar 12:11pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Fred, Jake, and Granny! Karaoke before noon is a thing, now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm doctorjazz:

Hi, just Wing-ing it again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings from March 60th, or whatever.
Avatar 12:19pm Mary Wing:

Hi doctorjazz and Ken! Greetings from Moist 1382!
Avatar 12:19pm Franco Twinkie:

Mary! Hangin' out in our pajamas and drinking coffee on an overcast morning.
  12:21pm JakeGould:

@Mary: The guy does DoorDash and such deliveries and stopped doing it and the gal is an elementary school teacher who is doing lessons via Zoom. So yeah, their attitude is 1,000% whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm doctorjazz:

Would never know it's Blossom Dearie (that's the idea, I suppose), like it, though.
Avatar 12:26pm Mary Wing:

Good morning, Franco! I'm in my pajamas too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Franco Twinkie: so this heavy fog went all the way down there?!
Avatar 12:28pm Franco Twinkie:

Apparently so, Granny. I was just thinking about SF. Who know when we will get up there again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Handy Haversack:

D'oh! Missed Blossom Dearie while I was in the kitchen! Why do I ever leave the laptop?!
  12:30pm JakeGould:

I’m going to bathe and go outside like a normal person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Handy Haversack:

@GST: We love the postcard so much! Thanks from the bottomest heart parts we have for a little bit of mailed joy!
Avatar 12:30pm Franco Twinkie:

Handy! Were you on Techtronic the other day? What was that about?
Avatar 12:30pm Mary Wing:

Yer not fooling us, Jake. ;-)
  12:31pm JakeGould:

I need to go to the post office.
Avatar 12:32pm Roberto:

Smell me when it's over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, Franco! No, it wasn't me. but it was a very close and VERY old friend of mine (first D&D game: I was six, he was five) who's a senior staff technologist at the ACLU. I connected him and Mark Hurst, and they were talking about contact tracing for CV-19 and privacy and other issues about it. Super psyched to have brought them together! And just to have contributed a little bit to WFMU.
Avatar 12:33pm Franco Twinkie:

Oh fucking yeah! I love these guys! Last big rock concert I went to.
Avatar 12:33pm Roberto:

Kind of like "smell ya later."
  12:34pm JakeGould:

I bought some hand sanitizer from a local store and while it works it smells like Jean Nate. I have a funny feeling some bootleg perfume maker has shifted gears to make hand sanitizer and is using their bootleg scents to add something to their product. Sanitizes my hand tho.
Avatar 12:34pm Mary Wing:

Heh, Roberto, just let me know when I'm done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm chresti:

@Granny@12:27, If only! It'll burn off and be in the 80s in an hour or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

chresti: have you set up a tent in your yard yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy Haversack: yay! it made it. so glad to spread a little sparkle your way.
Avatar 12:37pm Franco Twinkie:

I saw one of the first shows The Dream Syndicate ever did, in a clothes store in Pasadena on a Saturday afternoon many, many years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy Haversack: oooh, and cool about the WFMU/ACLU merger! :)
Avatar 12:43pm Hubig Pie:

It's a jingle jangle mornin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, Mary -- tried to catch me again and play R.E.M. when I went to the kitchen. But joke's on you -- I cranked up the volume!
Avatar 12:45pm Mary Wing:

Hi Hubig! We'll jangle for a bit and then move on to other sounds.
Avatar 12:47pm Roberto:

Well this is timely. I'm currently waiting for some marquee ads to be booked on our newsletters so I can test our code changes.
Avatar 12:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Mary, are you sending me messages?
Avatar 12:48pm Mary Wing:

Yes, Franco: don't you be so sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Carmichael:

Heya Mary and Wingnuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm doctorjazz:

Guitar heros, sorta (Television)
Avatar 12:53pm Mary Wing:

Heya back atcha, Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Carmichael:

Can't listen yet. In Skype meetings all day, trying to nail down a purchase of 200,000 N95 masks. Almost there.
Avatar 12:53pm Hubig Pie:

Here comes my favorite part
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm doctorjazz:

Just eating, first food for the day (Ramen), doing this intermittent fasting, probably part of why I haven't gained a ridiculous amount of weight (and trying to keep e exercising)
Avatar 12:54pm Mary Wing:

Yeah, that build up is magic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm doctorjazz:

Me too, Hubig Pie
Avatar 12:54pm Roberto:

Maybe this represents a meteorite striking the moon's surface.
Avatar 12:55pm Mary Wing:

You can still find vendors for N95 masks, Carmichael?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm fleep:

Enters and first song is pre-starred. Sweet. Greetings, Mary and Wingnuts
Avatar 12:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Seen Television in 1978 is burned into cerebel cortex. Verlaine and Lloyed looking like specters, conjuring an indoor weather system.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm doctorjazz:

Great set!
Avatar 12:57pm Roberto:

Damn, it's '78 all over again and the radio in my room is always on in the background.
Avatar 12:57pm Mary Wing:

Ah-hoooo Fleep!
Avatar 12:58pm Franco Twinkie:

On the very stage a few months before Television - Warren!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm doctorjazz:

Saw Television around the same time in NYC, Franco. Saw them about 3 years agoat the Solid Sounds Festival (without Lloyd, though, but they created a fine ruckus).
Avatar 12:59pm Mary Wing:

Heh, possibly my favorite alliteration of all time: little old lady got mutilated late last night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Handy Haversack:

My favorite version of this will forever be Hoboken Jack and Yo La Tengo during Marathon this year. On. Freaking. Fire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm doctorjazz:

Sorry I never saw Zevon.
Avatar 1:01pm Mary Wing:

Oh my gosh, how are kids going to do socially distant trick-or-treating?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm ParUbi:

It is a good album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Trick or treating by drones, no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm fleep:

We will hurl the candy at their sacks and baskets with a trebuchet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy @12:33 you have such intelligent friends. I am hoping to learn by osmosis from them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm ParUbi:

Halloween is going to be different this year :\
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, me, too, Phillippe -- but nothing yet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Andrew Waterloo:

with luck Halloween may be the first half way normal thing we do... with precautions of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Handy Haversack:

I love "Disturbance at the Heron House." One of many burners on Document.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Bas NL:

Avatar 1:08pm Mary Wing:

HI Bas, NGH, and david!! Happy Wednesday, with or without churchbells!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm ParUbi:

We lost track of the day of the week and brought our recycling out a day early
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm ParUbi:

If only my sense of timelessness corresponded to an absence of a huge pile of work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Handy Haversack:

Just tell the work that you are practicing detachment, ParUbi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Michele did a bunch of "Lay Lady Lay" yesterday in case you had decided to forgo 3oak today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm chresti:

I foresee corona virus costumes this Halloween
Avatar 1:15pm Mary Wing:

NGH, have you heard back about the job you interviewed for?
Avatar 1:16pm Mary Wing:

Bite your tongue, Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Handy Haversack:

Good call, chresti.
Avatar 1:17pm Listening Out There:

Just got here. Did you miss me? Don't answer that question...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm ParUbi:

@chresti-- you saw that cop in India with the cool helmet? Papier-mâché will go far this year
Avatar 1:18pm Mary Wing:

Yeah, I can see the "sexy COVID" costumes appearing around September, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Andrew Waterloo:

kids won't have to worry about getting apples

Avatar 1:27pm Franco Twinkie:

NGH, Tony Shalhoub(Momk) came over to cruise our craft service table once when his show was on the stage next to ours. One of our crew told him to get lost. I was embarrassed and ashamed. He seemed kike a nice guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm chresti:

Hahaha sexy plague doctor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Just cross out Ebola and replace it with Covid-19 and there they go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Carmichael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Michael 98145:

We did enjoy Andy Breckman's Monk series
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Carmichael:

He was in Galaxy Quest too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Handy Haversack:

I liked him on Wings back in the mists of time.
Avatar 1:44pm Mary Wing:

I never watched Monk either, but yeah, loved Tony in Galaxy Quest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm chresti:

That typo reminds me of the time, when I used to smoke, asking for "kike" tobacco, instead of "Kite" tobacco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Handy Haversack:

That's an excellent list, Franco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Michael 98145:

RIP, Ivan Král
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Handy Haversack:

I answered the phone when Lenny Kaye called in during Marathon. Kind of a personal high point.
Avatar 1:55pm Mary Wing:

Easter was my first PSG album so yeah, the love affair began here for me too.
Avatar 1:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Ah shit, Ivan too? Saw Ivan with Patti and John Cale in 1976. In the same black box I would later see Television and Warren Zevon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Handy Haversack:

There's a good book that I did production work on called "Do You Have a Band?" about the confluence of the downtown poetry and punk scenes in NYC -- Patti Smith, Lou Reed, etc. all feature a lot, of course. Patti Smith gets a whole chapter. Of possible interest to this crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Michael 98145:

Ivan briefly ran a crepe shop here in Seattle before he returned to Prague in the 90s.
Avatar 2:06pm Franco Twinkie:

I have to get that book, Handy. Since I play guitar about as well as I type, it's always been about been an obsessive about brilliant weirdo musicians and the world the inhabit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Great show, as ever, Mary! Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mary and 100%ers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Handy Haversack:

Gah, Franco, if I were in my office, I would pop a copy in the mail to you -- I have a couple there. But as it is ... ugh, I hate not being able to send books!

There's a quotation from Patti Smith in it, talking to an established poet, as I recall, that ends with "I just got other ideas." That goes through my head all the time. Multiple times a day. Esp. in relation to WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm KevinfromBayRidge:

this has a mid-period Tom Waites vibe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy: sounds like a fascinating read!
Avatar 2:11pm Mary Wing:

Hiya S&M&S and coelacanth! Yes, Kevin, I heard that influence that too...

this Rolf Salo is kinda funny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, coela.
Avatar 2:14pm Mary Wing:

Handy, who said that line, Patti or the other poet? I am so going to keep that on a post-it note, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey coel
Avatar 2:15pm Mary Wing:

And now we return to the Tom Waits/Norah Jones vibe.

I believe I once heard Andy use the K word on 7SD. I didn't know it was a slur until I was college (i suppose not to many to direct said slur where I grew up).

I don't seem to conciously have heard a Nora Jones song before, I have no idea what she sounds/looks like. (I'm not trying to be an edgy hipster, really!)
Avatar 2:23pm Mary Wing:

Hi rw! Give in to some temptations!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm coelacanth∅:

i heard Norah Jones once, maybe 10 years ago.i was lent a cd and i might've even listened to the whole album.
she's good; just not that interesting.
Avatar 2:26pm Mary Wing:

Norah Jones is Ravi Shankar's daughter, FYI.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm coelacanth∅:

i prefer the music of his other daughter, personally; but i didn't dislike Norah's. (and she kind of knocked me out, in other regards!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Ken From Hyde Park:

So Norah Jones is a half-sister to Anoushka Shankar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Doug Schulkind:

We used to call her Norah from the neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Doug Schulkind:

No we didn't, though she did live in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. Anyway, who is this "we"?
Avatar 2:35pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Doug, we like using the royal "we" 'round these parts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm coelacanth∅:

oui
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes, my liege.
Avatar 2:37pm βrian:

If you use the royal "wee," you'll be expected to clean up after yourself.
Avatar 2:38pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh heh, use the porcelain throne, fer cryin' out loud!
Avatar 2:39pm david w:

Bill Frisell played on that debut Nora Jones album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm doctorjazz:

Norah Jones had a way with some cover versions (just played her version of Wilco's Jesus, etc, on Puss n Boots, which I liked a whole lot (the song, and her cover)
Avatar 2:41pm Sem:

Nice change up there, Mary. Sweet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Bas NL:

Pheww! Jesse Harris created a true avalanche of covers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm doctorjazz:

Norah does tend to "plain vanilla" generally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey, did everyone hear that the venerable Irene Trudel is joining the Drummer Stream?!! Her big welcome-back show will be this Monday at noon (ET). Her show will air on the stream every Monday 12-3pm.
Avatar 2:47pm Mary Wing:

No, I am not segueing into Chicago's "Color My World" even though this song always makes me think of doing that.
Avatar 2:48pm βrian:

Aye, Monday was screaming for a good slot — and it got an excellent one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Bas NL:

That's great news @Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Michael 98145:

Yay! Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yay, the Drummer Stream continues to go viral, as it were.
Avatar 2:50pm david w:

Yeah! And yay, Guy K!
Avatar 2:50pm Roberto:

It'll be sweet to have Irene back. She was one of my gateway WFMU DJs.
Avatar 2:50pm βrian:

I sometimes think of the Drummer Stream as WFMU's Left Bank.
Avatar 2:51pm Sem:

Must you smoke that Gitane in here, βrian?
Avatar 2:52pm βrian:

Défense de fumer !
(It's the new France.)
Avatar 2:52pm Sem:

I wear a beret when listening, so there's that.

How gauche, as it were.

Hey everyone, I'm doing an extra show this week. After my regular Friday morning program I'll be coming back on the air at 3pm for a massive, four-hour DISCO DANCE PARTY! The beats-per-minute I'm gonna throw at you will make your arteries beg for mercy. And then beg for more. Tune in this Friday on the Drummer Stream, 3-7pm (ET).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Handy Haversack:

Ann-Margaret is only twelve years older than Kim Gordon. I'm not sure time has EVER made any sense.
