Good evening David and fellow travelers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, David. Hello fred and other passengers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm chresti:

Hi David and riders! Hi fred and Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm coelacanth∅:

greetings David
and subterranean Freedom Riders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm coelacanth∅:

here's a thought: i ate groats last evening.
may i have my groat now, please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm chresti:

coel, your friend is in the picture!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm David Dichelle:

Greetings Fred, Granny, Chresti, Coel! Groats for everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm coelacanth∅:

chresti we're all in this pasture together
Avatar 3:07pm Listening Out There:

Groats? Too bad, I just ate...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

hey there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm David Dichelle:

LOT, you can have it in a g(r)oaty bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm David Dichelle:

Hey Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Stanley:

Hi everyone. Budge up someone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Stanley!
Avatar 3:09pm Sem:

Hello, David, and all aboard. Turkish delight, anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm chris:

rousing beginning to this ride. hello, David and folks. maybe groats will make a comeback in the new recovering economies of the world?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Stanley:

I think I've eaten most parts of the goat in my life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm David Dichelle:

Hello Sem and Chris!
Avatar 3:13pm TDK60:

Hello David, riders. Haven't been on the NYC subway since Mar. 10. So, I switched to the Virtual Leipzig Train.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm David Dichelle:

Always welcome TDK60. Haven't been on a physical train in a while, myself.
Avatar 3:17pm Sem:

Stanley, game for anything, yes?

You may find of interest in the recipe book, How to Cook a Wolf by M.F.K. Fisher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm WR:

Hello all. Listening for a bit while on break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Yvang:

The only train I wouldn't miss is this one. Hello David and Continentallers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm chresti:

I'm eating groats right now, is that okay?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm David Dichelle:

Hey there WR and Yvang!
Avatar 3:19pm Sem:

With a side of Firesign Theatre, I think groats are super, chresti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Otis Fodder:

Hi David! Successfully crossed streams, was just playing a few songs that reminded me of your show and without knowing I was hurdled through time and space (aka - streams) and landed on the Subway! I snuck on, so don't tell the conductor, I'll hide in the lunch car and order a drink and a bag of chips.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

hey, wr! still waiting for an order of postage stamps to arrive and then a zine will be heading your way!
  3:23pm spodiodi:

hi David! nice to be here
hi all!
how are those gorats, chresti? (only recently leanrned of their existence, a couple of days ago while researching eating uncooked oatmeal. steel cut and groats need coopking, but rolled oats are ok without,, btw.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

aww, goatie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm spodiodi:

er groats*, not gorats (which sound slightly more exotic)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm David Dichelle:

Hey Otis, glad to see you on this side of the dial - the conductor is passing out free groats, don't miss it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm David Dichelle:

And greetings Spodiodi and Sweet Corn Lizzie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm spodiodi:

i bet goatie likes groaties
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm WR:

Thank you GST for mentioning it. No rush.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm coelacanth∅:

i eat buckwheat groats dry roasted in cast iron in salads. been doing that for most of my adult life. i'm not super into the tradition groat dishes i've tried.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm chresti:

Thanks Sem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm coelacanth∅:

spodi, rolled oats are already cooked, in the "rolling" process. perfectly edible as they are.
Avatar 3:27pm TDK60:

Just had some steel-cut Irish oatmeal yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Otis Fodder:

My goat came over and is sleeping on my lap. Now I have a cat and a goat on my lap while working. I can do this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm coelacanth∅:

("müesli" contains rolled oats with no further cooking)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm David Dichelle:

I'd go back and see if that goat does in fact enjoy groats, but I'd have to recognize that particular goat first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm WR:

Will continue listening but gotta go back to the work keyboard. Take care all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Otis Fodder:

I think they got confused when I said Groats in a slight slurring while sipping coffee and a small amount please. Now I have 300 Goats incoming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm spodiodi:

i like muesli, but need to seek out some groats 8^O
lol Otis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm coelacanth∅:

...into your study from their many couches and lounge chairs and beds throughout the house?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm dutchtheo:

Hallo, David and transit riders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm spodiodi:

i've been eating a mix of oats, rye, and wheat from TJs, for a while now. i recommend giving it a try if you haven't and can
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Dutchtheo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

that sounds good spodiodi. i try to keep my grains separate, and to limit wheat; but that sounds like a treat. (i deviate)

my usual rolled oat intake is with boiling water, maple syrup and either fresh blueberries or raisins and pecans. maybe a pinch of cinnamon.
i sometimes make müesli.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Brian in UK:

Hello David, is there a seat for an old goat.

Earlier tracks reminded me of Salim Sesler, who I did not see when visiting Istanbul in 2010 much to my frustration as he passed a few years later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm coelacanth∅:

...(or dried mulberries)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm chresti:

Hi spodiodi, I use quick cooking steel cut oats, which are somewhat pre-cooked(?), I grind them up with herbs and dried berries, etc., then steep in a thermal cup w/boiling water, the longer it soaks, the mushier it gets. Important to stir it before putting the lid on to steep..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm coelacanth∅:

thanks to Otis' menagerie there's almost no room left for anyone *besides* old goats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Brian in UK:

Thanks, deep lying one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Otis Fodder:

299 goats just exited off the subway during this DJ break. They are headed to a chat listener's home now! If you start to hear bells, hide!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm spodiodi:

sounds delicious, chresti. (and way better than what i have)

my oatmeal (/rye /wheat) recipe: add water, microwave for 1m39s, serve with black tea
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Brian in UK:

Yipee, Irene is in the Stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Yvang:

That's great news!
Avatar 3:42pm TDK60:

That's great Irene will be back. Her show's a fave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm spodiodi:

cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm fred:

Irene's return is great news! Especially since lockdown means I can actually listen while working
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Otis Fodder:

Just throwing out another... Irene, yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm chresti:

I used to microwave it, until the microwave stopped working.
Avatar 3:44pm TDK60:

I'm roudy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm spodiodi:

love/hate the microwave. better life without? at least in groatville?
related: our vacuum cleaner bit the dust yesterday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm chresti:

I missed the announcement, when is Irene's show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Brian in UK:

chresti, Monday at Noon. ET
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm David Dichelle:

The whole schedule can be seen at wfmu.org/drummer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm chresti:

The microwave was handy during hot weather.
Thanks Brian in UK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Brian in UK:

In this country Maidenhead is a town in Berkshire.
In Cockney rhyming slang a Berkshire Hunt is a (you guess)

I cook porridge (rolled oats) in a microwave, one of the few things I use it for. Just milk and oats. Piety rules!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm chresti:

With the microwave, I would cook the oats and add butter, yum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm spodiodi:

makes sense. i use it to zap cold tea mostly
this jam is bonny as it is roudy as heck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Stanley:

Maidenhead is an unfriendly place.
I know that for a fact.
Hi Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, what-ho!

I never thought much of Kings Lynn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

enjoying the sonic scenery on this ride
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, one thing I really miss is having a pint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Stanley:

My parents lived in Maidenhead, my sister and family are still there. Bourgeois and boring.
Can't speak for Kings Lynn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Stanley:

Brian, me too.
My offie is delivering, which is some comfort.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm David Dichelle:

Glad you're enjoying the view, Granny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm David Dichelle:

I have been to Kings Lynn at least once, but can't remember why.
Avatar 4:03pm TDK60:

I'm unfamiliar with the EyelessI.G. band, have seen the name for a while..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Brian in UK:

David it has no redeeming features but the north Norfolk coast to the East is is wonderful. So flat the sea goes out three postcodes!! Plenty of birds arriving, first landfall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Cmurtha:

Hello goat and subway riders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm David Dichelle:

TDK: They are kind of post-punky, interesting cover of this tune anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm David Dichelle:

Hey Cmurtha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Brian in UK:

@TDK was your visit to Cropredy, the first and last?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm doctorjazz:

Hi folks, taking a little biking break to listen (finally some nice biking weather). Was originally supposed to be biking in Amsterdam now... : (
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Brian in UK:

Just found a BASF Chrome Extra 11 C90 still in the wrapper. Any offers!!
Avatar 4:11pm TDK60:

Brian, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Brian in UK:

David, good bookending.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Brian - 40-year reprise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm David Dichelle:

Hello Doctorjazz, sorry about those plans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm doctorjazz:

My daughter's dog, Maxie, is partgoat, we believe. She'll eat anything-stuff Ozzie will turn his nose up at (I don't even want plain celery, butt Maxie...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, David...things certainly could be worse...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Brian in UK:

@doctorjazz, just to lower the tone, our beagle has been feasting on sheep's poo recently. Do we not know it.
Avatar 4:15pm TDK60:

Brian, would like to go back again some year.
Avatar 4:16pm TDK60:

Music can be funny that way < my philosophical heaviness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Brian in UK:

TDK would love to meet up. Maybe....
Avatar 4:18pm TDK60:

Gotta wait til '21, at least w/Cropredy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm doctorjazz:

We had bunnies hatching in our back yard...we had to be careful not to let Maxie get to the nest alone (and I'm avoiding the items that
Us squeamish humans would recoil at).
Avatar 4:21pm TDK60:

Gotta brush up on my new abnormal routine..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm chris:

i have a part-Beagle poo-eater. weirdo puppers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm David Dichelle:

This is in fact the Heidelberg Jazz Tage version with Jeremy Steig on flute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm David Dichelle:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Carmichael:

Heya David and crew. Brief work stoppage for sustenance.
Avatar 4:31pm TDK60:

I had an old '60s Jeremy & The Satyrs LP, don't know if it's still here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm David Dichelle:

Hey there Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm coelacanth∅:

i missed Oatmealtalk. oh,well -new episodes forthcoming i'm sure.
(was in the kitchen, not cooking nor eating oatmeal)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm David Dichelle:

There's always room here for more groat talk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm doctorjazz:

Ok, off again, maybe later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm coelacanth∅:

...related to Bunnytalk - since i've been at this residence there's been a bird nest every spring and summer inside the roof over the entranceway. the hole in the edge of the roof got significantly bigger 2-3 springs ago. i identified the bird and now i'm blanking out; at least the size of a grackle, but not a grackle.
anyway last week something happened. i stepped outside to broken eggs on the deck. blue like a robin's.
bummer.
i'd like to get to the bottom of it but doubt that i will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm David Dichelle:

Take care, Dr. J.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm coelacanth∅:

tchau dr.j
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Aw, sad about the eggs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm coelacanth∅:

...and add me to those happy Irene's back on the schedule; but alas also add her show to the list of schedule conflicts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm David Dichelle:

True, Coel, archives can be of help in a pinch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm coelacanth∅:

well -i'm never in a pinch! i'm never at a loss of music to listen to. i just like the live radio experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm chresti:

Yeah, Mondays also have Cannibal Stew and Ravioli.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm chresti:

Then, of course there's work when everything blows over. Until then I'll check in with Irene @9am pst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm coelacanth∅:

monday 12-3 Joe Belock, with Alina smack in the middle of that. fortunately though i'll usually be in the mood for either Joe/Joe+Alina OR Irene.
(like fridays with either Bryce or Uncle Michael. just a matter of where i'm at...unless i don't know!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm coelacanth∅:

(or Joe/Alina/DJ Henry)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm coelacanth∅:

i thought you didn't work on mondays & tuesdays chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm chresti:

Normally I work SMTW mornings, coel, until..the 25th of March, was the last day.
Avatar 5:08pm βrian:

Most excellent news re Irene. Her show will be on my schedule, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm David Dichelle:

Greetings, βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm doctorjazz:

Just back from round 2 of biking...when/where is Irene on, cresti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm David Dichelle:

Welcome back, Doc, Irene will be on the Drummer Stream, Mondays 12-3pm, starting next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Stanley:

I need a whisky to go with this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm chris:

i think a Starka would work well with this piece, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Carmichael:

Stanley, I simply need a whisky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Stanley:

@chris - I've never drank a starka. Sounds lovely.
@Carmichael - it's 10.20pm here and since lockdown I've taken to having a 'nightcap'. It goes well with this excellent music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm coelacanth∅:

i'll have a whiskey to go please, and another one for here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, just has an eau de vie to settle the stomach.
These are the only spirits I want tormenting my body.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm chris:

i've not had a starka, either, Stanley. i do like a good Rye whisky, so i'm sure i'll pick one up in future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Stanley:

Brian - Never trust anything without a cork in it.
Avatar 5:27pm Listening Out There:

Just got back. Is this the Revenge of the Latvians section of the program?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Stanley:

chris - I'll mention it to my Polish friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm chris:

switching to screw caps caused quite a row in Scotch circles, when Johnny Walker did that in the late 70's(?)... i think one of the touted benefits was the Mrs. not hearing the pouring of another round.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Stanley:

Yeah, I have the same trouble myself, chris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm David Dichelle:

Here's a cello rebuttal.
  5:34pm Dean:

Baillie's traversal of Britten's solo 'cello suites and sonata are magnificent. Headington would have been three years my mom's junior. She's 93 today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm chris:

Happy birthday, Dean's mom!
  5:38pm Dean:

Thank you, chris. She was in decent spirits, despite having broken her hip a couple weeks ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm David Dichelle:

Hello Dean, please wish her a happy birthday and a good recovery as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Stanley:

93! Well done Dean's mom.
  5:40pm Dean:

Thank you, David and Stanley.

When this Headington disk was reviewed in Fanfare in late '97, one of the reviewers wrote, "Where Headington scores an unequivocable hit is in the single-movement Serenade for cello and strings (first performed in 1995), which is gently informed by the spirit, not of Britten this time, but of Elgar, whose own Cello Concerto steals into Headington's fabric in a gentle tribute."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Stanley:

'steals into Headington's fabric in a gentle tribute.' - nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm chresti:

Happy 93, mother of Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm doctorjazz:

Happy Birthday, Mom of Dean!
Glad to hear Irene is back with a regular slot (and filling some of the big Monday daytime hole)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Howdy David. I't nice to come home to beautiful music and air conditioning after the aggravation of driving around in the heat trying to get stuff done.
Avatar 5:48pm Sem:

A gentle tribute, a nuanced appraisal. Like that very much.
Enjoyed the last 45 minutes of your program w/ dinner, thank you, David. My stop. See you and all a little farther down the line.
  5:49pm Dean:

Thanks, chresti and doctorjazz.

Of this recording by Xue Wei another FF reviewer wrote in '92 that Headington's "1959 violin concerto is lyrical and glowing, the idiom comfortably tonal but spiced with a subtle use of dissonance to heighten tension... Once again Xue-Wei plays gorgeously, never losing his lustrous tone."

Needless to say, I love reading Fanfare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Franco, glad to have you here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, glad to hear Mom is doing OK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Stanley:

See you Sem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Sem!
  5:51pm Dean:

Thanks, Franco. She's plugging along, making jokes, but not about being bed-ridden.
Avatar 5:52pm TDK60:

I like this cell'er stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm David Dichelle:

Unfortunately we only have time for the first movement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Carmichael:

A lot of birthdays today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Franco Twinkie:

I'll bet! My mom fell down and fracture her hip around Thanksgiving, and that was the beginning of the downward slide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Carmichael:

Scott Williams, happy birthday! And Kat in Chicago!
  5:54pm Dean:

My mom's downward slide began with a stroke on Christmas 2011, a year and a half after the death of my father. Yet she persists! Moving her from SoCal to be near us -- even though we can't visit her these days -- turns out to have been a good decision.

My mom fractured her femur twice. The second time was the beginning of the end (but, she had dementia, lung cancer, severe anemia, just needed it to push her over the edge).
Thanks, David!
