Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello!!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Rich in Washington:

Hi!
Avatar 7:01pm spacebrother:

Hey!
Avatar 7:01pm spacebrother:

False start!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's like we're in the same room :-)
Avatar 7:03pm spacebrother:

Sounded good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

THAT GUITAR
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Otis Fodder:

Listening in and here for the 10cc musical injection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Rich in Washington:

Love Godley & Creme. I think I discovered them the same time you did, spacebrother. A late night DJ I used to listen to was apparently a huge fan, so played lots of their stuff.
Avatar 7:05pm spacebrother:

Hey Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

10cc are just sheer perfection
Avatar 7:05pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

as a proud owner of "I'm Not In Love" 7" (a 10p find from Birmingham Music & Video Exchange) I had to turn up for this Hey GG, Greg, Otis, Rich and all who will write under this message
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Rich! Hi Otis! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Photocopy! :-)
Avatar 7:06pm spacebrother:

Yeah, Rich, we all came to them by different means, but I'm now proud of it!
Avatar 7:06pm spacebrother:

@ Photocopy - Nice find!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is a full-on memory song for me <3
Avatar 7:08pm spacebrother:

That transition to the stereo at the beginning of this song is like the bone turning into the spaceship in 2001.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah. I had no idea back then that G&C came from 10cc, but soon became a fan of that band as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Aitch:

Not 10CCs of disinfectant though folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

God yes. 10cc KNEW the studio. Knew it. They could work a studio like very, very few others. And write songs. And play. And harmonise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Rich in Washington:

Still kills me that my copy of Freeze Frame doesn't have the title track. Perhaps a pressing mistake.
Avatar 7:09pm spacebrother:

@ Aitch - LOLL!
Avatar 7:10pm spacebrother:

@ Rich - Might be rare?
Avatar 7:10pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:08 spacebrother: I guess their studio (strawberry?) was pretty 2001 by late 70s standards. Apart from their won work Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures was recorded there.
Avatar 7:10pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

not "won" but own work
Avatar 7:11pm spacebrother:

@ Photocopy - Yes, I think they produced many other bands there. And commercials.
Avatar 7:12pm spacebrother:

and I read that the name came form the Beatles song.
Avatar 7:13pm spacebrother:

This might be my favorite 10cc song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

On the phone! Internet went out again
Avatar 7:14pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:12 spacebrother: if I ever have heard of this, I have forgotten about it. I guess I learn something new every day, even if it was old news...
Avatar 7:14pm spacebrother:

History is never old news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I am holding on to this connection *by my fingernails*
Avatar 7:16pm spacebrother:

@ GG - Stay with us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm hanging in there! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is so good :-)
Avatar 7:18pm Mr Fab:

Ah, greetings my friends...the only 10cc songs i know are "Not in Love" and "Dreadlock Holiday" which are both horrible. But nuthin wrong with this stuff. Dang, wish i knew which old bands i dismissed as commercial bores actually had cool stuff. But that would me require listening to the entire Starland Vocal Band back catalogue, ha ha, not sure its worth it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ooof. The guitar on THIS :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I'm Not In Love is genius. Greg and I will arm wrestle ya ;-) lol
Avatar 7:20pm spacebrother:

@ Fab - Yeah, it was "uncool" in my day to like "overproduced" bands, so i had to like 10cc etc. in secret while I was listening to the current stuff.
Avatar 7:21pm spacebrother:

I'm Not In Love is like being cuddled in a big sound cloud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Dreadlock Holiday tho ... I'll give you that ;-)
Avatar 7:21pm spacebrother:

Yes, the lyrics are a bit irritating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The concept of the Starland Vocal Band having a back catalogue is *terrifying*.
Avatar 7:23pm spacebrother:

Yes, i will draw a very wide line at SVB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Rich in Washington:

I remember hearing a snazzy cover of Art.. by accapella group The Bobs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My boyfriend at college had tickets for us to go see 10cc and then announced he had a cold .... And then I found out that he'd taken another girl. The girl was neither here nor there and neither was he to be honest. I was only pissed off because I missed my shot at seeing the band. Still pisses me off.
Avatar 7:25pm spacebrother:

@ Rich - I seem to remember that too! Gotta look for it.
Avatar 7:26pm spacebrother:

@ GG - SAD story. Oh no.
Avatar 7:27pm spacebrother:

The little kid part!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

He could have done what he liked with the girl - but he should have given me the bloody tickets, the swine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Otis Fodder:

Starland Vocal Band... ha ha ha. Food just arrived, off to eat. Will catch up with the 2nd half in the archives for this one for sure. Nite' all!
Avatar 7:29pm spacebrother:

OK, seeya Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hugs, Otis! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Aitch:

Kindred spirits to my beloved Sparks perhaps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I LOVE SPARKS :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Seen them twice in concert - just brilliant
Avatar 7:33pm spacebrother:

@ Aitch - Good point!
Avatar 7:34pm spacebrother:

I saw Sparks play a fraternity party. Surreal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I need a time machine for that :-)
Avatar 7:35pm spacebrother:

I also saw them play at Disneyland, strangely enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Aitch:

They've never toured Australia sadly. Not through lack of asking though
Avatar 7:35pm spacebrother:

Buttholes!
Avatar 7:35pm Mr Fab:

Huh, had no idea 10cc were considered funny. They SOUND serious! Why is "Not in Love" considered a joke song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - because he clearly *is* in love but he's trying to be macho and pretend he isn't ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The headphones have gone on so I can swim in this :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have been known to sing this. :-D
Avatar 7:40pm Mr Fab:

Very Fripp-y guitar.
Avatar 7:40pm spacebrother:

I have never tried to sing it. Maybe I will try next time I have a frog in the throat.
Avatar 7:40pm spacebrother:

@ Fab - YES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The trick is to make weird faces ;-)
Avatar 7:41pm spacebrother:

@ GG - LOL!
Avatar 7:42pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Greg, where did you get the Beatles connection to the name 10cc? I just read two versions re: the origin of the name: 1) Jonathan King claiming he saw a dream about standing in front of Hammersmith Odeon (/Apollo) with a boarding sign:"10cc The Best Band in the World". 2) a more than average volume of semen - to emphasise the potency of the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This and Zappa's "Dangerous Kitchen" - perfect karaoke ;-)
Avatar 7:43pm spacebrother:

@ Photocopy - They named Strawberry Studio after "Strawberry Fileds Forever."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - JK and semen. That's the origin :-)
Avatar 7:43pm spacebrother:

I didn't know about the dream story!
  7:43pm Martinibomb:

Hi Spacebro! Listening while I work. @GG thanks for the music earlier.
Avatar 7:44pm spacebrother:

Hey MB - Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think King read an article about 10cc being the average amount of semen ... And the rest is history
Avatar 7:44pm spacebrother:

I feel like I've lost some listeners...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you MB! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This show is fantastic :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Rich in Washington:

I am in a state of galvanotaxis because of that guitar solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Rich in Washington:

That was quite a Gizmotron workout.
Avatar 7:47pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:43 spacebrother: hah, right, of course. Photocopy cha cha is a bit messed up. For a while I thought:"now which Beatles lyric mentions 10cc, I am The Walrus? Revolution Number 9? Some song played backwards?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Rich in Washington:

I should probably listen to the full Consequences again. I no longer own it but have that promo 'Music from Consequences' album.
  7:47pm Martinibomb:

I worship Peter Cook
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - trivia question. Which US band is 10cc's equivalent? :-)
Avatar 7:49pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:44 spacebrother: because of what is on the menu tonight? Now, can one lose listeners in any better way?
Avatar 7:49pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:47 DJ GeorgyGirl: now this is a difficult one! I really have no clue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Nah - your listeners are too blissed out on the music to comment :-)
Avatar 7:50pm spacebrother:

I shouldn't care who's listening. We are having fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Rich in Washington:

I've always thought this song was lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - it's so *lush* :-)
Avatar 7:52pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:47 DJ GeorgyGirl: Lovin' Spoonful?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - got it! :-)
Avatar 7:52pm spacebrother:

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This track is BLISS
Avatar 7:53pm Mr Fab:

American equivalent? Post-"good Vibrations"/"Pet Sounds" Beach Boys?
Avatar 7:54pm spacebrother:

@ Fab - Maybe, but I can't think of one at the moment.
Avatar 7:55pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:52 DJ GeorgyGirl: I am so slooooow. I mean last Friday you came up with 2 correct answers when I had my Beatles For Sale/Badfinger vocal harmony hook-quiz, and like I said it was a bit "name two Russian cities (the correct answer is the two I am thinking of)" type of quiz...
Avatar 7:55pm Mr Fab:

I was answering " US band is 10cc's equivalent?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - in the name sense ;-)
Avatar 7:57pm spacebrother:

This show runs overtime quite a bit.
Avatar 7:57pm spacebrother:

5 mins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And that was after taking a song out! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Aitch:

Enjoyed that, thanks!
Avatar 8:00pm spacebrother:

@ Aitch - Thank you!
Avatar 8:01pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

if it was to go record shopping, I might go and hunt for these albums you have just played. How can this music be a guilty pleasure?
Avatar 8:01pm Mr Fab:

They were doing parodies of Elvis n stuff? Man, i wanna hear that 1st album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Rich in Washington:

Great show today, Greg and GeorgyGirl!
Avatar 8:02pm spacebrother:

@ Photocopy - Do it and find some rare stuff and tell us about it!
Avatar 8:02pm spacebrother:

Thank you Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This was so much fun - thank you for asking me to take part :-D I had a blast!
Avatar 8:03pm spacebrother:

@ Fab - the first album was self-titled.
Avatar 8:03pm spacebrother:

Thank you loads and loads GG! Let's do another show soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes please :-)
Avatar 8:04pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

if it was SAFE (or in most cases even possible) to go record shopping I meant @8:01, one of those-at-risk, me. Godley & Creme surprised me. I mean I liked it a lot to my surprise.
Avatar 8:04pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

You must do a second one - GG, are you gonna play 10cc next friday or do I remember wrong?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

dang, sorry i missed it! Archives here i come!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The origins of 10cc :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Rich in Washington:

It was like an Apollo/Soyuz linkup!
Avatar 8:05pm Mr Fab:

Siamese shows, great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yay! :-)
Avatar 8:06pm spacebrother:

@ Rich - You're right!
Avatar 8:06pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@8:05 DJ GeorgyGirl: yay!

thanks Greg & GG!! Thanks for company everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Rich in Washington:

See you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bye everyone - and thank you, Greg! :-)
Avatar 8:07pm spacebrother:

This was one of he most fun shows in awhile. Thanks again, GG.
Avatar 8:08pm spacebrother:
