Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Ath:

Doing alright, hello all!
Avatar 12:03am sv:

Avatar 12:03am sv:

hello andrew, chresti and ath!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...now we can connect names with faces! Aren't we lucky! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am Ken From Hyde Park:

Yay, Björk rjörcks!
Avatar 12:04am sv:

she's the best!
  12:04am JakeGould:

Hey SV! Us Bjork gonna need a bigger boat?
Avatar 12:04am sv:

any of y'all seen drawing restraint 9? it's been on my list for a while
Avatar 12:05am sv:

hey jake! we need a smaller boat so as to avoid any ripples large enough to attract the attention of the leviathan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am mariano:

That's right, Mr. Pumpy, lol. I haven't seen Drawing Restraing, sv, but I did manage to make it through the Cremaster Cycle when all that was going on in the early 2000s.
Avatar 12:06am sv:

no kidding! what'd you think? that's also on my list, would like to catch it [or pieces of it] in theaters if they ever show it again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...haven't seen it either. smaller boat, yes! let us slipstream through the tulips...
Avatar 12:08am sv:

that's the idea!
Avatar 12:08am mb:

that was an interesting start and a tight segue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...where did you catch that? NYC I'm assuming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Scott Williams:

Digging where you're going tonight, SV!
Avatar 12:09am sv:

hey mb! thanks for the kind words - some of the other segues in this show ain't so good so i'm gonna appreciate the ones that work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am mariano:

That's a tough one, sv. I'm no art maven, so I have no way of really evaluating it. The films have some absolutely brilliant moments, they're visually really arresting in places. Then there are parts that are incredibly drawn out and tedious (especially in 3). The whole idea behind the cycle is waaaay out there. I've read synopses and can follow along, but wouldn't trust myself to be able to explain it. My verdict: Guy's got one hell of an imagination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...this is my favorite Ash Ra Tempel album! Not on the top of many lists, but it just sends me. Great choice...my friend!
Avatar 12:11am sv:

Hey Scott! i'll try to keep bringin' the hits!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am mariano:

Mr. P: Yeah in NYC when the big show at the Guggenheim was on and they played the films at various places in the city.
Avatar 12:12am sv:

mariano, i think that's probably about the impression i'd get after watching the films - i've seen a couple of matthew barney's shorter films and thought they were really interesting, if esoteric
Avatar 12:13am sv:

pump, i've got 3 ash ra tempel records in my library - i think schwingungen is my favorite of the bunch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am coelacanth∅:

hey sv and nowhere creatures
Avatar 12:14am sv:

hey coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Mr. Pumpy:

coel...what up?
Avatar 12:17am Fox:

Gooooood evening everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am mariano:

Hey coela!

One scene that was really cool in Cremaster 2 was of a recording studio vocal booth filled with bees, the buzz going through the mic and really amplified, with Dave Lombardo bashing out a thrash beat in another room. Then in the control room there's Steve Tucker sitting on a sofa covered with bees, growling the lyrics into a telephone. Murphy's Law and Agnostic Front are in 3.
Avatar 12:18am sv:

hey Fox!
Avatar 12:18am sv:

mariano, that's so cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...if you haven't, Voyage 34 - The Complete Trip by Porcupine Tree is a cool release. There is a guitar motif in it which many think is lifted from Pink Floyd's, The Wall (No Education), but in reality it is Steven Wilson's homage to Manuel Göttsching's Inventions For Electric Guitar, which is widely considered an Ash Ra record. Good stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am coelacanth∅:

hey Mr.P! mariano!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am Mr. Pumpy:

@coel...grab any bandcamp gems in the past few days?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am mariano:

Oh come on, like Omar Blondahl wasn't an East German spy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Mr. Pumpy:

Young Widows and Explosions in the Sky are two keepers...and so different from one another. I already owned them though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Mr. Pumpy:

  12:25am Dean:

I've seen Masley playing corners in Berkeley quite a bit. Amazing guy.
Avatar 12:27am sv:

omar blondahl's visit to newfoundland was obviously a cover for covert forays across the border into the northeastern most reaches of the US
Avatar 12:28am sv:

that's rad, dean! i'd love to see him do his thing in real life
  12:30am Dean:

He's very focused.
Avatar 12:30am Blues Mandinga:

Avatar 12:30am sv:

hey blues!
Avatar 12:31am sv:

i also woulda loved to see laraaji performing on the street back in the day
Avatar 12:32am Blues Mandinga:

Ea! sv!
Avatar 12:33am sv:

ichiko aoba has maybe the purest voice
Avatar 12:34am slugluv1313:

good evening, sv and everyone!
ooooo i missed the Cymbalom!
must catch on the archives :)
  12:34am Dean:

totally forgot about Laraaji! Another Berkeley guy, Josh Allen, woodsheds on street corners here now and them. Solid tenor sax player.
Avatar 12:34am sv:

hey slug, welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Mr. Pumpy:

slug...hey there!
Avatar 12:36am sv:

hi freeform hunker downers!
Avatar 12:39am sv:

hey greatb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am Mr. Pumpy:

greatb, hola!
Avatar 12:40am sv:

ya really gotta love music, ya know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am Mr. Pumpy:

I know
Avatar 12:43am sv:

just sometimes get struck by it and i wanted to say it!
  12:44am greatb:

this show is always a pleasant reminder for me to shut off those lights, take some melatonin and vibe to some sweet sounds before beddy bye
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...the new Elder album just dropped...doom lords gone prog, then some, and beyond. I spent time with it and it has come around and delivered the goods. I'm recommending it to anyone that is way into tunes. It's a ride that has divided fans and critics...often an earmark of quality! beholdtheelder.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...I like it. It's a command! "ya really gotta love music, ya know"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am mariano:

There's a reason the Greeks made music one of the seven liberal arts.
  12:46am greatb:

amen Mr Pumpy.... it's really the equivalent to the first commandment for me
  12:47am greatb:

"Pythagoras conceived the universe to be an immense monochord, with its single string connected at its upper end to absolute spirit and at its lower end to absolute matter--in other words, a cord stretched between heaven and earth."
-Manly P. Hall, The Secret Teachings of all Ages
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am coelacanth∅:

Pumpy yes a lot! young widows is great! and a few days ago
mäander and Bobby Previte -totally stoked to listen to those loudly tomorrow!
Avatar 12:48am sv:

thanks, pump! adding that elder record to my want list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am mariano:

I love that, greatb.
Avatar 12:52am sv:

this track really blew me away earlier today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am coelacanth∅:

listened to the whole explosions in the sky today and decided once and for all what i've felt for a long time which is that they have a formula that they barely deviate from... i bought it anyway! but i only gave 'em a buck. i feel there are 2 standout tracks: the last one and another (maybe the first?)
...i already have 2 of their albums.

- so far there's only been one that i didn't get. a couple a days ago. a little too digital-sounding for my taste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am Mr. Pumpy:

@coel...yes! I agree. I like to throw it on for doing chores or reading, but they are a one trick little horsey...no doubt. I don't throw them on much, but they do relax me...and have some mellow chops.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am coelacanth∅:

right. good music as a cooked breakfast today. (at 3)
  12:59am JakeGould:

Regarding Matthew Barney and The Who Cremaster cycle, it’s like any art: If you get it and it resonates with you, that’s it. That said, it’s all filled with Catholic references and allusions and if that is not something you have some exposure to it all falls flat.
But “Dancer in the Dark?” *chef kiss into the air*
  1:00am JakeGould:

“the whole”
  1:00am greatb:

mariano & MP i take it to mean basically we're either a rainbow chromatography of harmonics or we're all wearing a pot on our head as Moe bangs it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am coelacanth∅:

i have been going through some bandcamp bookmarks and wishlist items and getting them while i'm at it.
now, as i'm sure you've learned, they're waiving their (fair) share on friday again.
i already have 3 things in my cart!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am mariano:

I vote for the Moe scenario.
  1:01am Travis:

I like this. The vocalist sounds like the guy from Drive Like Jehu.
Avatar 1:01am mb:

thanks for the heads up, coel!
Avatar 1:01am sv:

i was raised episcopal so i think at least some of it'd work for me [i'd hope some theology stuck with me] - i still need to see dancer in the dark too!
  1:02am greatb:

it's the one that resonates (!) most with me mariano :)
Avatar 1:03am sv:

very much looking forward to spending lots of money on bandcamp next friday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Richy4619:

o Dead Western my heart swoons of Sacramento thx SV <3
  1:04am greatb:

i swear i need a bit of script that dumps every bandcamp link from fmu playlists into my wishlist...
Avatar 1:04am Hubig Pie:

Autechre, me likely
Avatar 1:04am sv:

thank you, richy! i listened to that track yesterday and it knocked me flat out, knew i had to play it tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am Mr. Pumpy:

I voted for Moe Szyslak
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am coelacanth∅:

you know, i don't mind at all that bandcamp takes 10%. they deserve it. but at the same time i think the bandcamp folks must be doing pretty well!
Avatar 1:05am sv:

hubig, i love autechre - took years for their music to click with me but once it did
  1:05am JakeGould:

“Dancer in the Dark” resonates with me because while I don’t really care for Lars von Trier, Robby Müller — cinematographer for some classic Jarmusch films — is cinematographer and it’s beautiful to look at. And Bjork is an immigrant factory worker treated like crap and that works for me too.
Avatar 1:06am sv:

yeah, as someone who puts stuff on there myself i don't mind them taking a slice so long as they can stay afloat. they provide quite a service.
Avatar 1:07am sv:

any of y'all seen The Juniper Tree?
  1:08am greatb:

coela, do you mean the artists or the people who run bandcamp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am coelacanth∅:

i know,sv i have 5 of your releases!
(well -2 are songs you weren't taking money for)
Avatar 1:10am sv:

i appreciate the support, coel!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am coelacanth∅:

greatb i mean the people who own bandcamp. they must be very wealthy at this point.
- and good for them.
  1:11am JakeGould:

Bandcamp is truly keeping the indie spirit alive online.
Avatar 1:11am Hubig Pie:

This is beautiful. Sounds like a movie score
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Mr. Pumpy:

@Jake...I hear you! Müllers work in Dancer in the Dark is amazing, as in most whatever he works on. Paris, Texas; Barfly; and Dead Man! I highly appreciate the color palette in Dancer in the Dark, which I'm sure he was instrumental in as well. Good stuff.
  1:12am greatb:

true enough. and at the same time i can't imagine they're profiteering exorbitantly given all the storage space/bandwidth it takes
Avatar 1:14am cocoon:

ive seen the juniper tree. loved seeing baby bjork and the icelandic scenery
  1:15am greatb:

my hope is that people with a steady income during this time consider cutting out garbage commercial services and support us starving artists in these more direct ways
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am coelacanth∅:

one thing i've bookmarked for friday is another fmu commentboarder "WillCrete".
i must've bookmarked his page a long time ago but it fell through the cracks.
...i'm not endorsing it yet; but i have a feeling there's some goodness in his catalogue. giving it a good listen between now and friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am mariano:

Oh yeah, I've always meant to see Juniper Tree, appreciate the reminder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am coelacanth∅:

greatb good point -especially as they store almost everything in .wav format.
still a whole lot less overhead than storing physical items.
Avatar 1:19am sv:

i think criterion added it to their collection [maybe]
  1:20am Dean:

According to a couple independent sources, Bandcamp's operating revenue is $100,000. That's peanuts.
  1:21am greatb:

exactly and that it gives folks a way to share what they bought without necessarily bringing more plastic into the world. $100k- wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am mariano:

I'll check it out, thanks sv.
Avatar 1:22am cocoon:

i watched it on criterion streaming but i dont think its out on dvd yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Mr. Pumpy:

Sumac! I was handed the full length previous to this one to review as my first job for my last writing gig. It was a pleasure at the time. I soon sabotaged myself a year and a half later...and this band probably best encapsulates how I was feeling for EIGHTEEN months! so emotive. Aaron turner does it right. in my stupid opinion! (that was a big part of the problem...it's all so silly, reviewing a large piece of work with 24 hours notice! Thanks for listening, but SUMAC brought all f those feelings rushing back…and they kick out the cathartic jams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am coelacanth∅:

i assume that's per year, right?
...it is peanuts, relatively speaking... but i could live comfortably on that for 3 years.
...or to put it another way, if i made that much money i'd buy 4 times more music from bandcamp than i do now!
(and physical copies, when available)
Avatar 1:25am sv:

Sumac is one of the most creative bands in metal right now, i think! i was late to the party on them but i really, really like their music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am coelacanth∅:

...well, physical copies, depending on how into the music i am and how attractive the package is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26am Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar 1:27am mb:

Sumac has been a very grassroots find for me. Saw a guy with a Sumac shirt on the subway the day after i saw Russian Circles open for Mastodon. I had read an interview with Brian Cook and made the connection. A rare instance that i didn't hear them here 1st.
  1:27am greatb:

it is amazing to think that single big-name artists probably have tour budgets 100x-plus that and places like fmu and bandcamp are running entire ecosystems on a fraction
  1:28am Dean:

Yes, annual revenue, according to these sources. But since Bandcamp is a private company, it's hard to know how accurate that figure is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Mr. Pumpy:

I saw Sumac open for Neurosis a few years back. Needless to say...it rocked my socks right the fuck off my foots!
Avatar 1:29am mb:

This is a nice tid bit "A live album recorded at Brian Turner’s WFMU radio show was released on February 2, 2018 through SIGE Records as cassette edition limited to 200 copies."
  1:29am Dean:

FWIW, the sources I consulted were Mint Global and Orbis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Mr. Pumpy:

@mb...those are some of the best connections and discoveries. Happenstance, albeit well informed...
Avatar 1:31am mb:

So lucky i got to see Aaron Turner (of Sumac) with Isis. Those were true jams when not many heavy bands were jamming live. They toured with the mighty Candiria a bunch,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Mr. Pumpy:

Confession, I still haven't eaten dinner because I have not been able to stop listening since Gaylord's show for long enough to concentrate on putting some food together. Not complaining...just observing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Mr. Pumpy:

@mb...yes! Great memories of some amazing ISIS shows. They did it up proper. I don't take those moments for granted.
Avatar 1:35am sv:

ugh, isis broke up before i got a chance to see them. i was such a huge fan in high school. They played at this now defunct venue called the Bottletree but it wasn't all ages so i missed out :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Mr. Pumpy:

@mb...I saw ISIS open for Neurosis as well. BUT, ISIS headlining was always a true treat.
  1:35am ZeeBee:

I am really loving this album. Maddie (midwife) is a friend and such a great person! Psyched to hear her on the show tonight!
  1:35am greatb:

eating and sleeping are overrated ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar 1:37am sv:

zeebee, her music is amazing! the new record is so good. i actually had a listener tell me about her last album, which is also exceptional.
Avatar 1:37am sv:

Birmingham indeed!
  1:37am JakeGould:

That $100,000 figure seems like a misinterpretation; perhaps it’s just the $$$ left over after pay and operating budget is handled. Bandcamp has about 29-30 staffers spread all over the world. It’s all remote work.
  1:38am ZeeBee:

I think it was maybe me! I used to use a different handle, Zpulpa. Haha. Thanks for playing. I listened to this new one in the bath the day it came out and felt so shaken by it, in a good and heavy way.
  1:38am greatb:

oh nice... i had that midwife bookmarked... would be a nice one to get on vinyl...
  1:40am ZeeBee:

Loving the whole show by the way! Sunday nights have become good listening time for me lately so happy to get to know nowhere places more.
  1:41am Jim H:

Love this White Poppy so much.
Avatar 1:41am sv:

i think it was you, zeebee! many thanks for putting me on to some great music, and for listening :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Mr. Pumpy:

Did you know anyone that used to work there? I know this fella Tom B. that worked there for many years...I know him from the ol' and now defunct stonerrock.com message boards! Anyhow...you may know who I mean if you were of age at all before they closed down. You may have just been a patron, but it sound like the joint had a family vibe from all I've heard about it. Either way...cool to hear the name mentioned here.
Avatar 1:44am sv:

hey pump, i actually never went there unfortunately - it closed down before i was old enough to go and hang out there. real shame - it was the one place in birmingham (aside from the firehouse) that consistently booked more adventurous music when i was growing up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am Ike:

Excellent sounds!
Avatar 1:44am sv:

thanks, ike!

FWIW, if you do the math on the last “no fee” day, they pulled in $4.3 million which is 15x a normal Friday. That means a normal Friday is $286,000. Assuming their fees are 10% to 15% that is $28,000 to $42,000 per day normally. Do the rest of the math and the $100,000 figure makes less sense.

Anyway, goodnight folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am Mr. Pumpy:

Clan of Xymox! sv...you're bringing it all back home!
Avatar 1:48am sv:

night, jake! thanks for tuning in :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am Mr. Pumpy:

Too bad about Bottletree. I'm hoping you had a joint when you were of age that was similar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jake. those figures make more sense to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am Mr. Pumpy:

I love math, I guess that means I am actually tired! I didn't dive into it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am coelacanth∅:

so, ZeeBee is zpulpa, huh? haha
...did you ever make that tape for our cassette-trading club?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am mariano:

Didn't know you were from Alabama, sv.
Avatar 1:53am sv:

yep! born and raised in Birmingham

Sun Ra country
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am Tommy in Neversink:

I LOVE your show
  1:55am ZeeBee:

Yeah damn maybe it was a bad move to change my handle, lost all my old pals haha. I made some recordings but the exchange conversation dwindled pretty quick, I liked the idea though
Avatar 1:56am sv:

we had a jazz trio (i think) come perform some sun ra for an assembly at my high school - it was really cool
Avatar 1:56am sv:

thanks, tommy!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am Mr. Pumpy:

I thought this was Greater Than One for a short minute there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am brycepunk1:

I have been having quite a time in my mind to this mix tonight. I did not want to come down but I needed to in order to say thank you to the DJ. Fuuuuuck... perfect. Thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am mariano:

One of my cousins lives in Birmingham. I haven't been to Alabama in ages. I think the last time was late 80s, got kicked out of a bar in Huntsville. Good times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am coelacanth∅:

ZB yeah our tape club ended before it started.
Avatar 2:00am sv:

thanks, bryce!! so glad you've enjoyed the show. when i recorded it earlier it sounded a lot worse to my ears than it does now - what a difference a few hours can make
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...never been to Alabama...would lie to check it out. How was it hanging with a gaggle of yankees today? ;)

Hello sv and listeners
Avatar 2:04am sv:

hey fred and totetsu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...I'm listening through a killer set of Senheiser open back headphones which I usually only bust out for my vinyl monitoring. The show sounds insanely good. Good on you, mate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Mr. Pumpy:

But you will...you will die!!! Come on, die young!!! hahahahahahahahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am brycepunk1:

sv, intersrting... you get to record a show and then sit back and listen to it a few hours later for the first time with us. My friend, you nailed it.
Avatar 2:07am sv:

thanks so much, pump! i've been making a big effort to ride the levels. a lot of my old shows were just in the red for the most part.
Avatar 2:07am sv:

it's really nice, bryce, i can't lie!
  2:07am Dean:

Heard Mogwai at the Troubadour in Hollywood.
Avatar 2:08am mb:

So coool SV. Was going to ask you about Sun Ra-ish things you may have been exposed to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am mariano:

Felt like I was back in Brooklyn, Mr. P - I was there for almost 20 years ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am coelacanth∅:

mogwai was once of only twice that a neighbor came to my door because of sound level.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...I've gathered as much from some of our accu convos...but I'd like to talk more about it some day. How long have you been in NOLA?
Avatar 2:12am Hubig Pie:

Wall O' sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am Mr. Pumpy:

btw, my reference to you today
during the game was to make a point about speaking different dialects and, what was it, bird languages? along a bit of teasing between mates, but I know we all speak Unglich in the good ol' USA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Mr. Pumpy:

Coel...Mogwai can raise the volume bar while you're not even looking!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am Mr. Pumpy:

This machine is so grey...the best kind of grey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am Scott Williams:

@SV, this whole set, man...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am brycepunk1:

what scott said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am Mr. Pumpy:

this sounds like when I stubbed my toe and woke up on the PATH back in '93 after a GODFLESH show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am Mr. Pumpy:

what bryce said what scott said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am mariano:

Oh yeah, what was it Mr. P, a question of whether eagles and falcons can understand each other? As far as NOLA, this is where I'm from. Moved back in '17.
Avatar 2:20am sv:

thanks y'all, i really appreciate it - i had a few technicals while recording so i really thought this one was gonna be a stinker. so pleased y'all are enjoying it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Mr. Pumpy:

I've never been down there, but want to check it out...big time! Jazzfest...with all of it's corporate trappings and all, still...the acts that show up. Nuts! Other than that, I just want to come in the off time and go swamp out and maybe check out some backwoods blues/jazz joints. Sounds like a sweet place.
Avatar 2:23am Hubig Pie:

Heavy duty rock and roll
Avatar 2:24am mb:

Most every "heavy music" release from 2020 has been kicking my ass. Keilidh has been propping up some technically sound music. William B is giving a reassuring nod from the beyond, for sure. 2021 is going to be even more brutal, no doubt.
Avatar 2:26am Hubig Pie:

Brings out the duty in my soul
Avatar 2:27am sv:

mb, i agree - been a great year for metal so far
  2:27am Angelo:

I’ve never been so relaxed while listening a human lawnmower go off. Thanks. This is beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am Mr. Pumpy:

Black Curse! Yeah...the retrodeath thang is going strong. A lot of pleasing moments. I'm interested to see what they do in the future. Live Burial are also doing it for me lately! Keilidh kicked a track recently. sv...you all rule!!!
Avatar 2:28am sv:

thanks, Angelo! that's exactly the kind of contradiction i'm trying to create with this show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am brycepunk1:

and what Angelo said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am mariano:

Music, food, and booze Mr. P: what it's all about here. Look me up if/when you make it down this way, lots of nooks and crannies and off-the-beaten path kinds of places.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...the balance is sweet.
  2:30am Dean:

Really tempted to buy that Acwelan split with Bejel. Reek of Degenerative Gore was on the shortlist of names for our first child.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...you know I'm reaching out when I get down there! Can I sleep the megaron I witnessed earlier today?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am Mr. Pumpy:

@Dean...what did you end up with? Perhaps Bob...if you won that fight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am Mr. Pumpy:

Oranssi Pazuzu...sv! Yeah baby!!!!
  2:35am Dean:

Heh, not telling.
Avatar 2:35am sv:

this record is fuckin' crazy, man - such a strange blend of influences but it works so well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am mariano:

Wait, sleep the megaron? Oh, Pazuzu, my avatar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...these mofos do it proper.
Avatar 2:37am Hubig Pie:

Your set was a beautiful Sunday night Goth metal dirge
Avatar 2:40am sv:

thanks, hubig!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Mr. Pumpy:

Cool dudes as well. I never saw them live, but traded emails about whatever...probably about how awesome they are! But, they weren't having it. Actually, it was about ten years ago...looking for their old logo shirt. Great find...sv
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...it IS your avatar! Now I get it. Shit, when the curtain is pulled back...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am Mr. Pumpy:

This drummer got confused.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am mariano:

Oh, the megaron: that backdrop I was using on Zoom, now I get it. Yeah, sure, you can use that backdrop while you sleep, why the hell not?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...ha! I can use it while I sleep. That's rich. Shit, I can sleep on a spike and be happy if'n I'm in NOLA with a friend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am Mr. Pumpy:

Daymare...I love this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am Mr. Pumpy:

Yeah...when it goes low with the vibes...what's not to like?! It's like Bags and Midnight Meat Train.
Avatar 2:47am sv:

this group features a baritone guitar, an instrument that i'd never even heard of before reading press for this release
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am mariano:

Baritone guitar? I guess that's between a guitar and a bass? Interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...another instrument? Or a baritone guitar is what you never heard of?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am Scott Williams:

@sv - you've definitely heard baritone guitar, 2 most famous examples being the tremelo "bass" on the Twin Peaks theme and Berlin's "Take My Breath Away"
Avatar 2:49am sv:

i'd never heard of a baritone guitar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am fred:

I'm pretty sure I saw Andy Moor (of The Ex) use a baritone guitar several times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am Mr. Pumpy:

Oh shit...you should check out some things with a baritone guitar. There are many types, but people make them for consumption nowadays.
Avatar 2:49am sv:

ahhhh, then i've heard it used! i like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Scott Williams:

Danelectro makes 'em, with those great lipstick pickups
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am mariano:

Ah, interesting Scott! Always assumed that was a bass on Twin Peaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...and anyone else...check out anything Gentry Densley has done. He goes baritone guitar crazy. He has a band with Stephen O'Malley of SUNN o))).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am Scott Williams:

and of course Vinny Bell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am Mr. Pumpy:

Eagle Twin is a killer band. Also, Ascend. Early stuff, Iceburn...beginning to end is ever-changing yet enjoyable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am Mr. Pumpy:

The Eagle Twin full lengths are insane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am Mr. Pumpy:

@fred...The Ex are simply one of the greatest musical projects that ever existed. Great call out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am Mr. Pumpy:

sv...you have heard it more than you know, I would think.
Avatar 2:54am sv:

it would seem so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am mariano:

Danelectro - I have one of those little Honeytone amps, love that thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am Scott Williams:

@mariano those are great! Strap em to your belt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am Mr. Pumpy:

We're going through a portal...and I like it! Is that gremlins arguing?
Avatar 2:57am sv:

alright, folks, this is my last one - thanks so much for listening and thank you to Scott for holding down the fort! i'll see y'all next week. stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am mariano:

Absolutely, Scott! Thanks sv (and of course Scott), take care everyone and stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am fred:

Thanks sv and Scott
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Scott Williams:

Time to load up Nick the Bard and say goodnight, everyone! Great show SV, thanks!
