Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Mr. Pumpy:

Hello! I will be back. Funky as all that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Doug in JC:

Scones are DONE. More like flat blueberry muffins, but who cares
  9:04pm JakeGould:

These colors are pretty nice…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Handy Haversack:

Two minutes: I'm bleeding. These cats are vicious. Send scones, Doug -- stat!

Hey, efd, everyone!

Does anyone else see a new, blue playlist page?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Live with a new color format. W00t!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm efd:

hey everyone! Thanks for tuning in tonight, and yeah! New playlist page colors! Pretttttty exciting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Handy Haversack:

In this day and age? The new color scheme is Lindbergh-baby-level news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Scott Williams:

EFD, I'm supposed to be folding t-shirts here, not bopping around the studio like a sillybird, stop it! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Mr. Pumpy:

Handy...use that pain for Saturday night prep. Punishment is due!
Avatar 9:09pm On the Yazoo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm efd:

haha Scott! Try folding to the beat of the music, maybe...??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Handy Haversack:

Good thing you weren't folding T-shirts, Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Scott Williams:

EFD, I'll give it a shot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Mr. Pumpy:

@efd...killer tunes. I hung in a little longer than I thought, ducking out. Am I communicating to death? I think so...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Doug in JC:

@Handy I had a cat that would rip open a bakery bag to eat scones. Didn't care if anyone was watching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Handy Haversack:

Later, Mr. P! Will store all my pain and blood for the Keilidh hours!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Doug in JC:

@Handy Quarantine and DWI rules prohibit me from delivering scones right this second so a pic will have to do live.staticflickr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Scott Williams:

Hola Handy! Oh, the shirts are all right here in the studio with me. Between Michele & me, we'll figure out a way to get all 4000 of 'em out to y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm listener 126464:

Hi efd, cheers everybody!
  9:13pm vertual:

love the colors..reminds me of my middle school colors...go spartans... go team fmu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Doug in JC:

Why does Handy get 4000 shirts and I get like two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm listener 126464:

no huddles
Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Julie M:

Hi Evan, and all. Chiming in late on the color scheme, but am I wrong, or is this the most diverse color scheme yet? I don't think I've seen this many colors used for the various elements.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Stevel:

I only need 17 shirts. I'm not greedy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Handy Haversack:

Oh wow, Doug. I am going to put on all my 4000 shirts and get DOWN with a blueberry scone one of these days!

Also: matches the playlist colors. Doug's a prophet!
  9:16pm JakeGould:

My Metrocard lets me enter a dystopian landscape of maybe 3 - 5 people per car and most of them hobos.
  9:16pm CC:

I like wearing the same shirt every day!!!
  9:17pm vertual:

wait...these colors remind me of vintage ny state license plates
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Handy Haversack:

I'm gonna be making it rain Metrocards When All This Is Over. I missed the cutoff for telling them to stop taking money out of my paycheck for the Metrocards. So those will be given out as gifts on the subway to those what needs 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Doug in JC:

I will definitely owe you a scone Handy. This is a really nice palette. Snazzy, even
  9:19pm CC:

it's all in the mind you know!?!
  9:19pm JakeGould:

These colors are NY State colors, FWIW. Maybe not intentional but hey…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Handy Haversack:

We'll trade scones and paddling adventures, Doug! Kate and I can car-top a canoe out to NJ, too!
  9:20pm Sue:

Its the Rainbow Dome King!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Figgsrock:

This cover is excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Doug in JC:

Yeah, Handy. Too bad this year sucks so bad. We’ll figure something out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Handy Haversack:

Where there's a tide, there's a way, Doug. And the tides will keep coming.
Avatar 9:25pm BJ Skaught:

What a great record Dynamico is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm dave wuz here:

the male nurse is a house favorite here
  9:26pm kym:

oh, Swayze, you've grown!
  9:27pm Yvang:

A The Fall vibe here
  9:27pm vertual:

The Male Nurse sounds like he's channeling The Fall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Handy Haversack:

Can confirm, @Yvang. Scottish, though?
  9:27pm CC:

As tides of reason change...their waves of wonder claim our souls... the innocent earn Heaven... while the wicked writhe in coals!!!...

Avatar 9:42pm DouglasInDallas:

OMG So out of it that I just went to listen to your archived show from last night and was disappointed you didn't have a show so opted instead to listen to live steam...and...boom...Here you are! (I better come out younger after this time warp bidness levels out...)
  9:42pm CC:

so strive to fly but don't deny the truth that safely stored... allowing us to find the beauty of our own accord..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Handy Haversack:

Just had to say "why can't you be pretty like Voltron" to SOME of the pets!
  9:45pm vertual:

Long Neck and The Bedrooms...sound so good. The kind of bands i'd be listening to pressed up by the "stage" at a small club against the PA years ago,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Handy Haversack:

Exbats! So good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Chop Scott:

Sounding great EFD!!
  9:49pm CC:

Let love arise..!. to harmonize with all that we afford!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm efd:

thank you Chop Scott, and thanks for being here everyone!
  9:52pm vertual:

and now the "kick-ass" rock n roll portion of the program!
  9:53pm CC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Scott Williams:

ohhh, it's the "Smoko" boys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm listener 126464:

they got chicken vindaloo over there?
  9:59pm CC:

discarding inhibitions...freely roaming with our Lords.. we free our minds and in them find, the keys to Sacred Doors...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Stevel:

Absolutely, re. the three hours of escape for you, not to mention us! Thanks!
  10:00pm KP:

Thank you Evan. We appreciate your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Handy Haversack:

All hail the Skeletons! Praise them with great praise!
  10:03pm CC:

he was from my generation... maybe a little more decadent???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Stevel:

Wow, Europa. Takes me back to the earliest video days. Loved Thomas Dolby.
  10:10pm Yvang:

I never forgot Thomas Dolby since he blinded me with science
  10:11pm BH:

Listening to an HD2 station that plays 80s new wave (KROQ's HD2 station) gives me the superpower of hearing songs and realizing "hey, I've heard this relatively recently".. like the Dolby song.
  10:11pm vertual:

He really PLAYED the bass. Takes me back to my formative years, growing up in Fla..Suddenly feeling humid. Hot sand burning my feet at the beach.
Avatar 10:12pm RobinSays:

I had this Thomas Dolby single! A WLIR favorite. I thought he had that nerdy cool thing going on. Fun fact: Dolby was Lene Lovich's keyboard player.
Avatar 10:12pm BJ Skaught:

His playing on the Soft Boys reunion record Nextdoorland is amazing -- I'm so glad I caught those two tours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Aitch:

Eek, high school stuff.
  10:17pm Steve:

EFD, How about another Soft Boys tune like 'Black Snake Diamond Rock' ? An Underwater Moonlight bonus track.
  10:19pm SeanG:

nice! diggin the peter murphy Cuts you up
  10:20pm CC:

Arise, to realize 'it's pure...our love will never die... the dove is lame, yet he/she will reign... we die to touch the sky!!!...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Nice, the highly distinctive voice of Peter Murphy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm efd:

@Steve you'll have to settle for a song from Black Snake Diamond Role instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Figgsrock:

Great set EFD. I had no idea that he'd worked with so many people until I had to do up his obit.
Avatar 10:25pm BJ Skaught:

Another of my favorites is his playing on Morrissey's "Yes I Am Blind"
  10:26pm PJ:

In addition to the stuff you've been highlighting, EFD, Matthew's playing on Thomas Dolby's The Flat Earth is really great. Hope you can also work Absolute Beginners in.
Avatar 10:30pm RobinSays:

Is that Kate bush on backing vocals?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Stevel:

Gee, he could sing a song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm efd:

@PJ Unfortunately I don't have that Dolby record, and his catalog is weirdly incomplete on the streaming service I subscribe to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm efd:

@Robin it is not! I refer you to past guest Chris O'Leary's essay on "Absolute Beginners:" bowiesongs.wordpress.com...
Avatar 10:33pm RobinSays:

I remember being so excited to see Absolute Beginners and thinking it was...disappointing. i did like the music tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Stevel:

That's also a fascinating group of performers. Definitely related in a variety of ways.
  10:36pm Brian:

Great set, great tribute!
  10:36pm JakeGould:

@RobinSays: Same. But also “Blue Jean.” The 1980s was really not that great an era for Bowie.
  10:37pm PJ:

@RobinSays: On paper, Absolute Beginners should have been a great movie - Bowie, Ray Davies, London in the late '50's - but it was not good (though the soundtrack was).
  10:38pm kym:

@JakeGould No love for the 'Tonight' album?!
  10:39pm Nat the Parker:

Somethin ain't riiight
  10:39pm Nat the Parker:

Gonna get my self
Gonna get myself
Gonna get myself connected
  10:39pm Yvang:

The 80s were a great decade for Bowie's bank account
  10:40pm kym:

@PJ Agreed! I haven't revisited it in a million years but remember being really disappointed with it. Showed such promise.
  10:45pm CC:

eating and listening by the bedside now... night y'all...!..
  10:45pm JakeGould:

@kym: The album is one thing. Bowie’s sojourns into video and film that were truly bad and that Glass Sopider tour was a train wreck. So yes, “Tonight” is irrelevant to me.
Avatar 10:48pm RobinSays:

@PJ--true indeedy. Are The Bye Bye Blackbirds a current band?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Stevel:

I've yet to hear Bowie that I didn't enjoy, but its a pretty broad swath that always required some adjustment on my part. For me, later eras were marked more by albums such as Lodger, Scary Monsters, Let's Dance (yes) Earthling.

As his career matured, he pretty much got to do exactly what he thought he should do, often to great success. I've yet to closely listen to any of the last 3-4 albums, but what I've heard amazes me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm efd:

@Robin they are! In fact, one of them was here on this very comment board earlier tonight!
Avatar 10:50pm RobinSays:

Oh Wow! They're GREAT. A band I'd love to see once shows start up again.
Avatar 10:50pm Andrew S:

scary monsters and lets dance were pretty fine albums. Latter two during the 80s not so great but had their moments
  10:51pm JakeGould:

@AndrewS: Yes! That is more what I was saying. “Scary Monsters” and “Let’s Dance” are great… Not so much with the other stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Furs sounding appropriately good, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

They also have a blue color scheme for the new album cover: www.thepsychedelicfurs.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm John from NP:

The new Furs and the new Cornershop are good stuffs.
  11:04pm JakeGould:

FWIW, the page background color looks like Pantone’s color of the year: PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm efd:

@Jake that is EXACTLY what it is!
  11:05pm PJ:

Don't know if it's the home broadcasting or just the recording technique on this Dream Syndicate track, but it has a very four-track Portastudio feel.
  11:05pm JakeGould:

OMFG! I win a no prize! WOWOWOWO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm efd:

@PJ it's the album, take my word for it :)
Avatar 11:06pm RobinSays:

No fair Evan! I'm really tired and you keep playing amazing music. I don't want to go to sleep and miss out! Yeah, yeah I know the archives...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Handy Haversack:

Night, everyone.
Avatar 11:07pm Hoboken Jack:

Howdy EFD, Scott, Handy, HP Ken, SteveL,126464, everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm efd:

goodnight Handy, hello Jack, sorry/not sorry Robin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Scott Williams:

Wow, nice Bogus Man vibe on this new Dream Syndicate! Hello Hoboken Jack!
  11:08pm PJ:

@EFD - just program a few simple drum machine patterns, forget about compression or balancing anything, and just start laying tracks down. The actual singing vocals ("ah ah") are sounding a little too professional. Must have had a decent mic handy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm efd:

they talk some about making the new record here: americansongwriter.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Welcome to the PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue EFD playlist, Jack.

new wynn interview about it- link on fmu twitter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Scott Williams:

thanks for the link, EFD - great interview
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm listener 126464:

oh yeah that one
  11:21pm PJ:

@efd: that's interesting. It definitely sounds like just playing whatever and not worrying about structure or dramatics. I like this. A somewhat similar record, in philosophy at least, is The Third Mind (Dave Alvin, Victor Krummenacher, David Immergluck, Michael Jerome) record that came out earlier this year, which has more of a polished late '60's feel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm efd:

and you all had plenty of time to read the interview while the song was playing!
  11:23pm JakeGould:

@efd: Remote learning sucks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm efd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Mr. Pumpy:

efd: As warned...I'm back. I feel like the schmuck that comes back to a party and demands fun. Luckily...I am guaranteed fun. Thanks, efd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Mr. P - Did you bring us the nachos?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm efd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm efd:

I don't make the rules
  11:51pm JakeGould:

We live in a new masked society. Get used to it, citizen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Stevel:

Its not as good as the old masked society, I can tell you that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Stevel:

efd: Since you're home, are you grabbing more or sticking to the plan, having the time to make it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Scott Williams:

Great show EFD, thanks! Gotta head over to Mr Change's room now, see some of y'all there...
  11:54pm JakeGould:

@Stevel: Nobody is wearing hoods… Yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm efd:

@Stevel still not fully at ease with mixing in physical media here, so largely I keep to selecting from a list of ~100 songs I put together a couple days before the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm efd:

thanks for all your help, Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm mariano:
